"I do not recommend"
The museum houses a vast collection of artifacts, variety of bronze objects, such as weapons, jewelry, dating back to the Stone Age. Exhibits cover everything from Armenia's earliest civilizations to its modern-day independence. The museum also features the world's oldest known leather shoe-The Areni-1 Shoe dated back to 3500 BCE. Another highlight of the museum is the collection of ancient artifacts from the Kingdom of Urartu. The History Museum of Armenia is a must-visit for anyone interested in learning about the country's rich and complex history and it is situated at Republic Square. The museum is well maintained and every artifact is well labeled in English. The ticket price is 2500 AMD (~$6) and English speaking guides are available. We opted for a guide because I was a bit curious about history and I wanted to grasp as much knowledge as I can. The guide was nice. I have deducted one star as half of the museum was under renovation but it had given me a lot.

It pains me to leave a bad review, but I hope it gets noticed. I loved the exhibition and the items were super interesting. BUT, how can you have the air conditioning broken in almost all the rooms when it is over 35° degrees outside?! On top of that, paint work has been done in some rooms and the smell of paint was unbearable! Which made us speed up our visit. And last but not the least, how can one of the main museums in the capital of the country have such a bad bathroom?! I visited the one on the 1st floor and it was only one cabin for the women, the inside was old and the toilet paper was from Soviet Union times. Come on! There are millions of tourists coming from all over the world, PLEASE FIX THE BASICS!
1/ art collection Is awesome, mainly armenian floors, but presence of other art (russsian, france, holland, asia) gives good context for armenian art - it is must see gallery no1 in Yerevan 2/ historical museum is average, but good to see 3/ what i dont like is stalinist atmosphere of some personal, who watches you all time (i was alone tourist in the gallery versus aprox.20-30 guards), but of course its fun at the end. 4/ if you are first time in Yerevan go to Erebuni fortress and then here , you will have a good basic scheme of history and art in your head, where another trips and galleries will fit.
I do not recommend. There are only three temperary exhibitions available. The permanent exhibitions are under renovation. The ticket is still 1000 drams =€2.3. Personally I don't find it worth it. The jewellery and firearm exhibitions don't have much old history. One ancient city(not Yerevan) showed some history BC. No modern history - I bet they're in the permanent halls. It was a shame for me. The website didn't say that - the reception told me so before payment:). Plus, this is the only place in Armenia where I found people can be rude, inside the halls. Most museums, sites, or zoo are 1000AMD.
The collection of the History Museum of Armenia is far from being one that makes sense. Its collection mixes elements of history with others of art, confusing visitors who expect a narrower focus. Because the building hosts a couple of museums, the unorthodox flow of the visit exacerbates this confusion and adds an element of strangeness that is hard to get over. That said, the exhibits eventually won me over. I especially enjoyed the art collection because it came as an unexpected surprise, specifically because I had expected the focus of the museum to be mostly on archaeology.
The staff is insanely rude. They hovered over me the entire time, as there are employees placed in every room, and then were extremely hostile when I asked for the toilet towards closing time. There was a line and one of the staff members kept rushing people, at one point even trying to open the door when someone was clearly using the toilet. Extremely inconsiderate and inhospitable to paying guests. I didn’t have enough time to finish viewing everything and was planning on coming back to finish but will not be spending any more money here after being treated like that.
The History Museum of Armenia was founded by the Parliament Law No. 439, September 9, 1919. It was called Ethnographic-Anthropological Museum-Library and had Yervand Lalayan as its first director. It has a national collection of 400,000 objects and was founded in 1920. Of the main collection, 35% is made up of archaeology-related items, 8% is made up of ethnography-related items, 45% is made of numismatics-related items, and 12% is made up of documents.

Unfortunately there was a major renovation when we went there and there were only 2 halls open for viewing. Even so, the museum offered a lot of ancient artifacts to see and enjoy. We spent about an hour and could easily spend more. Tickets were very affordable and with huge discounts for kids. General admission was roughly $2.5 if I remember it t correctly. Also location is perfect, right in the heart of Yerevan. Parking might be an issue but you can take subway and arrive in 3 minutes on foot from there.
Wonderful museum and easily the best one between the territories in the Caucasus region. A wealth of historical artefacts that bring to life the enormous and eventful history of Armenia. The one thing I would add is that the museum can be even better curated in the future, but the exhibits are spectacular. Sadly, few English tours, one per day.

Very unique collection and will be extremely lovable by those who are into museum. The sad part of the visit is you don't get to click any photos inside nor you can use a stroller, the staff are very friendly and guide you easily throughout the museum which is a lot of walking. If you are going there with kids, be wary of carrying them otherwise skip it as it will tire you to the core, but definitely a place to visit and see some historical artifacts.
Putting aside the amazing artifacts, the museum itself needs a great renovation! So do the staff! They are getting old and only the receptionists speak English. Anyway, I hope there were more seats provided for tourists to rest a bit when exploring such a big space. The order of rooms is ridiculous and you sometimes don't have a clue where you are ( I am speaking as a tourist visiting there for the first time, not someone who goes there regularly).
As a first time visitor to Armenia, the museum offered me a comprehensive understanding of the rich history from the period of Paleolith up to the modern times. There’s a vast array of items, over 400000 - including artifacts, Jewelery, pottery, coins, tapestry, statues, and mosaics. It would have been nice to be immersed in the experience through videos and audio - which was lacking. However, overall a great experience and worth the visit.
Currently a bit limited in number of expositions and artifacts, but the price is very low, the location is great, and for those interested in earliest civilizations could be of great interest. Don't be too sad if you missed it, but if you have an hour to kill, do visit.

There are some real gems in this museum, worth the 2500 to get in. 6.50USD. It is horribly run however, with staff constantly ushering you to go this way and that. You are not at all free to roam around after paying to get in. The place is well made, but would be a much better experience without the hordes of bossy old ladies

Unfortunatelly, the art gallery was closed. The history museum was very informative with exhibited items dating back as far as 1.6 million years ago. Really enjoyed the collection of maps displaying Armenia at different historical periods.

Everything was good the staff was friendly but this room staff on floor 4 next to this picture attached was literally waving me bye that it seems like I came twice she wanted to say I am not welcomed here to see pretty unpleasant, I should have taken photo of her but I don’t want her to be on public platform but I hope management will notice it, thank you
One of the finest museums in Yerevan! It's better to book the tickets in advance, otherwise you might find it fully booked for your whole stay and have to skip it. The visit is more efficient with the explanation of a local (museum) guide.

Only a couple of halls are open which is disappointing, but at least it’s half-price - 1000 drams- for that reason. (Unlike the national gallery which is full price despite the same issue!) I didn’t find the adoration exhibit all that interesting but some artifacts on the history of Artashat appealed to me. Wifi in the museum, photos allowed.
Spent here about two hours with a guide. Very informative. History of Armenia from ancient days till the end of twentieth century. Interesting cultural features, explaining relations with neighboring areas and even acient Egypt, Greece, Roman Empire and Bysantine. I recommend. Entrance price 1000 drams. Excursion price 4000 drams.
It's a beautiful museum, located in the heart of the city- Republic Square. There are a lot of things inside the museum that are very important to us to understand our history. I recommend this place to everyone who wants to make a tour in Yerevan. Enterance fees is 1000Amd, and pictures are not allowed in this area at all.
This museum is wow! Its full of very old and rich history objects dating to the earliest history of man. It is very big and you need time to visit everything. Its a very nice building and you can not get lost. Everything is very well placed. Personel speaks good english and will help you if you need it. Must visit place!!!
The museum is great, but the staff will talk with each other loudly in the exhibits, and the acoustics carry their voices. they will stand in the doorways, making it difficult to move between exhibits

Located at the heart of Republic Square, with an admission fee of 2,000 AMD for an adult. Details the history of Armenia, but visited after touring the country and seeing the sights in person. Museum was greatly reduced exhibitions as a lot of material was out on loan. Logical flow to the museum
Only 1 floor was open when we went. Nonetheless they had a lot of craft and old jewelry from artashat that was interesting. For the price it’s a decent experience but nothing too fascinating, just old historical maps and artifacts. Maybe if we hired the guide it would’ve been more interesting.
I have no idea why some visitors gave a 5* rating: half of the museum is (still!!) under renovation and in the remaining rooms, they showcase a few pieces from the neanderthals days, some carpets, and a few other more or less interesting artifacts. Total waste of time as far as I am concerned
A museum and art gallery although two separate entries are required both included with the Yerevan cars which can be bought from an office at the side of the building.
