In November 2017, I was on long bus ride from Tansen to Kathmandu. Our mini van got into a mild accident and we were directed to go to the closest police station to help file a case. I was the only foreigner in the minivan. We ended up staying at the police station for HOURS and it got dark. I didn't understand what they were talking about, and there were officers walking around holding big guns. I didn't know where I was either. No one would tell me when we could leave. As a solo female traveller and I started feeling a little scared. I borrowed a fellow passenger's phone and called the US emabbay in Kathmandu. They were very nice, they had a local employee talk to my fellow passengers to get to know the situation. And they talked to me to let me know they would keep calling this phone to follow up on me . We finally got released and cramped into another local minibus to get back to KTM. The embassy employees kept in contact with me during the entire trip of several hours. They even followed up the next day to make sure I was safe and sound. I couldn't be more thankful for that.

The Consular Section at the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu can assist when a U.S. citizen in Nepal is arrested, missing, a victim of violent crime, becomes ill or dies, or when there is otherwise a need for immediate help. We can assist with information on local resources and by contacting family members in the United States apprised of the circumstances, so that they can make necessary decisions and provide financial and logistical support. Lost or stolen passports can only be replaced during normal office hours. Appointments for non-emergency services can be made online by clicking here. Once you have made an appointment with the Consular Section, please bring the appointment confirmation printout to the Embassy on the day of the appointment. Appointments cannot be made over the telephone. The Consular Section will accept payment for U.S. citizen services fees in U.S. or Nepali currency as well as internationally recognized credit cards. Credit cards may not be used to pay for visa services.

The worst U.S Embassy ever I've visited as an American citizen, ive been to many countries and also have been to several different U.S embasies but so far the one in Nepal is the worst one ive experienced, first of all I called in advance to check on availibility of car parking for visitors, the Nepali lady who answered the call had rude tone of voice said they don't have visitor parking, when I clearly saw parking spaces which was marked VISITOR inside the entrance. 2nd when I arrived at the Embassy, the Nepali guards had no manners when talking or giving instructions. All of the Nepali staff and security guards needs briefing on how to behave with people visiting the facility on official business. I'll be writing an official complain to the embassy. This needs to be addressed and corrected. To the Embassy personals reading this, here is an important message. Don't let this be an Embarrassing representation for our county. Hope to see improvement in the future. God bless America.

It’s was ridiculous. I apply my sister and brother-in-law to vist a usa . They ask them some simple questions. What you do , what your name , how many kids do you have and how old are they , how your brothers went usa . How many kid he have . They answered everything at the end she told them , sorry we can’t give you visa she told ,it’s was ridiculous. They answered everything and they sumitted everything what they want , without say anything she rejected visa ,it was ridiculous. They have to Know the filling of person why they want to go , just for tourists visa they don’t believe a people of our country. Plz try to understand the feeling of people. Only one thing i apply for them is to vist usa and welcome for my new born baby . Even we summit the letter from doctors she was pregnant and her due date. Plz don’t play with the people trust and feelings of usa embassy .Everyone have there own problems... plz try to understand.

A diplomatic mission or foreign mission[1] is a group of people from one state or an organisation present in another state to represent the sending state/organisation officially in the receiving state. In practice, a diplomatic mission usually denotes the resident mission, namely the embassy, which is the main office of a country's diplomatic representatives to another country, usually but not necessarily the receiving state's capital city. Consulates on the other hand are smaller diplomatic missions which are normally located outside the capital of the receiving state (but can be located in the capital, usually when the sending country has no embassy in the receiving state). As well as being a diplomatic mission to the country in which it is situated, it may also be a non-resident permanent mission to one or more other countries. There are thus resident and non-resident embassies.

The United States' embassy in Kathmandu is the only U.S. representation in Nepal. The U.S. embassy in Kathmandu was established in August 1959. There is always crowd of people who try to obtain student visa/ business or tourist visa. We need to fill DS 160 form, payment of interview fee of $160 and appointment confirmation letter, 2 pcs of 2*2 size photo. Then we can go at embassy for interview. We are not allowed to carry any bags inside. Ee have to keep our bags outside at restaurant or with friends. We can carry only required documents , mobile and purse. Mobile should be switched off and they will keep aside while security check. We need to collect later. After document verification, we need to give finger prints of both hands , then get ready for interview at your respective window.

The system of security and visa processing is understandable.. but the rejection is out of the system.. the reason for not being able to covience verbally and not taking viewing any of the documents as an evidence is sort of ridiculous. Country must be able to manage the illegal entry thats true... but why are they rejecting the legally valid documents.. Rejection reason for b1b2 visa 1. if you are young 2. If you have never traveled us before 3. If you are staying with ur relatives in that period 4. If you dont have a very rich financial source 5. If you shimering voice 6. If consellar doesnt like your face 7. If consellar is not in mood They will ask your name Yout work, place you ve travel and thats it.. you are rejected..

My wife and I called the US embassy in Kathmandu between 3:30 PM and 3:45 PM on July 13, 2023, to inquire about visa information. However, we were disappointed by the unprofessional and rude behavior of the lady who answered the call. It was the worst customer service experience we have ever encountered, especially considering it was at the embassy of the world's most powerful country. We believe that politeness and professionalism should be a minimum expectation in such a setting. We hope that the embassy has recorded the call and we strongly urge them to identify the person responsible and take appropriate action. Such incidents can have a negative impact on the reputation of the United States.

I am a US citizen and I married a Nepali (who is now a US citizen). The US embassy has rejected my sister-in-law's tourist visa over 3 times now. She missed our wedding, her other sister's graduation, and now will miss the birth of our first child. Each rejection was due to a concern of immigration intent. My sister-in-law is married, has children, has a job, and has her mother and brother in Nepal...her life is in Nepal. And now, the US embassy rejects my mother-in-law's tourist visa application because she will be receiving permanent resident status in a couple of months. Of course, this means my mother-in-law will also miss the birth of our first child. Shame on you!!!

  • Shrijana Rai

The lady receptionist who answered my call 4234000 was so arrogant and rude. I was attempting to ask questions about a visa appointment, but her tone of voice was extremely rude and louder. We don’t call the Nepal Embassy unless we have a problem, so they should be aware of that. They should be pleased to assist us. She hung up the call before I could finish my question. I tried to call her again with the same number but she didn’t receive my call. I was going through the review and saw a lot of negative feedback about that lady; why doesn’t the Nepal Embassy look at the feedback and replace the employee? She is not fit for this position. Rating: negative 100

I am a us citizen. My wife and kids had interview there but I was not able to join them because of military deployment. I tried to reach us embassy kathmandu Nepal to ask if my wife and kids they reached safely for interview. I was so worried they were not picking up my phone since half an hour. Their interview was so close that mine panic level went high so I caled embassy but the female in customer support was so rude that she hang up phone on me, I called again and asked her why you have attitude but she replied me why should she care. My whole day went so bad because of her. I tried to ask her name but she hang up again.

  • MrHatake1991

Called United States Embassy today (Nov 12, 2018 10:04 PM EST) from Michigan and the lady who answered the phone was so rude. The experience was worse than calling a phone or cable company and showed no effort to help. This is a government workplace and I am pretty sure the employees are paid well. Please make sure they are well trained and respectful of others before hiring and during their career. But who knows it is Nepal, and they usually give job to the relatives of higher management. Fingers crossed, hope that's not the case here.

  • Sujan Bhandari

I didn’t expect this from Embassy customer service. The number ‭014234000‬ on this lady is very rude. Before writing this review I have seen lot of customer or citizens have complaints about her. She is totally rude if she doesn’t want to work or don’t want to provide information it’s better to work somewhere else rather than wasting other time. she is there to give information and I hope she has some knowledge regarding policy of giving and sitting front desk who are seeking for help. This is ridiculous.

  • Matrika Arya Pokhrel

Need a lot of improvements. Small coffee and tea kisok is needed. ATM should be allowed for everybody. Books collection are good. Small library but quality material. Library subscription fee should be increased to maintain standard and serve facilities. It is better to allow only hard copy books. In the era of internet everybody has access to internet, mobile phones and computer. One day, in a week, there should be only interaction between library members for social harmony and friendship.

  • Sanjiv limbu

Beware of the staff here . In the visa section . Last time i went to interview there . I have a full document and paperwork. They put me in hold my application for like 2 months without any reason. When i try to contact the office about my visa status they keep on telling me that we will contact you , we will contact you but they never ever contact me . Because of this I nearly lose my visa status and travel to us . This incident has changed my life . Unprofessionalism is on another level.

  • Jeewan Rai

Clean, the restroom reminds me of DD or American restaurant ones, water dispenser makes you feel like you're in States and I love it. If you get a visa you can start seeing some differences in the systems, interiors, and start to joyfully learn. I love the beautiful greenery that I saw inside almost about a year ago. And if you're applying for a visa, please leave all of you unnecessary stuff in your car or with someone- for e.g. Cell phones, water, extra stuff that we carry.

  • Bibek Neupane

The complex is built very strong and secure but it seems that they had to compromise on location. It is located very close to major traffic junction posing great risk to their security. The security of embassy is important, but they should at least make separate arrangements for diplomatic works and customer service because no one wants to be treated like a criminal. The width of main road is also relatively narrow outside embassy compound.

  • Rajaram Phuyal

Would have given zero stars if it was possible.actually thought the phone service is the totally mindless is like behave to homeless people to us . when I call to Embassy I hope to some thing help to me but is my bad I feel was totally disappointed. the lady who received the phone I feel homeless people receive my phone not is embassy employeeI. I hope this was a rare mishap on their end, wish them best. I was calling from New York

All Nepali has one common American dream. America is the second country with whom Nepal had diplomatic relation.it’s the place to get visa for United states of America. The surrounding environment of this embassy is totally sanitary and good looking. It seems like you are in United states if you enter in this building. The security of this embassy is so strict that you are not allowed to take even a single photograph from outside.

  • Manjeet Chapagai

I have a very bad experience calling US Embassy Nepal. I had basic questions about my case. But, lady on phone seems like she had a bad day. She was rude and arrogant. I went over reviews and saw good dozens of reviews where people shared their bad experience with the receptionist. So, she was definitely not having a bad day rather that's her behavior. Hopefully US embassy will monitor this behavior of person working there.

  • Manoj Gadtoula

Embassy, the word tells everything. Anyway it’s the place to get visa for United states of America. The surrounding environment of this embassy is totally sanitary and good looking. It seems like you are in United states if you enter in this building. The security of this embassy is so strict that you are not allowed to take even a single photograph from outside( when I took this pic, one guy in this photo scolded me)

  • Bhupendra Bbasnet

Actually i don’t even want to rate them because they don’t even have any particular reasons to reject the visa ... we’re students,we do a lot of research then we give exams then we apply to college and universities in united states then we spend a lot and lot of money at final we visit this ambessy and they reject the visa just by asking only one question...this is so unfair, they should understand our hard work ...

  • Roshani Koirala

This is Nepal and the Embassyis in Nepal so what is the logic behind illogical attitude of staffs in the Embassy ? Rudeness is extreme with longest phone connection making people wait more than 10 minutes so who's gonna tolerate this type of unethical behaviour...Not for the foreigners but my sympathy goes to those Nepalese working there .First of all develop some positive attitude then start your job

  • Praphulla Ghimire

Today it was my student visa interview and I was really sad and angry at the same time VO was speaking with me. He had literally no expressions, like unhappy with his job, i greeted him with good afternoon he said no need and after 2 questions i got rejected circling 2 and 3 and when i asked shall i apply again he directly told me Who Cares in my face. Worst day ever Didn't know citizens of USA were too rude

  • Puja Manandhar

Actually 0 star. My family members tried 12 times for tourist visa. All of them got rejected without proper reason. If they are not willing to give visa to people why they are even taking applications for visa. They are clearly doing business and playing with people sentiments. They should be checking documents like before for all applicants and see their genuine concerns/problems of visa purposes. Disappointing

  • Leesha Shrestha

I just wanna burn the embassy... I am so on it.. if and only if I could... I would REALLY do it.. the reasons for rejection they give are so annoying cause they do whatever the want.. who the hell made them the visa officers? One mentally prepares himself for the interview for the fifth time and you guys change your reasons again and again.. without validity, what the hell? We are humans too.. go to hell...

  • Mehika Stha

As a receptionist, I think you should know how to deal with or have a conversation with your guest. After right away you receive the call, the way you speak (the lady receptionist) was very rude and had no professionalism at all. I can see lots of reviews related to the same thing but still no improvement or no actions at all. I hope there will be some changes in the coming future. Thank you

  • JungeyPro46

My mom and missed my first child 6 month ceremony ( Pasni) and he is going to be 1 year this dec 27 i want to call my mom dad in his 1st brithday but they they reject my mom dad for 3 times ... telling they will not go back.... and i am resident here since 6 years i havent seen them from 6 years .... SERIOUSLY USA DONT DESERVE MY MOM DAD TO BE VISIT ......IF YOU READING THIS REPLY ME >>>>

  • achyut adhikari

I am glad that it looks fancy and all beautiful stuffs, also it's security systems...but ..why, why in this earth they are rejecting visa (f1 visa) even we are fully eligible for accepting? No USA is not the land of freedoms it's land of rejection and ruining the life of thousands of Nepalese students. American government should be ashamed of it...I am sorry if I say wrong things.

  • sirja sitaula

The lady on the call is extremely rude and speak as if we have done any crime by calling them. She doesn’t have manners. Why is she so frustrated by the calls ? Is she unhappy about her job? I was shock to hear her voice so rude I just hold for a sec to know why the hell she is shouting. Plz don’t keep those who are unhappy. They are the one who will spoil others mood too

  • sapan kay cee

I can say that US Embassy Nepal is Playing game & makeing fool to student of Nepal they are taking huge amount for interview and even they couldn’t allow to speak students . I can say they are completly doing business to earn money . These type of activities rises sucide of students , Nepal government & people of nepal should take strict action against this .

  • Saurab K

Sony Giri the Rude receptionist should learn about phone etiquette. You should realize you are just a clerk at the embassy making money out of visa application fees. Embassy probably knows she is bad but does nothing about it coz she was probably trained by them to be this rude ! It must fascinate her that she can yell at and scare an applicant over the phone

  • Prakrit Nepali Uchiha

horrible customer service! I called the operator who wasn't authorized to answer any questions (why do you even exist then, just to tell callers to call another number?). then the other number is just a really long recording that says "all information is on the website" - news flash - it's not, that's why I was calling! no option to talk to a real person!

  • Surendra Malakar

such a rude staffs(front security guards and document managing lady and guy ) i've ever experienced. i was literally so very much shocked i dun know what do they think of themself they think they are masters and we are slaves i get discussed with one guy to talk with us politely. .who the hell are you to talk with us so unappropriately. .

  • Sanjay Man

Embassy has arrogant folks working there. Such a joke of customer service. The woman on the phone was very rude. She told me over the phone that Immigration visa is the same as Tourist visa. This is the knowledge base at the embassy here. Joke!! So many complaints and the lady still gets a paycheck here?? Something is not right with this situation.

  • Nate Demers

The most professionally run place in Nepal. The lots of people upset that they were rejected for visas in the reviews. My experience as a us citizen is quite the opposite. Get a born abroad birth certificate, new passport and adding pages to my passport. Not to mention all of the good work that the embassy is doing for the people if Nepal.

  • Delta gaming

such a worst customer service!!! OMG THE LADY IN THE RECEPTIONIST PICKING UP PHONE NUMBER 014007219 should be fired from the embassy work.... dont she have any responsibility and manner of speaking to the customer seeking for help??? if you are reading m********r lady tell me your name i will destroy your life

  • Sarita Pooma

the lady on the phone was very rude on Nov/17/20. I called bcoz of delay on my case. She was so rude that i should better email than call. I said i didn’t know about that and ask her she could talk in polite way she just sound very angry and said “ you didn’t gave me training to work here” and hung up. What a shame.

  • Hemanta Kadel

The lady who receive the phone 14234000 she’s completely arrogant and disrespectful person by her talking style and response behavior . I think she has not any idea or knowledge for sensitive job there . I want to request US EMBASSY NEPAL, please hire a good and responsive person for customers solutions. Thanks

  • Dipak Lama

Having a lot of Nepali employees at this embassy is making our ambassador to work dead slowly. Instead of celebrating all Nepali holidays, we as a U.S. citizen and tax payer want to speed up visa process. It is so frustrating that Nepali employees of this embassy practice as Nepali system instead of U.S..

  • Basu Pakhrin Tamang

Today I went to us ambassy at 1:25 PM to get information regarding visa processing but the security guard over there treat us as we went there in order to rob and block the way and he told that there is no parking in a rude way. If he say in a normal way then we would park outside and go inside.

  • Sanjay Nepal

I'm satisfied with their Facilities like, Building, Bathroom, Management etc. It has really cool environment. Sometimes it's normal to face problem with the work to do their but its a cool place. I take it as one of the developed and well designed Embassy in Nepal.

  • Man Lama

Do every people who gets rejected for visa gets the same letter? They do not have specific reasons for denial of Visa. Also not everybody speak English. People coming for visiting visa should be interviewed with a translator if the officer does not speak Nepali.

  • Chandra Moktan

Receptionist lady, whom we thought who could help us appeared to be one who would want a fight without a reason. How can someone be on that position with “0” communication skills. Unprofessional, she must have admit she doesn’t deserve that job.Kick her out.

  • Jyoti Ghimire

  • Niranjan Joshi

Receptionist was very rude. She said me " Don't you understand what I am saying" and hang up the call. Hope US embassy in Nepal should listen to their recording and take action. But its Nepal and she might have good political support.

  • Sid Lama

The US embassy needs to train the woman who receives their phone at the listed number. It's only 9 in the morning and she is already showing her frustration by saying just go to the website and adds no further direction. Chuttiya!

  • Bilash Shrestha

As a receptionist, I think you should know how to deal with or have a conversation with your guest. After right away you receive the call, the way you speak (the lady receptionist) was very rude and had no professionalism at all.
