Live nearby so have stopped by many times to pump tires and do some minor fixes. overall staff are nice and friendly. based on past experience and the high rating on Yelp thought it wouldn't be wrong to have my bike assembled at their place. took the bike there in Sat morning and they were quick to do the job so went to get it in the afternoon. after few minutes' ride, I noticed there's some noise from the chain scratching somewhere so took it back. The young guy with long hair was very helpful, took a ride and adjusted it for me. so I tried it again, shortly after I switched the gear, the chain just fell off!! took the bike back again the guy put the bike on the stand and adjusted it for a while. afterwards I just went home. later I rode a longer distance and found that the wheels are not well tuned. so I took it back again. the guy spent some time tuning the wheels. when he brought the bike out he apologized for having me going back again and again. This morning when I tried a even longer ride, I found shifting between gears is clunky and there's even louder scratching noise. When I finally arrived the destination I noticed the inner surface of the crankset is severely scratched and some tops of the teeth were rubbed off. It's sad and disappointing to see a new bike has to undergone such torture. They might have provided excellent service to many others but definitely not in my case. And I don't think I've done anything inappropriate to them to deserve this treatment.

The shop is a bit small and hard to browse around because of all the merchandise everywhere, but the staff are generally really nice and helpful. I went in last week to get bicycle helmets for me and my husband--they didn't have any above a size small in the store at the time, but one of the men who works there (really tall guy) offered to zip over to their storage locker a couple streets away and pick up a few more for us to try on and check out. When he came back and two of them fit, he gave us a few bucks off the helmets as a thank you for waiting, which was a kind gesture. It can be a little hectic inside with people in and out looking for parts and sometimes working on bikes inside or outside the shop, but the customer service makes up for the bit of chaos.

I can say that I have been a customer here for nearly 30 years. Same owner who still lets people in the neighborhood get some free air or borrow a few tools for on the spot quick repairs they do themselves. It's a bit of a random inventory, but they do have bikes with the latest and greatest components and can order what you need if you're just looking for parts. I brought my old GT Karakoram that I bought from them over 25 years ago for a tuneup as well as revamping a new-used bike I picked up with V brakes. If you want to keep it local definitely let them give your bike a tune up and keep their neighborhood staple going.

I love this bike shop! Affordable bike repairs by very knowledgeable mechanics. As a bicycle commuter I rely on them for quality repairs to keep me safe from mechanical failure in or near traffic. I've brought my bike in here in bad condition several times, the most memorable when the derailleur went through the spokes and tore up the chain. After about a week (they needed to wait for the special ordered derailleur hanger or it would have been sooner) they had all of the damage repaired and it was riding like new again. I trust them and could not recommend them more!!

Upfront and efficient! The folks at Bicycle Express are popular and I can see why- I can arrive with my bike and be out in 20 min or so. This struck me recently: I came in with a bolt from my toe clips missing. It is a niche part and needed it replaced. BEFORE taking my bike, they told me upfront about their bike-on-the-rack charge, and how much it would be. These people are honest and I appreciate- I think you will too. I have come to them with issues ranging from a bolt coming out of my bike and needing a replacement, to needing a tube (so pretty minor so far).

Been coming here for over 20 years, same GREAT service every time. Have bought their used bicycles several times and bought new ones too. Their Labor quality and service is second to none. Their $50-$75 used bikes (Mountain Bike or Road Bike) are so well tuned and maintained many times I’ve beaten $3,000 Stump Jumpers at Alum Rock , Santa Cruz Mountains or just road racing down any long avenue. Their (competitors) gears and chains be slipping while the bikes from Bicycle Express shift and grip tight and right. This place is a San Jose Treasure for sure.

Bought a big-box bike and brought it in for a tune up to make sure everything was solid. Tune up was very reasonable. I bought a better seat as well, and they installed it for free. The mechanic was friendly, helpful, and had my bike back to me the next day. As others have said, the only downside to this place is it is small so selection is limited. I'm definitely going back. Update: took a friend's bike in for service. Same great service, they checked it over carefully despite being swamped with holiday business.

Two times I've been there they treated me with much respect and concern to get what I wanted very good service I will continue to do business with them and to let others know about them,as I was told from the community. Thank you for the continuing support, service to us all.on 5-20 my bike broke down I took it to BICYCLE EXPRESS and they took good care of me with also a decent price for the repairs thank you so much I'm now back on the road more so like a nice day that it turned out to be..God bless all of you...

I've been going here for years and prefer this small family shop over Campbell and Palo Alto shops. They have beyond fair prices due to using refurbished parts in addition to new parts and won't overcharge you for labor. Recently, I was quoted $250 for replacing a rim and derailleur by a Campbell bike shop which refused to do it and then tried to upsell me to a new bike, but Bicycle Express did it for under $100 with PERFECT shifting since then! Please support this shop, they are great!!!

  • Lindsay Balfour

Very friendly neighborhood bike shop -- the types that remember your face and remember your bike by the 3rd time you visit, More than enough have they helped me fix my bike for major repairs at a minimal charge and even better when they make small repairs almost for free! Prices are very fair for a small town shop too, which sometimes has been an issue with me in the past with local shops, but this one in particular shines! All your bike problems, come here!

  • Ella Se Moi

My little brother found this place and kept coming back because he said they were helpful and had the best prices. I called four different stores to ask about replacing the tape on my handlebars and three charged double the price Bicycle Express does. I also thought multi-speed road bikes were out of my budget because at all other stores they're $1000 and up. Here you can find good quality bikes for cheap. Please support this small, local business!

  • John Dixon

This shop is AWESOME! The staff is always super friendly, helpful, and willing to share their expert knowledge. The shop does look a bit cluttered, but that's really just a bunch of awesomeness crammed into a small place! I've special ordered parts a few times and they always call me early to let me know they've been delivered. Their pricing on parts and labor is super competitive, and they have a huge selection of wheels, tires, and accessories.

  • Arturo M. Escajeda

They were very nice, but the service they performed on my bicycle was terrible. All I needed was a rear shift cable replaced but they somehow managed to: 1) tear my handlebar tape 2) charged me to replace it (with a color I didn't even want) 3) somehow allow the hydraulic brake fluid to leak out (?!?) which I didn't notice until I got back home so I had to pay another shop to fix it which cost me $40... All for a simple brake cable!

  • miles kpg

They don't just fix and sell bikes, they fight crime. I came in asking prices for single speeds after mine was stolen. They'd worked on my bike before and said they'd keep an eye out for it. I get an email the next day saying they had my bike, Jess took it from some dude after she saw him with it. Never had that happen at any other shop, or by filing a report with SJPD. Best shop in SJ. Summit is wack, go Express.

  • Michael Ruth

This shop reminds me of the shop I used to hang out in and watch the TdF while I didn't have cable (pre-streaming). It's packed with bikes and the most commonly purchased parts and accessories. You can see mechanics working on bikes but salesmen with pointy hair are nowhere to be seen. Purchased a tube and the staff were quick to note I'd mistakenly grabbed a Schrader valve. I will definitely return to this shop.

Bicycle Express Coming from nyc, I'm accustomed to apathy with incompetence or minimal competence coupled with attitude and apathy. Here At Bicycle Express I was surprised to find care, mastery, and friendly, attentive customer service. Their prices were actually favorably competitive with popular internet retailers, and this, coupled with the service make this place a very rare and valuable bargain.

  • Lauren Bowman

I've visited Bicycle Express for fresh tubes a few times over the years, but recently needed some repairs after an accident. The promptness and clear communication I received was incredible; these folks will take GREAT care of your ride. I had my bike back with a fresh wheel and a bonus clean chain within just a few hours and at a reasonable price. Really thankful for this crew.

  • Michael Griffith

Nice small shop focusing on repairs more than selling bikes. They weren't able to help me, but went out of their way to point me at a few other shops that might have the parts for my older bike. Really nice guys you will make you feel comfortable. Another customer came in while I was there and didn't know how to use a bike pump. They helped him *without* making him feel stupid.

  • musiqdeep *

Great experience, customer service was off the charts. Had a bike flat, and they immediately took it in with once one of the 3 bike mechanic experts became available, he quickly serviced it, did a quick check, oiled it and off I went, in less than 15 minutes. Extremely affordable in cost, to service also. Love how they caringly answered all my questions. Thanks Bicycle Express!

  • TIMOTHY SOLOMON

Love this place they always take care of me niko rich Eric thank you The stickers you hooked it up with or cool as hell too.... They are here to help with all of your bicycle needs..... I have purchased a bicycle with these guys I bought a KHS flight 150 bike is pretty darn cool.... I plan on getting another bike in the future they will be definitely the spot I will go to.

  • Beena David

OUTSTANDING! I'm visiting from Chicago for work and decided to buy a bike on FB Marketplace for commuting. Brought it to Bicycle Express for a tune-up and it rides like a dreeeeeam now! The family that owns this place are all lovely people, too (and that's an understatement!). Thank you to Rich, Karen, Chuck, Chuck Jr, and Eric for making it a fantastic experience! ❤❤❤

  • Alec Ewert

This was THE bike shop to go to when I lived in SJ. Nicest people, always stoked to help you out for a great deal. Since I moved to the East Bay I seriously miss this bike shop. It was always a pleasure going there and the guys even took some of their time to teach me stuff if I ever had questions. Best bike shop I've been too, wish there were more like it.

  • Simon Mirelez

The staff is not very friendly, only friendly to frequent customers and the slim older gentleman is very rude and sarcastic, the only upside to this place is they are always in a rush to GET YOU OUT THE DOOR. The shop isn't very nice or clean itself either. Only recommend going in for change of tires or tubes, very pricy for anything else.

  • pedro enriquez

Excellent service with very fair prices. I went in to put a chain on my bike and they Tony charged 5 dollars. When I left the store my gear fell off, I returned to the store and they fixed that for free, fixed a bad break and adjusted my gear for free also. They where so friendly and I would recommend this place above all others.

  • Jason K

Thanks for providing me a test run for the bike that I was interested. There’s no way for people to decide what to buy without trying it out. Couple weeks later I went back and splurged on a bike with a nice brand new set of pedals. Gotta buy it! If you've thought about getting a bike, I think you should invest in yourself.

  • Monel Joyce

I would like to give credit when credit is due. I returned to said bike shop and the owner owned up to defective product and honored his word to give me my money back. Also when I purchased a different U lock he gave me a discount. So I say kudos to Bicycle Express and company. I wish you all Blessings in future endeavors.

  • Justin Katich

These guys are number 1 when it comes to customer service, I purchased a bike when I got home and had some changes of mind and realized it was not the right one for me they let me swap it out the next morning and pay difference on the bike I wanted the with no hassle! This will always be my go to shop!

  • Veerabhadra Gundu

Excellent service, very reasonable price. Other shop gave me quote for $150 plus and keep adding, this shop gave me quote for $75 and fixed all issues. One good thing I like about this shop is, if you buy tuning service they don't change labor other repairs, need to pay only for parts. Thanks, VG

  • Ana Gonzalez

I have been going to this bike shop since I was 7 years old I'm 39 now love how personable they are and how friendly. Many times they helped me fix my bike and no charge for minor things. They are close to my house I just wish they opened Sundays still a great place to get bike fixed.

  • Ankur Shrestha

Chuck and the whole crew is awesome. Affordable pricing, great customer service. I went from getting my old bike repaired with them to getting a new bike. They're super friendly and would highly recommend their bike repair services or showroom if you're on the market for a new bike.

  • Shawn Cerveny

One of my favorite shops in town, and I've been in all of them. Not the hugest selection of bikes and parts in town but they can get you anything you need. The prices are always fair, the service is quick and the proprietors are kind and knowledgeable folks. Give em a try...

  • Christopher Tran

One of the best bike shops hands down. I hope this place never goes out of business. It's not very big, but the employees and owners are top notch. I frequently bring my Bianchi track bike here for new parts or repair work. Husband and wife owners are amazingly nice people!

  • Dilan Manatunga

Great place. They are very kind and helpful. Came in as an absolute beginner and helped me get the perfect bike. Were also great in getting the needed accessories. I would highly recommend this place for anyone just starting off for a bike, or for an experienced rider.

  • Jonathan Ludwig

Why would you want to pay twice as much for a bike rental. At the time of this review they charged $25/day for all bike types. Any other shop I found in the area charges at least twice this much. I really liked their service and the bike I rented was in great shape.

  • Martin Stein

A small friendly neighborhood bike store. They sell bikes but the Christmas special is still sitting on the middle of the store in July. Their inventory is limited. It's a great place to get your commute bike fixed quickly. A new tube with installation was $13.

  • Michael Ho

By far my favorite bicycle repair shop. It is a past time of mine to visit bike shops in different cities, and this one is by far the fastest and friendliest. A few times they have given me little parts for free, and they are very reasonable in their dealings.

  • Chris Chambers

Seems went you go in to fix one that's truly wrong, it's half ways fix so you can return, be charged again to complete the job necessary. Then I had to take bike, to Mike's Bikes in Willow Glen to find that nothing had been adjusted when job was first done.

  • Don Murray

Bought a rear mountain bike derailleur and two spokes. They make the spokes right there on the property and they were very knowledgeable about getting me a good derailer that can replace my old one with better performance. I definitely recommend the store.

  • Marcus-Alan Gilbert

Excellent service and fair prices. I have brought my bike in for a tune up and had a flat fixed. The flat was fixed in less than 10 minutes and the price was excellent. The owner and employees treat you with respect, I won't bring my bike anywhere else.

  • Christian Gonzalez

Awesome friendly service and great prices. This is a great local bikes shop that actually cares about their customers and product. Bought 2 custom fixies from this place, got a great deal on both plus a year of free tune ups. Bicycle Express rocks!

  • Craig

Ive purchased all my bikes (around 4) here for the last 30 years. I will NOT go anywhere else. They are the best around and will get you what you need. They are also Sharks fans so there is that. Go Sharks Go Downtown and keep this business going!

  • Swaraj Kanwar

Amazing experience!!! I cross screwed my pedals and the shop personnel’s knew all the options I could opt for Finally I had to get a new threading epoxied to the crank which the bike shop did it for a reasonable price Thank you so much!!!

  • Dom P

The guy who opens the store in the morning ,yellow compression shirt, is so rude. Has horrible customer service and no people skills. Blows people off when they need help then gets angry at them for minding their business on the phone.

  • Lucio Vazquez

Bicycle Express is one of those few shops that you don't really start to appriciate the value of until your particular bike project decides to leave the familiar grounds of organized and preordered parts in neatly outlined catalogs and

  • Yusuf Alam

Brought in two old bikes that hadn't been ridden in years. They cleaned and tuned them both up for fair prices. Both bikes function well. The staff was welcoming and respectful. Will be coming here for all future tune-ups and repairs.

New in town. I just walked in asking if they charged for air... Nope, absolutely free. He filled my tires, then told me the psi for future reference. That alone makes me a customer from now on. As well as their prices.

  • Emily

Outstanding customer service! My bike was squeaking so in additional to fixing this problem the guys also went out of their way and fixed a few other problems they found. And all this in just under one hour!
