After many years, I finally came back to this amazing Aquarium and the beautiful Botanical Gardens on 19 Oct 2023. I purchased my ticket online, which was only $10 (the price for residents of New Mexico), for the time of 0900. I arrived just after opening (my ticket time), and left about 2.5 hours later. It was an easy and peaceful way to spend a few hours, as it wasn't terribly busy yet and the cool air made the Gardens exploration more comfortable. The only disappointments I had were: the individual whom scanned my ticket at the Garden entrance just after 1000, was not at all friendly and acted like my question was a major inconvenience; the Butterflies and Bees exhibit was closed; and a few different groups of people were having photos taken all over the Gardens, which took over some areas for various lengths of time until they were finally done. I love that there were Autumn and Halloween decorations throughout! It was a very festive and fun surprise. Experiencing the Bugarium for the first time was awesome! The Aquarium was filled with so many different and fascinating creatures, kept very clean (in the water and in the human areas, as well), and just how I remembered it. The guy whom scanned my ticket at the Aquarium entrance was so pleasant, which was a great way to start my visit. The trains in the Gardens are my favorite part. I had such a lovely Thursday morning at the ABQ Aquarium and Botanical Gardens, and cannot wait to go back.

The bio park is a nice way to spend an afternoon. Wheather you are with family or someone special. The aquarium is small but has a good variety of fish tanks and pools. There's a nice touch pool that's open at various times throughout the week , so call ahead to see when it's open. The last tanks has loads of sea animals including sharks, sea turtles and manta rays, with a small sitting area. The stand out exhibit, for me ,is the otters. There's three viewing areas and the otters love to swim. The park also includes a bugarium ( bug exhibit). Lots of different bugs to check out . The leaf cutting ant exhibit goes between two rooms and it's interesting to see them work . Then there's the botanical gardens. It's a nice scenic walk with a pond, green house , Asian garden and a Spanish ceremonial garden. Not to be missed with your significant other. There's a fantasy garden for the kids that has giant ants, giant carrots and a giant pumpkin that would make Cinderellas chariot look small. The bio park has good value for it's price and is a fun place to take the family or even a date.

I absolutely love and recommend this aquarium for anyone looking for an affordable, fun time with your children! The aquarium is relatively small, it took us about 30-45 minutes to look at all the marine life, although we didn't stop and read all the plaques. It is very well put together with lots of bang for the buck. We bought the combination passes which included aquarium, botanical gardens, and zoo for 2 adults and 3 kids for less than 100 bucks. So for less than 100 bucks we had about 7 hours of family fun and it would have been longer if not for the cold weather at the zoo and botanical gardens. Pros: Very well put together, lots of various marine life, indoors Cons: Relatively small. 30-45 minutes gets you through the whole thing, probably an hour to an hour and a half if you are really reading everything.

Wonderful experience!! Really east directions to the park. It's not expensive at all... if you are a resident you got a discount, military discount, or zoo member discount. Even though I'm any of the previous we just paid 29.00 for two adults. *Kids under 2y/o do not pay.* The aquarium was really great, hearing all the kids enjoying the show and watching the sharks, sting greys, seahorses among other (very large variety). Right after you're done with the aquarium you will head to the gardens. Gorgeous. My wife was in love with it. There is also farm/vineyard (old school looking, really aswome). A few farm animals. Then the "BUGarium", it's a dedicated place for different bugs species. Really interesting. Overall, I rate it a 5/5 experience. Really nice to go with the family and have a family day, oh and I almost forgot, there is a picnic area! *Parking is free*

Beautiful and some strange and BEAUTIFUL FISH. I added in the Botanical Garden also. They were both Soo relaxing, to do on this perfect day. I like how the aquarium let me into the restaurant when I was done. You have got to try the lavender lemonade with the edible choice of lime or lemon straw. The fries were really thin and delicious and the burger was really good. The Botanical garden is beautiful. There were people and families laid out on the grass. There were turtles in the water and more fish outside in the water. I love how there was plenty of benches to sit down when I was tired. The tiny little train village was cute and I love the cactus house. I would definitely recommend anyone and everyone to go here. It's great for families or if you want to just go by yourself, as I did.

  • Alex B-Garcia

Definitely worth seeing. Buy tickets ahead of time though. The touch pool and shops were all closed when I went so that was disappointing. Just gonna have to come again I guess There was a cart selling a few plushies so I got me a rainbow alligator that I absolutely love. The gardens were by far the best part. Every piece was beautiful down to the leaves of every plant in the large green house. I recommend taking water and reapplying sunscreen every few hours. We did it twice during the whole trip and I still got a nice tan around my watch. The ceremonial gardens were the absolute best. Beautiful and refreshing. We even spotted a live porcupine just chilling in the trellis! Next time I'm definitely bringing a sheet to lay on the large lawn of grass they have. 10/10 already wanna go again!

We went on the saturday before Thanksgiving. They were not very busy, but there were a few groups of families with children. The aquarium is straightforward and pretty much nudges you along until the end. It felt like we were only there for an hour or a little more, which is a bummer considering ticket costs. Some tanks looked dirty, and a LOT of fish weren't labeled. However, I did actively see employees cleaning enclosures. This isn't my local aquarium. Since I was traveling and went out of my way to see this, I wouldn't recommend it. I enjoyed plenty of other aquariums more. I did really enjoy the otters, though, and spent a good portion of time just watching them be silly.

Love this place to take my kids see this! We enjoyed family time there. Some changes there from last time I went there. Wish they do have more sea creatures shown in tanks. There are some tank windows out of order and not there anymore. I'm looking forward to seeing more different. I enjoyed the shops and restaurant in there. Drinks are great refreshing. Haven't tried the food. We will definitely try the food next time we go. It's a small and simple aquarium to go see. But you still can get fun enjoyed to watch and relax. Kids will love it. Plus, they have cool and beautiful botanic gardens that can enjoy through to see next to it.

The ABQ BioPark Aquarium is located in downtown Albuquerque within the BioPark compound and is open daily from 9am-5pm except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. The aquarium is quite small, especially compared to the zoo. Unfortunately approximately half of the exhibits were closed or empty when we visited in September 2023, including the eels. The largest attractions at the end of the aquarium (the Atlantic Coral Reef and the Pacific Coral Reef) were open and were by far the best part of the aquarium. Overall it could be a great little place, especially for children, but it needs to invest in reopening its collections.

My family and I had a really wonderful time at the Aquarium, they had some truly amazing exhibits set up. Although no kids were among our group, the kids in our hearts lit up at the sight of some incredible animals. A favorite among our group were the river otters, their display underneath the water was an amazing sight. One of the guides was specially insightful and helpful when we had questions about them, it was not hard to tell that she really enjoyed talking to the visitors. Another exhibit that was particularly awe inspiring were the jellyfish, their cylindrical tank was perfect to just bask in their glow. The aquarium isn’t too big or too small, it felt just right to start our morning off at the ABQ BioPark.

  • Jori Valley

This was my first time going to the park and I went with my four-month-old little girl. It was so much fun watching her experience everything for the first time, everything felt new and exciting. We did both the aquarium and the botanical garden, she fought her nap the whole time while taking it all in. I'd definitely recommend bringing your little ones if you're looking for something fun to do. Just maybe not on a midsummer's day, it got too humid and warm to finish walking the gardens but that's nothing against the park, it just means there's more to explore next time I go.

Had a great time at the Aquarium! The building has a layout that guides you through all the exhibits without people crowding on each other. There are stands with education on the animals, their environment, and how we can protect them. The otters in particular have interactive stands where you can learn about them, and there's both an above water and underwater viewing area (sadly, the otters were not out when we visited). There is a display about oil spills, and plastic in the waterways. Many good places to sit and view the animals go about their day in their tanks, which is very relaxing. Wonderful moon jelly exhibit, and the hall of fish really let's you see how big some of them are!

  • Kay W

Awesome little aquarium to visit! They have a good variety of fish and other animals, it is on the smaller side but it is attached to the Botanical gardens which is included in the same ticket so it is definitely worth it! They have a great cafe as well where you can find snacks and sandwiches. They also have interesting lemonades such as lavender and a coconut one as well as great cotton candy! I would definitely recommend touring the garden first then coming to the aquarium especially if you are here in summer so you can stop in the cool air inside last and have a cold lemonade in the Shark Reef Cafe with its awesome gigantic fish tank with sharks in it before you go!

  • Sherry Kosmatka

The fish tanks were fabulous, the ladies that explained about the fish were knowledgeable but the fact you can't bring in your own drink, especially when they sell 24oz Gatorade for $8.50 is more then ridiculous. Talk about price gouging. Also the gift shop refused to make change unless you bought something was pathetically rude. Even the ticket booth tried to tell me she barely had change for $1. The fish were great, but the park attitude towards visitors could use some improvement.

I love the place as far as people go it is a hit or miss. The employees are great but humans in general crowd the shark viewing area and don't know about personal space. Parents not watching their kids or just walk in the middle of the path. Once again its humans that are the worst, the flowers, exhibits, butterfly garden and so on are always fun and amazing. The employees are helpful and knowledgeable about their respective duties, will come back year and year. Bring your hat, water and strollers to have a more enjoyable experience. Lots of shade and places to sit, restrooms and snacks are available.

  • Sal Rubalcava

Bought a combo pass for the family to see the zoo and the aquarium. After a short drive from the zoo, we pull up to the parking lot designated for the aquarium. Displays are nice but the facility isn't huge by any means. The kids loved seeing all the huge fish and even sharks in the larger tank. We were looking forward to petting the stingrays in the smaller area but sadly, they had it closed off for a while now. One of the larger displays with the boat were closed down but didn't have any signs mentioning when/if it would be back. Overall, a neat place to visit while visiting Albuquerque.

I love the BioPark and Aquarium SO MUCH!!! The BioPark is huge, and has so many awesome animals, and a glorious gift shop. The Aquarium is much smaller by comparison but it has some amazing attractions and a wonderful, happy atmosphere. The Aquarium has a different gift shop of it's own, and the cafe has this amazing aquarium view! The staff are helpful and so nice! I went here for my 30th birthday and it was the BEST birthday I've ever had. I loved it so much I got a year pass to come back whenever I want! 11/10 will go again. Keep up the awesome work!!!

  • Glenda Sanchez

Having a BioPark Membership let's us take my grandson to see the aquatic creatures. He is now 7 months old and loved the big fish viewing area! The Otters were my favorite! It was a bummer the touch pool wasn't open. Maybe next time. I am so glad they do timed tickets now. And all the covered parking areas are a plus! Not very many options for toddlers and infants at the Gift Shop, but we found a bucket hat that is awesome!

It's a small aquarium, but they have beautiful exhibits (river otters, numerous tropical fish, diamond back terrapins, jellyfish, seahorses, dragon fish, clown fish, sharks, a sea turtle, and lots of rays). Your ticket gets you into the Botanical Gardens as well. The gardens were beautiful and the Bugarium was a highlight. They also have an outdoor butterfly exhibit open from Memorial Day to mid October.

Awesome! Smaller than expected, in about 30 minutes you could probably see everything. :) It’s really cool seeing the sharks up close, and I loved the cute otters. We went late after rushing from the zoo, and so we only had 30 minutes before closing, so we missed out on the nature bit, (due to the staff saying they close 30 minutes before close time, “so people don’t stay past the time”). However, they were nice enough to let us see the aquarium, as we arrived right at the 30 minute mark. Appreciated the friendly staff!

  • Zachary “Xach” Allan

This is one of the smallest aquariums I have ever seen in my life. I take that back, it is the smallest. That being said, the ticket prices are very reasonable considering. I was not able to make it over to the botanical gardens but I'm told they are lovely. I got to speak quite a bit with one of the marine biologists on staff and you can tell they are very passionate about taking care of the animals, which is always good. But, it is an aquarium in the middle of a desert, so how much can you really expect?

  • Bob Schuster

Found this place along Route 66, and I must say, this is a crown jewel of Albuquerque!!! The aquarium has everything you would expect, including sharks in a lower level eye view tank! And then we moved over to the Gardens (did I tell you one ticket gets you in to BOTH museums??)... Strolling along, there is so much to see (and smell), you might actually want to go back through a 2nd time! Also a nice area at the gardens for the kids to explore! Must stop place IMO.. (tell them Whats Up Bob sent you!)

  • Levander Allen

Great place to stop, very clean and employees are Friendly, only bad side is this place is expensive, I would recommend getting water or any other snacks somewhere else like the Walgreens up the road. Water $6.00. Best time to go would be in the morning before 12pm. Gets crowded around the evening time. Also you get to check out the garden. Place is nice for a walk.

The aquarium is small, it took only 30 minutes (with a teenager pushing me along). The botanical garden is part of the same ticket, and even though it is the off season for the plants, the grounds were nice. There is a very nice electric model train display, 400 feet long. There was a rose garden, Japanese garden, and a cool kids play area.

Loved the shark area and the tunnel aquarium. The jelly fish aquarium is awesome! The otter area wasn't bad. Bottom floor is way better!!! We went on a good day and was able to touch a bottom feeder shatk and a baby sting ray. The sting ray pool is neat as well! The garden is always beautiful and part of the aquarium!! :) entry fee was reasonable. Over all definitely worth going too for a family outing. All was great!! Many things in the garden that was enjoyable! :)

Very cool little aquarium, but be prepared for it to be quite small! However, I really enjoyed the experience and it was awesome to see river otters, sharks, and more. Well worth the inexpensive entry ticket (but also check out the BioPark botanical gardens while you're here: they're even more worth the price of admission).

The length of the time to go through the entire park was longer than what I had expected, and some of the park was unavailable for remodeling and work. However, even what was available was worth the time to go through it. All of it was very beautiful and an excellent view of many different plants, including seeing some animals in various parts that were not exactly part of the exhibit!

Great aquarium. Not many towns have aquariums so when you get a chance to visit one it’s always awesome. I can see they have lots of closed exhibits. Most likely due to lack of staff to maintain a huge fleet of aquatic animals. They’re huge aquarium viewing window is one of the biggest I’ve seen! Pretty cool.

We've been visiting this aquarium a few times over the last 25 years. The variety and presentation is great! Viewing the marine life here made a big impression on both of my kids, now grown but still wanting to go back. The staff (volunteers?) were knowledgeable and friendly. I was thrilled to touch a shark and a ray! And the entrance fee also gets you into the beautiful gardens, which are a short walk away.

  • RobDigital

I love this place and haven't been there in a while, but it seems to be getting run down. With vynol base boards falling off paint chipping everywhere. And what happened to the lobsters did the mayor eat them or something. They were one of the best exhibits there. Plus, some of the fish looked to be getting sick in the shark tank. I should have taken pictures but didn't want that kind of memory forever

  • Danny Aydelott

Very nice visit . The place was clean and neat. The fish had good living conditions, and seemed content there. Some fish that we had never seen before! The gardens were amazing! They went on and on and on..Everything was well taken care of, as the staff there sure keeps busy. Thank you

Great place to bring the kiddos! Parking is tight and if you find one under the sun guard grab it! Just wish it was bigger! The aquarium is pretty small, you will walk around the place under 10 minutes, Unless you stop and take pictures. A lot of sea creatures that I would not see unless I went to the aquarium. Great experience and I enjoyed it with my family.

Right next door to the Botanical Gardens is the ABQ BioPark Aquarium. I didn't pay entrance to the Aquarium since I paid at the Botanical Garden which was nice. The great part about the aquarium was learning about the fish species from the Gulf of Mexico and South Pacific ocean. There were a range of exhibits including a 38-foot-wide/ 9-foot-high shark tank.

  • Kenny Maldonado

I HOPE THEY UPDATE THEIR CLOSING HOURS ... It is 4:25pm on October 10 and the guy at the entry gate literally closed the gate in our face. When asked about the time they closed shows at 5pm.. the guy said that everyone onerds to be out of the park by 5pm. If this is the case ....then please update your closing time to show 430!! Look at photo.

I only give 4 stars because there were many habitats that were unavailable. The aquarium is small but perfect for small children who get bored easy. There is a botanical garden and zoo that are right by it also (all available for bundled purchase if before 12:00). I will definitely return and can’t wait to see the aquarium finished!

  • Teri Eaton

I did not get to spend enough time here because I had to catch a flight, but the little amount of time I had, I loved it. I ate at the little cafe before I went into the aquarium. It was great and the aquarium was beautiful. I was blown away at how affordable this whole area is to get to the aquarium bulgarium and botanical gardens.

  • sue Ribeiro

Great aquarium and worth visiting! It is a bit smaller than some aquariums but laid out well, clean and enjoyable. The otters were not cooperative today but the rest of the fish were beautiful. There is a gift shop and food place at the end, both fairly high priced. From the food cafe you can watch one of the tanks of fish.

The aquarium is decent for being located in the desert, but it is pretty small and kind of cramped. It does make for a nice quick trip to escape the weather for a bit, but the real reason to go is for the beautiful botanical gardens attached. The botanical garden space is huge and is great for an outdoor exploration day!

My kids love this place. We go every summer. The Bug area is really cool. They enjoy watching the sharks. There's an area in the garden with trains and benches. The kids favorite part was the ant area where the model vegetables are huge. My youngest sat on the metal ant, it's like Honey I Shurnk the Kids.

We visited the aquarium and botanical garden today. The boys (2 years and 1 year old) loved it! Great assortment of plants and fish. I just wish there was more opportunity to purchase drinks (water, lemonade juice etc). Also, did you notice the good size porcupine sleeping above the ceremonial garden?

It was the perfect "rest stop" as we were driving through NM! Small enough to see it all and enough interesting critters to really enjoy. My kid is obsessed with sharks and we decided it was easy to eat there and didn't realize you were beside the sharks so BONUS! Affordable also and free parking.

We love the ABQ Botanical Gardens and Aquarium. Your ticket purchase gets you into both locations. The aquarium is mostly inside which is nice if it's hot outside at the gardens. They have otters, sting rays, so many fish, jelly fish, and so much more. It's one of our favorite places to visit.

I love taking my baby here. It’s a great experience but I wish their Google Page would be honest about their hours so I don’t waste my time. I got here at 4:31 and the aquarium closed at 4:30. Thought I’d take her to the butterfly garden but that’s closed too. Real bummer.

  • Robert Harding

Great place except there was too much construction. Not enough shade for the animals to be out. There needs to be misters so that it's somewhat tolerable to walk around and $7 for gatorade that's a little steep but besides that great family fun.

Look, if you have children, you want to bring them to experience this River of Lights. From Cinderella's coach to the ducks coming out of the water to say hello to the spectacular dinosaurs. No living zoo animals, but the light sculptures will keep you from missing them.

  • Trujillo, Marcus

Very beautiful during the river of lights event. Had plenty of decorations for the amount of time we were allotted. Very well kept and workers are polite. Plenty of indoor areas and bathrooms. Plenty of benches for when you get tired or need to take a seat.

Nice aquarium, small but cozy. Can’t compare with larger aquariums, but great displays of a variety of fish, otters and information.

It was my first time experiencing this aquarium and it was alright, but I’ve been to better in the states. The theater was closed so please be aware of that from an experience perspective. It’s an okay option for kids but it’s a bit small in my opinion.

  • Brittany Maes

Nice little aquarium. I enjoy walking through the botanical gardens it's usually very tranquil. Especially after taking the kids to see all the fish. Wish the butterfly exhibit would have been open. Idk how we always miss that. Or when it's ever open?

  • Tracey Smith

This is a small, well put together aquarium. They have all types of sea life on display. It was a very enjoyable visit.

We went here as part of our combo pass with the zoo and botanical gardens. It was great, but I'm not sure if I'd go here just on it's own, because there's not a ton to see. Watching them feed the fish, sharks, and stingrays was cool, but at

Rented wheelchair and went through the Bio park with the flowers and plants first. Very nice. Started sprinkling but found shelter in the Japanese garden. Then went to the aquarium part of the park..Small but well thought out with a variety

Good family experience! Very clean spaces. The restaurant/food option is very expensive and the food is not of the best quality. Some of the exhibits were empty and a let down to not see what was supposed to be inside. Small aquarium and a

What a great day. My wife and I spent the morning here. Great time of year the flowers were all blooming. So peaceful and inexpensive way to spend time with each other. The addition of the Japanese garden is by far my favorite place there.

  • Jeff Kelso

We visited here with a little baby and it was a lot of fun! We wandered around and looked at all of the exhibits, many of which were very well done. We especially enjoyed walking through the Pacific Reef and Atlantic Reef exhibits, which

It was a beautiful experience. They had Christmas lights in all kinds of shapes and sizes. In the summer it's a beautiful garden that you walk through.

Nice aquarium, it is kind of small but very worth the stop. I was impressed with the shark viewing area. The ticket from the botanical gardens gets you in here and that place is awesome, so you might as well stop here as well.

Nice aquarium. Brought the 13, 10, and 7 year old kids and they really enjoyed the variety of fish.

Lots of neat fish I'd never seen before! If you get the zoo combo you can go to the aquarium as well via a little trolly that runs back and forth. We had a lot of fun!

Amazing aquarium for the price! Plus, the botanical gardens are included with the bug and butterfly exhibit. Must do if you are passing through with young kids.

A mesmerizing place, perfect for kids. My personal favorite was the zebra shark and the turtles, they were absolutely stunning. Loved the jelly fish as well
