Food was good for bar food. Fries could’ve been cooked longer but definitely not floppy in any sense. Initial service was great and attentive, but halfway through my burger my beer was empty, and yet no offer for a second. No harm no foul, but if you see I’m done with food and drink and I’m sitting at the bar at least check in before getting on your phone. Understandable if it was crazy busy, also I could’ve spoke up, but usually in other places I’ve been the customer sitting at the bar gets at least checked on, if for nothing less to see how the food was. Kudos to the kitchen for a Excellent Maven Burger, cooked perfectly medium. Don’t think I’ll be making it back down foster any time soon, which is a shame because they had one of the better tequila selections I’ve seen in my year in Portland.

This is a hard one to write. I have enjoyed their food in the past, drink menue respectable and fair prices. Today was marked by 40 min wait on appetizers and when asked was told it was going to be more than 20 min more. They offered and did refund the food as we had to go somewhere else to get something to eat, but not before getting hit by rude, dismissive staff. Upon asking about the amount being refunded, my concern over how they would handle the tip written on the ticket, I was told that I was wrong about the total I endorsed on the sales receipt (I wasn't) and that tips were processed at the end of the night as they walked back behind the bar. I'm only fairly sure I just tipped $6 on a beer. Mistakes happen, kitchens get backed up, rude service that doesn't address customer concerns makes me wonder why I don't just deal directly with the kitchen.

A bit disappointing. We were very excited to try out this spot as it comes so highly recommend and their "Nacho Week" nachos looked great. We walked in, not really sure where to go to order food. You order from the bar and grab a number. Only had one menu at the bar where there are lines of people looking to order food. Moscow Mule was one of the worst Moscow mules we've ever had. Not sure if you could even call it a mule. The nachos which we were really looking forward to were very disappointing, a handful of toppings on the top chips, other than that, it's a plate of tortilla chips. Seems that they should have kept their Greek Nachos for nacho week.... The burger was actually really good!! Wishing it was a better first experience!

The specialty burger was not good. Bland, lacking in any flavor, bacon undercooked, sauce inadequate if even added at all. It tasted mostly like raw arugula. The fries were tasteless as well. Cheap burger special was actually halfway descent. The bartender also ignored me but was certainly overly attentive to the attractive coworker seated at the bar right next to me. Nice trendy decor with somewhat of a hipster vibe. Obviously, I don't fit their look which made me feel most unwelcomed. Was it better than Burger King? Maybe?... You don't really compete with their zesty sauce tho, and I suppose the chairs were about as comfortable. I most definitely prefer SuperDeluxe, however... Best wishes.

Great Food & Drinks! Its great to see the owner at his place hosting & serving. You really don't see that much in the food industry! The Mediterranean & American food menu is yummy! I like that they change the menu seasonal but keep all the customer favorite staples (Gyro & Falafel sandwhiches, FOPO burger ect...). Drink turnaround time is about 2-5 minutes (just depends on how busy they are), Food order to your mouth is about 10-20 minutes. I like going after 9/10pm because wait time is cut in half, and where in Portland can you go for great food after 10pm thats not fast food? Bar Maven! Good Job to this fine & trendy establishment!

Bar Maven is not only our favorite neighborhood bar, but a part of what we call home. The staff is always filled with the best company, and the atmosphere is cozy. Their food is some of the best I’ve ever had around these parts. If you want something simple and delicious, the Maven Burger or a Gyro is choice with a side of their fries. Heavy appetizer: poutine or the gyro nachos. Light appetizer? Fried cauliflower. Check the board to see if they have baclava! Solid happy hour menu and prices. Keep a lookout for menu and drink specials as well. It’s a 21+ place, but dogs are welcome outside on their patio!

Overall this place is great. The layout inside can be a bit hard to navigate when it gets busy but people are always polite and it's not a problem. Great tap list and the food here is amazing. Service is good and the staff are always friendly. Burger Week 2019- toppings were delicious. The poached pears and red onions added a lot to the dish. I could have used a bit more bleu cheese (but I'll eat it by itself so I'm the weird one) and the patty was maybe a tiny bit dry but considering the volume they're putting out that's very understandable. All in all a great burger and highly recommended

Great dive bar. They are open late which is wonderful. They have outdoor covered and heated patio. The food is good and agree with others sometimes the portions are too small so keep that in mind. Otherwise they have a good beer and liquor selection and sometimes have karaoke.

Get the Gyro Nachos! Promise you won't regret. Korean wings on Wednesdays are my favorite. No place in town makes wings like these. I guarantee you'll enjoy all the food offered on their robust restaurant like menu. The meny is totally worth reading through whilst enjoying your first drink. The atmosphere is cozy in the cold months and open and airy in the warm months. They have a really nice outdoor patio that hosts dance parties from time to time. Although, 90% of the time the bar is low-key. Very dog friendly place too. I love meeting all the puppers and their owners.

Burger and two drinks for about $35 pretick. Get there early if you can and order your burger a couple shades rarer than you want it. My buddy’s blue burger was cooked as order and was amazing. Mine somehow came out medium-well and was just fine. The kicker was that it took almost an hour for the burgers to come out. Also advise ordering the fries crispy but that’s just a personal preference. Overall food was great, if inconsistent, but would most likely find somewhere else to eat.

The seating was uneven with chairs to table and there was not a single napkin on the tables. Also, we went for burger week during happy hour and their huckleberry burger was soaked through on the bottom like it was sitting in the back forever, which would explain the hour long wait for food. Then, there were chatting servers at the bar not helping people and only one server who was carrying them. Overall, it was a terrible experience and my time and money were wasted.

Great bar and decent/good bar food. The drinks are always a good strength and the bartenders are friendly. The food is overall pretty good though I've had my burgers come out burnt a few times. Not a problem when I order their hummus or skewer plates, those have always come out great.

Parking on Foster is a bit of challenge because the city keeps rearranging it, but generally you can get a spot reasonably nearby. Watch for the no-turn lanes.

Update many years after my original review - they still have it. Great drinks, food, and atmosphere. They also have N/A and CBD drinks! Comfortable neighborhood bar with a burger to rival the big guys. Drinks are good, can be loud at peak hours, but the patio is perfect for summer happy hour and the inside has the perfect ambiance for a first date. Bonus: they have a parking lot.

This is a great place for so many reasons. Their tap list makes me want to try everything, very well balanced. All the food I’ve tried has been really good and the staff was great. The only thing that kept me from giving five stars was that some of the cigarette smoke from the outdoor smoking area gets drug back into the bar when the door opens if you’re seated close to the door. Other than that 5 stars! Great neighborhood spot. Thanks Bar Maven!

  • jerrald silalack

Really chill environment. Drinks are good and the food...(yet to try but will update this review when I do). The decoration is awesome. The tables are super dope. And the hidden door to the patio hard to find. Cool local place..... update. The food was good. Nothing too special I saw or ate. Other than the fries with Harvey. They were super bomb. A little on the soggy side but well worth it. Sunday's also have all day happy hoiy

Adding to my review one more time in 2022 to say they have a new menu. Same fantastic service. *Adding to my review 4 years later to say that this establishment only gets better and better! Bash knows how to take care of his customers and we appreciate him greatly* We have been coming here since the first week they were open. Great food, good prices, and friendly professional staff.

Good selection of food with an extended happy hour at night. Falafel sliders were great, onion rings were pretty standard, the mac and cheese wedges were a nice novelty though I almost wish they just had a Mac and cheese entree though. The baklava was good but maybe a little over the top and not worth the extra price vs at any food cart that serves it. Would come back for the sliders but would go elsewhere if craving anything else.

This became my new favorite place because they have delicious vegan options. Because of my severe intolerance to eggs and cream so it's nice to know that if I have vegan food I don't have to worry nor ask questions about what I can eat. Everything is reasonably priced and the service is fantastic. Plus they have Coopers Hall wine, which is what brought me there the first time.

And the Fuzzy something (I don't know, I've had a few of them... So good! Can't even taste the vodka. I won't be driving tonight. I am in love with this place. My new SE go to!

I love Bar Maven! This place always has fantastic food, great drinks, and friendly service. Everything is bar service here so don't expect them to come get your orders or ask you if you want another drink at your table. The food can take a while when they are busy, but the kitchen is very small so this is understandable. Just know what to expect when you go there and you will have a great time

  • Laura Herrera

Bar Maven is great! We are here most Wednesdays for Korean Wings that are sweet, salty, spicy, and crunchy! The Gyro Nachos are also really yummy. They have been having Brewery "takeovers" which have been fun. (Right now they have things on the tap from Coastal Breweries). The staff are fast and friendly. The back patio is big, but FYI: smoking is allowed back there. We love this place!

  • Alice Nelson

I go here at least every few weeks for the past year or so and absolutely love this place. It's a rare bar that I can go to by myself, sit at the bar, and hang out with the staff and regulars. I always have a great time! The food is delicious, the drinks are delicious, the owner is awesome, and the bar setup is really cool. It's a great local business that you should support!

We've been there a couple of times and we like it, beer and cocktails are good, also their burgers are bomb. Their Jukebox is fun and entertaining, there is a patio and a quite big outdoor sitting area.

This is a true gem! So far I haven't been able to order food off the actual menu because they always have a special like taco Tuesday, wing wenesday or happy hour going on. All of which has been amazing. Also have a good tap selection as well as bottles with clearly marked prices, and good ones. The staff has always been very friendly as well. Love this place!

Cool bar, rustic atmosphere, think inside a log cabin. Service was very good. Good choice of beers. Although I didn't have anything to eat, I was told by several patrons that the food was really good. It was quit busy, so I'm not sure if there was music playing. The din from the crowd was loud, but not so loud that it would be hard to have a conversation.

Amazing cauliflower, but a small portion. They were slammed (HH all day Sunday/burger week) it took about an hour to get our food which was understandable given how busy it was they ran out of regular fries and gave us sweet potato fries which were delicious. The burger week burger had a good flavor, but I was disappointed because the beef was cold.

  • Kevin Carroll

Ups and downs . The pork shanks were great and worth the sticker price, but $9.50 for a side order of sweet potato fries is way too expensive in my opinion. For drinks the huckleberry gimlet was excellent, the margarita was watery. One bartender was really rude which was pretty off-putting, but the rest of the staff were really friendly and helpful.

  • Katie Green

Bartender on a monday night was super chill and understanding when I was being really indecisive after a long day at work. Happy hour food was sooo good. I had their lamb kabobs and hummus and pitas and it was delicious and very filling. Drinks were tasty and well balanced. I'd recommend checking it out. They had a good ambiance and pinball too.

  • Bonnie Hastings

I love this place but the 2nd time I’ve been there they they were very short staffed. Took forever to get food and one guy handling the bar was not enough. Not sure if they need to pay staff more or what. Not sure if we will be back as this impacts the experience.

Good neighborhood spot. Friendly people and go food. Wish they had a more broad menu though. Good music selection. Returned recently and the vibe is different and the food isn't as good as before. Also reading the owners responses to criticism is down right ridiculous. No need to go here. Just head to the Slingshot down the way.

Such good food and great drink selection in an old-Portland-feeling space but be prepared to wait in line cuz service is sloooooow. It would be different at a place with table service but when the line is 7 people deep every time you want another beer, even on a Wednesday night, it makes most people impatient.

  • Rob Campbell

I really enjoyed the experience and the food here. They also had a pretty good selection for drinks. There was a relaxed atmosphere, and even on the weekend wasnt too busy when I went. The staff was friendly and attentive. I would recommend this spot to somebody looking for a place to sit down and get to it.

Very unassuming bar. If your whiskey fan they have unbelievable selection of whiskey. Hold on one second hold on they're one of the few places in Portland that has Pappy Van Winkle. Food is great as Well. If your into whiskey, go before 6pm because the afternoon bartender really knows every about whiskey.

Fantastic hidden gem. The staff and owner are the best. Fun and friendly, great service, they make tasty cocktails and are knowledge about craft beer and spirits. The pricing here is extremely fair but the best surprise is their food. Just the best and most unique pub food in Portland. Gotta go!

  • George Raad

Great patio and tap list. I've had their cocktails and food before too and it's all sooo good! Fair prices and the area has some other good options depending on what time you're there, in case you're not into it. Definitely recommend this place though. Don't think you'd be disappointed! Cheers!

Some of the best food off Foster. Do yourself a favor and get the Maven Special, add egg. Or the wings. Or the tabouli. Or the KimChi Burger. Damn, its all good. Great patio, amazing service, and a rock skip from my pad. If you're debating between two places to eat tonight, choose this one.

  • Jeff Roman

Neoportland prices and vibe but the staff are friendly and the service is fine. Lots of seating including a big covered patio. Perfectly fine place but somewhat lacking in character, just a basic inoffensive but well appointed bar for the people who call foster Powell fopo.

  • Bren Miaira Kutch

This is a really awesome grungy fopo bar. The food is surprisingly really damn good, bartenders are super nice, drinks are good, good tap selection, patio is dog- and smoker-friendly, and you can sink as much $ as you want into the digital jukebox. It is, however, loud af.

Friendly bartenders and owner. Oasis in the neighborhood. The menu has a Mediterranean emphasis, and has more variety than most bar food in Portland. On the drinks side, the fresh squeezed Greyhound and fresh whiskey ginger are highlights. Solid happy hour deals from 4-7.

Usually a good place to go to est and drink. Happy hour is no more ans food has gotten pricy, $19 for a burger. Also they let their friends play music and they yell at patrons and run them out of the bar. I will not be going back.

A consistently great bar with excellent food and fairly priced drinks. Its atmosphere of locals trying to enjoy food, drink, and conversation is routinely ruined by music played at club volume levels on even the slowest nights.

One of the best burgers we have had in a while, kimchi, pepper jack, and bacon on a soft toasted pub bun. Good music and the bartenders were welcoming. We live and work in the neighborhood, will definitely be back.

The food is good during happy hour when they're not busy. The brussels sprouts were SO good!! The fries my friend ordered were incredible. The second round of fries were meh.

Very nice environment. The outside patio is real nice! Great drinks, plenty of beer options. Fair prices. Great menu with above average bar food. Love it here! Great vibes!

Kind of dark, but they had an amazing burger. Service was pretty decent too. I liked the price. No complaints. I'll come back with some new friends and share the experience

  • Josh Vader

The food is good but apparently a burger and two beers costs $62 and they will not answer the phone. Lesson learned - do not give them your credit card, only pay in cash!

Nice atmosphere inside and on back patio. Food is excellent and a very good selection of craft beers. You will love it. Wish I lived closer I'd be there often.

One of my favorite places on foster, a great place to stop in before or after pizza at Assembly Brewing.

Great neighborhood spot. Good food menu including burgers and usual bar staples along with Syrian family recipes (hummus, gyros, kabobs, etc). Recommended...

Neighborhood bar/tavern with consistently fantastic food. Good selection of rotating taps. Now has Cooper's draught wines too. Owner and staff are friendly.

  • Sarah Wines

One of my favorite establishments. Good cocktails. Great beers that are constantly rotating. Fast and friendly staff. Fantastic food. Best burger in SE PDX

They have a great happy hour menu. Food is really tasty, Lebanese-influenced. Cute little patio from which you can check out all the action on Foster Ave

Love this place! Excellent bar food, great tap list, and comfortable but cool atmosphere. The Korean wings on Wednesday's are some of the best in town!

  • Chase Weinhandl

This place never lets me down. Great drinks, happy hour, and it’s good food - not pub quality. With all great things, be patient. They work hard here!
