Before I say anything I want to say this. I have been to many different post offices around melbourne through out the years and they have all been great. Polite, friendly, helpful and all round excellent communicators who were efficient at what they do and are great human beings in general. But stepping into this post office is like stepping into another dimension. for the worst, that is. The elderly Asian couple that look after this office drive me crazy, with respect to elderly and Asian peoples first and foremost. Seriously it's not funny anymore!!! I have lived in Fitzroy North with my wife and daughter for over two years now and going to the same local post office at 155 Scotchmer St. I am truly sick and tired of the same negligence and lack of accountability in regards to general office practices and behaviors. The lady post office worker is always condescending and blunt with how she talks to you. small things like greetings and mannerisms included. She very blunt, racist at times and forceful to name but a few. I have seen her personally insult and belittle other customers in front of me for things that have nothing to do with them. The elderly man is obviously very bitter about something all the time. Never smiling or greeting the customer. 'No how ya going' 'No have a good day' when you leave, you know things like basic manners and customer service are non-existent here. The guy works at turtle speed while arguing with his wife which isn't doing me or anybody else any favors as a customer. I'm usually short of time and in other instances I just don't wanna hear it. I don't need to hear it. I am a very busy father and husband plain and simple. I honestly haven't got the patience for actual 'paid' Australia Post Office workers insulting and belittling people at any time of the day. Their service, which is meant to be fast, reliable, efficient, customer focused and consistent with people who truly enjoy their chosen occupations is not. Not at this post office. Honestly, this place is the complete opposite of normal. These two characters running this particular office are in desperate need of a swift transition into retirement to say the least. You know? hire people who always go to work with a reasonably positive outlook on life and the job. Wake up Australia Post you are obviously out of touch with your customers at North Fitzroy Post Office!

. They are the rudest, meanest, most exceptionally unhelpful people that I have ever come across in Australia Post. I'm sure it's people like this couple are the reason Australia Post is losing so many jobs. And if you are wondering why I go there at all? Well it happens to be where my parcels get sent. Thankfully I don't get too many parcels. They need to get out of that business and let people who want to work take over. I've read in another review that we should accept it as that is what it's like in other Asians countries. Well that is a load of bull! We are in Australia and they need to learn our ways. I have never been treated so rudely EVER in any shop. My crime? I asked to collect my parcel. And may God forgive me for making them go look for it as they were busy! Remember this people- it is our money! We buy things that are sent by parcels. We pay our bills etc. Yet all they care about is treating us all like we are the scum of the earth. Like I said- they need to get out. Let someone who wants to work be there! I would like to add a little update to my post. The past couple of months that I've had to go into this Post Office have been as different as night+ day since 9 months ago when I had the worst experiences EVER!! I think my complaint ( I'm not ashamed to admit I complained to Aust Post), has worked! Something has definitely changed as the last few times I've been in there( over a period of past 3-4 months), the lady has been very friendly toward me. Her husband still is very wary of me ( and won't serve me!), the young man has been super helpful. It's actually been a pleasant experience going in there! I can't believe I'm actually writing this! However, I believe in giving credit when due and lately I haven't dreaded going in there. So I really hope they read these comments and keep on trying to be friendly. It's so much better for all of us! And North Fitzroy is a great place to live, great people, great little community. And their business is a part of this community! So keep it up! Your doing well!

Went in to take photos for my passport application. This morning the gentleman was working alone but he was a super efficient multitasker without compromising service to his customers. Noticed He greeted some regular customers by name and made connections. He always squeeze in a little convo in between transactions that makes this joint homely and not robotic. When it was my turn and without asking, he went above and beyond by providing more information about the process of my passport applications than the actual official passport website itself. Specifically he showed me how the expected returned parcel will look like and the time the department will send me a text or email. Moving forward, even though there's a nearer auspost closer to me, I will continue to support this small business because they serve their community with responsibility and excellence. Great first impression but last impression still lingers. Well done!

I love this place. It's a wonderful, chaotic, small corner of the world where pomp and ceremony is made of the tiniest tenets of following the rules. Agree with another reviewer who mentions if you go to an Asian country, you get the same officious service. So true! I think this family is from Hong Kong. They work pretty hard in a cramped space with all the boxes that are being delivered there. They're pretty good in that they usually extend the time allocated for holding your parcel - I collected a parcel after 10 days there and was so grateful they'd kept it. Yes, they can be abrupt and use a clipped manner of articulating what they want you to do next when you're filling out a form, or what-have-you, but that's part of their charm. Smile and go with the flow. Enjoy the theatre of it all. Lovely, happy family who clearly love what they do and work very hard to follow the rules.

Extremely rude staff. A man and a woman, both elderly people of Asian descent, are possibly the rudest staff I've ever encountered at any post office. I live in the area and unfortunately have to deal with them every time I receive a parcel and have to pick it up. Every time they make a huge deal about it, like it's not their job and they are doing me the biggest favour. Especially if I couldn't come straight away and am picking up the parcel after a few days - of my, how dare I? Now they have to go and check somewhere in the back room for it - the horror! They sure do everything to display their displeasure. In other words, possibly the worst staff ever. If you can, take your business to a different post office, or figure out which days the two aren't working (there's a young man working some days and he's better in comparison).

Not just a post office, but also an experience! I went to collect my parcel at Christmas and was greeted by a kind lady who thoroughly checked my documentation. She enquired about the parcel size, to which I told her I didn’t know as someone else had sent me a gift. After much deliberation and consultation with other staff members, they located my parcel which had been sent to the “Richards Family” and did not include my name. Upon receiving the parcel, I also received advice about how you should write the first name on parcels when posting them. My reply that someone else sent the parcel was not important. Often in life we are in too much of a hurry but this is a place where staff take time to ensure post is delivered to the correct address, and that correct addresses need to be used in the future! Lesson learned.

I love this place. I never come home without a cracking story to tell. Last time, they wouldn't give me my parcel because I didn't have the wet piece of cardboard they threw over my front fence informing me that I had a parcel! My ten pieces of photo ID just didn't cut it! Anyway, eventually they relented but do you think they could find my parcel in that homeless shelter they call a Post Office? She was literally kicking down the small city of crap they've built there behind the counter. Eventually they found it, all screwed up and damaged. Just last week she screamed at my missus for getting too many parcels. Comedy gold, I'm telling you. Get in there before Australia Post wakes up and kicks them out. It really is too good to miss!

I’ve never expected to see such low rating in a post office but now I know why. Customer service was absolutely appalling. I was the only one in the shop and still I was rushed. The man at the counter was unbelievably rude not only to me but also to another poor customer outside collecting their mails. I just didn’t expect I have to write a review about a post office and it’s my first time ever giving negative review on google but I really feel compelled to write one. There’s no way a customer should be treated as if we are here to ask for troubles. If you can avoid going please do for there’s no reason to be talked down especially over some really simple postage transactions.

  • Kelly Paxino

We live almost directly opposite this Post Office, but we pay to have a PO Box in Carlton North so we don't have to deal with the horrific service at Fitzroy North LPO. Wait times are terrible, the staff are rude and they remain oblivious to the fact that parcel delivery slips are often neglected. They fail to understand that you're not going to go into the PO to pick up a parcel if you don't know that it's there. Being rude to customers might be the cultural norm, as suggested by other reviewers but the incompetence of the staff here is not. I'll continue to pay for a PO Box in an effort to avoid this place until it changes hands.

I often see him working alone, like 99% of the time when i visited this post office. He got good memorising people's name parcels. He works fast and gets the work done. I don't see why people need to down rating on him just cos he doesn't always show smiling or talk like a 5 stars services to you. What matters is that he gets the jobs done and fast. He is a hard-working man! Be proud that he always there servings our parcels. I have not seen him in sick leave or holiday leave yet in my past 5 years visiting this office.

  • Gretta Little

I have pitty for anyone who has to deal with Australian Post Office in Fitzroy North. The most incompetent, unorganised and rude people. They make a simple task seem like such a challenge and inconvenience. I've been living here for nearly a year and I'm yet to go there without any mishaps. They've lost my parcels in the past, they've also gotten angry at me for not picking up a parcel they had sitting there for over a month....however I never received a slip in my mailbox! I try to avoid this place as much as possible.

Best Post office in Melbourne! Jimmy and his parents do a fabulous job. It's a real shame that people don't appreciate their eccentricities and hard work. They’re never rude on purpose — they’re just running a fairly busy post office with a small team. Jimmy in particular is extremely knowledgable, and will always do his best to help you when he has the time. I would hate moving away from this as my local LPO! If you have a decent sense of humour, and aren’t too impatient or entitled, you’ll love coming here.

Every visit to the Fitzroy North post office is an adventure. Visiting a post office, shouldn't be like starring in your own episode of faulty towers - But here you can live that dream. The value from the family at this post office is not something you really understand until you've dipped your toes a few times. They're aren't many places that remember your name in a business like this. Genuine, outgoing and helpful, just don't think you're going to get in and out in under 2 minutes.

  • Arielle F.

Ugh. I loathe having to come to this location to pick up my parcels. The staff are really unhelpful and in fact rather rude. Seems they don't like their customers at all. This, coupled with the long line-ups, creates a perfect storm of awfulness. Also one of our packages was never received, and the sender never got it back. I don't know who to blame for this but I'm inclined to point the blame at the LPO itself. I wish I could have my parcels redirected to a different post office!

  • Chloe Haigh

Jimmy is a master at juggling a long line with wonderful service. He went above and beyond to help me get my WWCC, helping me when there was a website glitch and advising me on how to fill out the application despite that it technically isn't his job. He was super quick and friendly, and you can tell he is a master at his work. I could see how he quickly identified packages amongst the piles, and remembered customers names, making them feel welcome. Thank you Jimmy!

  • Kit Murphie

I think everyone needs to chill the f*** out and stop giving this place such a bad rap. They are super efficient and you can tell they're working as hard as they can. I frequent this post office for various reasons and am always greeted with a smile. I pick up my packages/send my packages and it's always hassle free. Sometimes there is a (quick moving) line but why blame the rising population of Fitzroy North on these humble guys?

  • Rhys van der Waerden

Yet to have a satisfactory experience here. Make sure to take the morning off if you need to pick up a package before work. The staff are aliens to efficiency. They work as if they're pushing their way through a pool of molasses. No number of impatient customers could inspire expediency in them. The most frustrating part is that the staff seem to be the managers, yet they do nothing to improve their processes.

  • Jessa Boanas

I nearly didn’t want to get a post box here because the google reviews were so bad, however my experience has been really positive. The guy who runs it spent heaps of time making sure I knew exactly what my options were. While he served me, loads of people walked in who were being served at the other counter and he knew all their names and said hello to all of them. I was really impressed.

  • Joseph Moon

I've lived North Fitzroy for over 5 years. I generally find the service to be a little slow but extremely comical. The younger attendant has always been easy to understand and helpful... The older couple are the ones who seem to rub the customers up the wrong way. I will note that my dear mother had a very bad experience once and swore never to return. Strap yourself in for the wild ride.

  • H A

This is where the Post Master does his businesses, it is the most efficient post office I have ever visited and I am privileged that it is in my neighbourhood. The gentleman who operates this post office is the fastest Australia Post worker I have ever seen, he is polite and gets the job done with no hassle or bulls--t. Bless this man and his incredible speed and accuracy.

  • candice september

Only go into this place if you have time up your sleeve. The elderly couple do things very slowly and double check everything -which isn’t a bad thing. It just takes time. If something goes wrong and it’s not your fault then the elderly woman will give you a life lesson on it regardless of who’s fault it is. Sometimes funny, sometimes frustrating but always entertaining.

We’ve been going to Fitzroy north Post Office for 15 years now.Holly, Mark & Jimmy are some of the hardest working people I’ve met. They are always friendly and super efficient, Always going out of their way to help us out. When our little boy comes with us to the post office he is always greeted with a huge ... Great Family business. Keep up the good work.

  • Ed Gardiner

I don't understand the negative reviews. I've been coming here for two years at least monthly and have never had an issue. Never had a package lost or a delivery missed. Its a friendly, family business. They aren't over the top like most retailers which is what many people seem to expect. Fantastic service and I'll be sorry to move to a different post office.

  • Veronika Aifeld

Wouldn't be surprised if this happens to be the worst post office in the country. Extremely rude staff, terrible customer service. The two elderly people that run it not only verbally attach each other, but also wouldn't hesitate to insult and belittle their customers. Avoid it at all cost, if you don't want your mood ruined for the rest of the day.

  • Louise Alexander

I love coming here. The son Jimmy works extremely hard and is always friendly, honest and helpful. They’re very good at getting you the cheapest price for sending parcels. I would just allow extra time as it’s always super busy. Their parcel delivery guy is also super friendly and always knocks rather than just leaving a card.

  • Basile Michael

people seem to forget that there is only 3 people working at a post office where line can sometimes stretch out of the door, Jimmy and his parents are some of the most helpful people in Fitzroy North and are extremely efficient. I have been coming here for over 10 years and the service has been top-notch most of the time

  • Allie Ea

This post office is hilarious and I always enjoy coming in for a visit. Always fun to see what hi-jinx they're getting up to. For those that find them rude I don't think they mean to be it can just come across that way. Service can be slow at times so I would recommend only going in when you have plenty of time to spare.

  • ALEXANDRE Samantha

Great staff, and super efficient! I dropped a parcel this morning and unfortunately lost my tracking number on the way back home. I called and the (super busy) man found my parcel in the enormous pile, patiently repeated the number twice to me, all while being super nice about it. In one minute I was sorted! Many thanks!

  • Sarah Tsafcas

Genuinely the worst post office in all of Melbourne. There is only ever one staff member working so there is always a line. He is rude, abrupt and consistently rushes everyone through. The place is also always a mess, parcels everywhere and dust on everything. Go elsewhere if you have the choice.

  • Toni Gosney

I use this branch to post out all my orders for my small business and it's the quickest I've ever had parcels scanned and processed through in my life and they are careful with the parcels aswell which is fantastic. Not a single bad word to say about this branch and those who run it …

  • Lachlan Elmore

With a doubt the worst LPO I've ever been too. The 2 elderly staff members are a rude, slow and incompetent. This is a very busy area, and the community deserve a better PO. I now use Rathdown street and Clifton Hill where possible, if only I could have my parcels handled there too.

  • Claire Brien

I’ve had a really good experience here. The family business is great and they always crack jokes and make me laugh. I’m often running late to get my parcels and they are so understanding and friendly about it. Have nothing bad to say about this Post Office! ❤️ …

  • Simone Putnam

I came out of this post office this week and just said “Wow!” In a world of general gross inefficiency this place was like an oasis in a desert. The young gentleman behind the counter could not have been more pleasant or efficient. A truly wonderful experience!

  • Amy Lees

Consistently chaos, dust everywhere, consistent line ups as only ever one staff member. Always told I should attend not on weekends, not after school hours. Would definitely go elsewhere if my parcels didn't end up there. It's surely not that hard to do better.

  • Megan McGrath

Jimmy does a great job of running a VERY busy post office. However it is just him working most days. So you will need to be patient. Many of the delays are not his fault. I would suggest going early to avoid lunchtime rush etc.

  • Nadiia Rebrova

I love coming here, Jimmy is the most efficient and helpful, remembers your name and always knows the cheapest way to send things! Sadly, we’re moving to Princes Hill but would come to say hello when in the area!

  • Vee Tom

highly efficient no fuss post office. usually not too busy. Jimmy is hands down the best person to deal with at a post office. very skilled, friendly and gives great/logical recommendations

  • Sarah B

Love this post office! Jimmy is incredibly helpful and nice. He really goes out of his way to help you as much as he can and is so efficient and knowledgeable.

  • Brooke Hutchinson

It mightn't be the most 'flash-looking' PO around but my goodness is the customer service brilliant! So SO good & personal! Lovely place to post! …

  • Anna Michael Molan Fogarty

Efficient, highly knowledgeable, and often entertaining. Every visit to the Post Office is an experience to be savoured. Thank you Jimmy!
