Update: I’m sure the team is putting a lot of work in creating this magical place but sadly, this time, we left disappointed. It was our 6th visit to Backyard cinema, we have seen 5 winter themes and 1 summer one overall. This time we went for the winter theme (strangely only one was offered compared to the usual 2). The venue has moved and entirely new one was built from scratch. A lot of thought went into the bar area which is well executed but the cinema experience was just not what we experienced before. The story was short and performed by one actor only, the decor was limited. The train was well executed but the experience reminded me of a summer theme with a plane that I didn’t like so much. The corridor connecting the train and the lights felt cheap and poorly executed (compare that to an ice corridor of last year which you got to by crawling through a magically appearing opening in the fireplace). The mirror room with lights reminded me of the Yayoi Kusama exhibition we seen in tate modern so didn’t see new too me and didn’t have the “wow” factor (last year we entered a winter forest like room with actual waterfall - a wow factor to me). The actual cinema was very cool though, filled with mist, snow and snowy christmas trees. Unfortunately it was unbearably hot throughout the movie and trust me, I hate cold. The choices in the small bar were limited too. Perhaps it’s due to the venue change, opening of the new cinema in manchester, or other reason, but this was by far our worst experience ever. So much, I’m not sure we will return next year. My previous 5/5 review: Where do I start? This place is an absolute gem! We have visited it for the first time and immediately fell in love. The passion and attention to detail makes visiting this place well worth the commute. We visit it whenever the theme changes or at least once a year for Christmas. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the winter theme was changed yet again this year even though the name stayed the same. You can see that people creating this place are full of passion. We have shown this place to so many people, and everyone is always amazed. It’s a bit of a shame that the prices have risen almost 80% since we have visited this place two years ago. Still definitely worth a visit although now quite expensive.

A good experience but not amazing. I felt it was a bit gimmicky - especially the whole entry experience with the actors, which is (thankfully) over within 2 minutes. That being said, I will undoubtedly return for their summer screenings. I really recommend arriving at doors open if you want good and central seats - it is first come, first served. Seats are reserved using the staff’s wipe-boards although there did appear to be confusion / instances of double booking the same bean bags. The food yard was pretty good, we had Motherclucker (fried chicken) and Honest Burgers. Queues weren’t terrible and the food was good. I was expecting perhaps another food stall, maybe something Asian orientated. They also have pizzas inside (but not wood fired ovens). Good selection of drinks and bar snacks - popcorn and sweets. Didn’t get to try their potion-like cocktails but they looked amazing. The screen itself was high quality and the audio was fine. The seats (premium have head rests) are super comfy and you can really chill out to a movie. We saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. During the film people do get up an awful lot but that’s to be understood when people are wanting drinks on date nights etc. Your usual cinema etiquette certainly doesn’t apply here, given it’s more of a night out than pure movie watching. The venue is a 5-10 min walk from Wandsworth Town station, with 15 min trains from Waterloo. 4/5 stars overall Bottom line: would return in the future.

An incredible experience and a must-go if thinking about it. The concept is ace and from the get-go to have a variety of food and drink, to set you right in the mood. It's ideal with everyone, groups of friends, couples, and you name it - and a mix of all sorts of people, which is brilliant. It's a sense of a theatre theme, with a twist of modern delightfulness. We decided to head towards the seating area, but before, without spoiling it too much, an entrance which gets you right into the mood. We saw Dirty Dancing because you know it's a CLASSIC and the tunes are just outrageously cheesy (plus what really makes it ) It's just a short walk from Wandsworth Town train station and allows people to nose around before, as it's a beautiful area of the south side of the themes to visit as it is, like an area. It's one of those that you don't fully appreciate until it's finished, but that's not mainly a bad thing. Staff and the people involved all seemed relaxed and helpful, which again is a plus for people visiting. Fascinating to go and visit the other locations they set out/plans. We will be keeping those peeled! Book in advance and if you decide to go, give yourself plenty of time to soak it in. New videos to come, which is a first for us. No doubt it's A***** See you again soon! LDT x

I found out about this through some adverts online, and I was curious to give it a shot as I was impressed by all the positive reviews. Booking and collecting tickets was very easy, and when we arrived at the location it was lively. The open-for-all area is very cozy and the studio bar is heart-warming, with great staff and selection of spirits to pick from. I went to the LA Nights show, which personally was okay but I think the disengagement from most of the audience made it a lesser experience. The dancers were doing a great job to give us a good show and always had a smile on. The cinema hall is even better irl, we were sat on the last row and we still had an amazing view. The seats are great, allowing to lay low and if no one is there, even lay on the side. There was a lovely girl at the bar who served me and my friends with lots of enthusiasm; she was black with long locs :) very lovely, props to her. The margarita I got from the studio bar was alright, while the alcoholic slushie was very good :), plus I got to keep it. The audio was a bit hard to understand, but adjusted quickly to it. But overall, so much fun!!! TL;DR: have to give it a try at least once, book the back seats and enjoy some slushie and popcorn with friends for a great night.

What an AMAZING experience! I had such a great time. It is worth every penny. I went to the Miami Beach experience, and it couldn't have been more fun! The immersive experience at the beginning with the actors at the "Miami Beach Hotel" was really great. The bar next to the cinema room was excellent too, with the energetic music and the range of delicious snacks to buy like ice cream, pop corn, slushies, cocktails, mocktails etc. The actual cinema room was sooo nice, with the sand and beach decor photo opportunities. Definitely come expecting to take great photos! :) The cushioned chairs were sooo comfortable to sit on throughout the movie, and the screen was perfectly positioned. I sat on the far left hand side as that was one of the only tickets left, and I thought I would have trouble viewing the screen but I didn't at all. The hot food in the courtyard outside was great. There's Honest Burgers, a fried chicken place, a pizza place and a bar. I had Honest Burgers and it was delicious. I would totally recommend Backyard Cinema. I am looking to come back to try the LA Nights experience, and I definitely want to try to winter experience too. Excellent experience, thank you Backyard Cinema! :)

We saw a movie at LA night's Positive; the pre show is fantastic, really great attention to detail and so much fun.. brilliant for photo opps! Preferred the pre show here to Miami beach. Food we had was delicious, salted caramel ice cream was absolutely phenomenal! Negative; we came early as suggested to enjoy food before. However we weren't aware you can't take food into the cinema. Due to our pizza taking ages to cook we then had a rushed time trying to eat it before the movie started. Can't understand why you couldn't take it in a box to enjoy through the movie? ‍♀️ Ice cream may have been delicious but £12 for 2 small tubs I should think so! That's double what you pay in a west end theatre As said in many other reviews, one member of staff serving in the bar inside the cinema is not enough. Makes for very slow service and to add to that he wasn't particularly friendly. Probably fed up due to working alone and the huge queues.... Last moan, nobody is in the cinema to stop people on their phones etc. I had 4 teenagers next to me who scrolled their socials the whole time and it ruined the film for me. I'd assume they would be asked to put phones away in a different cinema.

Firstly didn’t realise the traffic around the area is so bad around the time we booked! Eventually got their socked in rain to see that we were stuck in a full row of people with no distance or space to put your things. We booked to watch home alone at Toxy. My fault for not not checking the pictures before as I normally do. I assumed it was going to be a similar theme as their other cinema. Paid £26 each for middle tickets. Seats were uncomfortable, they are worse then cineworld or a normal chair, I get it then again it is like theatre type so fair but it makes me feel like I am in a wedding. If they put in as much effort inside then at the entrance it would be nice. I would have rather watched home alone at home instead of wasting my time so I left early 15mins into movie as the view was restricted to due to tall people infront of me as no room to even put things/stretch your legs, couldn’t imagine staying there for the whole movie. The Christmas carols were not bad at the start and they were good. General waste of time and money. Don’t even want to book the other places after this experience as I wouldn’t know until I get in.

Finally went for the first time today with my partner, and I must say we were quite disappointed! No disrespect to the team involved, as we can definitely see the hard work that they put in - It’s impressive to see some of the things they have done, but for the price we paid, we don’t think it was worth it at all. The ‘train ride’ had some cool lighting, but the performance was quick and not that good. After the train we walked for a few seconds down a very cool corridor with mirrors and lights, and then the beautiful winter themed cinema. As it’s halloween season, we felt a lack of the decor to put us in the mood for the movie. I’ve seen some pictures of the Backyard Cinema, including the advertised ones and it was not what I expected. It let us down when we were there. I’m aware Backyard Cinema often changes their theme etc, and I also read some great reviews, I’ll be definitely willing to try it again in the future when it’s all changed. But this time the money wasn’t worth it.

My wife booked us a date night out at the backyard cinemas. I'll be honest, I was skeptical about the whole thing but, wow, I really enjoyed it ! We arrived early and grabbed food from the Honest Burger Food truck, there was many other options as well. Had a great supper in an outdoor Christmas themed pub area. We then grabbed out tickets and went through a whole expierence before arriving in the cinema area. The way they layout the night and expierence is very unique . The cinema area was laid back and casual and you immediately felt like you were just over at some friends house. We had some awesome drinks and snacks from the bar in the cinema and then enjoyed our favourite Christmas movie "The Holiday". I would highly reccomend the backyard cinema. It's a great date night or night out with friends and family !!!

  • Luciana D

I loved seeing The Holiday at Backyard Cinema! Attendees enter a few at a time through a wardrobe with a door man. The wardrobe leads you through a wooded tunnel donned with stringed lights and opens into a a whimsical cinema filled comfortable couches, blankets at each seat, and a decorated consession stand with drinks and snacks. The tent was pleasantly heated, although it wasn't communicated and so many attendees wore layers expecting to be freezing. The staff inside were very organized and systematic with seating guests. Tickets are not cheap, but are appropriately priced considering how unique this experience is. I told all of my friends about this experience and highly recommend others to try this! Book in advance because most of the dates sell out in November!

  • Kirsten

The staff Are exceptional , Vanessa is A great person, she went the extra mile to ensure we had a supersonic time!!! the music , atmosphere and the whole packaged experience was fantastic..its is definitely worth a visit. Definitely a excellent party idea .. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We had amazing time every visit, We came 6 consecutive weekends. It was the best way to spend our weekends. We also had a fantastic time at L.A nights ..what an adventure, so realistic its brilliant well done guys!! Keep up the fantastic work... Staff are incredible and friendly.. The miami beach hotel staff were our favourite, the front house manner was brilliant , their humour was excellent, 5 stars for Gwendoline & Orto

I have been seeing ads online about Backyard Cinema and this time, we have finally had the chance to visit the place. The staff welcomed us warmly after braving the freezing weather outside. We got there early to explore their wonderfully decorated interiors in the food hall. Had some drinks prior to the movie and oh my the burgers smelled very nice but we were already stuffed to eat more. When it was time to get inside the cinema, it was so beautiful! Everything was well thought of! The theme was on point! The bean bags were sooo comfy! The screen was large and clear! It was such a wonderful experience! I love it! A must to visit with your loved ones and friends!

Edit November 2022 The new venue is a big step down compared to the previous experiences. Hopping it is just because they had to change the venue and going forward the story will go back to the previous very high standard Original Amazing place visit it almost every time they change scenery since 2019. The experience is always memorable and unique. Drinks aren't great but they let you keep the glass and you can start your own collection. 2 things to improve sound quality it is not really the best setup and if they could add fresh popcorn as right now they only sell packaged cold popcorn

  • dutchvette

10/10 experience The enthusiasm of the crew is phenomenal. We went to Miami and the pre-show was great. Though I think the one of California might be better. I don't have regrets though. I loved the vibe, music was great as well before the movie started. Movie itself was great quality too. The sacks in which you sit are alright, obviously not as good as normal cinema seats. In my opinion: 10/10 Vibe 8/10 food and drinks ('cocktails' and popcorn) 6/10 seat I think choosing the right movie is the most important part (obviously). We went to Grease, which is just a great classic.

  • Anna Miller

A little over hyped, but the experience was nice for a Saturday evening. The “experience” room portion felt a bit rushed, but the staff were super committed to the silliness and fun. Food options were limited to chicken burgers and pizza, but there were vegetarian options at both offerings. Cocktails were standard price for London, and were on theme to the holidays. The facility was really warm and cozy , and the seating was comfy. Overall, a cute date night, would likely do another evening for a movie specific theme.

  • Samanta Roxy

Beautiful and cozy place! Well prepared for the Xmas time so you can enjoy the vibe and feel the festive spirit! Cinema is build from cozy and extremely comfortable sofas so you just need to relax, there is small bar inside the cinema room so in emergency of thirsty or snack you are safe there without need to go out and loose part of the movie. Come earlier to enjoy the full venue and grab something to eat on a fancy foodcourt. All designed well, good spot to catch up with friends!

  • Maryam Almomen

The beanbags were comfortable! And the place before entering is sublime! There’s also a bar there where you can have some food before entering the cinema—since you can’t take the food inside. We definitely enjoyed our time here, however it would have been great if they provided actual air popped popcorn instead of packaged popcorn, as it made the experience less cinema like, other than that I would recommend experiencing this at least once if you’re in London!

  • Yasir

We went during the Xmas period, Snow Kingdom to watch Die Hard. It was a really good experience and the staff are so enthusiastic. The experience is really something I would recommend, it’s a must go, especially for the seasonal periods!!! So we went again during summer, during Miami Beach and I must say it was amazing. The audience was small but the staff still put in maximum effort! We enjoyed our time in the scenery and watching the movie

  • Neet Nutrition

Took my 6yp to watch Sonic 2. What an experience! Checking in via the 1st class airport lounge. Then "boarding" the plane and getting to LA. The children and adults alike, all loved it. The food after the show was limited to 2 places; 1 empanada and pannini stand and 1 for pizza. Both provided quality and tasty food so everyone was able to eat. I recommend the meat empanada. Delicious. And the pizza is a thin base stone baked option.

  • Gemma B

Wow, wow, wow, what a mind blowing experience for coming out of lockdown. Went on the weekend at 12 with my son to watch a kids movie. Enjoyed the theatre of it all. Bars and food before hand also.. Cinema experience was just beyond fun. Sand and beanbags with disco lights and entertainment before the show started. Shame I can’t add videos on here ;) If helpful please like my photo. X

  • Emma Cater

So much fun! Wasn't expecting the actors at the beginning but it was very magical! Really got us into the Christmas spirit! We saw love actually, could see clearly, seats were super comfy and drinks were reasonably priced for a London attraction (£23 for a bottle of wine) Would definitely go back, would be ace during the day for kids too if they like a movie day!

  • James Thornton

Amazing, such an awesome experience!! Seating was comfy and seperated for Covid. Huge courtyard area to enjoy before the movie with a massive bar. There was a burger bar and a fried chicken shack, although chicken was closed. Staff are super friendly. Overall really enjoyed the experience, which it definitely is, by far the best cinema experience I've been to.

  • kirti kiran

Had an amazing night with friends watching movie in the Miami Beach themed cinema. I think the whole experience was 10/10 and i loved the pre show experience, how they welcomed us with some fun stories and crew danced before the movie started. Bean bags and sand filled place was actually giving it a beach vibe. Amazing London cinema experience. Must try

  • Cécile

Absolutely amazing. The decor is incredible. The staff was so enthusiastic and entertaining (maybe less the lady at the snack bar…). The screen wasn’t of amazing quality but it’s still great experience. Highly recommend. The kids loved it, and so did we! Ps: loved the story of how it started, prior to the movie. It was a nice touch!

  • Taya Amber

To compare with the last year, it wasn’t so good. Unfortunately kids are very disappointed, didn’t have the same experience as they did last Christmas. Today staff was very unorganised (untrained), management in food area could be more supportive and more professional. We are hoping that next year the service would be much better.

  • Estelle Cheriton

Love this place, first time visit. Good laugh, the staff was all very friendly and very helpful, one lady that worked behind the bar was so nice and friendly and had time chatting to us while working, lovely lady. Went back to the backyard cinema last night to see batman. Again the staff was very friendly and helpful. Great place.

  • Emma Almond

Really fun night out with friends and family. It wasn't very busy because it was the last night of being open but the atmosphere was still good. My only complaint was the seat allocation meant everyone was allocated the same area meaning our row was full which wasn't necessary when the cinema was practically empty

  • Rob Dezert

Perfect for dates, unique atmosphere and experience, comfortable beyond imagination with special bean bag seats, we had sand too as it was a beach theme. The staff are the friendliest I have ever had the pleasure to meet, food is great and cocktails were a bit sweet but cool. A MUST go to place.

  • Christine Osazuwa

Such a fun experience. If you live North of the river, it takes some effort to get there but well worth the journey. The food, drink & snack options are exceptional and the overall experience always feels like they really put alot of effort into making it unique and special. Highly recommend.

  • Julia Breg

Absolutely brilliant and fun day out. We did L.A. Nights and it was fantastic. Special shout out to absolutely everyone working there from the lady at the box office to the incredible flight attendants who really made this whole experience amazing. We will be back for Miami Beach very soon.

  • Craig Duncan

Amazing place. Great atmosphere. Seats are very comfy you could fall asleep very easily. Beers good aswell as the hotel chocolate hot chocolate. There isn't a bad seat int eh house and you get lost in the film and forget there loads of people all watching it aswell. Definitely recommend

  • Fabrizio Bergamo

I love the concept and it was really fun, however compared to last year visit it was less impressive. Especially the first part of the experience before the start of the movie. It's now too expensive for what you get. Also, my goto drink choice "love potion", was removed from the menu

  • Shame A Name

Really nice experience, not enough leg room between bean bags, food and drinks a bit expensive, stereo sound only - not surround system, clean toilets, cosy feel, child friendly, helpful and friendly staff, fantastic decor, organised. Definitely worth a visit at least once.

  • monika oanea

It’s absolutely amazing and unique experience ! Summer is like a beach holiday , winter is like Narnia :) it’s good for adults and kids as well , for firs date for birthdays gift or just to have fun with family or friends! I’ve been twice and I will go more time :)

  • kurvz kid

Amazing experience, the themed screens are awesome and well thought out. Will definitely go again and highly recommend. The whole team make the experience so fun and lively, very welcoming and attentive. This is the way you want to watch a film!

We have been coming to the Backyard Cinema for years. Every time, we are blown away by the effort and creativity that goes into every set designed. In the Summer this year, we ran into some problems with our train from Birmingham, we travel

Great cinema, the staff is very participative and the experience was great (other than being extremely hot ). It’s such a shame that their will need to move to another location, but I guess the new location will still also be great!

No air con. For context it’s 20•c now and it’s like a sauna in the screen room not comfortable at all! I’m currently sitting here doing the review waiting for this movie to end. If you want to buy snacks / drinks it’s a long route from

I took my son here to watch Paddington! The experience from the Box office right through to the film was an amazing experience. Staff emanated the vibes and the excitement that we lived during our time at the Miami beach experience.

My first time to a themed cinema! I found it very creative and cool wich is literally taking you to a diferent time or place... roles, welcoming and extremely funny! Definetly you left your real world at the door... fantastic time!

  • Rachel Mercer

Fun to do as a one off. Easy to find from the train station. A little pricey to do again. But loved the outdoor section and cinema for a sneaky afternoon drink. Having freight island round the corner is great for a follow up bar

Excellent venue. Saw a film in the Miami Beach setting then drinks, food and drag to see out the night (which was free). Great atmosphere in the evening - the crowd was very lively and loads of fun had by all. Great date night!
