Visited the gardens a few weeks ago. The front entry garden was good looking. The two hedge mazes were decent but it only took approx 5 minutes to navigate through each maze, near by was a nice large fountain area. There was nothing exciting after that. We used the map to navigate through the gardens and stumbled upon boring and lifeless plants. The only blooming plants we saw were some camellias and the lavender which was full of bees and poorly trimmed at the time, so walking along the small paths wasn’t great. There were some yellow flowering plants near by the lavender garden and that was it. If you live on acreage, you won’t be the least bit impressed, especially if you visit during winter. There should be a heavier discount for entry during this season. The rose maze was completely bare, it looked terrible almost like an unkept garden you would see near a cemetery. We didn’t see any rhododendrons or any hellebores (winter rose) It was definitely an underwhelming experience.

I recently came here with my three children (aged 4, 3 and 6 months in a double wide pram). I had read some of the other reviews so already knew I wouldn't be able to go through one of the mazes. I have to say, this place BLEW US AWAY! My children loved exploring, seeing and smelling the beautiful flowers and especially the lavender. We easily spent over 2 hours here. We ate at the cafe and I was confused about others saying it was costly; it wasn't at all! The popcorn chicken came with chips in a rather large bucket that easily fed three of us (obviously baby couldn't eat it!), and it was delicious! I highly, highly recommend this beautiful place... and will definitely be returning! also, thank you to the staff for not getting completely irritated by my 'free spirit' 3 year old who was running me ragged...

Pretty, fun, and kids friendly. We're kids at heart so we enjoyed finding our way around the different mazes. On entry you will be given a map with all the mini attractions to find around the site. There are different small gardens to explore, the rose maze was interesting as there are rose facts around the maze. You can walk around the grounds to view the beautiful trees. We went in autumn so the scenery was filled with gold, red, green, and yellow. Onsite you can find the Flying Calamari Brothers restaurant, we missed our chance to try but will be back as apparently the calamari are amazing.

Very nice place to visit with family, friends or even individually. For the entry price, the experience is well worth it. The mazes were great fun and the different gardens added a peaceful and dreamy touch to the experience, the scents of different plants and flowers was very nice! There are so many awesome photo opportunities and the different fairies and gnomes around the garden were so enjoyable to see! This is a wonderful place to visit if you are wanting a short escape from reality and an entry to a beautiful wonderland.

Love that maze, there is 4 of them, only the first two are pretty nice, second one was more challenging, and narrow, feels like walking in the Harry Potter maze. If you know what i meant. Today was cold, but really lucky that the day was sunny, make the lake and the woods look stunning. It’s definitely a good place for family, or just wanna have a relaxing day.
Picnic area
There is some really amazing picnic area, right next to the lake. Really chilling and relaxing. Also the view are stunning.

A pretty garden to visit, but would definitely recommend coming in spring or summer. We came in June and whilst there were some lovely spots within the garden, there were also some pretty bare patches (eg. The rose maze was pretty empty). Would love to see maybe a discounted entry price in winter to reflect this (entry cost for an adult was $18.50). The hedge mazes were good fun. We didn't look at the café menu, but we did purchase a slice of cheesecake which was rather pricey at $8 a slice.

The gardens are beautiful and the two main mazes are well maintained and super cool. The other mazes really weren’t mazes but ok for children. But geez the staff are so unfriendly and cold. No hello, no smile, no small talk, no explaining anything. Just super unwelcoming. We almost turned the other way after our experience with them. For a tourist spot, maybe train your people to have better customer service. The rating would have been a lot higher but for the service being a let down.

  • Kim T

Overall a mediocre experience. The mazes were fun to explore and there are many places to take photos; however, the whole place seemed to be in maintenance mode - ladders still sitting inside the mazes, water sprinklers that made certain paths hard to walk through, overgrown rose bushes, and lawn mowing that dampened the ambience. The lavender gardens are beautiful to look at and the place has the potential to attract with some beautiful fauna and maintenance to its mazes.

Took my two kids along (5yo and 7yo) and they loved Ashcombe. It's a fairly large property and took us about 1.5hours to meander around and explore every nook and cranny before the kids got a bit worn out. The staff were friendly and as we are still in a Covid watch period there weren't too many people around and the cafe was closed. Overally fantastic fun - 4 mazes to explore and beautiful gardens. Probably great for a date too (there were a few couples there).

  • Adrian S

Ashcombe Maze Garden is a beautiful and relaxing place to visit for a day trip or a weekend getaway. The garden features several hedge maze in Australia, as well as a big garden with beautiful view. The staff are friendly and helpful. The admission fee is reasonable. The garden is well-maintained and offers a variety of activities for all ages and interests. Ashcombe Maze Garden is a must-see attraction for anyone who loves nature, puzzles, or just having fun.

  • Mielikki Spratt

I didn’t feel like I got my money’s worth. The garden was lovely but a lot of the mazes and walk though areas looked like they hadn’t been maintained in a while. The lavender maze was disappointing as there were plenty of lavender bushes but not one lavender flower. Also, none of the water features or foundations were turned on. It would have been nice to stay a while longer and have something at the cafe but that was closed.

  • TheGamingSushiCat

Ashcombe maze & lavender garden is a beautiful place for a lovely walk or when you just want to do something fun. From beautiful gardens to fun mazes, there is something for everyone at Ashcombe. They specialise in lavender and put it in cookies, scones and ice cream so try it for an interesting experience. The staff are friendly and the grounds are kept tidy and you can see they are playing loved.

  • Diarmuid Houston

We had great expectations. The main maze and lavender garden were wonderful fun but the general maintanence of the grounds was pathetic to say the least. The waterfall was non existent because the water channels were leaf infested & lack of water flow. The ticket price is not good value. The lack of maintanence was very sad to say the least. We wouldn’t go back at this stage.

  • James

A pleasant afternoon at the Ashcombe Maze. Entry for adults is about $18 and it took a good 1-1.5 hours to go around the grounds. The two mazes were a bit of fun and took about 5-10 mins each. The other gardens and fountains were a nice place to relax. The cafe had a self-service nespresso machine. Probably won't return but it was nice for people who liked gardens and flowers.

  • Laura Cronin

Always a great time at the maze! The grounds are STUNNING! The mazes are so much fun and the ladies in the gift shop are lovely. Do yourself a favour and visit the drying shed, we went and it was full of lavender hanging to be dried, the smell was incredible! The cost of getting in is nothing compared to the amount of beauty, fun and family quality time this place offers.

  • elizabeth Pistone

The cafe onsite is no longer. There is no food or drinks premises onsite. BYO is welcome. Front of house staff are rude, no greetings or smiles on entry or exit. Garden area is large, took us about 1.5hours to explore slowly. Can easily be done in an hour. Price is steep for what's involved and the time it's achieved in. Wouldn't take the kids back it's defs a once off.

  • Rainer Winkler

A beautiful place. Lovely gardens. The colours of autumn were great. The hedge mazes were fun to walk through. A lot of work has gone into them. The rose and lavender mazes are probably seasonal. Took lots of photos of the gardens and fountains etc. Has the potential for more such as a giant chess board, naughts and crosses squares etc. Thanks for a great experience.

  • Babydoll 1251

Absolutely beautiful place like something out of a fairytale. Reminded me a lot of England. Fields of bluebells, incredibly thought out displays and intricate spots for children to explore So worth the entry cost Beautifully maintained and great value day out Very clean and enourmous sandpit, very clean toilets, nice selection of affordable snacks in cafe

  • Celine E

Visited this place quite a while ago. Went there with couple of my friends, We decided to stop by for a short gateway. Their maze is a must to try, all of us having fun finding the way out and it kinda feels like the maze in Harry potter and the goblet of fire . it was a beautiful walk in the garden as well (their rose and lavender probably seasonal?)

  • Michelle B

Lovely gardens! The hedge mazes are not huuuge but good to explore, the lavendar fields were a tad overgrown and not quite blooming (noting we visited at the very start of the season). There is a gnome and fairy hunt for kids which would definitely keep them entertained, I as an adult enjoyed it, and also a sandpit. Plenty of space for a picnic.

  • Adinda Widya Rani

Beautiful, relaxing, and fun visit. The maze was so much fun to do and a good way to get your steps in! As we were walking around we could just hear pretty birds chirping and it was very peaceful. Clearly a lot of care has been put into these gardens, COVID must’ve hit them hard and I’m encouraging everyone to come visit for a relaxing day out!

  • Britty Boo

it ok was… it was super pretty but customer service wasn’t there that’s for sure and it’s sadly super claustrophobic! definitely not made for anyone bigger then a size 12, which is sad but it was super pretty and the mazes where tricky which was good also if you get bitten by mozzies i definitely don’t recommend i got at least 5 new bites

  • Sushma Kollu

My housemates and I visited this place during the Easter break. We were so excited to visit this place as we read a lot comments about how interesting the mazes were. Sadly, they weren’t. It’s a good place to click pictures but nothing much to see here. Make sure you take some insect spray as there were too many bees in the lavender maze.

  • Shane Kinnear

Love a good hedge maze and this one didnt disappoint. The north maze was a little claustraphobic as the plants have outgrown the space, but the south maze has a challenge tower to reach which was fun to try and get to. Also has a lavender maze and plenty of open grass as well a woodland forest. Worth the visit if you are in the area

  • CP

It was very beautiful by just looking from the entrance, floods with scent of larvender, layout of maze and plantation. The garden was closed when we arrived.at 1456 today. The rating I gave does not reflect the true picture, just tells disappointment when driving 2 hours finding it closed. it should be a different place to look at

  • Amiri

We absolutely enjoyed our time here. Strolling through these beautiful grounds and gardens. Birds singing, bees buzzing. Plenty of places to rest in the shade or luxuriate in the sun. We spent about an hour and a half and felt relaxed and pampered from these gorgeous gardens and grounds. Definitely worth the money. …

  • Mandy Choy

The maze is challenging for adult. There is a viewing platform in the middle of the maze,it’s worth to get in! The lavender frame is blooming like 10%, better visit in few weeks later. It takes at least 1.5h to see all the places. Unfortunately the cafe is close but you can get soft drinks, ice cream and dried lavender.

  • Hai Nguyen

A great day out with the family. Easy spend over 2 hours here exploring and appreciating everything on offer. The maze walkways are a bit narrow and can be right when multiple groups are passing each other, but overall still fun. Lots of other activities other than the mazes too. Food at the cafe is expensive though!

  • Leanne Ngo

Such a beautiful place for young and old. This place has a quaint little cafe, a gnome and fairy scavenger hunt, a fairy shop, nursery, endless gardens filled with flowers - lavenders, roses, poppies... and multiple maze fun. Plenty of garden benches and green leafy trees to take take in the beautiful surrounds.

  • Bermil Davy

Beautiful maze gardens that are fun to navigate through. Kids will enjoy it. The area around the lake is covered by trees which is perfect for a picnic, but unfortunately that isn't allowed. Tried the famous Lavender scone and it was definitely unique and tasty. The $18 entrance fee for adults is a bit pricy.

  • Maddy Jayde

Ashcombe maze is absolutely delightful. Stunning gardens and lots of areas to walk around and explore. One of the mazes is actually pretty difficult and it was a tight squeeze, so I probably won’t go in there again. But otherwise it’s such a lovely spot to take photos and explore with friends / kids.

  • Adam Berry

Had the grumpiest person serve us, think we actually overpaid in the end due to our group size. The mazes were fun. It's a little wet under for so be ready to get a little dirty. Spent about 45 mins there. I'm not sure it is worth the money, but it's something different to do to fill your weekend.

  • Leonie Farrugia

Use to be great but declining. Lack of staff so cafe closed. Hedges need trimming and reshaping as getting very overgrown in many pathways through maze. Seems cut-outs have been done in maze but not sure if you could use them. Trying to update gardens which will be lovely when fully developed.

  • Tim Ruan

Reasonable entry fee of $18.50 for adults, although it's much more aimed at children and tourists. The mazes themselves were very basic, and would take any logical adult about 5 - 10 minutes each to do. The southern maze (pictured) was extremely easy as the plants weren't even fully grown.

  • scott kolbe

I’m rating this 4 stars but more specifically this is an 8.3/10 experience. The hedges were well trimmed but a little in the spiky in places. Don’t wear a new puffy jacket. We spent a long time looking for a Minotaur without success. Lovely staff - no coffee. Beautiful in autumn.

  • Maussie InTheBaltics

Ashcombe Maze & Lavender gardens....well maintained hedge maze, great place for kids to explore, very large grounds.....friendly staff and nice cafe onsite...lovely in Autumn, but as with most gardens probably @ it's best in Spring....will visit again in Oct/Nov.........~ : )

  • Saz B

Not worth the price for admission. 1st maze is okay. But the second one just has way too many branches sticking out and is extremely narrow to try and navigate. The cafe food / drinks also not that great. And needs more toilets. Don’t waste your time or money on this place

  • Rebekah Salvaire

This was the most chill, fun, joyful, peaceful place. I had the best day. A must go.
Playground
Currently under construction but coming soon.
Restrooms
Multiple on site.
Dog-friendliness
No dogs allowed
Picnic area
So many spaces to picnic.

  • Gareth Simpson

Pretty cute maze-based attraction. It's a bit rough and ready, particularly on a wet day, but don't let that put you off. Our daughter loved this place and wanted to return. The gnome and fairy hunt was a hit, probably the thing that provided the most entertainment.

  • laura dell

This was definitely a must! Beautiful gardens very clean and well cared for. The maze was good fun Wouldn't recommend a February visit however the rose maze and lavender maze were not in full bloom but I still appreciate the affordable little day trip !

  • Mahi Sathsarani

A great outing to go with family or friends. The mazes were fun especially the Northern Maze and there were some spectacular areas for photos. Maybe it's because of the time of the year, but some maintenance and cleaning was needed but overall great!

  • thilini jayawansa

Love the three maze, new experience for us which never been to a maze before and nicely maintained. But not happy with the condition of the rest of the gardens. Not properly maintained, looks so dry, doesn't look like the images online. Dissapointed

  • Fwa SmAsH

This place is not big. You can just spend less than 1 hour there if you just want to walk around and take some photos. Avoid to go there in winter coz it's not beautiful. Recommend to try their Lavender Ice Cream in the cafe. The taste is fresh!

  • Divino Fernandez

Waaay overpriced for the garden entry and food. You pay $1 for tomato sauce. The old guy staff is rude. The young asian lady in the counter is pleasant though. You'll drink water off small plastic cups. Food is just okay. Not coming back again.

  • Josh Hay

Looks like the place is in need of a good spruce up after what I assume was a hard couple of years due to covid. The more people go the better it'll get. Cafe was understandably closed, but could have atleast had the coffee machine running.

  • Christine Lovatt

Fantastic venue for our extended family group of 15, with kids from 3 to 8yrs old. Could have spent all day here, amazing gardens, cleverly built mazes and beautiful lavender gardens. Kids had fun tracking down all the gnomes & fairies

  • skeleton shin

Ticket prices than I found on the network is not the same, the maze is divided into two parts, part of the plant is not rich, walk up will see the other side, less fun. The plants of the other half of the maze are too dense to walk!

  • Rohan Devkota

It was a wonderful experience and we have lot of fun . I suggest if you are broad and searching for a place to spend you day with your friends you must go to this place . You will lived it I can confirm that …

  • Rafael阿飛

Good place! One thing should be mentioned is that their fish and chips cost 17 dollars and contain with 2 fishes and chips and lots of salad, it is valued but it's better for 2 persons to have an adult's fish and chips

  • Jancy Dsouza

Gud place to walk , we visited in August however the flowering time is nxt season in spring. Kids will love it as der is a big maze and an adventure(hunt) to look for fairies and gnomes which keeps them entertained ..

  • Rus Ti

Beautiful scenery and a relaxing walk... Peaceful and tranquil. A great place for a wander through some well tended gardens.
Restrooms
Toilets on site
Dog-friendliness

  • Jason Ma

Very beautiful garden. Delicious unique lavender foods. But if you are here for large lavender farm you probably will be disappointed. But other flowers and maze are extremely beautiful. Worth that entry price.

  • Angie Keegan

Loved getting lost in the maze was so much fun. We participated in the gnome and fairy hunt. That just added so much more fun as we walked around and around. Gardens are beautiful and well landscaped. …

  • Simon Cassidy

There are plenty of other free gardens that are lovely in the area worth it once for the mazes if you have small children. Don't expect the cafe to be open or have food. Snack such as packets of chips only.

  • Make It Happen Adventures

A great day out at the Ashcombe maze. Was a great experience the kids loved trying to find the gnomes and fairies. The lunch from the cafe on site was really good as well. Definitely recommend this place.

  • Saranya G

Great place for a peaceful walk , must visit rose maze and the entire place is fun. Kids will love the maze game and the lavender garden was pleasant at its best . Good time to visit during sunny days .

  • Brad

Such a beautiful place, I came here with my grandparents when I was my daughters age. Both girls had a ball with the gnome and fairy hunt. Then asked to take all the photos of the beautiful rose maze.

  • Anamika

The garden was a very cute little hidden treasure in the area, wasn't a fan of the cafe but good for an experience! Found it a tad bit pricier for my taste but a maze is a maze worth getting lost in!

  • India Molloy

We came here on a beautiful sunny spring day and we're blown away by the beauty of the entire garden. Definitely worth the $17 in. Beautiful flowers, cool maze and lavender garden. Highly recommend.

  • Joseph Chiong

It was overrated. It is a park with different small mazes but winter is not a time to visit as lavender is not blossom and the place is depressing with few people around. Coffee shop was closed.

  • Janene

A lovely way to spend an afternoon. Beautifully maintained gardens with plenty to look at, smell and touch. The food at the cafe was tasty, with good service. The prices were on the high side.

  • Grant Mckay

Amazing gardens with water features , mazes made from trees , lavender garden , lakes and creeks and a cafe. Well worth a visit to the Mornington Peninsula, fantastic photo opportunitys here .

  • Cyril Lim

Lovely place to go for a half-day in calmer weather. Can be quite dusty when windy. Important to set aside a reasonable amount of time to walk through the whole place given the amount to see!

  • Kelli Ng

A fun experience with a few mazes to explore and expansive gardens. I felt it could do with a bit more maintenance though and it's a bit pricey for adults. Spent an hour or so here.

  • Michele Parry

Beautiful gardens and superb food, so tranquil. The mazes are fun and we did get lost a few times. Great place for an afternoon and something to eat. Scones were very yummy …

  • Bella

Great day out whether it be with the family or just to take a stroll through the beautiful gardens to relax your mind. Would've been nice if the Cafe was open ... maybe next time.

  • Esha Gulyani

Amazing place .. good experience .. although we felt it’s a bit pricey but would totally recommend going here especially if you have kids .. maintenance is good and friendly staff

  • Kidrose T

Amazing stop near all the wineries where your family can spend 2 hours at least. We went in autumn and garden looks amazing! Nice choice for outdoor activities and events.

  • Ames Corcoran

Visited in Autumn and the gardens were just beautiful. Restaurant/Cafe on site but we didn't dine. Mazes were fun to explore. The Fairy walk was by far our favourite spot

  • E Chiang

It’s probably a good place for families with kids or elderly people. Only two ladies toilets in the whole property. Maintenance of the garden could have been better.

  • Chloe M

Beautiful location. Nice toilets. Great for picnics. Some of the mazes need more maintenance, but they're still really good, one was particularly challenging.

  • Ben

Beautiful gardens and the kids loved the mazes! The resident dog was super friendly and great with the kids. Was a good school holiday activity! Great fun!

  • Melissa Green (Missa)

Beautiful maze and gardens, lots of local and global flora. Very fun gnome/fairy hunt activity for kids (and big kids...). Perfect for sunny weather …

  • Amanda Weeks

Great place to visit for families. We all had a great time. Will definitely be coming back. Money well spent. Our daughter will not stop talking about it.

  • Yen Yang (Zoey)

Food is ok. The garden was great to take a look and enjoy the moment to take a walk! Many kinds of plants, flowers, trees should be great in every season!

  • Julian Kali

Drove 2 hours and the Cafe was closed at 12pm during peak tourism time. Very disappointing as we wanted to have lunch and then walk through the gardens.

  • Mommy Alice and Hailey

My first time visiting and it’s beautiful place entry 18$. But it’s little bit hard for pram to entry small walk spaces. My double can’t go many places.

  • pooja Rao

Beautiful place. The three different mazes were fun to walk around. Kids enjoyed going on a gnome/ fairy hunt. We had a wonderful time at Ashcombe Maze

  • Oliver Bücker

We had a blast! Landscaping was fantastic, the maze loads of fun and hunting gnomes and fairies with the kids checked every box. Recommended!

  • Jinwoo Oh

peaceful greens that cover the sun, good scent, enjoyable mazes two thumbs up, it would have been even better if any hot food was available.

  • Sylvia Bayside Yoga

Colorful autumn day with plenty of space to run around and have picnic, disappointing to have coffee / rest shut for Anzac Day though …

  • Steve Dickson

It's a lovely place to wander around, our 8yr old grandson loved finding all the gnomes ... the lavender scones were tasty .. worth a visit.

  • Adam Liptak

Lovely gardens, the proper maze is great, not pram friendly, very narrow at times even walking. Whole venue is a beautiful place for family

  • Erin Kim (eRiNo)

I was expecting bigger maze but still it was nice afternoon spending time at this garden. Watch out for millions of bees near lavenders.

  • Siyam Sivananathan

I went to the maze garden, and it was peaceful and pretty. The mazes may be small, but they're really fun. It's a great place to relax.

  • Aida Pahang

It was a little beautiful garden with mazes. You need to pay in entrance. There is free parking also coffee and food vans to eat/drink.

  • Myra Watson

Such a lovely place. Great for kids and adults. Food was really nice too. Spent around about an hour and a half there. Would go again.

  • Ruban Than

Wonderful Maze experience. Lavender Garden reminiscent of the English style garden at the Marie Antoinette cottage in Versailles.

  • norm wanke

Nice place with lovely gardens and mazes. I enjoyed the north maze the most. Cafe was not serving food or coffee when we attended

Beautiful place to visit with reasonable entrance fee. Lovely cafe on the side, must try their lavender ice cream.
