Nice atmosphere and good drinks ruined by overzealous security My friend Ethan took me here to grab a drink. He ordered me some kind of raspberry lemonade sour beer. I believe it was a 16 oz glass and the abv was 5%. I finished it over the course of about 10-15 minutes because I am a slow drinker. The bartender asked if I would like another and I replied “I’m good for now thank you”. I stepped outside the bar for a moment and then tried to come back in. I was told I was intoxicated and would not be allowed back in. I laughed because I thought they were messing with me. When they didn’t laugh too, I realized they were dead serious. They wouldn’t even let me go notify my friend whose car I came in, I had to call him. Luckily he picked up the phone after a few tries and we left. He thought the situation was funny and we laughed about it. I’m not accustomed to the 6000 ft altitude here and I’ve lived at sea level my whole life, so alcohol may have affected me more than it usually does to play devils advocate. I wasn’t causing a problem, spoke no words to anyone other than the bouncer on entry and my friend while we drank. Again, one 16 oz beer at 5% abv. I can’t help but feel this was very uncalled for. Avoid this place, there are plenty of better bars around where you won’t have to deal with this sort of nonsense. To the owner: train your staff

I’m really disappointed with the interaction we had with the gentlemen who were checking id’s yesterday evening. I came with a friend to play pool, my friend is from Louisiana. In Louisiana they give vertical drivers license to those over 21. We were denied service and told Louisiana does not give vertical drivers license to those over 21. How these gentleman know what Louisiana does and does not offer is beyond me. After calling our local police department we were informed that it is not a law, and a vendor will not be fined for accepting this drivers license because it is an out of state drivers license and Louisiana does indeed have different forms of identification laws. In the state of New Mexico, it is stated in House Bill 0813 that a NEW MEXICO vertical id informs vendors of an underage person or if someone has acquired more than 3 DWI’s. Once again, Louisiana has different laws for their forms of identification. I typically love coming to this bar to play pool but I feel discriminated against and very Ill informed by the employees present last night. Please do better.

I've been here a few times and had mixed experiences. The drinks are always good, and the bar tenders are usually very friendly, if not a little rushed. The wait isn't too bad to get a pool table, even on busy nights. The biggest problem with this place is that there's only a couple bar tenders working on any given night. Last time I was there, buying a drink took around 20 minutes just because there weren't near enough people working the bar and one of them had to leave the bar to go sweep up a broken glass out in the main area. The only other complaint that I would have is that they do not check for ID or anything before handing back your credit card when closing a tab. While it worked out nice that I was able to send my friend to go close out my tab while I returned our pool balls, it was a little scary that they were cool with giving my credit card to anybody who knew my name.

Don't let the 3 stars fool you, I actually really like Anodyne and think it's a gem of ABQ. So my slightly lower rating of this establishment is two-fold in purpose: 1) this is my spot, everyone else stay away! (lol), and 2) there are definitely some very easy things mgmt could do to improve the experience for thier patrons even further. For one, you know it's going to be busy on weekends, why not staff like ONE extra person to help with service and clean up? I don't think I've ever been to Anodyne on a weekend where my shoes didn't stick to the floor... Also, I find it odd that pets aren't allowed in, but it's super obivous there's a huge dog that basically lives at the bar... Anyway, just a slight notch higher in cleanliness, and I'd give a 5 star review.

I have been here several times now and I can't find one bad thing to say! The atmosphere is very relaxed with beautiful plants & greenery, a bookcase jam-packed with romance novels (although reading them may be a little difficult because the lighting is dimmed), themed tables with trinkets locked inside, and a truly inspired jukebox! Even though this bar is downtown, you have a variety of personalities and age-ranges, none clashing. Everyone just gets to do their own thing, or mingle, or play pool, or just rock out as they sip great drinks at great prices & are assisted by a stellar staff! If you haven't been here - it's time to go! You will thank me.

  • Gilberto Garcia

Pretty relaxed atmosphere! Not too loud, not too packed, very nice place. In all honesty, the atmosphere was the best thing about Anodyne. There were plants every where, soft lighting, and good music! The pool hall is in an upstairs loft so you have a great view overseeing downtown Albuquerque. Great place to people watch! 10+ billiards tables! Even 2 in a quieter room. The only shortcoming was the drinks. They were overpriced for the quality. Ordered 2 Sex on the beach drinks and received pretty basic versions of them. If you want a relaxed atmosphere where you can sit back on a couch and sip some bottled beers, definitely check it out!

Let me just say, this bar is a fun time. Zero judgement from people in here. The bouncers are pretty nice and the vibe in there is great. But there is one issue with this bar and it has happened multiple times. If you open a tab you have to spend $20. Which is fine, the issue is the last 3 times I have went there. They have overcharged my card or my friends card. You ask them if they have a receipt and they don’t which is ridiculous. If you try and question them on the receipt they call the bouncers over and threaten to kick you out. My only advice for this place if you go. Bring cash because they will screw you over if you have a tab.

  • Mando Rodri

This place has always been sketchy but last night was the last straw apparently their bouncers think it's cool and OK to throw drunk people down the stairs I'm covered in bruises I'm hurt I was humiliated you know all it could have took was a simple Hey get out of here but no one said I was shocked and thrown down the stairs I don't like any of this I was mistreated horribly My friend actually owns the distillery across the street and he was a bouncer before and he never treated people like that so I don't know why these bouncers inside of your establishment think it's OK to hurt and throw drunk people down the stairs

  • Missy (Missy)

What a sick venue/bar/space! Really enjoyed stopping here for a quick bite and solid drinks. The wait staff are very chill and kind, good selection of drinks, and vegan/vegetarian friendly, if needed (thank you!!). They have awesome antique arcade games, outstanding atmosphere, and I’m not sure if they did food before COVID but I really hope they continue!! The Buffalo cauliflower burrito was SO GOOD and I wasn’t really sure if it would be tasty, but I was incredibly happy. Guac? Outstanding. Tacos? Fantastic. If you’re still reading this lengthy review, STOP and GO CHECK IT OUT!

  • Joshua Wiens

I apparently was being condescending when asking the bar about cocktails (asked if they had the liquors to make a last word). So later when we came back to pay our tabs a different bartender implied I would get stabbed for talking to them the way I did. I apologized immediately and felt very very bad about this interaction, but they completely refused to tell me what I said to them that made them upset, as that was not at all my intention. Never will I return to this place, or Albuquerque in general. It was not a good experience.

  • Kevin Miller

Pretty nice indoor dog park! Though it is in a strange location (downtown around some bars), it generously allows masters to sip on cool beer while their dogs socialize. My only complaint, is that occasionally, you might find more people than dogs. My dogs have a great time running a muck, no one bothers to restrain them in anyway; it's wonderful! They get to do whatever they want and it's very liberating for them. I wouldn't recommend bringing your daschund or chihuahua unless they are accustomed to being around larger dogs.

  • Brittny M

This is a great place to shoot some pool or just have a drink. It's super laid back and the drinks are nice and strong. You will need to give your license to get a pool table which are first come first serve, but you can typically get a table pretty easily. Dogs are allowed and so is outside food. I'd recommend getting some tacos from Sister, which is right below Anodyne. You do have to go up a flight of stairs to get to Anodyne and I'm not aware of elevators, so it doesn't seem very handicap accessible.

  • Jill G

i would like to say that i was physically assaulted at this bar by four big men, who were those men? the bouncers. me a tiny little, 100 pound girl was grabbed forcefully on my shoulders, my hips and my waist. this is not okay and bouncers should never ever treat people like this ever. also the owner is trash, we called trying to report the terrible bouncer and he talked over us and would t let us get a word in. terrible terrible terrible. this place deserves to be shut down and sued.

  • Familia Rivera

I enjoyed playing pool here and having drinks with my wife. I felt that the bartenders were nice and the drinks were generous. However, I had a somewhat weird experience with one of the bartenders. I asked her name to thank her for helping us and she replied, 'You don't need to worry about my name". I felt that was a bit rude and paranoid. If I found out her name I could have very well mentioned how well she did on this review! Other than that, nice experience.

  • benny thompson

Great atmosphere, plenty of places to lounge and enjoy a conversation. The pool tables are always busy and there's always tons of people, especially weekends. The wait time for a table is a while. Plan on getting there early to get a table or else miss your chance. Drinks are moderately priced but they give you a full cup. Don't expect fast service as this is a P.O.P.U.L.A.R Bar in Albuquerque, but really worth the experience.

  • Christopher Hitchcock

My gf & I were passing through Albuquerque and decided to check this place out on a Tuesday night. Best bar we've been to so far. It was lively but there was no wait for drinks or pool tables. All staff members were friendly & helpful and they had scrumpy on tap! The bar itself is beautiful, there's hundreds of potted plants hanging from the ceilings around the skylights, there's a reading nook, and the music was excellent.

  • Damien Spencer

I haven't been here in years so I decided to go with friends. The whole place was just like it was years ago. Cool staff, great selection on beers, affordable prices, pool tables, snookers, pinball, the crazy artistic tables, customers that aren't complete asses, and a good atmosphere. Definitely going back again when i need a drink and want to hangout with friends. It is 1 of the only 2 places I will go downtown anymore.

  • Andres Lucero

This is all of my dive bar dreams. I love this nose little spot. Always lively and full of characters from all over the city. The bartenders are usually very speedy especially considering how swamped the bar usually is. The music is all played via digital jukebox so feel free to have some fun. I've even found some old descendents songs in the system before. The pool is usually a wait, but I have no problem with that.

  • Pearletta McDonald

The drinks aren't bad..but I was a little offended when I went here the other day. As soon as we walked in a guy ran at us out of nowhere and demanded to see ID's (which we gave with no problem) . We than had about 3 drinks and watched at least 7 other people come into the bar and NO ONE was approached at all for ID. Maybe it was a racial thing , who knows ? Definitely not happy

  • kiki storme

The WORST bar I have ever been to…..ever. When we got there I gave my ID to the bouncer and he shoved it right back into my hands. The drinks taste HORRIBLE. The bartenders do not know how to make drinks and have an attitude about everything. I will never come back to Albuquerque and I for sure will never come back to this bar. And if anyone asks I will them to never come to this bar.

  • T. Matthew Anderson

Best pool hall I've played in for years. I am no pro, but my wife and I like to sit every now and then. We look for clean and comfortable, which is what we got. The 8 foot tables were in good condition, as we the tools. Music wasn't overbearing and the staff was friendly. Rates were fair, and staff made sure guests followed simple rules to maintain the positive atmosphere. Great job.

  • Jenna Jackson

I never post reviews but this place was bad enough I had to: rudest staff, worst juke box ever, subpar drinks. Was in town visiting family and they actually ruined our night which I didn’t think would be possible. They kicked us out while waiting for our Ubers BEFORE their closing time despite us ordering the rides way before close. Terrible bar, would never recommend.

  • Leeza

One of the few places open on Sunday at 9pm! So happy to find this place because they serve food late at night....drinks were awesome but didn't expect the food to be great but we were wrong! The food was delicious and came fast! Tex Mex with a twist. Good fun and eclectic ! The bartenders are nice and accommodating. Kinda hip place but not intimidating.

  • Casey Wilson

What a cool place. We had great service, because Alex is freaking amazing. We did not play pool but we enjoyed chillin with the plants and enjoying the vibe. They play mostly metal and modern hard rock, but the volume is reasonable and not bothersome for those who don’t really get down with that. I will definitely come back here to hang out next time I am in ABQ.

  • Amanda Frederick

Pretty bad experience. Bartenders were unfriendly and actually threatened my group with face stabbing of all things. They had a drunk person at the bar get in our faces. We were just trying to pay the tab and leave but they wouldn’t let us because they wanted to keep shaming us for an unknown reason. We all had one drink each so no one was acting out.

  • Michael “Ragnarok” Chmura

This place smells like pee, the staff are rude and very unprofessional. They stand around and talk badly about patrons. They don't realize that the patrons are the reason why they are still in business... They need new staff, and maybe it would be a better experience. Do not recommend this place. Aesthetics are very cool but, that only goes so far.

  • Nina VanSickle

I originally rejected the bar because of rumors of its hipster nature, but it is one of the few bars in Albuquerque that I can actually stand for more than a few hours. The wait for a pool table is pretty long, but get there early enough and you can enjoy yourself while you wait. Really knowledgeable bartenders and the crowd isn't super annoying.

  • Chris Irving

I enjoyed going here. The atmosphere is awesome. Variety of people. Everyone especially the bar staff bartender(s) seemed to be attentive to each customer. And if you enjoy playing pool or just relaxing its a night of both. All in All very friendly and cool. They also have great variety of drink(s) Beers to Tap to Shots or in your order. HeHe

  • Hyesun Choi

The drinks are tasty and the pool tables are cool. But I kept getting the wrong drinks and nobody brought the water I desperately needed lol..And when I got absolutely intoxicated and needed the water & to sit, they told us we can't be inside and made us leave. It was kind of sad because I quite liked this place until then

  • pooka WOODS

It has a "hidden" kind of feeling to it which is very charming and further complimented by the windows and hanging plants. The alcohol selection is broad, the pool tables and equipment are in good condition, the bathrooms are clean, and the rockabilly theme adds a lot of character. I really enjoy their Pineapple Cider.

  • Stephen Graham

Great place for social pool. Not to expensive and the service was good. Not the best room for serious pool players as they have cheap home model tables with red felt that could be used for carpeting (I'm not a fan of red cloth). This is a great place to take a date or just hang out and play with your friends. ☮️

  • R Glenn

Second favorite place to go to downtown. Great place to play pool. Only charge $6/hour, which isn't bad considering they take pretty good care of their tables. The mixed drinks are always well balanced and they have a good selection of beers when it comes to draft and bottled. Chill place to hang with friends.

  • Israel Moreno (Chef IM)

Very relaxing place to go play pool or just get a drink with friends. You feel very comfortable and everybody seems to be happy and enjoying their time. Bartender was very attentive. If you need to take money from the ATM they make it very easy and cheap the fee it's only a $1.00 too pull money out.

  • Kian Kamali

There's an edgy, almost retro vibe at this place. It feels like a spot you'd run into Nick Fury trying to relax after saving the world or Frank Castle after a night of fighting bad guys. The ambiance is what makes it. It's been 5 years since I first visited, and I still go back anytime I'm in town.

  • Kaitlynn Garcia

me and some friends went in there hadn’t been to any bars prior and went into anodyne and the bouncer told us we were “too tipsy” to come in when my friend who is deaf asked him what he has said. i have been here before and really liked the bar but bc of this rude service i will not be returning.

  • Erys “Lady Vael” Blackmoor

It's a nice spot to have drinks with some friends, there are plants covering the booths so it feels very fresh when you're able to find a booth, it can get a bit crowded, but there are pool tables and live bands there, thus people are constantly playing drunk musical chairs so to speak :)

  • ooplopoo

Overheard the ginger say she has over 20 years of bartending experience. So why is she so bad at her job? May not be her fault as they are understaffed like crazy. The decor is cool, but that’s not why I’m here, though I am taking in the bad service along with the artsy vibe.

  • Raphaela Viereck

One of my favorite places to go downtown. Drinks are generous for the price, pool tables are available, and the ambiance is really comfortable and consistent. I would like there to be more activities available than pool, as the tables are in really high demand.

  • Colin Heroux

A classic standard when in Albuquerque! There is a wide amount of billiards table available, and many different nooks decorated with plants. It makes for a really cool vibe. The drinks are inexpensive, and the staff is great. This is an excellent repeat spot!

  • Michael Simmons

Fantastic place for a date. Good music, loud enough to talk without others hearing you, but quiet enough for you to talk to each other in a normal tone of voice. Nice dark secluded round booths with tons of privacy. Good affordable (and strong) drinks too

  • Jon May

Great music and the crowd is pretty chill, something you almost never see in this town. It can be a pain at times to get a drink since the bar is so small but the bartenders are always quick to get you what you want. Favorite bar in Albuquerque!

  • Patrick Arite

Was here with a friend and having a very chill time. We were suddenly approached by a someone from behind the bar who commanded my friend to leave because he was "swaying". He had not even ordered a drink yet & was not bothering anyone.

  • D'Aun Flesher

Nice place! Quiet until later, which we appreciate--I don't like loud places and I want to talk to my friends. There are so many fun things to look at! All the places and unique lamps are such a vibe. Drinks are cheap and delicious

  • Emily Lunderman-harris

Great bar. Im there almost one every other week. Good atmosphere. Wonderful bar tenders. Even on busy nights people are friendly and there's almost never a wait for pool tables. I'll keep going for the rest of my life most likely

  • Matt Gassner

Great beer variety, come as you are atmosphere, and better than average clientele. The bartenders totally know their beer, and can wax poetic about just about anything they have. Also, the best jukebox ever in the world.

  • P.M.H. “PMH”

Really awesome pool hall bar. Cool crowd at the bar, really friendly ppl, good drinks, tons of tables. Rent the balls. Yes It's upstairs. The music isn't a juke box lol at least not when I was there. It was rocking.

  • Mary Hernandez

Great atmosphere, drinks, the decorations are really neat and definitely have a groovy 70's feel. I don't play pool but they have a bunch of pool tables. Also, liquid marijuana is where it's at. My go to drink.

  • Christopher Royce

Great place to go Shoot a solid game of pool. Great place to meet up with your friends. Kick back. Enjoy quality drinks with good old rock ‘n’ roll. It is a long time favorite of mine to hang out and shoot pool

  • Kathyrn Hunt

The bar tenders are respectful. They take care of their paying customers and care immensely about their business. They have very good drinks and the atmosphere is relaxing. It's my new favorite place.

  • Naomi ARCHULETA

My favorite place for a drink. Pet friendly, tables and bar available for seating. Pool tables, a jukebox and awesome staff that's for the most part been there forever! See ya guys again soon.

  • Allysha White

The drinks are very well crafted here! I get a Scooby snack as a full sized drink and it's always delicious. It does get packed during the weekends so get there early if you want a pool table.

  • Noah White

Was informed that vertical ID’s are not accepted regardless of legitimacy. I have a vertical Arkansas ID and am 24 and was turned away without any further explanation other than “house rules.”

  • Eddie Carroll

The drinks are strong in the pool tables are good. Service is crazy slow but it's a bar in a downtown so you get what you get. All that said it's still the best pool hall in Albuquerque.

  • Wood Reaux (Woodreaux)

Excellent music. Beautiful flora from the American Southwest on display. Hard working and highly professional staff operating the bar. Also, various literature available for reading.

  • Skyler B

One of my fav places to visit while in NM for the weekends. Super chill with lots of cozy areas to lounge in and plenty of pool tables! Also a great selection of drinks!

  • Noele Aceves

The bartender was great! She made my drink perfectly. A few taps, more cans and bottles. Pool tables and sitting area, no smoking patio due to it being upstairs.

  • first name first

Shhh. This is the best bar in burque and has been forever. Your results may vary but lots of pool tables, great rock playing and locals line up to get in

  • TheChaosInHarmony

The place is clean. Pool tables are nice, sticks are straight and my friend says their White Russians are very good. Staff is chill, location is cool.

  • Mike Wolf

Friendly pool hall in downtown Albuquerque that is a good place to bring a date or bring your family and enjoy yourself any night of the week.

  • Spencer Hutchison

Chill bar, pool hall, sells cigs from a vending machine and pours great drinks! We are so lucky to find this place on our second "hop!"

  • 'Bishal Raj Khanal

It's a good place to go play pool. I like the ambience. It generally has a chill crowd. It has a good layout. Overall, a good place!

  • Victor Jensen

Very nice bar and pool room. Lots of good tables. Short wait to get one. Bar tenders are attentive and the drinks are good.

  • Rye Lu (edisiuS One)

It's a good time good beer good people good pool tables music what else can you ask for? Vibe is always nice and chill too

  • The Cycling Custodian - Joshua Cales

My local pool bar. The cues are crooked, the staff if kind and the beer is reasonably priced. Sounds about right, no?

  • Justin Ruth

Classic pool hall. Staff take care of business and crank out the drinks. Fun place to hang with a larger group.

  • Randi Jenkins

Best place to shoot pool! Sometimes there's a wait, but the tables are well cared for and the drinks are stiff.

  • Branden W.

Every time I come here I feel like I have to be straight. It's funny though, I always see my gay friends here.

  • max fraboni

This place is the most disgusting bar I have ever been too! Please never go here if you value your health

  • Zoltan Vaci

The fascists at the door decide that you're too drunk to enter. The bar. Where drinks are served. Cool.

  • Josue De Aquino

Great atmosphere and friendly bartender. Cool place to hang out with friends and meet new people.

  • Christina montoya

I always have a great time here. Pool is fun and the drinks are fantastic and decently priced.

  • Brent Wilson

Great place to hang out. Nice beer selection and the pool tables are pretty inexpensive

  • Amanda Hall

Kinda crowded, long list for a pool table. Good drinks, mixed crowd, unique decor

  • Swan Qi Designs

All around poor service and rude staff. seems to be a raciest establishment.

  • Sky Davenport

We had a great time good atmosphere. Gr at drink and great service. ❤️ …

  • Connor Browne

Easily the coolest, and most pleasant bar in downtown by a mile.

  • Dennis Ray Mosqueda

Great atmosphere. Decor takes you back! Great memories place!

  • Tomasz Banasik

Nice place but unnecessarily politically oriented.

They got the most plants and least oxygen
