Brunch is simply not worth the price. The ambiance is very nice, the place is very instagramable. The waiters were kind but they were not attentive at all. One of the servers almost brought our order to another table. In general, the food is just not worth it. The avocado and toast is literally bread with sliced avocado on top for 18$+tax; there is no sauce, salt or spices. The other dishes were good, just extremely overpriced. The wait time for the food was also quite long for our table. We were ready to order at 10h15. After placing our order, the dishes only came to us at 11h15. We also had a mixup where the waiter misheard hot chocolate and brought my friend a hot toddy instead. If you're going to this restaurant for the pictures, I understand. But just know that you will have to pay a lot for average food.

Not sure if they have a wheelchair entrance. The main entrance is several stairs. Would be impossible to access with reduced mobility. Perhaps the wheelchair entrance is on the side.

I ate at Bar George during a weekend trip to Montreal for business and to visit some friends. Unfortunately, I got FOOD POISONING at this restaurant. I took a picture of my main meal to show my husband how beautiful the dish looked and after being sick 4/5 hours after eating there, the pic clearly showed uncooked chicken. When I contacted the restaurant, I was not called back and was then given the wrong email address to compile the complaint they ask me for. After speaking with the head office, I was directed to a general manager who asked me a series of questions about my experience. I provided them pictures of the uncooked meat ( I couldn’t see it at the restaurant, due to how dark it was inside), which they would not assume responsibility for , despite the clear evidence. Unfortunately, I was sick for several days, my trip was greatly affect, not to mention the difficulty I had caring for 3 young children in a hotel room while recovering from food poisoning. The head office and I were not able to come to an agreement on compensation ( it was an expensive trip that was affected), as they would not take responsibility for their meat being under cooked. In the end, they had a lot of excuses and answers to why this was not possible, even though I provided them with a clear picture that determined otherwise. * Beware if you eat there, maybe use your phone light to make sure the meat is cooked throughly.

We have visited Bar George a number of times for various meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner)...but this review is based on my most recent breakfast visit in Nov 2023. Located in the Le Munt Stephen Hotel, the décor of Bar George is outstanding and otherworldly...directly cut away from late 19th century interior design. The main stair case in the entrance hall is truly a site to see...and Bar George's interior is all in the same matching style. There are three main rooms (during the summer there is also an outdoor terrace)...one room with ample windows is the U-shaped bar, the second room is within the building (no windows) but richly appointed in the similar décor with a third room adjoining the main dining room to handle overflow. For our meal we ordered Viennoiserie Basket (very good...fresh pastries and ample quantity although the scone could have been a bit more of the traditional style), Avocado Toast (was very good but missed some extra flavoring like olive oil or chili pepper), Fruit Plate (good but a bit small for the price) and the Full English Breakfast (very good). Overall the service was very efficient, effective and friendly with the meal being served promptly and as ordered. Definitely worth a visit...recommended as a date night location. Very charming! Enjoy!

The staff was very friendly and attentive. The architecture and decor are amazing. Sadly these are the only redeeming qualities. I ordered the Black Pudding Benedict and was disappointed. This is a benedict with an identity crisis that thinks it's a soup: The eggs are immersed in a tasty (though overpowering) broth, but they sit under a veritable mountain of hollandaise. Due to this being a "soup" you cannot escape the hollandaise - it will get mixed in the broth. As soon as you open the eggs, the yolk will ooze into the hollandaise infested broth, and now you're just consuming hollandaise yolk broth with some egg white chunks. To further disappoint, the eggs are not sitting on English muffins as the custom goes. No, you're stuck eating hollandaise broth with egg white chunks. The bar itself if very loud with the sound of patrons, to the point I could barely process the music. Not sure what can be done about cursed acoustics, but the bar is also very dark. Please, make the space a notch brighter.

The atmosphere is one of the main reasons to come visit. It is such a cool and unique experience. Our drinks were amazing and we ordered a side of chips (fries). Everything we ordered was great. Only reason I am leaving 4 stars is because the manager made it awkward. We walked in and told the hostess there were only two of us. We got seated at a coffee table for a seating of 4. This was the only available spot, so we thought that's why they gave it to us. We were seated and having our drinks when the manager asked if we were waiting for anyone else. We said no, it's only us two. He then proceeded to tell us that this table is for 3 or more. I was like "Ok? Your team sat us down in this spot." He then continued to repeat himself that his is for 3 or more. We were already there for 30 minutes with our drinks and chips. He said that he will allow us to sit there this time. Super awkward, but atmosphere, drinks and food were great.

The host was racist…First time I came to this place I had an absolutely amazing time, but that was when I came with my husband who happens to be white. Second time(a month ago) I came alone I was denied entry and told there was a private party(there actually was one). I stood aside and watched them let all the white people in while some 2 other black people were given the same story as I was. When I asked why the host let other people who didn’t go to the back where the party was, I was told those were regulars unlike me. Shortly after I was offered a spot at the bar but never an apology. It’s unfortunate that if I want to come back to this lovely place I need to be in the company of a white person. The bartender was as amazing as he was on my first visit and got my 5 star rating (which I now changed) but I’m not comfortable coming back just yet, I hope they fix that problem. Now I go to Marcus instead, they won’t give you a problem for being black.

This place is as beautiful as it has ever been. We went for dinner tonight to celebrate my husband's birthday. The staff is incredible, but the food was okay. I expected better from a place like this. The mushroom soup was tasty, but it was quite thick. Our main meal was the grilled chicken with Dauphinoise potatoes. The food was a little bland. I ask for salt and pepper to add flavor. We didn't finish our dish. It was a very busy night, so our server was himself quite busy. Asking for the salt or another drink took time. We decided not to have desserts, paid the bill, and left.

I recently visited Bar George in Montreal for a late-night outing. Initially, I intended to have dinner, but unfortunately, the kitchen was closed by the time I arrived. However, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I got the opportunity to sample their drinks instead. Despite the fact that there were empty seats, I had to wait in line for about 20 minutes to get a seat at 1am, which was a bit of a letdown. However, once I was seated, I was quite impressed by the atmosphere. The interior is beautifully designed, giving off a high-class vibe that I thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, even though my visit didn't go as initially planned, I had a good time at Bar George. The ambiance and the quality of the drinks made up for the initial hiccup. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a classy spot to unwind in Montreal.

Mahachi is very fresh, and the taste is delicious. The sour sauce is paired with black truffle sauce and nuts, which is very appetizing as a front meal. Wellington beef, the taste is okay, and the mushrooms wrapped in the beef are also well done, but the sauce is too salty, even if it is paired with jam and Balsamic vinegar, it can't neutralize it, without salty, the taste is delicious. The downside is that there is no filet mignon, and the outside of the mushroom puree is not wrapped with ham slices and then wrapped with mille-feuille. It cannot be regarded as a qualified Wellington beef. The side dish is Oyster mushroom, which is very fragrant and delicious. The dessert is well done, the taste is sweet, but the crispy chips made of mango juice are slightly sour, and they are just right after mixing. The taste is well matched, and it is hard work.

I would say that my recent experience at Bar George in Montreal was quite disappointing. Firstly, the long wait time was incredibly frustrating, and it was particularly disappointing after hearing great things about the restaurant. The service was also quite slow and lacklustre, which only added to the frustration. The food, unfortunately, did not live up to expectations either. While the prices were on the high side, I was willing to pay more for high-quality and delicious food. However, the dishes I ordered were quite ordinary, with not much creativity or effort put into them. Furthermore, the taste of the food wasn't as good as I had expected. Overall, I have to say that I did not enjoy my experience at Bar George and do not recommend it, particularly for those who are looking for a high-quality dining experience.

The place itself is a historical building with lovely carved wood, the dim setting and combinations of wood makes it a perfect dining space. I appreciate the staff allowing us to explore the second floor of the building! We came during lunchtime. We ordered the hamburgers, they are so good! The buttery brioche bun topped with an amazing smokey caramelized onion and well seasoned beef patty perfectly encapsulated the combination of sweet and salty. The density of the burger felt perfectly balanced all throughout, although I believe the mayonnaise sauce served with the fries was too dense and did not compliment the lightness of the burger. Unfortunately I could not take a picture of the burger as the lighting present with my phone was too bad. The staff were very kind and helpful.

(Leaving a review as a server myself and I was with a restaurant manager) The service was bad. Our waiter just took our order and took our payment but he was nowhere in between. He did not check whether our entrée is all good nor our main meal. He also forgot our drinks and it was the hostess/aide-serveuse who continued to fill our water and also brought our drinks to us. The food was average (we got the Mushroom Forestière and the George’s Full Breakfast) although the Hamachi Crudo was good. In general, for a price point of 28-34$ you expect to receive a good service and they give you an option of minimum 18% for tipping which is not worth it. I hope they would also put some music for the ambiance. I appreciate the aide-serveuse though for making sure that we are hydrated. The place looks nice.

The starters were good, but the tomahawk dish ruined our dinner. It was listed on the menu that it feeds 2 people. It came and it was beyond huge. It could prob feed 4 people. I'd be okay with the price if it was for the quality of the meat, like a prime cut or something. But i'm pretty sure it was just AAA. And when we told our server that we didn't expect it to be such a huge portion, he brushed it off saying that he'd seen one person finish it and that he could prob finish it himself. I think he could've made our night a lot better if he warned us about the portion size. I wish I had ordered the filet mignon instead. That huge hunk of steak overpowered the entire dinner, which started off very pleasantly. I also didn't think that dish was worth $230 for a triple A tomahawk, truffle oil mash and veggies. I do not recommend anyone order the tomahawk dish.

One of the fanciest bar and restaurants in Montreal downtown. We went on a Wednesday and there was a small queue for waiting. We mainly went in for the bar menu. For 4 people we ordered around 5 bar bites and it was enough. The drinks were amazing.I would definitely recommend this place just for the experience. The dining area looked pretty comfortable.I think it’s the experience of eating inside a mansion that made it super fun.We loved the Arancini and chips with Mom’s curry sauce in Bar bites. The drinks were bit strong for us but were amazing.

One of the most beautiful bars I have ever seen! Lovely ambiance The food quality is really good (we got the grilled chicken and hamburger). The service is also quite good and servers are very nice! However, we needed to wait for around 45 mins in the line to get in. It also took around 40 minutes for them to prepare and serve our food. I was a bit frustrated with all that waiting times. Specially since our order contained something that we asked to be removed at first, but they had forgotten to remove so they needed to redo the whole food, which took them another 20 minutes However, they were all really nice about it, which is why I am giving them a 4/5! I will definitely revisit!

I expected a restaurant and bar, but it's really just a bar. The woodwork is beautiful and the drinks are good. Wouldn't recommend for dinner. The service could have been better. We called ahead and they told us reservations weren't needed. We waited in line 45 minutes before getting a table at which time they said reservations were recommended. We sat 20 minutes before we could snag the waitress to get our check. The waitress brought out a plate of fries that we didn't order and the salmon plate we actually ordered took 40 minutes to come out. Only street parking and a garage not far away. $20 parking. Okay experience overall, but would not return.

Beautiful place to brunch. A former Gentleman's Club, it was stunning. The food was excellent for brunch. I had lobster Benedict and hot chocolate. The Benedict was beautiful...gorgeous. the hot chocolate...cold, even after I asked them to make it hot. The service was definitely lacking. The waiter, towards the end of the meal, ignored us and didn't ask us if we wanted water...I thought of taking my glass to where the pitchers were located to serve myself, but decided against it. Finally I waved down someone foe water... for such a beautiful place with such food...not to mention the prices, don't ignore us even though you may want us to leave.

Lordy! What a feast for the senses! The interior of this restaurant is exquisite. The woodwork, the stain glass, the grandfather clock, pure opulence! Thankfully, the food matched the decor. We each had the mushroom soup and then split the Grilled Octopus Salad and Chicken Salad. The soup was the best mushroom soup I have ever tasted, layers of complexity, smooth and fresh. The octopus was cooked to perfection, the salad was layered with texture and taste. No surprise, it's an Oliver & Bonacini Restaurant. We will be back !!

Staying in the area and found this gem. Got in without a reservation. Absolutely smashing in every way! Our server, Basile was a true professional -so friendly and attentive. My avocado on toast was delicious (and included my juice + coffee!) Husband's full English was great, black pudding was divine. It is the attention to detail that makes this place stand out (dishes, fresh flowers)...and the history in this beautiful building. The music and ambiance were spot on. So relaxing. The place is beautiful and has a really nice atmosphere. I made reservations for brunch so we were seated right away. The service was great even though there was an error in our order. The food was ok but the cappuccino was not that great otherwise everything was as expected. Ordered the waffle and duck fat potatos. The error was to have ice cream on the side, they gave with the waffle but also gave free ice cream on the side as well. Overall would go again but probably for dinner.

If you’re looking for a place to impress business connections over drinks or a date, Bar George’s atmosphere will do the trick. Really feels like spending time in gentlemen’s clubs. Prices are upscale but in line with the atmosphere and what you get. The food was not incredible, but their extensive cocktail and liquor selection compensate for it. If you don’t know it’s there you might miss it because you would never think there’s a bar in that kind of old school, legacy buildings. Definitely try it out!

What a beautiful place. The main room is gorgeous, and the bartenders etc were so nice and friendly. It wasn’t until my wife and I encountered the bar manager who told us that we couldn’t record each other in the room without paying a photographer room rental fee. My wife was in movie production and knows those fees are usually thousands of dollars. It was a baseless threat the guy issued to us and put us off the place entirely. Why he behaved in such a poor manner, in such a nice place, is gross.

We walked in with no reservations after leaving another terrible restaurant. We were in line for a while and constantly being checked on by the staff. Edna came by and I asked her what time the kitchen closed as I was starving and it was around 9pm. She confirmed 10 but couldn't guarantee we get into the bar before it closed. Within 10 minutes she came back and was able to secure us a table in the dining room. The buratta salad was delicious and the drinks were nice and strong.

One of my favourite bars in Montreal Great cocktails (I highly recommend their old fashioned for those who like their drinks on the stronger side). Delicious food, they are well known for the beef wellington. Highly recommended What I like the most is the interior decor. Sit around the bar and enjoy the old school European atmosphere. Music can be loud during live DJ performances, can be hard if we want to have a conversation

This is an absolutely amazing place in the heart of Montreal with a classic fashion and a rich history and art inside the venue. We had a brunch there and I LOVED the black pudding breakfast and I recommend everyone to try it once. It was perfectly cooked, nicely decorated, and charmly seasoned. The service was also great and we were given a very clear instruction about the place, the food and what to expect. We got served very well and at the end, we had a tour of the building which I also recommend it to anyone going there.

Loved the atmosphere. Seemed like a cocktail was the thing to do! And one of the classics recommended on the menu was the paper plane, as I'd planned to try one, I went for it. Very good! Love all the wood, and super ornate. Followed with a beer (limited selection but hats off that they serve 4 Origines!). A fun place, but the cocktail was pricey. When I arrived a bit of a wait, the dj was great, and then another dj took over also very good.

Beautiful place! The woodwork is impressive. The atmosphere is very nice. I ordered a scone to try it and it is actually a biscuit and nothing to write home about. I won’t order it again bc it’s not flaky. I then had the lobster omelette which was amazing!!! Really delicious with a hint of lemon. The kitchen had an issue which delayed the delivery of the omelette, I didn’t mind bc the vibe and walls are so pretty. I recommend this place and would return

Beautiful restaurant and bar in downtown Montreal. Separate dinner and bar areas make this a very nice restaurant. At the bar area, there is a DJ playing house music, but we couldn't see him from the dinner area. Steak and duck for the main course and mushroom soup and fritters for appetizers. All the food was well cooked and delicious. I appreciated the attentive service. On the second floor is the restroom. On the way there you can take pictures of the staircase, and the restroom was very beautiful as well. The food and experiences were great here!

A very good dining experience. Very classy decor. The food is nice and of surprisingly good portion. We had the oysters and lobster pasta and they were good. A good selection of alcoholic beverages as well. It is a fancy place with good food, so obviously it is pricey. But it is worth it. The food quality and quantity are also better than other restaurants of similar price range. I don't think they have a dress code but better dress nice to fit in the environment.

Another great experience of food and culture. Such an amazing building with superb design and art. Loved the stained glass. But be prepared to pay for this. It cost me a small fortune. Absolutely wonderful. The decor is gorgeous and the service superb. We started with the devils on horseback along with foie gras and broccoli. The flavours were complex and fresh. For mains, the beef wellington and butchers steak were cooked to perfection. Finished off with espresso martinis and a chocolate tart which was decadent and perfectly sweet. Extensive drink list as well, we got a bottle of wine but the cocktails looked amazing. Highly recommended!

A group of 15 of us had dinner there. Everyone was satisfied and had high praises of the food quality and taste. Service was great and food came quickly which was surprising—maybe weekday wasn’t busy there. The place looks like a castle from the outside and decorated like a museum on the inside. Waiters were excellent, courteous but not “poky”. A little pricey—7 of us spent Canada$1150 including wine and dessert. Main dishes were about $70 each.

Staff are attentive and friendly and they have lovely private rooms to help celebrate special occasions. Can’t wait to come back again!

Amazing! Can’t recommend this place highly enough. We loved the very unique atmosphere of the restaurant. The bar was very cool with a great cocktail list. The dining room offered plenty of space with good music and high ceilings so it didn’t feel stuffy at all. And most importantly…all the food was excellent! Highly recommended.

The octopus was very tender and soft, and the hummus and chili pepper were blended very nicely. However, the dessert was unbelievably amazing. We ordered the one with Yuzu, and it was so delicate. Soft, tangy, creamy, sweet, crunchy, and refreshing—all combined in one dish. I would definitely get another dessert if I get a chance. The best dessert ever!

Made a reservation for a friend and I and got in within 10 minutes, skipped the line full of walk-ins. Amazing food, friendly service. It’s a gorgeous restaurant filled with beautiful art but quite loud, many patrons yell and are not respectful of others around them. They were accommodating of allergies. Highly recommend the salmon as an entree and jungle juice drink if you like something sweet.

My mom just went there to celebrate her 55 birthday with her friends and they had THE BEST TIME!! They don’t drink alcohol and the staff were so good at recommending them mocktails that fit their exact taste! Amazing and professional service, amazing food, amazing vibe!! A particular thank you to their waiter David for giving my mom and her friends an evening to remember

It’s nestled in a historic building right next to a hotel. The vibes are all about that old-school British charm, with a ceiling that screams "classy academia." The food is good and the service is on point. The oysters are very very fresh! So if you're down for a charming, historic setting, this joint is a good choice, my friend.

A bit difficult to find since it doesn't look like a restaurant from the outside but once your are inside, wow. the decoration, the old wooden beam, everything is beautiful. and then you get to the food and service which is equally amazing. The table are far enough that you still have some privacy but it gets packed pretty fast. Highly recommend for a special occasion

While service was SO incredibly slow (45 min between ordering cocktails to drinks being delivered and another 1.5 hours between ordering food and receiving it), the food was incredible. The beef Wellington was perfectly cooked. The waiter had to come over several times to confirm our orders. Minus service, this would have been a 5-star review.

Extremely luxurious interior designs, wow. Loved the whole atmosphere, it felt very high class and the service was impeccable! The truffle gnocchis was delicious but the rest were okay! We had a private room for our group of friends and it felt more intimate and fun. We waited a little while for our bottle of liquor so they offered us desserts on the house ! What a service ! 100% would recommend

Lovely atmosphere and service was attentive, though they did forget part of the order. A little on the pricey side that doesn't quite match the quality though. Recommend the cured salmon and beef wellington.

Very nice bar!! Old style which gives it an amazing look and interior design. The bar is big and it’s very nice to sit on the bar. Also the couches are comfortable. Had few drinks and they were really good. Had some bites which also were tasty. I highly recommend to visit that place when in Montreal.

This has got to be one of the coolest atmospheres for a bar and restaurant in the city! You feel like you’re been teleported back in time. The food was also surprisingly good. I would recommend the burger.

fantastic! Outstanding ambiance and comfy seating. Amazing drinks both the cocktails on the menu and the creative takes the bartenders create on request. My first time having hot sauce served with oysters and I loved it. A DJ in the corner wasn’t what I expected at a grand wood-paneled bar but it was just what the bar needed, too. Can’t say enough good things!

I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was (I had a beef tartare and pasta sauce). The service was excellent, going above and beyond to take into consideration my allergies and even sharing some tips on how to recreate the same meal at home. Would recommend in a heart beat!

The lobster gnocchi was absolutely delicious. The appetizer was not so good. I forgot the name of the dish but it had pumpkin seeds over a giant mozzarella ball. Service was very slow but the staff was nice and polite. Wonderful low light and architecture and decor.

The food was great. Appetizers were perfect. The only thing that could be better was the beef Wellington, but I believe that’s just because of a personal taste. The desserts were very good and not that sweet. The service was also very good and nothing to complain about. I will definitely return to this place soon.

Enjoyed the vintage, rustic look and the food was delicious. The servers were very attentive, never letting our drinks empty or water go below half. The only complaint I would have is the lighting is very dim with only candles at the table. Pictured is the Beef Wellington and Black Truffle gnocchi

Great restaurant , the food is well prepared and delicious! The atmosphere is spot on. Going to dinner with friends can be a great experience! If the service was more hospitable, it would better match the food and environment …
