I traveled from Lancaster, PA to Los Angeles, California. I had to change trains twice. My 1st transfer the train was late. It was midnight & I had potato chips & Rice Krispy treats for dinner. Finally I boarded the train from Pittsburgh to Chicago. I had a sleeper car & my porter was very helpful. I had never been in the sleeper car. In the morning the porter brought me a continental breakfast as the dining car wasn't open. I arrived in Chicago for my last train change. The station was enormous. I got lunch at the food court. I had trouble getting information on my next train. Finally I found the Amtrak lounge and the employee told me to wait in the lounge & when my train was ready they escorted us to the train. I was in another sleeper car. The men who worked in the dining car asked me what time I wanted to be seated for dinner. It was a historic day! For the first time since the pandemic they gave diners menus & we could choose our meal. I spoke with a couple from Kansas who had been on a long train trip. They said that they had received microwave meals until that evening. Our servers Paul & Ryan were very efficient. I found out that Paul was being bumped from the Southwest Chief to the Coast Starlight. My late husband worked for Metro in Los Angeles & he got bumped several times. Paul would've preferred to stay on the Southwest Chief. Hopefully Amtrak will reconsider this change. My porter was nice & helpful. He was very busy. Turns out we live in the same community. I truly enjoyed my cross country adventure on the Amtrak train and look forward to my next trip!

Great pricing but to be honest the staff on both trains need to be a little more personable . As a disabled person travelling with a legit service animal,( ticket stating both) I didn't get any help whatsoever outside to help move or load my luggage . And on the train when I went in for breakfast ( a 20 dollar omelette and 5 dollar side of bacon) I was scolded by the waiter to put my dog under the table . I had forgotten her little bed at my seat n told him she wouldn't stay under the table on linoleum. He proceeded to very loudly chastise me even goin as far as telling me my dog wasn't a service animal . So after I walked back n got her vest , bed and paperwork, he kind of apologized without taking any accountability. This was on train 3 from KC to Albuquerque. Had to wait 16 hours to even get 5 minutes to let my dog go to the bathroom . Very disappointed in 90%of the staff. Only a couple were understanding towards anything. Still better than greyhound tho

Horrible experience. We were 5 hours late to our destination. Our seats were assigned to other people. Then when called customer care they told us we were lying that the train was only 3 hours late. We were supposed to arrive at our destination at 8am and did not get there until 12:50pm. Then when we explained we were assigned to seats that were already assigned to others, we were also told we were lying. They said they don’t assign seats… yes they do!! When we check in the ticket booth assigned us seats and wrote them down on a small ticket that gets hung above our seats for the conductor to see. The two individuals we spoke with at customer relations (one being a woman named Leigh) were very rude, unprofessional, and combative. It’s unbelievable they can do and say whatever they please and aren’t held accountable. I would not use amtrack! Take a plane or drive.

Love the vendors on the platform. Bought two rings this time, lapis and turquoise. Bring back the burrito lady! She would have sold out. The inside of the station was a dark and deserted empty space. With such a lengthy stop there on Amtraks Southwest Chief, all of the vendors in the station should have been open. I had hoped to stock up on fresh sandwiches, salads, fruit, and chips, maybe some ice cream or Mexican food. Alas, nothing was available. Someone could have ordered 50 pizzas to the platform and sold them all before the train left again. So many missed opportunities at an otherwise lovely station.

I rode the Southwest Chief from Chicago to Albuquerque coach. It was great . After 25 hours it was only a hour late, witch is acceptable. For a big guy the seats could user more padding. An the bathrooms could be better. The staff is top notch. The other riders were friendly. The lounge car is spectacular. I didn't try the food in the Cafe, I packed my own. The views in Colorado and New Mexico are stunning. Worth the trip itself. Make sure you bring a pellow!

I love the taking Amtrak, the staff are very kind and helpful. The food could be better, like more choices or in house cooked meals. I understand due to cost it's impossible; still miss it though. Also accomedations for sleeping could be better. The chairs in coach are comfy, but when you have a long train ride your back eventually will hurt.

Tried coach from KC MO. To LA. 36 hour ride. Going with a room going back. Has a snack bar and dinning car. Prices range from $3.50 to $45.00 for food and drinks. Was a very enjoyable experience. We will travel that way again.

I enjoyed the traveling views, plenty of room to stretch out in my seating area. But wi fi did not work the full 2 day trip. And train/ bus switching details were not easily understood by passengers.

Great service once on board. Not so much at the stations. Some of the train cars are showing their age, some are new looking. Fun way to travel & meet people.

Pretty cool station. Loved that there were local vendors selling their crafts and art. Good food options in walking distance.
