This place is amazing! Wish I had known about it sooner! I'm having to clear out a bunch of books my elderly mom has hoarded over the years, and had been donating them to thrift stores & libraries. This week I had a car entirely filled with books and the library was closed, so I wanted to find a way to offload them. Someone told me about BookOff. They'll only evaluate up to 5 boxes of books per day, per person, and you need a photo ID to sell. The process is great though. They give you a receipt, and will call/text you when they've had a chance to evaluate. They give you a cash offer, and if you like it, you're all set! Over the past two days I've gotten over $200 from selling books to them! If only I had known sooner! They also buy/sell dvds, blu ray, video games, collectibles, vinyl records, etc. Really cool shop!

Going to talk about selling and buying from book off. So buying is pretty cool, they have quite a variety of books, as well as figures. You will usually not find any brand new English manga but you will find still wrapped Japanese ones. They have a very wide variety of Japanese books. Now selling: If you are looking to make money you are better off selling it off yourself. But if you just want to get rid of books and get some quick cash then this is the place to go. For reference they look about 40 books and gave me 23$ for all of them. Each book was probably around 10$. Personally haven't touched them in years and they needed to be gone. But if you wanna make actually money selling them online may be your best choice. I honestly expected to get a lot more money but it is what it is.

As a book, film, music lover/collector from North Carolina, I made sure a stop at Bookoff was a priority while vacationing in San Diego this month. I had never been in a Bookoff before, and wow - I am so impressed! They have an incredible, wide selection of items and everything arranged so neatly. I was able to find some treasures from my wish list as well as discover other items I thought I'd like. Spent 5 hours shopping there that day and enjoyed it so much that I returned the following week, shopped for another 5 hours, and found even more treasures. I wish we had a store like this near my home. The next time I'm in San Diego, I will definitely be returning!

This review is mainly over their video game selection opposed to the other media and collectibles in their store, pretty big selection but the prices don't make sense. A used game that had recently came out for the same price or even more at $100 when you could buy a brand new copy for way less? A lot of the games that sit on their shelf need to be reprice evaluated as some copies have different and outdated prices. If you're looking for used games this is your place but expect to pay a pretty penny if not more than if you were to buy it digitally or on eBay/Amazon.

This place is awesome. You can sell your used dvd, books, games, consoles…so many things. They get it done quickly too. I’ve also come here to buy books and dvd. They have a vast selection and are always replenishing. The used PlayStation games I’ve bought have had zero issues. No scratches or anything. If you’re into anime and manga, then this is also the spot for you. They have English versions and other languages for their books/discs. They even have collectible cards. Honestly, this place is like a little gem in San Diego

Great place to find all sorts of books, but primarily Japan oriented books. They buy games, too. Their electronics section is a mix of PCs, consoles and games. They also have official collectibles and pop culture merch all around the store. The selection is great and it's very well stocked. The prices are definitely higher than average, but you get the guarantee of it being legitimate products and not counterfeits. I personally enjoyed looking at the games, but you had all sorts of customers walking up and down the shelves.

Kawaiii desuuuu. One of a kind reseller store (originating from Japan) with books, videos games, movies, action figures, electronics and other misc. The biggest draw has to be the action figures, they have everything neatly displayed and this typically draws people in, including me. My biggest gripe is that some of these items seem overpriced. I believe they go off of ebay prices, but sometimes you'll see prices be higher than what they retail for... Make sure to do your research before buying something

Do NOT buy model kits, figures/statues or any electronics here. This place is highway robbery. It never fails to dumbfound me seeing the posted prices here. Model kits are marked up 300-500% of what other local stores sell them for. Consoles and handhelds are 300% of what gamestop sells used ones for. Whats worse is im very sure the staff KNOWS they are overpricing things, but they rely on their local cultural regulars not going anywhere else, so they get away with these insane business practices.

This place used to be a second hand bookstore. Since COVID it's devolved into a collector store with more emphasis on rare out of production books or figure or games. I miss the days when you could buy a volume of used manga for 4 or 6 dollars and resell it for a couple bucks and buy new volumes. Now everything is 8.99 for a used volume of manga you can find new at target for 10$. I do not like the direction the store is heading. Bring back the 2nd hand store I always loved.

  • jason wolfe

I called them about a week ago. I talked to a person who told me that I don't need an appointment just bring down what I have. Prices vary depending on title, interest, etc. That all made sense. When I arrived with a heavy box of hardback books the young man behind the counter informed that they only take books with bar codes. None of mine did. I wish the guy on the phone could have told me which books are accepted before driving over. Need better communication.

If you're looking to make a dream blunt rotation with Funko pops this is definitely the place to go. For me though personally I was there for the PlayStation games and the selection is insane. If you are looking for PlayStation 3 games or PlayStation 4 games or just video games in general that are modernish you're going to find an amazing selection here. They also a few books but I don't really read books so books are cool and all but yeah there's books there.

  • Grisey RiBa

It's definitely more of a hobby nerdy place if you like books, movies and video games They also have some collectibles, comic books and electronics! And a section of $1 books :) Everything is organize alphabetically which makes it easier to find your treasure. You can find your childhood videogames! We absolutely love this place, we live about 40 miles away and we come at least once a month.

  • Ryan

A huge selection of anything you could want related to anime, manga, used books, DVDs, collectibles, CDs, or even old video games! I was really surprised by how much they could pack into the store. It just seemed like the content just kept going. The staff was really nice and helping me find exactly what I was looking for, and I will definitely be going back soon to buy more things!

  • Dominic G

Amazing comic/book store. Lots of collectibles, video games and consoles, music, books, manga, comics, magazines, and more. Highly recommend visiting just for the experience at least once if you are into anime/manga or retro videogames. Notably, they had games for the PSP here, which are hard to find usually. They also had games for some retro consoles, so take a look!

  • Gina

It's always a great time coming to BOOKOFF with everything that they have to offer. From books, to movies to rare collectibles; I always come out with something. Only issues I have is that some of the pricing is so expensive sometimes and when you try to sell them items, they really low ball you. I guess that's just part of the business?

  • FEAR_ Sanchez

This is a awesome place, they have toys, video games, books, CD's, they have a lot if fun stuff, the people there are so cool and friendly. Really appreciate everyone's support. Prices are really good. You can find a lot of good stuff, you can spend a lot of time there just looking at stuff. A+++++ store, it's a must visit store.

  • Annie Chanthavysouk (Chanthavysouk)

Love this place as it's more than just books. There's DVDs CD, collectables such as bobblehead, anime characters, some star wars stuff. There were games stuff, laptops, cameras and many more. Lots of different genre books and in foreign languages as well. There's also a huge selection of $1 books too. Definitely come check it out

  • Hungry AsianBoy

Great place to find movies and TV shows for very affordable prices. You can also sell your stuff but I would not recommend it because they would buy it for dirt cheap since they need to make profit. Highly recommended if you are looking for Japanese and Korean Pop culture toys and literature. I could spend the whole day here.

  • Eazy “Eazy” Castle

This place has 100's of choices of books and media, very well organized and clean. Plenty of staff to help you in your search but to be honest you can really get lost in all off the different book and media options they have. From Anime to History, video games to funko pops Bookoff is a wonderful and economical option.

  • Efrain F.

They have a big selection of manga, anime figures, cameras, vintage video games, funko pops, books, CDs, DVDs, blue rays, records, and more. This is a pre-owned store but everything is tested to work so I’ve never had a problem with anything from here. You can also trade in everything mentioned above for cash.

  • Rachael Pender

This place is AWESOME! They have a huge selection of movies, games, and books, all at great prices! I even found my favorite show on dvd in perfect condition for $30 for the whole collection! The employees were very helpful and friendly, and the store had lively music. I will most certainly be visiting again!

  • MrAwesome

This place is really cool. Wall to wall books, DVDs, games, toys and electronics all second hand in both English and in Japanese. Lots of Anime. They also buy your used books and games. I honestly think they could use a bigger retail space with their huge inventory. Fun place to browse.

  • Corrine P

Not bad but not great. There are some very cool items in the store but they are priced a bit high. The store itself is very cramped and doesn't allow for much time to peruse the selection. I took my 13 year old daughter here looking for mangas and she was unimpressed with the selection.

  • Sehvehn

Lots and lots of books, dvd's, an isle for 3DS and DS. Old school games in a glass case. Really easy to browse through the items. Set up like a library with isles of bookshelves filled with all sorts of media. Love going here to find lost media. 10/10 must visit at least once a month

  • Jose Trias

If you are still collecting CD's, then this is your place. Not only CDs, if you're into rare anime stuff, books, funko pops, collectibles, don't hesitate to visit this place. Lastly, if you have these collectible items that you don't need anymore, then you can sell it to them.

  • Nate

This place is awesome!! Great prices and a wide range of books. Lots of deals for $1 to $2.50 and up. They also have video games and a lot of dvds. Will deff be back, by far one of my fave book stores Ive been to in a while and will be going back for all my used book needs

  • Alexander Klee

Fun Thrift Store full of books, Electronics, movies and such for any nerd or gamer. Wide selection of action figures and stands for different franchises. Prices are a little high for the electronics. Some of the used items are priced higher than the new ones themselves

  • Rod Ressell

A nice well-organized store, with loads of media and products spanning multiple genres and interest. I think a better name for the store would be Impulse, because your going to find something, buy it, and take it home, regardless if it's a few bucks cheaper online.

  • Elle Sison

Just love it. Lol. I went here because the person I was with is a gamer and collector and even if I wasn't the same I was just excited to see everything. Haha especially the CDs and different types of games. For me I just find the place really entertaining. …

  • Jer king

  • Joe Hickerson

Highly disappointed in my visit today. Spent over an hour and a half waiting for my sell order to processed only for it to voided as soon as I got back to the counter. Also no priority is given to customers who are both selling and buying

  • abookish_scholar

  • Patricio Guzman

The BEST place for those who love manga, anime, video games and figurines. Only thing capping it at 4/5 are the ridiculous prices. You won't find any good deals 99% of the time unlike other random used items stores.

Amazing used Videogame selection. Tons of books. Used musical instruments and electronics like laptops and audio equipment available. A unique gem that San Diego is lucky to have.

  • Daniel Kellogg

Should be called rip-off. Price for a 8 year old game reference book is 40 cents cheaper then a brand new book. Which by the way you can get at Amazon for sub 30 with delivery.
