an amazing place, security outside was really lovely especially me being so confused looking like a proper tourist. one of the few major tourist attractions they accepted i can speak both chinese and english (completely mad i know) but is filled with an enormous amount of rich history about china great for an all day event as my chinese cousin had to rush home to fetch her chinese ID card in addition to having separate lines with nationals and foreigners only took a sec for me and my partner (the foreign nationals) to go through security the security guard shouted at me on accident and pushed me quite hard when telling me to turn around but quickly apologised which was nice haha but having to wait for my 90 yr old chinese grandad in the chinese nationals security line took ages for him to come through as they gave him a full security check which i thought was a bit strange.it is truly a lovely museum next only had 2 hours to spend and was only able to go through half of the underground portion cos of our little hiccup. will deffo be back next time fully prepared. would suggest if want to visit to clear a full day for this and make sure everyone has their passport or chinese ID card on them as they would not accept my cousins driving license or my grandad's alternate senior ID. highly recommend to anyone visiting beijing whether they are on a excursion or live in the country.

Book via wechat 7 days in advance otherwise you won't get tickets at all, this place is very popular with the locals too. Recommend to start from the exhibition at the basement, where they exhibit in accordance with the history/dynasty line of China. Incredible bronze and other artfacts items from more than 3000years ago are just presented right in front of your eyes... I m total overwhelmed... better to search for information of items that you might interested to witness before hand otherwise you might be bombarded with artifacts while lost in information/translation. There is a dining area on the basement floor, but possibly due to exihibition-safty concern only cold/dry food (like cold noodles in sesame sauce) was offered, so maybe you can pack your own sandwiches or snacks to eat inside canteen area. Visiting time for us was 4-5hours FYI.

Dont go on Saturday it is packed. It's closed on Monday's! I was very impressed by the sheer size of this museum 2.2 million square feet. I spent approximately 20 hours over the course of a week. The bottom floor was ancient China. Truly outstanding. The Song Dynasty exhibit was remarkable.Don't go on Saturday. I was lucky to be able to see the Chinese master woodcarver exhibition while here. Woodcarving master Lu Guangzheng's artwork "The way to the sun." Lu's exhibition is a showcase of traditional woodcarving techniques unique to the city of Dongyang, in East China's Zhejiang province. Inspired by the ancient Silk Road, Lu's "One Belt and Road" exhibition can be divided into three categories. I would hate to dust these amazing woodworking pieces.

Worth the waiting to get through security. As the museum is in same area as Tiennamen Square and The Forbidden Palace, it may be worth going on week days rather than the weekend. A huge place with so much history to explore. Took me about 5 hours to slowly and carefully explore level 1 and level 2. Signage was mostly in both Chinese and English. They had run out of museum maps and audio tours when I arrived so had to make do with display signage. Not many places to sit while working through the displays. Being a little older I did find that a real issue. Unfortunately I didn't get to level 3. Well worth the effort to have a good long look

It's free to enter but you have to book a slot in advance as they control the number of visitors per time slot. This is a huge museum and after visiting, I can understand why there are so many locals, because there's really alot to see, even in the permanent exhibits halls that it's impossible to finish in a day if you are going to view them in detail. We did just the 古代中国 hall, focusing only on the more interesting key exhibits and it already took us 2 hrs.

It's a good museum and not too overwhelming, despite the awe-inspiring size of the place. It's very airy and the exhibits are limited and tightly focused. It's got a good mix of various things, although each individual exhibit isn't really tied to any of the others through any thematic link. I enjoyed the jade exhibit and the wood-carving exhibit, and some of the ceramics were most impressive. The staff speaks a decent amount of English, but be warned, you're going to need your passport to get in.

National Museum of China flanks the eastern side of Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China. The museum's mission is to educate about the arts and history of China. It is directed by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China. I've been to several museums in my lifetime and I can easily say this is one of the largest museums I've ever seen. Bring your passport and go to the customer service desk. The museum offers discounts entry for international visitors.

the security is so over the top. not enough info, pointers, booklets available for people to guide them around in the huge museum. nor on the outside, for that matter. we started from the bottom floors and immediately got bored. we had no idea what collections other floors had -- couldnt see a floor map index -- so we left.

  • Yousef Mattar

I am sure this an excellent Museum but one should note that you need to book tickets 3 days in advance, yes you can get some on the day but you should book in advance as they sell out quickly. If you go with a tour guide make sure you have done your research first as you cannot always trust what you are being told.

You can visit this area consisting of Tiananmen Square, Monument of People’s Great Heroes, and National Museum of China by using the underpass. Just taking a photo behind this building is already satisfying. It really looks alike with Great Hall of People, cant tell the difference unless the symbol on its top

Free entrance but you must get the tickets showing passport before entering to the left and right of museum entrance. Start at the 4th floor where various types of presidential gifts and artifacts are displayed. Tons of brass budda statues abd porcelain on other floors.

There are ancient Chinese cultural relics of various periods. There are also Roman Empire commodities traded through the Silk Road. There are also some neighboring countries Unlike the British Museum, there are no cultural relics looted or stolen from other countries.

  • SGMP

Nice museum. Excellent exhibition of ancient chinese culture. Entry is free, only passport verification for the tourists done. However it is always crowded. So must have some time in hand and the waiting is worth really.

Monumentální muzeum, která Vás provede celou historií čínské civilizace. Uvidíte artefakty z období análů a válčících států, terakotové vojáky, zajímavosti z čínských objevných plaveb.
