I would give zero stars if I could. I drove my husband to the emergency department after a bad head injury with loss of consciousness. I should have called 911 from the scene but we were a few blocks from Abbott and I mistakenly thought the fastest way to get him care was to drive him there. They immediately took his insurance and checked him in and ordered a head CT, but then sent us to the waiting room to wait?! He had a head injury with loss of consciousness and was continuously bleeding from his nose. It took 1.5 hours just to get the CT scan. He was writhing in pain and confused. I called 911 twice from the waiting room. The paramedics that arrived were sympathetic and said that if it was their loved one, they would have taken him to another hospital from the start. Since their protocol was to transport patients to the nearest hospital and because he was already checked in as a patient here, they couldn’t help us. We waited 3.25 hours in the waiting room just to be taken back into the ED. My husband could have been bleeding into his head and died in the waiting room and no one would have known because no one checked on him once. I had to ask for blankets and ice for him, which they slowly and begrudgingly provided. The staff didn’t offer any basic cares or show any compassion. After 3.75 hours we were told that they didn’t get the correct images and that he needed to go for another CT. How many people die while waiting here?! At any other hospital a head injury trauma with loss of consciousness and confusion would have been treated right away. While we were waiting, a young woman, who was the victim of an assault, came in. I asked the person at the front desk to, “please get her a warm blanket and a glass of water.” He replied with contempt, “I know how to do my job.” In total, it took 4.5 hours just to see a doctor. My husband was never even evaluated by a nurse. He had open wounds that weren’t even looked at or cleaned. I would have left and taken him somewhere else but once he got the first CT, we were stuck because insurance wouldn’t have paid if we left. The care he received was shockingly unsafe and poor quality. I will never go to Abbot Northwestern again or any of their affiliated clinics. I would also like to note that the waiting room only had a couple of people in it and when we were taken back into the emergency room, most of the rooms were empty and nurses were sitting around at the desk so it’s not even because they were busy. Once in a room, no one came into the room to even check on my husband. It took 4 hours for someone to check his vital signs and the person who did so did not sanitize their hands upon entering which is standard in healthcare. There was zero nursing care. His open wound were left uncleaned with gravel in them and skin hanging off. No one besides the doctor introduced themselves. No one gave us updates or let us know what was happening. No one asked us if we needed anything. In total, we were in the emergency room for 6 hours and had less than 15 minutes total interaction with staff. We were awake all night, hungry, thirsty, cold. No one even said, “do you need anything.” No one ever offered pain medicine even though he has multiple facial fractures. They didn’t even show us where the door was when we we’re finally able to leave.

-100 stars PACU and 4000 E. yourse staff is reckless and negligent, I went to Abbott Northwestern on August 25 for a gastric bypass-my surgery was done around 3 PM. I had a nurse name Cindy she kept putting IV drugs into my IV after I asked her not to do it, and she stated it was for the pain. She would not allow me to use the phone and she was talking about my chart with people that were not working on my chart which was a HIPAA violation. Then she closed the curtain so she did not have to see me to help me because she had other patients. If I asked her something she would talk to the curtain would never address me, face-to-face. I laid in the recovery room from 3 PM till 9:30 PM where I got a room on 4000 E. it was 4048 to be exact. At this time we met with the original nurse I would say she was very nice. Her name starts with a J but she got pulled to another floor -so I got some nurse who I didn’t even know her name because she didn’t introduce herself, and when she walked into my room, she did not knock, and she just like blew qthrough the door like a hurricane, and I asked her not to do that because she’s scared me so she decided she wasn’t coming back.. again I had to put on my call light to get help. Any interaction I had with the staff to include medication I had to call for my daughter help me up to the bathroom with alll my IVs and everything else for the full night. That’s not even the best part so it’s the next day and I mean obviously a lot of pain. No one’s told me about my surgery how it went if there was any complications a doctor comes in at six in the morning looks at my surgical cuts and says everything looks OK. You’ll probably be going home. So during the day, I didn’t see my nurse hardly at all. They didn’t even introduce them selves in the morning. I didn’t even know who my nurse was until almost 10 o’clock in the morning and every time that I needed help I had to call him and his trainee. thank goodness I had my husband and my daughter with me. or else I would’ve been totally neglected by these people while they sat on their phones by the nurses desk and just talked and laughed amongst them selves about what they were going to do this weekend. So come 3 o’clock in time to come home someone knocked on the door delivered a wheelchair and said oh it’s time to go and waited by the door until we left didn’t help. Just said goodbye. My nurse did take out five minutes to explain a piece of paper and then left. I was totally disgusted from the beginning. The only good part of this team was the preop and Mary from PACU. The rest of these people are morally unintelligent and neglectful.. I also will be calling CMS about my experience. It’s really sad because these are the people that we trust with our life and they act and treat people in such a manner that is dangerous and neglectful. The last thing I want to touch base on as a disgusting dirty, unsanitary rooms -there was toilet paper in the toilet when we went to the room there was spit on the floor and there was still a tissue with blood on it on the table. What a nightmare I would never recommend this hospital in fact, run away as fast as you can.

I was just discharged following my 3rd and 4th back surgeries. I was admitted and stayed 1 week. I had a mixed experience while there. Of course the food was marginal, but more important was the competence of the providers and staff. I am diabetic, and it really seemed like the MDs overseeing my case, had not dealt much directly with diabetic patients. After 4-5 days my blood sugar ran up into a dangerous range, as they never gave me any longterm insulin, only short acting with food eaten. Well, with my type of diabetes, it is imperative to have that background insulin whether I eat or not. Then after running so high, the Dr On call advised the RN to administer a boatload of the short acting kind of insulin, which brought my blood sugar eventually into a dangerously low amount (like, brain damage low), and then I had to ingest a glucose gel that was disgusting in taste, and only did so.much. After getting that down, I drank several Small cups of OJ,and finally got it back to normal. The hospital uses a computer program called the ENDOTOOL, in which they enter information and the program advises them on what to do, and how much insulin to give. I did get to finally talk with the on call physician, and he went with the endotool as well. It simply seemed like I was the first insulin dependent diabetic that ever went through the spine recovery area. I had been mentioning and asking about giving me the long term insulin for days, but was basically ignored, until this 36 hr episode. I was truly disappointed with this inappropriate care, and believe the MDs during the week basically had no idea how to care for an insulin dependent diabetic. Very shoddy handling. The doctors and nurses should have known how to handle it all much better. Then there was a major snafu on my last day. I was issued discharge paperwork, and told I could get ready to go, but I still had a superficial drain coming from my back incision! I asked about it as I was ready and anxious to go home, but there were no orders pertaining to it, and the nurse assigned to me did not know if I was supposed to have it removed before I left or go home with it, to be dealt with by a home health nurse at my home. It had a portable collection device... So my nurse looked nto it, and the on call surgeon advised them to remove it and redress the incision with clean bandages, Which they finally did. And I was finally able to leave. Now I am just praying that I will not get any new bugs in the incision. For me, it literally could be deadly, if things go awry. I must say that the bedside manner of 98% of the staff was fantastic,, and I am feeling slightly better at the moment...I have to now, though, wait to see if something new arises, and i hate that position. I feel like this was substandard patient care in both cases, and feel obliged to share my story. I was put at risk, unnecessarily. Now I am home andcomfortable, but have to wait and see how things go over the next week or so. Not good.

My Dad was going in for heart surgery and the surgeon told my parents and sister the three of us could wait in the waiting area while my Dad was in surgery. Day of surgery we go at 530am to check in and the lady at the main entrance says we can't go in with him. We tried to explain what the surgeon said and she would not listen. She got to the point where she called us unruly when she called up to the nurses upstairs. Though when she called up to the nurses station she did not explian what my sister was trying to tell her because she would not listen. We were not being unruly, we were trying to explain my dad was having surgery and my mom gets confused and can't be alone while he is in surgery, that if one of us could go with her the other would leave. I walked away at one point so my sister could talk to her because we could not let my elderly mother go up alone. My sister has accompanied my parents to my Dad's 3 appointments before surgery day, with no issue of being told she could not go in to support two elderly parents. BUT the lady at the front desk was not trying to hear anything from anyone. This person (so mad I didn't get her name) was the most unempathetic person. Not a good place for a person like this to be working with people who are already stressed/nervous/scared due to the fact my father was going in for major heart surgury. A small amount of compassion can go along way but I guess not at this hospital. They "let"us wait in the skyway lobby which is the most unsafe and "non covid" safe area of the hospital which is laughable being this is being done because of covid restrictions.. No bathrooms, vending, water fountain, comfortable chairs, and what seems to be the employee entrance. We r 3 years in to "covid" and hospitals haven't figures out how to make an area for family to wait for their loved ones??? I get it U just don't want us here!!!!

I will literally ever come to Abbott Northwestern Hospital ever again. After waiting 4 hours to go into surgery and finally being discharged I’m notified that the valet locked my keys in my car. Great. Then security comes and gives me a waiver to fill out removing them of liability if they damage my vehicle while trying to get it open. I explain that I’m not comfortable signing something if it’s their fault my keys were locked in. He tells me, “Well I didn’t lock your keys in the car.” What? So a “higher up” comes with the worst attitude telling me, “It’s just a signature. If you don’t sign that I can lose my job.” As I’m asking him about why I would have to waive liability this man is making all kinds of noises, blocking out any of my words in a childlike manner and simply walks out of the door and makes his way back into his security vehicle. Beyond disrespectful. Some doctors and nurses have been at my wheelchair side the whole time, completely blown away, nearly in tears on how I was just treated. Fresh out of surgery and still in pain. His demeanor, tone, and overall attitude was absolutely disgusting to experience. At this point I’m ready to switch oncologist and everything, just to avoid coming to this hospital ever again. I swear some people will really treat you as if you’re just some type of irate, uncooperative, hard to deal with person of color for simply trying to ask a question. (I was none of that btw.) I guess Security Robert Buffie’s fear of losing his job was more important than simple patient care. All of the staff around also found it unfair and unbelievable not only of his behavior, but that I would have to sign anything removing fault from them, for a mistake they made in the first place. I’ve been here since 11am. It is now 8pm and I’m just now notified that my keys were locked in. I’m over today.

ER experiences. 3 stars overall. I had exceptionally good experiences with ER on 2 or 3 occasions. But one occasion they sort of used scare tactics on me to get my 4th CAT scan. I had said my pain was gone by the time they saw me and I said I didn't want another radiation exposure. My pain was gone and I knew I didn't have an embolism. But the Young Dr came in and said they didn't feel comfortable not doing one just in case. I said I didn't want one, then the annoying overly confident nurse also kept telling me CT radiation was “perfectly safe” and proceeded to tell me a bunch of hogwash on its safety. I was feeling insecure and confused then as I rely on advise sometimes by default. I regret that scan more than anything. It added a 4th dose of high level radiation to my body, and ever since my 1st or 2nd scan I got in that ER I developed serious issues I feel are related to the radiation exposures within a 5 year period. So Im mainly upset at the ER for 1.the nurse lying to me about the safety of CAT scan radiation. 2. The Dr. for not wanting to accept my declination of another scan. As it ended up showing I was correct I didn't have a pulmonary embolism. I should have trusted gut and stuck to my decision. I know its his job to make best decisions. But I can’t rule out the possibility of monetary incentives to chose use CAT scans. But that nurse with a Southern accent should not tell patients its safe without admitting that high level radiation from Scans can raise cancer risk from accumulated scans. She had no clue or lied. More radiation added into me was the last thing I wanted from a trip to the ER where my symptoms of shortness of breath and chest pressures disappeared during the visit. They should explain the risk of accumulated exposure.

I would give Abbott negative five stars if I could. As per previous reviews poor communication. I asked my husband's doctor if we flew my daughter in from Arizona if she and I would be able to visit my husband in the hospital as he was in for heart issues, NOT COVID. Everybody has been vaccinated and I let him know this. We get to the visitor check in and an African american lady with attitude in the sky way check in says we can't both go in and I tell her that I had asked the doctor and he had said we could both visit. So she calls the security guard to stand by her making us feel like criminals. So my daughter stays in the lobby and I went up and we were going to switch off. I was not going to stay long because I wanted my daughter to have more time with my husband and the nurse in the room with my husband butts in to our private conversation and asks how old my daughter is and then says snottily -Oh she is old enough to be in the lobby for awhile you can stay longer-like it is any of his business. Then my daughter calls me while I am in the room and informs me that the African american lady told her she had to wait in the parking lot in below freezing weather and could NOT stay in the lobby waiting for me to come down. The sky way "lady" had a security guard make my daughter leave the lobby even though she was just sitting there playing games on her phone waiting for me to come back down. Seriously I would not send a dying dog to this hospital, staff is rude, uncaring and unprofessional. I will make sure to let everyone I know NOT to go to Abbott. I am thinking maybe I need to contact a lawyer at this point.

I have been in the ER room for heart trouble at Abbott Northwestern one week ago and Regions Hospital three times. If you have heart trouble and need to go to the ER, go to Abbott Northwestern Hospital. It is much more like the Mayo Clinic. There is a reason why it is the best heart hospital in the twin cities. I took an Uber to the ER. Update 4 months from the first review. In hospital food service is messed up. 50% of the time they miss stuff ordered or give you the wrong stuff. I escalated it to a manager. Nothing changed. Having been admitted 3 times in the last 4 months it is clearly a systemic problem since it happened in Jan and now in April. I wonder if they contracted the whole thing out. It is clearly the people filling the orders in the hospital since the receipts have the missing items. Facilities is substandard not actually fixing the plumbing when when they break it. My toilet kept clogging because someone pulled the metal lining out and bent it and did not fix it. See the picture below. The workman would not actually fix the problem so it would keep clogging, the unit would call and they would unplug it: Groundhog's day! If this happened in a large company someone would have been canned but not at Allina Health! Guess the food service is the same way regarding filling the orders. The saving grace for this hospital is the Heart unit is spectacular, especially the nurses. Hopefully Allina health senior management will not destroy that too in order to pad their millions dollar bonuses.

Allina Health / Abbott Northwestern, I recently had open-heart quadruple bypass surgery at Abbott Northwest Hospital. I would like to THANK my doctors and the whole caring crew at the hospital for their wonderful care from my first doctor's visit all the way through surgery and after! From the start I've received wonderful care. I went to a new doctor at the Edina Allina office--Dr. Anthony Wu--for the first time. I had shortness of breath and wanted my lungs checked. Dr. Wu said everything was clear, but went back into my charts and noticed the EKG was a little different from a few years back so sent me to a cardiologist who had me do an ECHO STRESS WO CONTRAST, and EKG. From there they scheduled an angiogram for a possible stint, but during that procedure they stopped everything and said it looked like a triple bypass would be needed. That's when we met Dr. Attia, who assured us that everything would be fine, and that he's the surgeon to take care of it. When I did get it done he noticed that there were 4 blockages not three. He was right -- everything went great in surgery and after! I highly recommend your hospital and Allina Health! Even though it didn't appear that I had a heart problem, the doctors didn't brush off my symptoms, which may have saved my life. The nursing care afterwards was outstanding, and everyone on staff was professional, friendly, and went above and beyond. Again, please let everyone know how much I greatly appreciate all the help.

11/30/2021 From the moment I walked through the door with my wife (whom is suffering from chronic heart disease) we were pleasantly greeted, listened to, and within one minute brought into the emergency room. There, a team of doctors and nurse's came in, introduced themselves and made my wife and me feel very confident and comfortable. They seemed to work together like a well oiled machine, each there with a specific purpose, one specific narrative; the well being of their collective patient. Personally, having had 11 kidney stone operations over the past 30 years, whereas 6 or 7 were performed here at Abbott Northwestern, I can honestly say that the vibe here has remained the same from my first operation in nearly 29 yrs ago as it is today! The following day, after had been admitted into the hospital, I was once again met by the nurse and one of my wife's doctors. Both VERY pleasant, informative and helpful. Lastly, I was quite impressed that guests could order off the food menu for only $7.99 (at the time of this review) and have lunch with the patient. Of which I had a cheddar cheeseburger with fresh tomato, onions and pickles. Cottage cheese with fresh fruit. Unsweetened ice tea. Blueberry yogurt and some raspberry sherbet. I have to say, this certainly wasn't the hospital food of old that I remember... Great hospital, great staff, and some pretty darn tasty food. Sincerely impressed, Jimmy C.

A family member of mine came in for surgery. The surgery went great, the nurses were good for the most part too. They seemed insanely over worked, but still did their jobs. The issue I have with this place, is that the same family member was in pain when she was discharged 2 days after. So, we had to bring her to the hospital. She was cut open still (staples) and had a catheter in and was in an extreme amount of pain. So we arrived at triage. We were told by her surgeon that the nurses in triage, or the ones working the counter were notified that she was coming and should be brought in asap. Well, the nurses said they never received a call. They proceeded to goof off and ignore their responsibilities while my family member, and other people sat and suffered. My family member needed water since she had a catheter. She needs a constant flow of water and they said she couldn’t have any. She explained her situation and how she NEEDED it, and they still said no. She then called me crying because she was so thirsty. Then an hour later she told me she was throwing up in the waiting room, and the nurses just goofed off, trying on each others glasses instead of helping her. The desk staff are a joke.

I was airlifted here two years ago or so after a salicylate overdose. The providers at the smaller hospital I was transferred from weren't confident I would survive. I was barely conscious when I arrived at Abbott's ICU but I remember immediately feeling eased a bit. Dr Jacoby and the nurses were a rockstar team. They were able to clear everything from my body with intravenous fluids and catheterization within three days, avoiding dialysis which they warned may be necessary. No issues with the cath like infections or anything. There was also a very kind nursing student who stayed in my room when I needed around the clock supervision. And a really friendly male nurse transferred me to the psychiatric wing after, wish I could remember the names. The female adolescent psychologist in that department was amazing as well. Of course an inpatient mental health ward isn't the most comfortable space in any hospital, but at least the food options were very customizable and the activities were engaging. My only gripe is I wish there was more of a follow up physical check up before I was discharged from inpatient as my body still was having some GI issues.

Hung up on me when I asked if they had any available beds, told me they can't help me with that and that my local hospital would need to call them. 3 bad experiences with Allina hospitals within 24 hours including the one at Buffalo Hospital ER which made someone who was incoherent and 70% oxygen, which I believe is crisis level and can be fatal, sign in (including re-sign a couple of spots that they initialed) before they called the nurses for treatment!!! I had to coach them to scribble a line for their signature so they could get through the check-in process!! Inexcusable in my opinion!! An ambulance or deputy would've treated first before asking for the medical insurance card and then saying this one is old and we can't use it to bill can you give us a new one. I was adamant we needed an oxygen tank now but no call was made for the nurses to report they had someone there with low oxygen until they completed their check in process including asking about her medical insurance card. (I went on a police ride along years ago and we got a call about a person short of breath and we got there fast and he gave them oxygen right away.)

I feel discriminate I took my mom with an eye infection she was in a lot of pain when we arrive to the emergency we were the only ones there we check in and nurse tell us that would take couples minutes to get us a room. Other people start showing up and they were taking care first after 2 hours of wait I stand up and ask why other people were going in and not us the nurse tell me that was because Their symptoms, one lady walking in saying that she needs a doctors note because she call in sick to work and she needs a doctors note! It’s that a emergency that’s she need it a room quickly then us??? I wait 4 hours in those four hours of wait other people who come in way after us was seen and not us. I ask the nurse again and he said that we have to wait and he don’t know when they will be ready to see us since there were other people with needs too! It’s this a joke did we need to be blonde so they can let us see a doctor that was a very unfair treat they should treat everyone the same. The hospital should train their employees better so they respect and treat everyone the same.. that was very unprofessional and unfair.

The ICU staff was nice, but then we were told he was being moved to a room around noon1-ish... didn't happen then he would be moved after 3pm shift changes... again didn't happen.. Okay, so around 6-7pm they came with a wheelchair and moved him to 4481 West. Well when we arrived to the room 4481 west was DIRTY ... so hung out in the hallway while they all figured what to do. So 4480 West was clean and put him there. They were uncertain between the 2 doctors orders so he didn't get his meal he ordered. I had a ride and went home. I arrived 2pm the following day. He did not have a good night and was restless. He asked for a heating pad to settle his back. 4 separate nurses forgot the order and he finally got one at 6-7pm. The staff on west had bedside manner that left a lot to be desired. We were told by the doctor we could stay and a social worker would also talk to us. Social worker never came and at 1:15am the charge nurse said no overnight guests and me and my 14years old daughter had to leave. My husband had enough and signed himself out and we left. We will NEVER be back to this hospital by choice.

I have been in & out the ER dealing with a MRSA infection/ allergic reaction and because of antibiotic side effects. I really liked this hospital until last night. I arrived in an ambulance because I felt severely dehydrated and couldn’t swallow. When I got there the nurse was nice at first and then the doctor came in to dismiss how I felt and told me what was going on was not a medical emergency even though when I looked up my symptoms it told me to seek emergency care right away. The doctor said “I can get you a cup of water, but that’s pretty much all I can do for you” I told him I had drank 2 bottles of water and was feeling this way. He walked out and the nurse came back with NO WATER and threw my discharge papers on my lap and said “I will show you out” I said okay I need to use the bathroom she said “the best one to use is the lobby one” it was disgusting and she was just trying to rush me out. I felt like my feelings and my medical issue were dismissed in the worst way possible. Hopefully you don’t have an experience like I had. The other nights I went here I was well taken care of.

The lady that is doing the screening made a bad day even worse at 10am! (The Lady on the sky way) The Dr and nurses were great very companionate and treated us very well. The screening lady was rude and harassed us every time we returned from lunch from stepping outside getting fresh air any time we walked past her. She even called had security say hello. Tentioni is high when you deal with death and this braud didnt help. The person she was training i hope she knows thats not how you treat people A hospital brings life into this world but life also ends there! I dont feel she is a good fit for the position several complaints were filed but most likely nothing will be done because her 2 years there treating people the way she is means they have no one to replace her And there was several people because a whole family was there to say good by to there friend mother grandma before she was removed from life support. (You may notice the negetive reviews are automated. Positive reviews are not there genuine like sky way lady is not)

They lied telling us only one parent could be at the hospital with our kid for surgery citing their small waiting room. They failed to mention that there is a small surgical waiting room, but there’s a much larger non - surgical waiting room that’s empty where the second parent can wait. Also had 2 different people insist on moving us to the outpatient waiting room assuring us that our child was not staying overnight. The doctor finally called to say they didn’t find us in the waiting room??? Explained that the staff had shuffled us to outpatient and the doc insists daughter is definitely staying overnight and we were misinformed by staff. Did not get to speak to the doctor face to face, but had to struggle to hear them on the phone over the sound of the tvs playing in the waiting room background. Will be calling someone to discuss the importance of trust between a hospital and a patient’s family and also finding out which overseeing entity to report this dishonesty and misinformation to.

I had a family member in Abbott twice in the last few months. The communication in the Allina system is sub par. ALL of the frustrations and upset is due to lack of simple communication. It's not hard. Also if a family member is upset and looses their cool, it would be awesome if the charge nurse kept their calm and showed some compassion and professionalism. The upset was caused AGAIN by simple lack of communication. Nothing more or less. If staff doesn't want people upset then maybe try communicating changes , protocol that will affect what a patient and family has already been told. Doctors communicating changes in the chart with specific reasons why as well as taking the time to inform the patient. There is little to no acknowledgement that keeping a patient hospitalized unnecessarily is at a high cost not only economically for our family, insurance but also to a hospital that is in short supply of beds and staff. This is not the exception to care at this hospital, rather the rule

First if all I would like to say thank you to all the great providers and nurses from the time my mother was in the ED at District 1 hospital to the time she was discharged from the Heart Institue at ANW.. The care was beyond great! What I was very disappointed in were the screening staff at the front entrance. We found that only 1 visitor was allowed to see her. Her spouse was already up there. The gal that interacted with us was quit rude had 0 personality and absolutely no compassion for 2 daughters that were very worried about their mother.This was the screening person sitting in the middle of 3. She was working day shift yesterday. The gal that was sitting on the right had her cell phone and using it the entire time we were standing there. My first impressions were very disappointing. They are suppose to be the face of ANW when you walk in. Allina advertises they have great compassion for the pts and visitors they serve. This was unacceptable and very unprofessional.

If I could I’d give them a negative number. They gave me the worst possible care in an ICU, no less, for 6 weeks. I know this because I’m an RN and I’ve looked into my chart during my stay. I was intubated on a ventilator for 6 weeks, not switched to a tracheostomy at 3 weeks which is the standard. Therefore I continually kept getting infections from the endotracheal tube, adding to the Covid pneumonia in my lungs. They felt I would be a “vegetable” when I woke up and told my husband it was time to pull the plug on me. Thankfully my husband told them no and begged for more time and they gave him 7 days. God blessed us and I awoke on the 7th day, not a vegetable. They very quickly discharged me to another hospital within 2 days. I have spoken with them and they say they have discussed my case with those involved as I have asked that this NEVER happen to another patient again. Please, don’t send your loved one to this place.

Brought Dad in on a Monday, he was coherent and able to talk, Dad was dead by Friday. Staff and doctors said there was nothing they could do. Staff and doctors never told us it was serious (in fact, they told us he would probably be able to go home later that week) then they stuck his liver with needles to test for cancer and he never came out from being put under so they put him on dialysis which I think they should have done right away, not 3 days of laying in a hospital bed with jaundice after being admitted. They turned him into a vegtable, they basically told us he was already dead, we didn't even get to say goodbye. I still can't get over the lack of compassion and empathy from the doctor, he looked at and treated my father as if he was already dead. I always thought hospitals are supposed to save lives, not give up on them. I swear on my fathers grave that you people will never collect a dime from my family.

Overall I’d like to give 5 stars but can’t. We went to ER on orders of our retinologist who called ahead of our arrival. The triage portion was actually very quick the waiting for a bed in ER unfortunately about 2 hours and another several hours for a room in the hospital. It took about 9 hours from Start to finish to actually get to a room in the hospital it self. the staff, nurses, and doctors along the way. Incredible!!! My spouse was on the 7th floor for 3 nights and the care was really quite extraordinary. He’s never been hospitalized and they made him feel safe and comfortable. I wish I could remember every name. But it was a very hectic and emotional weekend with so many moving pieces. But I do remember a nurse named Stephanie I think and Dr Brindle but all were so kind and attentive. Just please work on the intake part to try and streamline a bit . Other that that A+

This hospital doesn't deserve any stars, unfortunately this great hospital is now known as one of the worst. After being transferred here from a lovely small hospital to have a procedure done after my gallbladder removal, I sat here for days in pain and suffering with no pain management, nurses speak no english, nobody checks on you, had a weeping IV. Finally when the drs took me for my surgery, they noticed how bad off I was and how little care I was given. I opted to get out as soon as possible and made it well know, under any circumstances, will I ever be taken to Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Ever. For anything. You will more than likely die there or end up way worse than when you got there. If you have any care for yourself or any lived one, you will pass on by this hospital, do not stop, keep going. For the love of God, do not stop here.

Let's talk visitor guidelines. Go to the website there is tons of information that is useless. Searched for over 20 minutes and could not find the visiting hours. It actually stated that if you are going to visit outside of visiting hours (still didn't know what they were ) enter through the emergency room. I arrived at 7:15 a.m. enter through the emergency, because visiting hours were posted on a sign at the front door, and was not allowed in. On the day that the doctors were going to be meeting to come up with a plan my grandmother's two children and husband came with. Guess what only two people in the room at a time. I have searched the visitor tab on the website high and low so I know there is nothing mentioned about that. The visitor information on the website doesn't help at all. Otherwise the hospital's been great.

This used to be the best hospital in the twin cities. I took my husband here for an emergency which turned out to be a small bowel obstruction. Worst mistake of my life. I came here primarily because I used to work here as an ICU nurse. The place is literally all Agency staff. The care was absent. We were admitted to the 7th floor where the agency nurse didn’t understand how to treat an SBO, a rather easy thing to treat, IV fluids and NGT decompression. None was provided until I took action and literally provided my husbands nursing care. He would’ve been there for 4-5 days because staff wouldn’t advance his diet as ordered by the hospitalist and surgeon. Luckily I was there and were able to get discharged after the SBO resolved. I will NEVER come back here.

Literally the worst care ever received was at this hospital. I had Covid pneumonia, on ventilator, in ICU and they never put in tracheostomy until after 6 WEEKS and my family complaining daily about all the infections I was getting because the trach should have been done at 3 weeks. Then, they tried to “pull the plug” on me stating I would probably be like a vegetable once I woke up. But, surprise! Here I am, stronger and smarter than ever before. An RN who is forever grateful to my family and friends who fought to keep me alive. Funny how the moment I woke up they did everything to get me transferred out of their facility. I was discharged within 3 days of waking up. What a blessing! Do not allow yourself or anyone you know to enter this facility for care!

Most of my experiences here have been great. The staff has always been kind and compassionate. Today was different, I went in through the entrance and went over to the check in table to do my Covid screening. I asked for a mask and said I was there for my moms MRI appointment, and that I was meeting my mom and my dad. Immediately the lady at the table said it was one person per patient so I’m going to have to ask you to leave. I completely respect Covid protocol but the way that message was delivered was so cold and so rude. I was going in to support my parents who are finding out today if my moms chemo is working and if her cancer has spread. You work in a hospital… 9/10 people are going through something, the lack of compassion was astonishing.

My mother physically walked in for her open heart surgery at this hospital and died there. The doctor who did the surgery treated us poorly and care less about our opinions. He rushed us with our decisions and did surgery twice on my beloved mother. The communication was horrible throughout! We consistently have to ask to get an answer or updates from someone on the floor. The doctor gave us a 95% rate that surgery will go well as this was a common procedure. We were left confused with many unanswered questions as to why she died when she walked into the OR herself. Now we will never see our beloved mother again. Please choose wisely so you don’t experience such a horrifying nightmare as ours!

All I can say is I'm so disappointed in the front lobby people who let you in. I was there 9 /6 with my dad who was having heart surgery and my mom. They wouldn't let me in to help them to the floor they needed to get to. I told the lady in black hair I was their care giver and she didn't care. They walked alone to the elevators as I was screaming to them where to go. All I can say is COMPASSION!! They were so scared to begin with. Watching your parent walk off not knowing if you'll see one again is unbearable. The uncaring person who helped us at the front door DID NOT HAVE TO HAPPEN. Please don't respond with the same respond everyone gets. We are people who care about their love ones.

My mom was a visitor and one of the nurses that worked there asked why my mom was in the room with my dad if she isn't a nurse. What kind of behavior is this? She is so lucky that my parents are nice and doesn't speak English well. We called to ask if my mom can bring food and sleep over with my dad and they said yes. Their security guard was rude and wouldn't let my mom in. The nurse in charge wouldn't talk to my mom or explain. No one called us that she couldn't sleep after making another decision. Really really bad customer service. One star for my dad's nurses who were really nice and understandable. Update: Security guard is J. Graupe. He's been really rude.

I went to Abbott and the service was pretty good besides the amount of time they had me wait in the room. Later I get the bill and I find out the bill just for being in the emergency room is literally 627.40 regions hospital is only 340 that's almost double! That doesn't include the x-ray and the radiology diagnosis which are different charges but are more reasonable. I tried to call they billing office and a lady told me the only thing they could do was offer me a interest free payment plan. I hope they fix these prices to something more reasonable and honorable and not prices so high. P.S I was only in there for about 2 hours.

My hospital stay at Abbot Northwestern was last February. I've been meaning to write this review for months, but then a busy summer happened. I had shoulder replacement surgery. Everything about my stay went extremely well. Since at this point I've had quite a few hospital stays in a variety of hospitals, I'm basing this review on many hospital experiences. Check in, surgery prep, surgery, after surgery care, and check out all went like clockwork. The nursing care was great, and the student nurses were exceptional. Also the hospital food was a pleasant surprise. All this set me up for a good recovery. Thank you!

The customer service provided by the doctors and nurses at this hospital is below average. On numerous occasions, the nurses forgot to check in, to give my family member pain meds, resulting in him needing the more intense and fast acting meds to get things under control. Nobody is on the same page when it comes to treatments and next steps. One minute we were told surgery was on Wednesday at 12 and the next doctor came in and said surgery was on Thursday. It’s scary to leave the care of your loved one in the hands of such a disorganized hospital. I would recommend having your loved ones treated elsewhere.

I’m not a big fan of this hospital but it’s close to my house. I had a nurse today I believe her name was Abby who was so rude. She asked me a question and I didn’t hear her and instead of repeating it she said I will take it as a no. Which could of been FALSE information on my chart. She didn’t seem to care that I’ve been sick for days. She just wanted me in and out. She saw I didn’t have a fever anymore and rolled her eyes! Nobody goes into urgent cares for fun and if your there it’s cause your sick! Definitely felt like my needs weren’t met or treated in a professional way.

I was Wowed Totally blown away by the proffessional and courtesy attention given to me from the time I walked into the Piper building to prep for surgery. To the time I came into surgery and layed on the operating table. And again thru each step after surgery to recovery and then to my room on a floor. The staff, nurses Internal medicine doctors and one else I was treated not like a patient but like a King. Everyone was so polite, genuine and personable to me. Thank you so much for the horrible experience. Nurse Heather was bar far the most rudest person I’ve ever met in my life. My stay was going fine with everyone until she came and she treated other nurses very mean one of them had to ask her to relax. I just had major stomach surgery on 6/22 and I am just now leaving as I’m typing tears… I’m not sure what to do she just gave me discharge papers and I was going against medical and that my medical won’t cover this stay. Literally born and raised in this hospital I am 26 years old now and I don’t plan on coming Back.

In August, I was hospitalized at Abbott on two occasions. Eight days after passing a 13 mm kidney stone and the accompanying MRSA UTI and fourteen days in an emergent condition following a stroke and Pulmonary Emboli. On both occasions, I received excellent care. Of the parade of nurses, I would give all but one at least four stars and 6 would get 5 stars. All physicians took the time to fully discuss my conditions and plans for treatment. Any hospital stay is a bummer but this hospital always has treated me with respect and excellent care. Thank you.

Horrible experience! Never will go to hospital if I was on my deatb bed. I went for Stomach pain at 2:30am and wasn't released until 11:00am. Found I had a kidney stones. When I was discharged the nurse Cherly force me to leave the room with no transportation or phone. My phone had died during the time frame I was there and not only did she make leave the room for next patient without sympathy or concern for my current condition or mindset. She left this IV THING IN MY ARM BUT FORCED TO THE LOBBY. never again!! Go to somewhere else

Hospital does not follow patients rights. Refuse to give medical documents that is requested by patents. Staff gives family members run just for information that is a patients rights. Several times staff has outright hung up the phone. When leaving messages that is suppose to be sent to a medical provider for a call back and when you finally talk to them they say they never received said messages. It’s over the top when you have to call the hospital every day just to try and get medical information that is in the patents rights.

My recent experience at Abbott for hip replacement surgery was superb - from intake to exiting, hospital staff, nurses and nursing assistants (especially Mike, Janelle, and Rob), PT, anesthesiology docs, nurses, and techs, and especially my surgeon, Dr. Bishoy Gad, and his support team. My family support team consisting of 3 professors were equally as impressed as I was. I am home now, recuperating with the help of Allina's Home Health team and looking forward to a much more enjoyable summer with less pain than last year.

I would give them -5 star, worst hospital experience, stay away from them. My brother got admitted at the ER and he was unconscious. They assumed he was under the influence and continued on treating him poorly. If they cared enough and checked his record they would know that he wouldn’t be under any influence. Once he woke up this wicked team from hell decided to discharge my vulnerable brother to a cap driver at 3 am without our consent because they don’t care and they simply profile people and treat them like trash.

I would not take my worst enemy to Abbott/Northwestern Hospital. My loved one was there and had to be moved to a rehab facility which is fine but he was moved a day ago and we as family were NEVER notified that they were moving him. He has just had a stroke and vascular surgery plus is 83 years old. We are down as contact people. I called Abbott and all you are told is that he is no longer there. I had to start calling rehab facilities myself to find him. That is utterly Ridiculous.

Pretentious train wreck of patient service none of the staff members know where to get information much less direct you to an information desk. Picking up a patient from the Emegancy unit but they gave me the mental health number to call, took way too long to talk to someone who could correct this. Security was away from their posts. Picking up a patient they left them there unattended and don’t tell you where the pick location is. Areas are not clearly labeled in parking ramps.

My experience at Abbott Northwestern Hospital was truly great. The care team in the cardiovascular department was exceptional. Especially the nurses that took care of me on a day-to-day basis, they took the time to get to know me and it was easy to see they truly love their jobs. I am going to make Abbott Northwestern my hospital of choice and hope you consider them for your care. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, which by the way is beating better than it has in years.

Typically they are very helpful for mental health, that is as long as they don’t misdiagnose, or don’t make you aware of diagnoses that they had not officially screened you for. Although their programming is good and staff are trained well. The only thing I get frustrated with is when a provider who’s talked to you for 10-2 minutes will add or take off diagnoses from your list even from someone you’ve seen for months or years before, so just be aware of that.

My daughter went into ER for pain that was told the day before by the ER doctor to come back if it doesn’t get better from the same place. She goes in and gets sent home with a medication that has been off the shelf for months do to possible bacterial contamination. I was impressed with the doctors the first round but doctor today was disappointing! Way spendy to walk in the door and then get sent out not relieving the pain that has been in a range of 9.

Most of the staff were very helpful but quite a few of the nurse's aides were mean and did not provide the services needed from them. For example, they would not help patients use the toilet when needed and patients were left in soiled clothing for hours. Abusive. Ugh. Also, I am vegan and have food allergies. The staff were not helpful and getting my needs met by the kitchen and I lost huge amounts of weight. I was very saddened by my whole experience.

Back in June our son fell from a scooter and sustained a severely broken wrist. We’re beyond thankful for the wonderful experience he received from Dr. O’Laughlin, Dr. Lund and all the staff at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Dr. Lund performed an exceptional surgery that was complex and included two plates. His expertise, communication and compassion were appreciated. The recovery is going well and we are grateful for the care that was provided!

Everyone was very rude here. We were told by alot of the staff that we could bring our baby along since no one can watch her and she is nursing. When we got here it was a different story they don't allow any kids under the age of 5 years old which is absolutely ridiculous. Also the fact that we asked and they said yes. They also only ask some people to keep their masks on but not others. Awful hospital and very dumb rules. Go somewhere else!!

Screening lady was extremely rude on upper floor, person she was training was nice. I just wanted to be with my 14 year old son during his surgery and I was told to wait outside!! So rude and unprofessional, changed review after having so many of your hospitals employees were so helpful in this stressful time, so many went out of there way to help find my way around the hospital I was extremely impressed despite the screening lady.

I tore my acl and fractured my tibias bone and they did X-rays and “tried” a ultrasound. Failed to do both because of how swollen it was and I was sent home without a cast or any medication. I walked on it for 3 months and had to go to the doctor because of major complications I had with walking. They also said I had a uti when I had a kidney infection. They also are not good with mental health. This place should be reviewed!

My husband has been in Abbott for 2 weeks today, he was in better shape when he entered the hospital, he has been on a ventilator for 11 days now , they have not found a good reason for this . I’m ready to have him transferred to Mayo Clinic. I m really worried that the only reason for this is to finally get a positive covid test and more money. All tests done so far can’t explain why he is in the condition he is in. I

Bad experiences here. The lady who checked you in was rude! Rush you and everything to just go back on her phone. She needs to work on her people skills. SMH. We came here already exhausted and worried for our child. We don't need her attitude to just end up being on her phone and giggling. Waited almost 4 hours in the lobby and then another hour in the room, still waiting... first time here, and what a bad experience.

I was hospitalized at Abbott from 7/31 to 8/5. The group of doctors who took care of me were amazing. The nurses however, were the stars!! They truly work so very hard. I had a nurse and an aide in the a.m., and a new nurse and aide in the p.m. All of them were so great!! My favorite was Kidi W. She was such a bright light. I loved when she was working. I didn't have one complaint while there!

Went in with a really bad migraine and wanted help, the staff was kind but completely unhelpful. They took some MRIs and said they would refer me to a neurologist, and that was a lie its two weeks later I'm having fainting spells and the migraine is way worse. Go anywhere but here they don't give two caps about their patients feeling better or not and they will not help you find treatment.

I stayed at the hospital for 5 days, due to my Ketoacidosis and I had a wonderful experience with most nurses, specifically Mario. He was very professional but at the same time he took very good care of me. He kept me company and checked on me constantly. Please give this man a raise!! The Heart Hospital is top notch. I had two heart attacks in 6 months. Two different causes. My cardio team were quick to diagnose, treat, and save my life. Twice. Thorough, compassionate, expert care. The nurses went above and beyond to comfort and care for me. They were personal and caring and I always felt safe. If I needed anything they were there immediately. Thank you. ❤❤❤

My husband had a melanoma surgery with Dr. Economou. This was a surgery right next to his eye. Our experience was amazing from the parking valet to the medical staff and, the waiting room staff. I don't want to leave out the staff at registration! We felt so cared for. A very positive experience, all things considered. We highly recommend Dr. Economou and Abbott Northwestern.

Aside from the ridiculously long ER wait, this hospital has been amazing. I was admitted to the spine unit in the heart hospital. So many wonderful nurses and doctors that go above and beyond. I've been genuinely cared for by compassionate people which makes healing so much better and less stressful. I even was offered free acupuncture in the ER to help with pain and stress!

I had a really great experience at this emergency room. I was helped promptly after arriving and was allowed to lay down in a triage bed as soon as I got there ( rare in er). All the doctors , nurses, and techs were really genuinely caring and took their time giving me the right diagnosis. Special shout out to nurse Colten, he was above and beyond with his care.

I just had spine surgery here and I was very impressed. Every single person I interacted with was pleasant and helpful. The nurses were amazing; very quick when I needed something and on top of my pain. Every doctor that saw me knew my medical history and included me in the decision making. While it wasn't something I plan to do again I would only go there.

I have had to come to this location's Emergency Room on 2 different occasions in the last year and could not be more impressed. The staff...from the nurses, doctors, imaging and lab techs were all extremely friendly and prompt, and always kept me updated with my test results. I felt extremely taken care of, even within the few hours I was there.

Psych unit report: No mandated reporters on site. Keeping a moderately functioning autistic man named Joel locked in a room 24/7. Nursing staff decided to start humiliating me at 10:45 pm. 3 nights of intense irregular heart palpiltations felt like cardiac arrest induction... did not change my meds after I reported it.

I am alive today because of the rock star neurosurgeon, infectious disease specialist and er doc that treated me for a brain tumor 3 years ago. My care all 4 stays was excellent. Had a bad experience with 2 nurses, but everyone else (and I had a ton of other people involved) was absolutely fantastic!

They all were so attentive and sensitive to my needs. The Twin Cities is fortunate to have a facility like this with an A+ staff.

Had my phone stolen by a nurse when I was dropped off in an ambulance. Paramedic handed it to the nurse, she looked me dead in the eyes, did a 180 and walked away. Was told I’d get my phone back by multiple people and it never happened, no one cared. Nice side gig your employees run here.

Going to the emergency room implies an immediate need. Not waiting hours for everything. Once a decision is made to admit someone, it shouldn't take hours to get a room. A recent experience was about twelve hours. I don't want to contact patient care, just to hear a bunch of excuses.

They don't provide parental leave for their own nurses. They only offer to hold your job without pay for 6 months. Besides that, you just have to use sick time. Sick time as a form of maternity leave. Are you kidding me? A hospital doing this is inconceivable.

Emergency room wait time on weekday at 11 am was three hours. Facility was filthy. The curtain in my room had a huge dark stain (blood?) on it. The bathroom floor was sticky from some kind of fluids. They are understaffed and overwhelmed.

Worst emergency room visit ever. I had severe abdominal pains and was vomiting while at Abbott. Waited over 2 hours still not seen, so I left. If I could give them a negative score I would. Go anywhere else but stay away from this place

My daughter has been going there for speech and today was her last day yippy yippy very happy for her she did a really great job. and we got to watch them tearing down the old Emmanuel Mennonite Church on 25th and Clinton Avenue South.

Last time I was here they came in didn't even look at me or up from their computer screen. And are asking $400 to have done NOTHING!! worthless pieces if you ask me. Anything above the 1 stars are obviously the workers. Pathetic

I had a stroke, no fun..however the staff at Abbott neurology department where wonderful to me! Special mention to Dr. Haung, nurses Abbie and Hallie..seriously would of lost it without you guys..highly recommend!

Been here 2 hours in EXCRUCIATING pain and no one has barely even looked at me! I was crying in the lobby from pain, so they stuck me alone in a side room WHERE NO ONE SAW ME!!!

I was in for TOS surgery and a three day recovery and the staff took excellent care of me. No complaints and would happily receive care from them in the future.

I had a wonderful visit with the doctor and nurses. No exceeding wait time, I was properly taken care of. The nurses treated me with courtesy and respect.

This has been the worst hospital ER visit that I have ever had. I have been waiting to be seen for over 3 hours. They keep taking people a head of me.
