My 18 year old daughter is a university student and was recently back home for reading week. She went to Blushes for a consultation because she wanted a vibrant colour and they are typically hard to get, especially in Ottawa. We were also on a tight timeline to get it done before she left to go back to school. She was happy to discover that the salon could accommodate her so she went for a consultation. She was told she could get the colour she wanted and was quoted a price, albeit high, which she accepted after consulting me. She also told me that there was a possibility of "incidental" costs depending on what chemicals or colours they might have to add, which made me uncomfortable and should have been a giant warning sign. I didn't go in with her for her appointment, but apparently she had to sign a waiver (another GIANT warning sign, who has ever signed a waiver at a hair salon?? I certainly never have) stating that she would cover incidental costs if they came up. It turns out that the incidental costs ended up totalling after the initial quote, get ready for it...$323!!!!!!!! She told me she felt like crying when she saw the price because she couldn't afford it (actually, who can? Is the salon in Kanata or Beverly Hills?) Having being taught good manners by her parents who have always been supporters of the service industry, she gave the stylist a 15% tip which put her final bill at $372!! When she came home in tears, I waited to catch my breath and very calmly told her I was going to call the salon on her behalf. I spoke with the stylist and subsequently the manager, who both politely told me that nothing could be done to recuperate our dissatisfaction with the experience nor the costs that seemed, to be honest, a little bit like robbery, proporting to be honest because of the signing of the waiver. Many, many salons offer student rates, this one obviously doesn't. That total DID NOT EVEN include a haircut. As a long time community member, as a small business owner, as someone who supports the profession of hairdressing and good style, as a teacher, as a mother and as someone who believes in good service ethics, I would not recommend this salon to anyone. There are many many other salons that will not make you sign a waiver before you accept their overpriced services. And a side-note: she is happy with the colour she got even though it wasn't the vibrant green she asked for, and when she didn't buy the special (also over-priced) shampoo that she would need to maintain the colour (How could she? She had already spent half of her rent for that month on her hair) she got a headshake and a warning that guess what? The colour wouldn't last as long. Well I guess that should have been in the waiver too: the colour has faded to very dull after less than two weeks.

I got my hair styled at Blushes on June 30th 2016 for my prom. My hair stylist was Crystal, and I asked for my hair to be kept down and curled. I explained exactly what I wanted several times and she repeatedly assured me that she understood. When she was done, I looked in the mirror and I was not very satisfied. I asked her to touch up a couple parts, which she did. I still wasn't very happy but I was too shy to ask anything more. I paid and was about to leave when I saw my friend who'd also had her hair styled (her stylist was Melissa). Her hair looked a lot better than mine and she also agreed that mine did not look good. She urged me to go back and tell them, so I did. When I told them that I was unsatisfied, I was brushed off and told that it looked fine. I was, and still am, so disappointed with the service I received. My hair did not look good. The curls were not nice and some parts of my hair were barely curled at all. Besides, it's up to me to decide whether I like how my hair looks - not them!! I had to re-curl my hair when I got home, which stressed me out because I had less time to do everything else I needed to get done before my prom. It was also hard to curl my hair due to all the hairspray that was on it. I am appalled that I was brushed off when I voiced my displeasure concerning my hair. I wasted $60 to get my hair done. I will never return to blushes, and I recommend that you don't either, and I will make sure to tell others the same.

RIP OFF - went to the BBB .I have been a loyal customer for 10 years. I have brought my mother, grandmother and a few friends to this place. I went in for a colour correction , which on the website says"TBD" on the website for price. I ended up getting a toner and a darker root done. Took less than an hour and got a fluff dry. At the cash she tells me $220!!! When I questioned it she said I am being charged for a full head of balayage. How is it that I am being charged for a full head of balayage when I got toner and colour of my roots... no bleach whatsoever. When I called back saying I felt taken advantage of, she said everyone feels as though you should have payed the price. When she broke it down, she said you were charged the base price for balayage which is 165 and then 30 for the roots..... when I broke it down to her I said so I am paying 165 for toner and then another 30 for roots.... she stayed quiet and said as I said they all agree that you should pay the 220.... I should have been charged for a root touch up and a toner which is 125 on the website... they will NOT do ANYTHING for you if you have ANY issues with price , they knew doing this would lose me as a client and I already paid .. they already have my money I can't do anything about it their greed astounds me , do not go here because if you ever have an issue they will NOT do anything for you.

If you are looking for a hair salon with great people who are extremely well skilled in their profession,exemplify respect for all customers and create a fabulous experience time and again- look no further this is it!! The day I stumbled upon Blushes and Dorothy, was my lucky day. I had gone to other very well known salons in Manotick. One I was bullied at and the other burned my hair while doing highlights and charged me 350 dollars for the privilege. My beautiful curly hair was fried, I was disillusioned ,my hair was a right mess and I did not know what to do about it. Neither salon had a remote sense of customer service and owning when they made a mistake. And I was seeing the senior colourists. I needed help! I searched online and found Blushes,who I noted have won awards for their colour and design excellence so I booked a consultation with the owner Dorothy. From that point on,it's been a year now, my hair has been expertly restored all the while with grace, professionalism and immense skill!! II see Dorothy and Cassandra when Dorothy is not available. The level of communication,professionalism and care is outstanding! If our healthcare system had the same continuity of care as this salon we all would be as lucky as I feel at this place. It's a bit of a drive to Kanata from Manotick but worth the drive!! I am very grateful to ALL the wonderful staff!!

I have been going to Blushes 1 for quite some time now and I have only left dissatisfied once. It was my own fault, i asked for my hair to be cut too short, regardless. Walking in i feel I am always a welcomed guest, despite not looking overly stylish and "high end fashion" myself. The latte or cappuccino is a nice touch too, especially on the days where I forgot my morning coffee. The wait is usually never long. Melissa, my favorite stylist, is always punctual. Lateness I could understand, depending on how long her last client took. As I said early, the only hairstyle i was disappointed in was my own fault. Recently I have taken to just asking Melissa to do what she thinks is best for my hair. She studied hair styling, I studied multimedia. I really have no idea what my hair should look like. I would definitely recommend the store to others, but encourage repeat visits and talking with the stylist if you are dissatisfied so they can get to know you and learn more about what you are looking for.

I went in for balayage. When she finished with my hair I looked like I was a full blonde. She told me to leave it a few days and if not happy to come back and she would darken the roots. When I came back to see her to do that, the owner was extremely rude and argumentative. Nevertheless the stylist fixed my hair and I was happy! I called a couple days later just to let her know how thankful I was for her correcting this and how happy I now was. Skip ahead to today, I called to have my hair done again and was told I’m not allowed in the salon, they will not do my hair anymore… I’m completely shocked that this is how this business treats clients! If their stylist doesn’t deliver what was discussed, should I be blacklisted for taking her up on her offer to fix it?!? Very disappointed!

I had been a client of this salon for over 5 yrs. My stylist left, and I decided to try another stylist. I hadn't had a haircut for almost a year due to a family tragedy. The male stylist greeted me with an almost sneer, then had me sit in his chair where he proceeded to let me know that my hair looked like it hadn't been cut for a year, and that I didn't look after my hair. He kept "tsk-tsk-ing" while he combed my hair and shook his head. and also made negative comments like "you don't look after your hair". I felt so uncomfortable that I didn't talk, and felt upset. He gave me an good haircut, but his people skills were more than lacking. I will never go back to this salon again.

I have been going to Blushes for over a year. I started out with Laura and when she moved I was put with Michelle who was new to the salon. I have been very happy with her. She always knows what to do with my hair and is very creative and well educated in all techniques. I always leave feeling and looking my best. She is very pleasant and loves to chat. The salon itself is immaculate with all the Covid-19 protocols in effect. I also would like to mention another Michelle who is the receptionist. She is also very nice and helpful. I would highly recommend this salon!

I had a haircut yesterday. Worst haircut in my life. The stylist was Michelle and I can safely say based on the haircut she gave me that she knows nothing about how to choose the best haircut for curly hair. I had to ask her to just stop using scissors on my hair before it was a giant puff ball. I can't express how disappointed I was when I washed it and saw the result. When she asked for a second opinion before even starting my cut I should have taken that as a warning to leave. **edit** 4 months later and still hasn't grown in as a nice cut.

Awesome Products, Great Experience Overall. I was surprised by some of the reviews on here. But if you look at the one star reviews, most of them have one thing in common. They all mention pricing. If dollars and cents are the most important thing to you...go to magicuts, first choice haircutters, or the place that has the tv's in the mirror. I have been there 3 times now(once with Silas, twice with Michelle) and I leave happy every time. Did I get exactly what I wanted? No. I got something that looks better. Thank you Blushes Team!

I absolutely love the thought and care that goes into the experience I receive at Blushes. The salon is always immaculate, and the staff are friendly, engaging, and imaginative. The attention and detail that goes into the atmosphere and the services continues to astound me. I have never left an appointment wishing I had had someone else do my hair. The full experience is something that I unfortunately cannot describe in words. To anyone looking to take their hairstyle to that next level, I give Blushes my highest recommendation.

Great salon. Super friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Michelle is an amazing stylist! I have a rather unruly mop of hair, and though I have had some great cuts over the years, I suck at describing what I want concretely and often suffer the the consequences when it comes to inattentive hairdressers. Not only does Michelle get it right every time, but she knows exactly what questions to ask, and she's a pro when it comes to catering to and providing tips for maintaining your inevitably unique hair type. Hard recommend!

If there was ZERO stars that is what I would have picked. This place is a rip off. They over charge my mother constantly (she is 79 with dementia). They convinced her to buy $75 shampoo and conditioner and she can not wash her own hair and they know that because that’s why she was going once a week! They charged my credit card $5 without my consent because they made an error. They charge every customer $6 for PPE but they all wear there own masks! DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT HONEST AND PROFESSIONAL HAIRDRESSERS.

HIGHWAY ROBBERY- I was warned before going in, but i have been there before and had an OK experience so I regrettably took my chances. I was quoted a price and I would have been fine give or take $50 but when its $200 over , that is unacceptable ! I agree to the quote because thats what I can afford! $ 200 is a whole other service! Horrible experience , the manager was very condescending and refused to take responsibility for this mistake. I had to pay for this mistake, they would not make it right.. BEWARE!!!

Love this salon and Michelle is amazing! She's very meticulous and takes her time to do a great job with both cut and colour. She's super sweet and easy to talk too as well. I'm really picky about getting my hair done and seriously, Michelle is great. Definitely recommend. The salon itself is spacious and very clean. All the staff are extremely professional and courteous. The COVID precautions were absolutely outstanding and went above any other business I've seen. 10/10 from start to finish.

Such a positive experience with the staff at blushes. Have been a client of blushes for 15 years and have always come away exceedingly pleased. So much so that after a recent visit, friends said I looked 10 years younger!!! Great cut and colour, and recently tried the didigital perm...and wow worth every penny. Before each session the stylist explained clearly the next step and discussed the cut and type of colour to be applied. The hair is easy to manage and looks great!!! Thank you Blushes.

Both my Mother and I have gone to Blushes on several occasions. I have had an excellent experience each time I have been. My hairdresser retired and I was given someone else who is even better than the first. I have found them to be incredibly efficient, skilled, high quality technicians and stylists. Warm, friendly and unpretentious. I have never been there for more than an hour for a cut and style/blow dry, which I appreciate. I would recommend Blushes to anyone.

they ruined my hair. my hair has been my best feature and I went in looking to get highlights and paid $500 (I'm not kidding $500!!) only to walk out looking like a zebra. I literally cried my whole drive home. THATS HOW BAD IT IS. Not to mention the rude manager and terrible service. I refuse to leave the house now until my dad gets home with the box dye to fix the mess they made. DO NOT GO THERE.

Went on a recommendation from a friend and was not disappointed. My stylist was Michelle and she was able to clean my whole head up including my beard. I really needed to look sharp for an international business trip to the states. I ended up getting lots of compliments and it's all thanks to the professionalism of the Blushes staff and Michelle specifically. Will definitely visit again.

Silas cut my daughter's hair and Dorothy colored it, it was pure art, it's an amazing team. I have always been satisfied with the service. The salon is stylish and friendly. Over-sell products, over charge for services. +$300 for colour & cut. Charged me for blow dry ...which was less than 10 mins under a dryer-that the stylist insisted I do so she could see how the colour looked when it was dry... Live and learn & pass on to others. I'm a good customer, good tipper, rarely complain, but never again there.

My experience at this salon was the best l’ve ever had!! Incredible service from the beginning i felt super welcome. I came in not knowing what i wanted with really bad hair and the hairstylist helped me a lot. Left the store more than happy with amazing hair:) definitely will be coming back thank you for the amazing service:)

I had a haircut from Michelle and am very happy with the result. Blushes is a great salon with Covid protocols that have far exceeded expectations. Melissa has been my stylist for over 10 years, and I wouldn't go anywhere else. She's skilled, professional, friendly, and has seen me through some rough times where I lost much of my hair. I highly recommend this salon.

My wife and I were visiting our friend recently and she had just had her hair cut, coloured and styled at Blushes and she looked amazing, and even when we saw her the next day she looked like she had just come from the salon. It obviously speaks volumes about the stylist and what a great job they do.

Loved my first cut and blow dry by Dorothy! She is very professional and knowledgeable and knew exactly what my hair needed to get rid of dry ends and bulk! She also suggested some products which will help me create the same Style at home! I will be back for highlights!

High way robbery- $480 dollars for an absolute aweful job. Not only were they condensending and rude -but nearly 500 dollars and I'll have to go somewhere else to fix the aweful highlights and "colour correction" stay away- and their coffee sucks.

Businesses should be honest when quoting customers. It is not ok to quote one price, then proceed to tack on an additional 200.00. Reading these reviews, it does not seem as though they are transparent with their pricing. Be wary.

The haircut was nice, but no haircut should cost that amount of money. Obviously my fault for not paying attention; but for everyone else who just assumes the general price of a cut and style, I suggest you go elsewhere.

I always come back to blushes...Dorothy is my Edward Scissorhands...magic fingers, fast perfection, a great head massage with hair wash and a frothy cappuccino! Always come out with perfect hair and a pampered feeling!
