Went there to check out their eReaders and some paperback books. When entering the Nook area, there were two employees there talking about future shifts and coverage (schedule related stuff it seemed like). I walked over to the two eReaders they had on display. One was a color tablet (I forget the model but it functioned basically as a laptop) and the other was I believe the Nook Glowlight 4e. I was there a few minutes and neither of them approached me to see if I needed help or had any questions. I left and roamed around to look for the paperbacks I had in mind when visiting this location. I couldn't find what I was looking for so I went back to the Nook area to see if anyone was there to answer my eReader questions. No luck. I roamed around again in the paperbacks, browsing more, then headed back to the Nook area. To my surprise, there was an employee working the area. I walked over to the eReader demo area again, playing with the displays and a lady approached me, asking if I had any questions. I told her that I didn't have any about the eReaders but where to find books on a certain topic. She guided me in the right direction where after about 15 minutes, I found a few books to purchase. On the way to the register, I walked through the Nook area only to find no employees working there. I decided that it might be a good idea to do more research on them on my own before diving in fully. To their credit, I did visit roughly an hour before the store closed, and finally made my way to the register about 30 minutes until closing, but still. I've worked retail before and it has been my experience that if I saw a customer in any given area, I would try and help them as best as I could, even minutes before closing. But I digress... The cashier was pleasant. When looking up my phone number for my account (which I knew was expired), she informed me that I wasn't in the system and offered to sign me up with a new membership. I accepted and received my member discount on my purchase after answering a few basic questions for the account. I felt bad holding up the line as I had to give the cashier a bunch of info as the line started growing (the speaker announced that the store was closing soon, to head to checkout, etc.) Overall, a pleasant experience given the time of day. I'm sure if I visited again, (next time earlier for more employee interaction) I could give this rating 5 stars.

Yes, it is a chain store, however it has atmosphere. Knowledgeable staff that are genuinely interested in books and happy to help the customers. They are a little lost as far as direction since the Nook product that they banked on was such a flop, the still have the Nook circle in the middle of the store, just without any of those pretty useless tablets anymore. The area is haphazardly loaded with random books on tables and surrounding shelves. They still have the tv monitors with images of the tablets and some signage that needs to go. Barnes and Noble is a bookstore pure and simple, and should not lose focus on what made them great. There is still the Starbucks branded store inside, with lots of pastries and beverages to choose from, although the wonderful seating and relaxing area is still off limits due to Covid restrictions.

I was excited to be back. Since the pandemic, the place has got a revamp with a great new selection of books available. Sections have been reorganized to let the newest and most interesting titles be seen at the front of the store in a clean way. The cafe at the side of the store is open, and it's serving fresh coffee and snacks. The only minor qualm I have is that the seating arrangements in the store have been reduced. I like to take a moment and sit down to read a few pages before deciding to buy the book. This may be only temporary due to the pandemic, but I look forward to more seats around the store. All in all, a quiet place with a calm atmosphere and the latest titles to browse and purchase. 5/5.

I may be wrong, but I believe it's San Diego's flagship Barns & Noble. There's a lot of good book stores in town but, in my little world this is the place that I go to. It's nice and pretty organized. Chances are good that they have what you're looking for, and if not, they can order it. Sometimes, they host local authors' events where multiple writers talk about their books and writing processes as well as what they went through to get published. I sat around during multiple events and was able to ask questions at the end during QnA's. Starbucks has a little shop inside to keep you refreshed too. Overall, it's a cool place to relax and read for a bit. Buy a book!!

It is a nice bookstore. You will also find toys and other stuff, mainly literature-related. The place gets kind of messy in the children section, but the staff do their best to clean up, not always successfully. The books in general are pricey compared to Amazon, and the selection is not nearly as good, obviously. However, there is something about feeling the book in your hands, and the full sensory experience for the people who grew up with actual paper books. It is a pleasant feeling that Amazon cannot deliver immediately through your Kindle.

My absolute favorite location! Such a great set up, it's quiet, the staff just let you be but are willing to jump in and help when you ask, and they offer a lot of LGBTQIA+, POC, and Woman based novel options which we love! This place is huge and you can definitely get lost in there! My husband and I went recently for puzzles and it walked out with like 10 different ones because we just couldn't decide! This particular location is my favorite place to go on when I am having an anxious or crummy day. ❤️

I've been going to this location for almost ten years. It's been a great place to visit with friends and spend time with my son. The staff is always kind and helpful whether on the floor, at the checkouts, and in the cafe. The cafe sometimes has fun themed drinks to match book and movie releases. Lots of fun events in the past. The only thing lacking is vegan food options at the cafe. I do also enjoy browsing their game section. They keep a great selection in stock and have occasional sales.

  • Ki H

I honestly love Barnes & Noble. They have such a great collection of books from Horror to Romance. This is where I found my favorite author. I'm a picky reader so being able to find the perfect selection of books is amazing. They also have a little Starbucks café if you want to bring your laptop/tablet and get work done you can. It is A/Ced and the employees are supper friendly. The place is large and has a large selection of books to choose from.

  • Luana Cruz

Omg, there is a lady that talk SO LOUD. I don't know if she is the manager or what. She is totally nonsense, like everybody in the cafe giving her a side look, like?? Everybody trying to read a book or work and she is like in a bar or something. Zero common sense and respect. It's a blond woman, not sure what's her function. I even went in the back in one of that chairs in between the bookshelves and still hearing her voice. SO ANNOYING!!

Very nice book shop. This place has a beautiful ambience. Also advantage is we can go sit and enjoy reading the book. Also there is one cafe inside the ambience so we can enjoy a sip of coffee along with reading the book. The store has several sections of books like science, mindfulness, travel, US travel, fiction, sports, and much more. One must visit this shop to explore more. It’s also safe.

  • Chris Lai

I haven't been here in a while but decided to visit recently with the family since there's not much else to do during covid. I forgot how nice the store was and clean it is. Definitely a new go to spot to kill the evening and enjoy some books (I'm not saying to loiter, and you should still be respectful of the merchandise). We did end up buying some cool unique books for our kid when we went.

  • Rae-of-light

I really like this location. It has been years since I first visited and the layout has improved. Finding the book shelves was easy and I'm glad the store's focus is back on the books themselves while offering gifts and accessories as a bonus. The displays were enticing and felt inviting for different fandoms. I plan to give this store another visit in the near future.

  • kalyani chikshe

Great place for book lovers. The selection of books, gifts, and games is impressive and I always find something interesting to explore. They offer books of almost every genre, ensuring there is something for everyone's reading preferences. The in-store café is a nice touch, providing a comfortable space to enjoy a cup of coffee while surrounded by books.

  • Alysa

Best Barnes & Noble ever! I love browsing the store for books, gifts, games, you name it. If you want a nice place to read, study and grab coffee, there's an indoor Starbucks with great seating. It's quiet in the morning and definitely more lively at night. Might I also suggest ear plugs or headphones for extra quiet. Love this place nonetheless.

  • Lee Ann Talley-Mitchell

Recently visited the area. One of the managers (Christy) was rude with me and other customers. I also overheard her being incredibly condescending and hostile with employees in front of customers. I can't imagine what she's like behind closed doors. The store itself seemed to be in order, and the other employees were kind and helpful.

  • Elio Valverde

i went here to buy some gl manga and this guy started talking to me and it was pretty uncomfortable. someone who was in charge of the store came over and handled it!! it was amazing and made me feel so so comfortable and safe here! the store’s layout is really nice and i found myself buying more than i initially expected!

  • Megan Lin

I LOVE this Barnes and Noble! It's so nice and spacious, friendly staff, and convenient location. There was a location that I would go to a lot that closed down, but this definitely was worth the longer drive. I also love the cafe in the store and the discounts you get with a membership and purchase! It's awesome :)

  • Sarah Mccarthy

Love their cafe which is not a Starbucks, which means they have awesome drinks! I love how quiet it for studying and their staff was helpful when I could not find a book. I didn't need the children's department but their children's dept is always busy and seems like it would be so inspiring for young readers.

  • Betty Trinh

The cafe is always busy and it's still hard to get a seat all these years later. They have a good bargain books section and I always go home with something. It's hard to resist. The gift items like candles and book related home goods are really attractive. I found a really nice candle snuffer by Paddywax.

  • Aly Gough

This a great location. Even when it's busy, it's comfortable and relaxing. They have a great selection, lots of books, stationary, toys, and more. There's ample parking as well but it does get full in the evenings on weekends when a popular new movie showing is at the theater next door.

  • karl anderson

Borders books has bit the dust along with B Dalton bookseller, Pickwick books and now Amazon's brick and mortar stores. But Barnes and Noble soldiers on. This is a great store with books, games and cards. The staff tries hard too. Well worth the visit, even if it just to browse.

  • Nika Shlopov

One of my favorite Barnes and Nobles because there is a Starbucks cafe (however you cannot use points there) and there is a lot of seating to read or relax and drink some coffee. This location also has a very large section of art supplies, notebooks, and gifts which is great.

  • California Dreamer

Nice location, fairly organized and clean. It can feel a bit busy with traffic, but the service is good and workers are helpful when you need a hand. Selection is fine, I did not havr trouble finding books on language, music, coding, and other stuff I was looking for.

  • Minion Anuta

Such a great place to come and relax, and find a great next read. With the digital stores taking over, I'm glad there are these brick and mortar stores left for the actual bookstore experience. Also, super friendly staff And great coffee shop ☕️ inside.

  • Billy Au

Wide selection of books, great Starbucks coffee, nicely maintained, spacious and plenty of parking space outside. Conveniently located next to I-15 and surrounded by Edwards Cinemas and a bunch of good restaurants. I could easily spend a whole day in this store.

  • Gareth Oskam

Never been disappointed in 26 years. In fact, it was B&N that tipped my wife’s opinion to immigrate to San Diego ..... from England! Great staff, always helpful. Books and authors I want aren’t always easily obtainable but the selection is always good.

  • Anthony John

Great team! My son is reading a lot more and we visit and buy a new book almost every week. So nice to have consistently nice help at Barnes & Noble. They communicate well and have patience with my children to ensure a great experience. Thank you!

  • Vikram Gunasekar

Simply love this place! Staffs here are pretty good, helpful and very knowledgeable. Their collection is pretty good too. My son loves spending time here, reading books , browsing toys. There is plenty of parking but might get scarce in evenings.

  • Niala Avlis

It's not the best, why did you first offer me 20% to raise future purchases with my membership, then I paid low to 10% for my books I bought, she told me that Of paper that cost .010 cents I said it's ok in my city it's free why you charge,

  • Perla Navarro

Amazing and impressive customer service. I live in the East Coast and I was trying to purchase an item for my daughter's birthday that was on sale and was not available for purchase online or in stock in any of the stores nearby from were I

  • Elizabeth Lise TVillalpando.Ellison

Everyone was great but 1 guy was fastidiously pushing past people and speaking to everyone as if we were a bother. I asked him if he was having a bad day and if so I hoped it got better. Experience improved. I love Barnes & Noble.

  • hs y

There was many gifts for Christmas and Haloween. It was clean and pretty calm. In the children section, the children were sitting reading books with their mother. They look happy. Children will feel like reading a book.

  • mike black

Next to the Young Adult section they have a display of homosexual books. The book-covers eliminated all guess-work. I see a future Barnes & Noble with plywood in their windows and weeds in their parking lot.

  • Amador Jaojoco

So great. They are always fully stocked of every possible genre. Even sub genres like Pride, Pride for Straight Allies, Pride for Asian Men, Pride with a Christian POV but still gay. Great store.

  • Marc P

Huge selection of manga and graphic novels. They are doing bogo 50% for manga as of March 25th. Obviously have all of the classic books in stock as well and also have a nice assortment of toys.

  • Cassie Misa

Store always has a great vibe to it. Pretty good amount of people yet still calm and easy to get around. So many other things to look at and possibly buy definatly plenty of amazing gift ideas

  • Elias Carbajal

I know this place is know for selling books but I was there for their cheesecake and coffee. They were both so delicious. I recommend this place to grab some books, coffee and cheesecake.

  • Stephen Clark

Solid selection for a bookstore in 2023. I do wish that the front section of new arrivals that's a broad catch-all of "fiction" split the genres they include in that, though.

  • Nakita Swain

I brought my nephews to read several books and not have to worry about their outbursts like in the library. The staff was so kind and helpful. They can't wait to come back!

  • Fay Hamilton

They saved my book (last copy) even when I couldn't make it in because I was sick. One phone call and they put it on hold. Was glad to pick it up when I was feeling better

  • Sam Barboo

Decent inventory of books on the shelves. Best inventory of chess books in San Diego currently. However, Borders is solely missed. Better selection and relaxing seating.

  • Mac V.

I love the modern feel and the decor. Celebrates the mystery and adventure of books and fantasy. Its a vibe and experience for sure. My daughter loves it and so do I.

  • Heather Skale

My favorite b&n in SD. Huge and well laid out. I had a creme brule latte that was nice. I found some of my favorite books in two displays. Lost my husband two times!
