I've been dining at Bodega Cantina on multiple occasions over the past 7 years - lunch, dinner, and drinks.Throughout these visits, the restaurant has managed to consistently impress with its unique offerings and cozy ambiance. However, a recent experience during Happy Hour left me with mixed feelings. One of the standout items on Bodega Cantina's menu is undoubtedly the beef burger served in a wrap. This unconventional twist on a classic is an absolute delight, and I've found myself ordering it time and time again. I also love their sweet potato fries. Yet, even in a restaurant with such a strong track record, disappointments can arise. My most recent visit, which happened to fall on a Tuesday during Happy Hour, was one such instance. Excited to unwind with a couple of Pina Coladas, I eagerly placed my order. However, my anticipation quickly turned to confusion as I was presented with what appeared to be glasses of pineapple juice with ice and rum, lacking the creamy essence that defines a Pina Colada. Surprised by this departure from the norm, I inquired with the waiter about the absence of cream or coconut milk. To my astonishment, I was informed that these ingredients weren't traditionally part of a Pina Colada. Confident in my knowledge, I urged the waiter to check the menu, certain that coconut cream was indeed listed as an ingredient. With some reluctance, he referred to the menu and, lo and behold, found coconut cream among the specified ingredients. After this revelation, my cocktails were taken away, only to return after a while. Although it was evident that an effort had been made to rectify the situation, the resulting concoctions still fell short of the mark for a true Pina Colada experience. While this recent experience left a bittersweet taste, it doesn't overshadow the years of enjoyable dining I've had at Bodega Cantina. The innovation in their menu, particularly the standout beef burger wrap and sweet potato fries, is a testament to their culinary creativity. However, the hiccup during Happy Hour serves as a reminder that even the most consistent establishments can have their off days. Here's to hoping that Bodega Cantina maintains its reputation for excellence while ironing out such occasional blips in the future.

Went in for lunch on a work day. We were welcomed with a smile and got promptly seated and then were forgotten for about 15 mins, even though the waiters were just walking around. And finally when our order was taken, we were informed that it would take time because there were many people( honestly, a lot of them were mostly drinking). We said okay but little did we know that we had to wait for 45 mins to not have our food served and our work waiting at office. When we finally asked the waiter to check on our food, he went in and brought our food in the next 2 mins. Idk what that implies. Outrageously slow! And the food was not worth the wait. Poor flavours, very ready-to-eat kinda flavours, not authentic mexican flavours. The enchilada was a dry and the filling had no spices, just a load of butter. The tacos were tiny but okayish. The spicy rice had a stale smell to it. The halloumi burger was a dry wrap of a halloumi in a tortilla bread( this was by far better tasting than the rest though). I have given 2 stars for food only because my friend insists that it helped our hunger and we should be grateful. Also, he has never had mexican food before. While paying for the bill which came to 40 pounds, the paying machine asked us to select an amount for the tip and the waiter kept directly looking at us choosing one and it was so impolite and we felt compelled to pay a tip even though the service didn’t deserve it (you see we are mild people who are incapable of being rude or speaking up and asking for a confrontation). The drinks were great though. 2 for 12£ and great flavours. Oh and an old couple came in much much after us and were served within minutes, even though they ordered more or less the same items we had ordered. The ambience is really good but a shame how things are run here and the quality of food. I am not coming back or suggesting it to my friends.

Bodega is located just 5mins walk from the City station. We used to come to Bodega a lot, but in recent years, each time we try to pop in, they have been fully booked, cannot accommodate a pushchair (if this isn’t a warning sign, I don’t know what is!) But today was the day! My Nacho craving will be fulfilled. We arrived just after lunchtime at 12pm and despite having a handful of guests it still took a while to find us a table. I ordered the Chicken Mole Quesadillas with a side of Sweet Potato Fries and partner had the Mexican Chicken and nachos to share. As it was Happy Hour (2 for £12) we treated ourselves to sharing a Pina Colada. Our server wasn’t particularly attentive or prompt with getting us served. The food arrived within 20 minutes and I was SO disappointed by my craved nachos. They weren’t how I remembered, they were cold, stale and soggy! The Mexican chicken was shrivelled & dry. Our server did not check in with us, otherwise we would have brought it to her attention. However my meal was fine, it did lack some flavour, but it was fine, edible. When we had finished and wanted to pay, we got the attention of another server who asked us how the meal was, I mentioned the above and she said she would get the manager. The manager arrived shortly and stated as we had eaten all the nachos and left only half the chicken and hadn’t mentioned it before, there wasn’t much she could do. I was taken aback, we weren’t expecting anything, but an apology, but also we had come for a nice lunch not to be having to flag for attention to mention the food, when we were hungry. Despite the above, she reluctantly took off 20% off the entire bill, it originally came to £50 and was taken down to £35 with the cocktail discount. - I thought £50 was definitely not an average priced lunch. Overall I would say it was ok, but I won’t be returning again, due to the appalling service & very demeaning accusation. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone due to the price for a lunch, overall quality of food and the service.

My recent visit to Bodega in Birmingham left me with mixed feelings. The restaurant boasts delicious Mexican cuisine that truly hits the spot. The flavors and variety of dishes offered were impressive, making it a memorable dining experience in terms of food quality. However, I must address a couple of shortcomings that affected my overall satisfaction. Firstly, the service regarding the cocktails was disappointingly slow, taking over 30 minutes to arrive. Additionally, I had to remind the staff twice about a soft drink for my daughter, which added a bit of inconvenience to our meal. The most concerning issue arose with the chips, which arrived stone cold. Bringing this to the attention of the staff, they replaced the chips, but unfortunately, the second batch seemed to be the same chips reheated. This oversight regarding the temperature of the food was disappointing and detracted from an otherwise enjoyable meal. Despite these drawbacks, I appreciate the efforts of the staff to address the issues raised. The food quality and the vibrant ambiance remain the highlights of Bodega. I hope that the service hiccups and food temperature inconsistencies can be rectified to ensure a consistently satisfying experience for all patrons. Overall, Bodega offers delicious Mexican cuisine, but improvements in service efficiency and ensuring food temperature are crucial to elevate the overall dining experience.

Do no go to bodega. There's plenty of places with food and cocktails that you can go to in Birmingham. My experience was lacklustre and made me sick when I got home. I ordered the burger, basically a patty in a wrap, with overly oily fries and a pot of mayo from a bottle. Basically a weekday dinner made by a student. There were dots of oil left on the soggy paper under where each fry was. We were sat at wonky table in the corner. I'd be accepting of the less than mediocre food quality and poor atmosphere if the food was cheap. But the prices were high and what you expect for central Birmingham. the food I could have made better with my eyes closed. The pitiful portions of tacos didn't last me two bites. What an enormous disappointment. I'd rate it lower if I could. You can see from the picture how dark it was in the corner. This was 1.30pm. Why is it so dark in here?? I couldn't even comment on the poor food to my fried as I was sat right next to the cash register. I don't understand how you can call this a restaurant. A fast food joint maybe. I will not be returning! What a shame to catch up with an old friend in such a grim place. This total meal costs £34. For 2 places of food and a black coffee.

We were greeted by a man who didn't even say hello before telling us "we're not accepting walk-ins" even though I had booked. Had to wait five minutes for them to clear a table for us. Then had to wait almost 2 HOURS for our food to come out..(we were told it would be a long wait but not this long) and when questioned about our order the waitress came over with a completely different order list as if they'd forgotten. When our food eventually came out, they'd messed up my friends side order and gave her the wrong fries with the excuse that "these are the only fries we have" and I had to request the waitress to find me some chipotle mayo even though this should have come with our meal and was listed on the menu. We then had to wait a long time to pay the bill and ended up leaving at midnight (as they were closing) when our booking was for 9pm. Thank you to the waitress who was very apologetic and went to fetch us some nachos after noticing we had waited so long for our food. Every other time I've been to bodega's the service has been great but I was really put off by my visit the other night. It's such a shame.

I love this place, me and the family have been coming for years, but I'm not sure I will rush back after the last experience. Three of us went for lunch mid week. The nachos used to be brilliant, worth travelling for, but this time they were average at best. The chips and guacamole were good, but the rest of the ingredients were sub par, the portion size has also been significantly reduced, we paid an extra £6 for the sharer for 4 to 6 people, but was smaller than the old portion for two. My friend had a Mexican curry and asked for it to be spicy, it arrived with undercooked rice and was bland. Cocktails; the alcohol content has clearly been reduced to the point of being negligible. Service; my friend was served with the wrong drink, and mine was forgotten about until I reminded the waitress. I understand that it is tough in the hospitality sector at the moment, with spiralling costs and difficult recruitment, but Bodegas Birmingham now feels to me like they have given up on quality food, drink and service. We were so disappointed we went elsewhere for the next course.

When we arrived the host was nice, the mood of the place seemed great, and they even managed to sit us pretty quickly even though we had a pushchair. After that we found out that the service was horrible, the waiters although many of them they all seemed to be very interested in chatting with themselves facing the bar, opposite to where we were seated, but we managed to get their attention altough we saw a lot of people that had to walk over them to ask to be served. Then the food, it took at least an hour and a half for it to arrive, we ordered tacos which shouldn't have taken so long to make since they were slightly larger than a two-pound coin, but they even arrived cold. Furthermore paying 7.50 for coleslaw with ONE piece of prawn sealed the deal with us to never go back. Hopefully this helps them improve the food and the service. I visited here yesterday with my husband and its such a lovely , vibrant place. I would say overall I loved it as the food is delicious, the cocktails were great and the vibe was lively. There were a couple of downfalls.. When we first walked in and we were seated, we did have to wait a bit to be asked if we would like any drinks and what we were having for food. When we were approached, the staff were helpful so that was nice. The second thing I would say is , the tables were sticky as the menu was stuck to it and when the lady asked me to pass her the menu , it was stuck! The ladies toilet was OK with cleanliness but the floor was sticky in there also. Apart from these couple things (which are important) I have no faults. Great evening and service was good after all.

We were really excited to eat here after our local bodegas had closed some time ago and we had loved the food and missed it. Unfortunately, the experience was nothing short of horrific. I found a significant amount of what I can only hope was dishwasher salt in my wine glass after sharing half a bottle of wine. Our food took over an hour to arrive, and when it did after reminding staff, they served starters and main course all at once and forgot our side dishes all together. Some food was stone cold and everything else was barely warm. Some staff seemed more interested in talking to their friends/guests than serving other diners. The staff didn’t charge us for our shared starter for the delay and they were apologetic. But I feel the need to share this experience as it was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Such a shame. As they have some lovely dishes and recipes. But the service and organisation was so poor.

Disappointing Experience at Bodegaaa Birmingham Title: Not a Good Time at Bodegaaa Birmingham I visited Bodegaaa in Birmingham with my friends. The food tasted really bad, and we didn't like it. When I went to the bathroom, the water tap was hard to use, and my finger got stuck. It hurt a lot, and I told a staff member, but they ignored me. They just said sorry and walked away. My finger turned red and brown, which worried me. I was end up calling 111 because of blood infection or blood clotting. After that, my friend and I got sick. We've been throwing up for the last two days. The food made us feel really bad. I suggest not trying the food at Bodegaaa. This experience makes me not want to try new places to eat. I want to tell people what really happened, so they know before they go there.

We enjoyed an evening meal for five and picked Bodega Cantina due to their menu catering for meat eaters, vegetarian and gluten free which we had in our party. The menu had a really good selection for all of us and the food came out warm although it was a little staggered so we didn't all eat together. They were busy and we did find it hard to get the attention of the serving staff however, they were pleasant and helpful when we did speak with them. We look forward to visiting again.

They were surprisingly fully booked when I arrived at 5pm on a saturday evening and was told i would need to book a table for 7pm. It was somewhere I'd looked forward to eating at all week as the menu sounded nice and had they pretty good reviews so decided to make the booking to come back at 7pm. Went for drinks at a local bar to kill some time and got back for 7pm. They sat us right by the door which i wasn't happy about as was really drafty, was told they couldn't move us due to them having no other tables availalable. Was not happy with the service as they took about 1 hr 15mins to eventually bring out the food, no apologies received. Food was ok, nothing special and bit overpriced for what you get. They tried to overcharge for drinks once the bill came. Not impressed with experience dining here and doubt I'll be going back.

Generally decent. Atmosphere was brilliant, good music, decoration, no stone unturned. Service, was alright, staff were confident and patient, the lovely lady with light, short hair was very friendly and i wish we saw more of her, but everyone else was quite restrained and quiet, and didn’t really seem to smile. The food was pretty mediocre. A lot of it was just “warm”, cold spots, enchiladas didn’t really taste of much, just the re-heated frozen tomato sauce that went on top. Nachos were pretty boring and the churros had a lot of doughy spots where they were stuck together.

Bodega is (was) my favourite place to eat, however my recent visit left me very disappointed! I attended after the lunchtime rush, it was very quiet, but it still took a while for waiting staff to notice me and show me to a table. Then, I had to wait 15 minutes for my order to be taken. When my nachos arrived they were delivered to a couple sitting at another table. The couple sat and looked at the nachos for a while (talking over the food in the meantime). The waitress realised they were mine and gave them to me. I politely asked for a fresh plate, she obliged but returned 5 minutes later with the same nachos! They were not fresh. The nachos and mole chicken was very salty, too salty to eat. Also, the fake (liquid) cheese they have replaced the real cheese with makes the nachos soggy. I am sad to say the quality of food and service has declined terribly.

I'm not certain how I feel about this place after visiting it a few nights ago. The inside is a bit quirky, the tables are quite close together and it just felt slightly compact. The food was okay, just okay. The chicken Nachos we had for starters were really good, but we were slightly disappointed with the mains. I ordered a chicken and prawn curry. The prawns, sauce and rice were lovely, but the chicken was so dry I picked it all out and then ordered another portion of prawns to go with it. My husband ordered a burger, but it came in a wrap instead or a burger bun. He didn't enjoy it much. It's was just not very appetising. The staff all seemed lovely, but I'm afraid the food let the place down. Probably wouldn't visit here again. I definitely prefer Las Iguanas for this type of South American food.

All I can say is amazing………. The manager made me and my guest of 20 feel welcome even though we just turned up at the doorstep with no notice due to the poor service from FAT HIPPO NEXTDOOR. Good food and happy hour all day Sunday was a bonus. Loved everything and 20 people left happy and full. See you guys soon and keep up the good food drinks and service

Food was lovely. Have always wanted to try this restaurant, but the service REALLY let it down. Perhaps the worst dining experience I've had in Birmingham. The restaurant wasn't busy, yet there was a significant delay on our food. When our waitress was prompted, she dismissed my request to check on our order, claiming she'd already done so. Our food did eventually arrive, and the manager apologised, but it's not really a good look for a central city centre restaurant.

I was excited to visit when decided to go here for a team lunch, but was underwhelmed by the experience, lunch time was pretty empty but still very slow service, had to give our order to the bar staff as we couldn't find the waitress for ages, we only have 1 hour for lunch. Bar staff took the order wrong so then had to wait for replacements. They did offer to knock some of the food off the bill. Serving the tacos without a plate I found weird. Nachos were very nice. overall disappointing experience though

Disappointingly slow service on a Monday evening. Staff ignored us for over 40 minutes, only taking our order when we waved them down. Food was tasty when it came, but the whole visit was soured by the staff who were distracted on their phones or talking to each other, oblivious to some tables giving up and walking out. Visited today, service was amazing my server was very kind. We ordered from Halal Menu, Chicken chicharonnes, beef birria tacos and chicken mole taco. Portion sizes are very small, the sharing platter chicharonnes was hardly enough for 2 people and was not seasoned well, chicken had a slight odour, even in the chicken taco which was too small considering its price. the beef tacos were much better. Also, the taco shells were soft (not crunchy) The drinks here are amazing, we got virgin pina colada and hummingbird. the drink size was good and tasted amazing.

Really nice atmosphere in the evening. Staff were kind and welcoming. However both drinks and food took longer than average to arrive. Tip: order the tacos as a side they are incredibly small and the menu describes them as a handful (combined) in fairly small print. The other food looked delicious and the price was a little on the pricey side however it would have been worth it if myself and my partner did not make the mistake of ordering the smallest thing on the menu .

Visited with a friend. Baja fish tacos were particularly great. The fish was tender and the tempura batter was light and crunchy. One the fish dishes we shared was a bit spicy for me but flavours were really good (we chose moderate spicy, I knew that it was going to be spicy for me but my friend was fine with it so no complain at all). We were in a hurry but the food arrived very soon. Overall, very satisfied.

I've been going to Bodega ever since it first opened. I was left majorly disappointed with my Takeout last night. My house nachos was missing the Salsa, Sour Cream and Guacamole which is what makes them nachos! My Halloumi burger was missing the Slaw and some of the fries were undercooked. I called to make the order and spent £20/21 which was a waste of money!. Unfortunately your website doesn't have a contact address so I've had to write a Google review. See photos attached

This is the best Mexican (adapted) food that you can have in Birmingham. I've been multiple Bodega destinations and the food is constantly good between them. The staff on this particular visit were very attentive despite it being a busy Saturday night - and made us aware of the wait on food so that we could order more drinks and nachos accordingly. I would recommend booking in advance as this is a really popular place in one of the most popular central streets in Birmingham. Also ,the fish tacos are off the hook!

The food was good here, and the cocktails we tried were pretty good as well. Price was about usual for eating out anywhere, and service time was also about average. Not fast but not egregiously slow. We did have to call for service every time we needed it though, and since we sat by the bar we saw both the bartender and the servers touching the straws with bare hands on nearly every drink - one after the other.

Writing it as a feedback to help with their food. We ordered two things in the menu, the lime we were given was dry for the tacos, we had to ask for fresh ones. The nachos and the tacos needed more seasoning as they tasted flat. The price were a bit too high for both and given the taste, it wasn't nice. However the atmosphere and service was good.

Pork enchiladas w/ spicy rice and skin on fries were very good and the passionfruit mocktail was nice too. Also they kindly wrote out well done in the chocolate sauce next to my churros because I was celebrating my graduation

We went around 3.30 (had to book a table in advance) and the restaurant was fairly empty but it was buzzing by the time we left. I got the mushroom and sweet potato burrito and it arrived lovely and hot, was well seasoned but i got the hot which wasnt as spicy as i thought it would be. Lovely drinks ans atmosphere, and the happy hour was well appreciated

Awful evening. Uninterested staff, slow service. We had to go to the bar twice to ask for drinks and food. Manager wouldn’t solve poor service issues even after bringing them to his attention. Just awful dry basic food and half cocktails. Ridiculous place trying to be a relevant city centre restaurant. Rubbish

Amazing food and vibes. It was busy so service was slow but the waiter was lovely and friendly. The tacos are the best Mexican I have had in the UK. The drinks were delicious. The vegetarian tacos were really nice! Which is something you don't often get. Have recommended to friends and will be back!

Gone very downhill. Food mostly reheated and not fresh tasting. Huge disparity in portion sizes. Took ages for food to arrive. 25 minutes after ordering we were advised one dish wasn't available. The restaurant was quiet, only two other tables to serve.

Had a great evening, so much choice for cocktails, Aaron was a pleasure to have serving us, so friendly and knowledgeable on all drinks and recommended some incredible cocktails. 10/10 would recommend and will be back very soon! Thank you Aaron! ☺️

Good decor and atmosphere. Special mention must go to the house nachos at the start and the churros at the end, which were especially good! Came during 'happy hour' which turns out to be all Sunday, and had some very nice cocktails at 2 for £10.

Lovely food and friendly staff, we did get put downstairs which felt like being in a cellar. Cold and not much atmosphere but would return again if we could sit upstairs.

Really tasty food, here for a friend's birthday, the staff were really nice and friendly even though they were clearly stressed and stretched as they were busy and people before it's were saying they had to wait ages, but to be fair we pre booked and the food arrived quickly and our was great! Went for a team lunch. The place is nicely done out but the service wasn't great. Food came out at different times so some were finishing before others had theirs. It took 45-60 minutes to arrive which is no good when lunch breaks take that

We were in a big group of 20 and they were able to accommodate us without issue, taking the downstairs area just for us which was really nice. The staff were also excellent and were very fast with service. Considering there were so many of

Restaurant half empty yet not taking a walk in. Oh and their hot drinks machine is broken. Staff couldn’t be more pleased to turn us away. Congrats on having such a successful business you only need a half full restaurant!

Been to the Bodega a couple of times now and the while service can be a little slow, the food is generally good. Very odd recent recent experience though when the server took down our order incorrectly and refused to replace the incorrect

I’ve been here many times but todays visit felt underwhelming. I pretty much always get the burrito and the way it was cut just made it impossible to eat. The food quality itself was really tasty but I know how to eat a burrito and todays
