A good university, but many issues. LONG (honest) REVIEW JUST FOR YOU. (Updated October 2018) It's the top one university for masters in International Trade in China. Among the top 10 universities chosen by Chinese undergraduate students. It is a nightmare when it comes to the administration, with very little support given to you for filling all the paperwork and procedures, for getting an accommodation, passing health exam or even paying tuition, prepare yourself in advance anywhere possible by asking questions (you won’t get information automatically) , and double check everything (like for paying the tuition, or getting your residence permit is hell). However if you are a scholarship student, things should be much easier for you. Some of the classes (at master level) are closer to undergraduate level than master. Try as many classes as you can for each start of semester before making your final choice for the semester’s classes. Most professors are Chinese, and only a handful know how to make their classes interesting and informative (and for some their English is not comprehensible). The job opportunities are great after finishing studies, but you need to speak Chinese if you want to fully use the opportunity given by your degree in the UIBE to get a job. Can work for Mercedes, bytedance, Jingdong, and many other companies, depending on your specialization. This is the real good reason to come in China to study: JOB OPPORTUNITIES. The English classes are not mixed with Chinese students which is a shame. One consequence is that foreigners tend to stay with each other and almost have no interactions with Chinese. It’s important to break this barrier when you arrive here by learning Chinese in a private school (like lanmate near the uni) or to do activities like sport to connect with Chinese. Accommodation: the UIBE doesn’t have enough dorms to accommodate everyone INCLUDING scholarships student so make sure to reserve your room way in advance. Different rooms available: -Appartements like Huide appartement, cheap (1500-2000 yuan per month) but outdated. -There are the single rooms available in the New building, which are modern but terribly small, there is a common kitchen that is often crowded, plus only 2 elevators for the whole building. -The best rooms are located in the huge "new" new building in the north west corner, it offers brand new large hotel rooms, most of them are shared rooms for 2 persons, really recommend. The rent is 2400 yuan for a shared room but its definitely worth it (no kitchen however) (only 600 for scholarship students). -To live outside campus, a few airbnbs are available, or you can rent on one year contract. This issue is though: if you are passing by airbnb or through a friend, you can just pay the time you stay (usually 4 months for a semester) but you will have difficulties obtaining the infamous residence paper you need to get your visa and to complete university registration (cause you need to go with the owner to the police station), but if you choose a one year contract, that paper is easier to get, but you will have to pay fees if you don't stay until the end of the contract of 12 months. The campus in itself has a human dimension but after visiting many campuses, it is one of the worst in Beijing. Many old buildings, like the canteens, the classrooms in the main building called Boxue building are aged, the campus is dirty, and has a gloomy atmosphere. A big part of the uni is now being renovated, so hopefully it will be better in a few years. AVOID AT ALL COST the school's hospital. It is an absolute nightmare. The doctors are incompetent. I had an injury that was infected, but they said it was fine... Be very careful with healthcare in China, get a private insurance (not the one from the school that is mandatory) and go to the nearby Japan China friendship Hospital or China Union Medical Hospital (more far away but it is even better). Staying for 2 years
