This is by far THE slowest bike shop you can find in Houston. I arrived at 10 AM and didn’t leave until 5 PM. Mind you though my bike is 30+ years old. And that’s why I say 3rd Ward bike shop is a jewel. Full of culture, laughter, arguing and oh yeh bikes. You don’t go there just to get your bike fixed. You go there to be a part of a community. You go there to be first in line and last to leave. To have your 30+ year old bike fixed because they are the only ones in town who can do it. And they’re the only ones in town stubborn enough to hold onto a brake line no longer produced, that no one else in their right mind would keep. You come here to watch these men give every ounce of themselves to keep this place afloat. You come here to support a community. You come here when you are down and out and need $100 worth of work and you only have $20 because they’ll let you work it off. You come here when a bicycle is more than just your primary form or transportation. You come here because its where you go when you need freedom, a laugh, 50+ years of bike repair knowledge spewed at you, or hell...eventually get a bike fixed.

This place is a hidden jewel. Angelo is a professor of bicycleology and Margo is a wizard of the word. Good place to hang out and listen to conversation or get schooled on the history of bikes. I see people complaining about it takes too long or prices are too high. False! Stop being lazy and come early or come with patience or dont come at all. Prices are super affordable. See for yourself. You could go to some fancy shancy bike repair shop and pay double or triple for what? You won’t get it any sooner. I see some people on here say that Angelo is rude and that is not the case. He is a straight shooter and tells you how it is with no filter no bells and whistle‘s. He cares a lot about his work and you can tell by his dedication so stop complaining! I’m glad I found this place. I have taken my bike here several times in my daughters bikes. These guys are super dedicated.

Angelo's a cool guy, smart and efficient about the way he works. Replaced my spoke, trued my wheel as well. Definitely knows what he's talking about and helped me understand what was going on with my wheel. Prices are beyond reasonable - $15 for labor (he also trued the wheel to get it straight in about 20 minutes) and $2 for the spoke. And that was for him to do it, you can come in and use the tools for a lesser fee. Anyone in the reviews saying that this place is too expensive obviously doesn't know what they're missing out on. Will return for future repairs, or maybe to help out once in a while or learn.

I needed a modification on my bike, and as soon as i told them what i was hoping to accomplish, they knew exactly what to do and had the parts to do it. Being a novice it was a relief to get everything i needed, done in one place, in a timely and professional manner. There's also volunteer opportunities here where you can help a kid build their own bike and you can rent space and tools to build or modify your own. This is a great bike shop in 3rd ward.

The old guy is very rude. My bike was assembled by someone else. He said y'all people don't know how to assemble a bike trail shouldn't own one. He took it off and redid it. I didn't cook there for that. I only went there to ask him to raise my seat some. Told him I didn't assemble it done body else did. He got extremely rude from there and said he didn't care and I did it wrong. He needs to go. No one wants to give them business because of him

  • Patrick Martinez

Highly recommended!. They went above and beyond to help me fix my bike. Even though I didn't work on the bike I learned a lot from watching them. The thing I like this most about this shop is they had different customers coming up with all different types of bikes. They didn't care about the shape the bikes were in. They treated everyone's bike as if they were top dollar bikes. Very helpful and friendly. I would definitely be back

  • Chris Yates

Whoever answered the phone was super rude. He hung up on me after saying something like "I honestly can't understand you". I called him back and I told him that I needed something specific and instead of just accommodating, he questioned me like I didn't know what I was talking about. He then told me to just come down to the shop and hung up on me again. Maybe they were just insanely busy, but it was still frustrating nonetheless.

Repaired my 18 speed and gave me some pointers on how to improve reliability of my affordable bike that i simply wanted to get more use from. I appreciate their honesty when i asked if i should replace my back tire. They said i had another 200 miles left on that tire. Cool. Have already recommended this shop to family members. Worth the drive from north houston to this location.

I went here the other day and waited in line for 10 minutes. Was not acknowledged once. I just needed an inner tube. I watched them work on other bikes but not acknowledge my presence. I went down the road to another location with better customer service. I gave them 2 stars because they offer service stations to rent which I found unique. Overall, I'd go elsewhere.

  • Kimberlee Proctor

He quotes different prices to different peoplesome people he lets work off to for the part they need and some people he doesn't give them that optionalso I've never seen or heard of him giving away any bikes he's supposed to be a non-profit and help people but he charges more than Eco bike stadium does I would not recommend him to anyone or for anyone

  • Joi S

Angelo was amazing to work with. He changed out my tires and sold me a bike rack for my garage. Who knew that you weren’t supposed to store your bike on the tires? Awesome service!!! I highly recommend this shop. Many thanks to Angelo and Anthony for your amazing service. I’m looking forward to the Third Ward Hood Ride on Wednesdays!!!

  • britney murphy

Older gentlemen working there was extremely rude and impatient. When I brought this to his attention, he reminded me this business was a charity organization. I gently reminded him that I was a paying customer with several other options and that I would not be returning. I don't advise anyone to shop with these people.

  • Elena P

Great prices! Totally recommend. The owner is kind of grouchy funny. His prices and knowledge of bikes make up for his attitude after 4pm. He is more pleasant before dinner time. I totally recommend this shop. Great value for your bucks in the inner city. Not a fancy shop , but who cares of work done right.

  • Britt D.K. Gratreak

A quality mechanic and adventurer. Really fun to talk to about the world of biking. I walked away with a ton of cool bikes to look up and even a book to read. This is one satisfied visiting Portlander! My only regret is not getting a selfie with Angelo with his Santa hat... I will go back if I can! …

  • Lisa Jones

They were fast and friendly, and I have to say the price was good compared to another place I went to a year ago, can't reveal their name but they were expensive, so from this day on 3rd Ward Bike Shop is the only place for me and I shall spread the word thanks and may God truly bless your business.

These Guys Are Beyond Outstanding!!! They Fixed My Special Bike (The Elliptigo) In A Matter Of Seconds. Not Only Was The Work/Timing Speedy & Efficient But The Warm Welcoming Atmosphere Mixed With Their Great Personalities Made The Visit That Much More Worth While!!! Peace & Love!!! #BLICKET

Angie is in that menopausal stage i suppose, she is really irritable, the spot own too many damn mosquitoes inside my arm was itchy as heck once i left this spot. But we had a great conversation for free, if you are a sensitive person don't go there, but she will get you right

  • M J

Cool bike shop. Although the guy doing a small adjustment on my bikes took over 3 hours to do so as he was too busy talking to everyone that walked in the shop, then sold me the wrong overpriced airpump for my bike after insisting it was the correct pump several times.

  • Hidetaka Hibino

I stopped to change front tire's tube. $13 dollars to buy and replace the tube, and I think it's a reasonable price. The only and biggest downside is they take ONLY cash. I didn't have a cash, so I have to walk to the closest food store and withdraw some cash.

  • Jaijo Jaison Vennatt

The owner/front representative was very rude during my visit. He took one look at my bike and fished out a business card and didn’t let me say anything out loud. He refused to hear me say one sentence about why I was here. Absolutely terrible.

  • J-Roc Corleone

I called this morning to ask do you y'all do fat tire conversion on 26" mountain bike. He answered the phone yeah I asked my question response yells BRING IT IN hung up the phone in my face. He didn't know if I had another question or not.

  • Candace Owens

My son and I LOVE this place! We googled it around 5:36pm got there by 5:45. They welcomed us with professionalism, amazing bike knowledge, great conversation, and a buttload of history about the neighborhood. We literally had so much fun

  • KevJ

One of my favorite shops in town. Salute to Mr. Angelo or Mr. A for many that know him. He is an expert with 50 years of experience. I have brought several bikes here for maintenance & repair and he assissts when & if you need help!!!

  • Rusty Shackleford

This shop is better for riders experienced in repairing their own bikes. Just pay a small hourly fee and use the owner's tools and get his advice. Do the repair yourself. If your not a hands on person I would avoid this shop.

  • Kimberly Harris

Poor customer service. The old gentleman who was there was extremely rude immediately upon walking up. My friend and I didn't bother taking the bike from the car and immediately chose to do business elsewhere.

  • Andrew Slaton Freeman

This place is an absolute treasure. The owner reminded me of Gandalf-- weary with the weight of a thousand years of knowledge. Great selection of used bikes, and super helpful if you shoot straight with them.

  • Michael Shaw

Angelo owner was very knowledgeable & told me the history of my 1973 Schwinn rear hub brakes plus showed me how to straighten a wobble rim by adjusting the spokes. Totally awesome job...

  • Robert Anderson

Fabulous, helpful and informative, Angelo truly helps that Community, let's get him some funding to expand his operations, where more people can get served by this wonderful person.

  • ReneOrellana11

I took my warp wheel of my mountain bike. Everywhere I took it wanted to order a new wheel. I need it fixed asap. It took Leo 10 minutes to align it the old fashioned way. Loved it.

  • Vera Hart

Great service and very reasonable prices. It is a volunteer shop headed by one guy. He is open for business and they have regular bike rides through the neighborhood and downtown.

  • King KAE YaH

I was sent here from another bike shop because I Broke my rear axis and they didn't have the parts I needed but 3rd ward bike shop did , very professional and great atmosphere.

  • Kz jenkins jr

Good location, prices are horrible. They wanted 16.00 dollars for one tire tube. I stop there often on my bike route. Friendly staff except the manager he's kinda grumpy

  • Brian Keith

The guy that answered the phone was very rude! I wouldn't recommend nobody to go by this bike shop ! If you are rude or disrespectful they don't need our business

  • Broderick Butler

Theyre good guys @ 3rd Ward Bike shop. While a lovable ole cuss, Angelo taught me so much about cycling as I waited. I will be back and I highly recommend them.

  • KevJ

Love this place!!! Me, personally, Dr. V & Mr. A have been helping the community for decades. Best bike shop in town when you are not trying to break the bank.

  • Cameron Miller

Angelo is Rude, impatient, provided no help, and admitted to assuming I was not knowledgeable on what I was wanting to purchase. Definitely not going back.

  • anu21

Very good service and really cheap. He went over and beyond for what he was actually paid for. A very kind person as well! Would definitely recommend.

  • Raeco Evans

Lisa and team...thank you so much for taking time and care with me and my bike. The work you all provide is top notch. Quality work with fair prices.

  • Demita Hemphill

  • David Smith

Best place in town to take a bike or bike parts you're not using and turning them into either fitness or mobility (or both) for someone in need.

  • Arvind Kumar

I would go here if I have basic problems with a basic bike with no hydraulics. The shop looks like a bicycle junk yard but staff is v friendly.

  • Basking in Texas
