Jay Schleicher is a conscientious agent—he knows the ins and outs of the insurance biz and will work hard for you. One day recently, I sent out a handful of emails to local insurance agents asking for quotes. Jay responded almost immediately, and it was a Sunday! I sent him my current coverage for auto and home the next day. He said he’d have some options and numbers to me by 9:00 pm. They hit my inbox at 5:30 pm. He was candid about the companies he represents, e.g., warning me that one company’s claim satisfaction was not as good as another’s. In another case, he pointed out that the company offers only cash value, not replacement value, for a roof when it’s more than 15 years old. This was crucial info for me given that my asphalt-shingled roof is 13 years old; the last house I owned had the same kind of roof, and it was 22 years old and leak-free when I sold. If you, like me, tend toward using independent agents, you won’t find a better (or nicer) one in the Twin Cities. Jay reviews clients’ policies on an annual basis and notifies you if a price increase is more than 10%. Be assured, he’ll re-run any quote if you ask. I started using indie agents 36 years ago, when I was a 46-year-old newly hatched divorcée buying insurance on my own for the first time. I’ve sat across from some agents who were not easy to look at. Jay definitely is not in that category—I mean, look at that pic on his website!

Jay is one of the easiest guys to do business with that I've ever met. I worked with Jay on a couple different things and throughout the process he was always polite and honest with me. He walked me through several options and helped me decide on what worked best for me. Jay talks to you as a normal person, and explains things in a way that makes it easy to understand. An insurance agent can show you numbers and point out how much coverage you get for what your paying, but Jay takes the time to understand you so he can explain what those numbers and what that coverage really means in your world. Jay is solid. I had no affiliation with him before finding him online. I have rental property including two units that I rent as short-term rentals through Airbnb and Jay helped me find policies that were specific to my needs. We went through each policy line by line so I could get educated and make sure I had the right amount of coverage. He is approachable, tech savvy, knows insurance policy well and meets you where you're at with your current understanding of the insurance space. We also ended up saving a small amount of money with exponentially better coverage. Jay's an All-Star, I was in a pinch calling brokers left and right and he beat them all and I got the home and auto policy I wanted!
