Disappointed and Frustrated: A Dystopian Tale of Poor Communication and Poorer Customer Service at Booktopia I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Booktopia, and I must say, it was nothing short of disappointing and frustrating. From the very beginning, their lack of communication left me feeling neglected and uncared for as a customer. Firstly, I placed an order for a print-on-demand book and eagerly awaited a confirmation email or at least a notification that my purchase was being processed within the promised 12-15 business days. But alas, silence was all I received, apart from an order status “in progress”. Days went by without any updates, and I found myself constantly checking my inbox, hoping for a response that never came. It's as if they had no interest in keeping me informed about the status of my order. When I finally decided to reach out to their customer support for answers, I was met with a fast but meaningless email response saying “We’ll get in touch with you as soon as possible.”, leaving me in the dark and questioning whether my inquiry was even acknowledged by anything other than a computer. Furthermore, the responses I did receive were automatically generated, paraphrasing my original queries, reflecting my words back with added generic and insincere phrases like, “If there’s anything else you need to let us know be sure to respond to this email". However, actions speak louder than words, and their lack of attention to my concerns screamed the opposite as simply a feeble attempt to mask their incompetence and lack of staff. Their live chat Booky Bot is equally ineffectual. The whole experience felt like they were just trying to appease me with meaningless emails that would make up for their lackluster service. After a month I opened a dispute through PayPal to get my money back. I understand that businesses can encounter challenges, but effective communication and transparency are paramount when dealing with customers. Booktopia failed miserably on both fronts, and as a result, they have lost a once-loyal customer. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Booktopia to anyone seeking a reliable and customer-oriented online bookstore. My encounter with Booktopia left me disillusioned and disappointed. Their poor communication and meaningless responses only confirmed my decision to take my business elsewhere. Save yourself the headache and frustration by avoiding Booktopia altogether.

Upon ordering a book was listed as being in stock and delivery within a few days, as I needed it for my son for school this seemed to be a good option to purchase online. After waiting over 2 weeks and no book received, I contacted Booktopia via the chat pop up and was told "I've flagged this with our Distribution Team to investigate further and resolve", 10 days later contacted chat again and was told that Booktopia hasn't sent the book yet. Changed to express post, another week later, still no book. Booktopia indicating "Australia post delays". After checking in person at Australia Post I was informed that Booktopia have only scanned the documentation and still haven't sent the book. Australia Post emailed Booktopia indicating that the case was closed. No updates from Booktopia. Called Booktopia and they believe the order has been lost. They suggested a refund as the Book would still take at least a week to get to me via express post. Such a disappointing experience, never again will I purchase from Booktopia. I now have to buy the book somewhere else. I would give them zero stars if possible.

Their prices can be quite good but I keep having problems with them delivering items when they said they would. Too many times now I have ordered something that either is currently showing in stock or has a date listed for when it will be in stock only for it to not come at the time stated and taking months. Many times for Christmas or Birthdays I have ordered something well in advance but it has not come in time. The latest item was stated as coming in at October 16, however on November 17 I wrote to them asking what was happening as I had still not received the book and there had been zero communication from Booktopia to that point. They replied to my query stating they were STILL getting stock in and a "rough estimate" was the second week of December. That is far too close to Christmas for my liking since they have proven time and time again to be unreliable, so I have cancelled the order and now I have to wait for a refund. I was able to easily get the book elsewhere. They have lost me as a customer as this has happened too many times.

I am still waiting for my books after 4 weeks. I have been a customer for over eight years and in that time I have placed 55 orders with Booktopia and I have always been a satisfied customer until now. The order I am waiting on is my biggest yet and has cost me almost $300.00, such has been my faith in this company. I am reluctant to give up on them but I haven't had any updates giving me hope that my order will be posted. My concerns are growing and I am very disappointed with Booktopia. The warehouse move shouldn't have led to this sorry situation. ● Update 13th August, 2023 After posting the review above, I contacted Booktopia, and they sent six of the nine books at top speed. I am still waiting for three books I ordered on 23rd June. I will contact them again in the hope I will receive these three books. The sad dilemma for me is I have other books I want to order, but I can't trust Booktopia any longer. Will their situation improve? Recent reviews indicate that the problems with Booktopia continue.

I am beyond frustrated and angry with this company. I preordered what was advertised as a sprayed edges edition of Iron Flame, only for the listing to be updated a few weeks after my purchased of $55, edited and made a standard edition. Not only did they used a sprayed edges image to begin with, but they did not inform me of the change. If I didn’t look again after a few weeks of placing my preorder, it would have turned up on my doorstep as a standard copy. I contacted them, but didn’t get an apology. They simply stated that the supplier ran out of stock before they were given any. Why would you advertise something that you don’t even have reserved for you, taking pre orders and then sneakily changing the description and photo to just a standard one and not telling anyone that had placed an order prior to this change? Standard hardcover copies are going for $35. It is an absolute joke, they had the audacity to sell something before having the reserved stock for them. So, so wrong. Be careful.

Apparently Booktopia is in the process of relocating but that doesn’t explain why an order expected to be received nearly a fortnight ago and given tracking detail is yet to leave their store. (well it actually does because I just did an online search and some interesting documentation come up). I ordered in October an item indicated as leaving a supplier within a week. Nearly a month later the item is showing as shipped but tracking says not yet collected into the delivery network. I contacted their chat service and yet to receive a response. Please check recent Trustpilot reviews before ordering. With current Black Friday sales and Christmas approaching I would be considering ordering from elsewhere. Not recommended - Booktopia, it would appear, is not placing value in providing any service at the moment. Relocation process should not compromise customers processes…however, further research indicate financial and federal issues.

After 4 weeks I asked for a refund and ordered the same books from Amazon. June 26th I ordered some books for my sons birthday on July 24th. On the same day I received an email saying my order had been processed and all item were in stock. 10 days later I received another email saying the business was moving warehouse and there would be a delay on the order. I would've assumed that 10 days was enough handling time to have it sent anyway. On July 10th I contacted customer service and asked where my order was and again was told about the warehouse move and that my order would be sent in the next week. July 17th I contacted customer service again and they said there was no guarantee when my items could be sent but could offer express postage or a refund. I cancelled the order and took the refund and repurchased the same books at a cheaper price from Amazon Australia.

  • Meils Postlewaight

Waited 2 months for my order to be delivered even though 3 of the 5 books I had ordered were apparently "in stock". Actually getting a response from their "customer service" is like pulling teeth. It took 3 attempts of contacting customer service before I received a response where a moving of warehouse was the cause of delay, no actual update of when my order would be shipped. Items shouldn't be listed as "in stock" and "ships in 1-3 business days" if there are expected delays going on. I have been ordering from Booktopia for years and over the last year at least, the customer service and delivery time frames have become terrible. Why would I order from them again when I can buy the same items from Amazon at a cheaper price and know it will be delivered (for free) within 2 days. Very disappointing as I have always wanted to support Australian businesses.

Summary: fast shipping, there is a chance your book may be damaged. However still better than Amazon. I will order if not available at my local book store. - first 3 books arrived in a box, they were bound together with paper however they slightly damaged as they were bouncing around in the box. - second one came in good condition in a cardboard sealed envelope. - third was also shipped in the cardboard envelope however came damaged while the packaging wasn't damaged. It seems like it had either been returned or sitting on a shelf for ages (but they took 2 weeks to order the book, shouldn't it be new?) and also looked like it had been dropped on it's corner crushing about an inch of the corner and it's pages. There was also something that looked like glue on the spine that I can't remove. Pity because this was quite an expensive edition.

There is nothing Booktopia doesn’t have. I’ve bought quite a few books from here over the years, but more so recently due to resuming study. A lot of books are back order, pre order or just lengthy handling times, but these are clearly indicated & understandably dependant on suppliers as well. I’ve found them consistent from order to arrival every time & have never had an issue. I have often had my orders delivered in different parcels as any book on hand is sent straight away, or as soon as they’re in stock or received & they have always kept me updated on status via email. There may come a time in future I have to order elsewhere if l require more urgently, but otherwise Booktopia is my number one go to for everything I need & has not let me down so far. I highly recommend them.

  • Erica

Waited 8 months for my Elden Ring Vol 2 book to arrive after multiple publishing delays. It finally arrived yesterday, but was poorly packaged; it just had thin plastic wrap around the book & was loose in cardboard packaging, no bubble wrap at all. There was some damage at the bottom of the spine and bottom of the front cover. If it had cushioning in the package this could've been prevented. Disappointed as I'm a regular customer of theirs & haven't had any issues with the condition of the other books that I've bought. This hardcover was expensive & a very long wait. Volume 1 was in better packaging. Unsure if I'll be getting a replacement as this book is no longer available on Booktopia at this time & I don't wish to wait for who knows how long for it to arrive.

  • Jess Chadwick

Preordered a special edition box set on 24th September, release date 26th October. Contacted them on 14th November after zero updates on shipment, was told they were waiting for them to arrive from the supplier. Next day I receive an email saying that the stock is no longer available from the supplier so they’ve cancelled and refunded my order (this is now completely sold out everywhere so I can’t even order anywhere else after waiting all this time). They stated the item has been removed from their website since it’s unavailable, however it’s still there and apparently available for back order with no specified time frame so who even knows what’s actually going on. Massive disappointment, won’t be ordering through Booktopia again.

  • Rachael Dean

Incredibly disappointed with my latest experience. I still haven’t received my books that are in stock after nearly three weeks. After calling the customer service line I was told that they were moving warehouses and were having issues accessing their stock but I was assured I would have my items by the end of the week. After still not turning up I called again to be told the same story. I have since been refunded and won’t be purchasing through Booktopia again. To be fair I will say the people I have spoken to from the customer service team have been lovely and I can tell they have obviously been inundated with complaints due to this issue. The company should have notified purchasers of potential delays at the time of purchase.

  • Lita Cheng

It's unacceptable and disgusting for the delay on delivery without any notice. The books were despatched more than two weeks after placing the order. Worst than that have received tracking number from AusPost, but for how bad luck, the delivery was delay until again nobody know when. I really doubt if the books have ever picked up by AusPost in the first place. If you're buying school books, better not getting them from here. It's the worst experience ever to buy a physical books after years without getting one. My order was $500 with paid delivery fee. It's a lot of money. My school term is almost in the middle now, exam coming soon which means I won't have enough time on reading for my assignment and exams.

  • Tracey Lum

Booktopia states "aims to ship 1-3 business days", is not the case. After calling the lovely call center lady, she described it can be different shipping times for international or 'other countries'! In total, if arrives when stated, it will be 1 ½ weeks, but still unsure as they haven't packed all my books yet? I placed the order 6 days ago but discount 2 as I ordered on a Saturday. I say a week and a half because the books aren't packed, may* not be ready for shipping until tomorrow and then 3 days for shipping. If you rely on these books for study, take into account, you can't rely on their shipping time-frame. Also I think it's deceiving that they state 'aims to', which gives them leg room.

  • Donna Yow

I’ve always ordered from Booktopia before though this time I’m so shocked that’s it’s taken so long for one book to be delivered. This book was for my sons birthday and I ordered this well in advance and it’s in stock. Paid for the book,no book delivered. Sent a few emails to Booktopia no response. Tried to call them, put on hold forever. I’m so disappointed and I’m not sure if I’ll ever order from this company ever again. Took my money though no goods. This company is a joke and obviously don’t care about their customers. I was a loyal customer, not anymore. Take my advice please don’t order any books!!! Take your money so easily & don’t deliver the goods! Disgusting!

  • Emma-Louise

Years ago I was a lover of booktopia and the service they provided. I'm not sure what changed but a book I ordered previously took 7 weeks without delivery and being told it would be on its way but it never was. I had to cancel that order. Fast track to now and I thought I'd give booktopia another chance. It's now been 5 weeks, I've spoken to customer service 3 times and was told each time, they would find out why my books are sitting at the warehouse but not being sent. I still have not received the follow up that's been promised each time. I just want the books I paid for, that have been sitting in the warehouse for over a week.

  • Yvonne Andrews

I ordered 3 child books on 14th July, it took 3 weeks for 2 of them to arrive ( Melbourne surrounds). 3rd book I've been told has arrived their warehouse from supplier, (I was not made aware it wasn't in stock or I would not have ordered it), is currently ready to be packed, will be mailed out either end of the week or early next week.. a tardy service in my opinion. Tried to contact them via the Web site, no person ever contacts me regardless of what the BOT messages. So it's on the phone for updates, no emails with info received. Staff are very helpful but the service to get the goods out of the door lacks speed.

  • Chantelle Hosking

I ordered a book over a month ago that was said to be “in-stock.” I reached out to their customer support trying to find out where my book was and was told that it’s on back order and I would have to wait at least another month for a “concrete timeframe.” I told them that I felt as though that was false advertisement and that it should’ve been clearly stated on their website. The representative then started abusing me saying that Booktopia doesn’t “false advertise” even though I had no notices or emails of the back order and that my book was definitely on its way. Thumbs down Booktopia. Absolutely heartbroken.

  • Kimberlee Thompson

I’m not usually this person but I ordered my text books over 3 weeks ago now, contacted them a week ago to see where they were as I need them for an assessment that is nearly due that I need one of them for, they told me Monday this week. Still haven’t been shipped and it is now Friday have contacted them 3 times this week to be told they will now ship them next week maybe if they can the other 2 times I’ve heard nothing from them. I tried to express how important my textbooks are because I am now 3-4 weeks behind in reading for uni and nothing is being done, I was just dismissed and I’m very disappointed

  • Chris Hastie

Ordered back on the 21st of June and still have not received my items. Informed 15 days after ordering that they are moving warehouses and there would be “minimal” delay. Customer support rep lied to me on both 8 July and 21 July that my order would be dispatched by end of the week. The website shows me that my items are awaiting picking and a few are now out of stock. I was provided an $9 refund for postage which isn’t helpful when I still have not received any books. Complaints have now been made to the Office of Fair Trading. I’d recommend anyone else experiencing an unreasonable delay to do so too.

  • Deborah Waxman

First (and likely last) order.Very poor attention to wrapping such that first book arrived water damaged. no waterproofing to packing. Told that it "doesn't rain in Australia (Sydney)" so do not consider same. Second arrival despite assurance would attend to waterproofing or better wrapping, arrived in same/identical packing but thankfully wasn't raining on delivery day. Would now make me think twice about reordering anything through this company again if they don't alter packing practice. No compensation or voucher offed for disappointment/inconvenience caused.

3 out of 4 books were delivered quickly & as described. I placed the order on 2nd Nov. Received an email saying my last book will be ready on 14th Nov. On 13th Nov, I received another email to say the book is out of stock with supplier until 19 Dec. Why not just say this to begin with? Why take my $58, pretend its available then push it out until a week before Christmas which is when the supplier, not me, will have it? Dodgy. It took 4 emails back & forth to get a refund. I'm now scrabbling to find the book before Christmas Day.

  • Drew G

Every time I purchase through Booktopia, I say “Never again!” I used to purchase all my books through their website as their service used to be fast and convenient, however their service has become progressively slow to the point where I have now been waiting almost a month with no progress/update on the order of two books I purchased for a gift and no reply to my inquiry about said order. Booktopia needs to be more transparent about their expected delivery times. Very disappointing. I will go to a book store in the future.

  • Nik Pearsall

Terribly slow with orders. Don't rely on Booktopia for University course texts, as you'll likely receive them towards the end of your subject. Update: After waiting 5 weeks for a book that was supposed to ship in 14 days, I emailed several times. No response. After ringing, an employee told me they would look into it, and call me back. 3 days later, I logged onto my account to see my order was now cancelled. I rang again only to be told they had now cancelled my order - for some reason without notifying me. Never again.

  • Drew C

I ordered a book from booktopia and it too approximately 2 weeks to ship to new Zealand From Australia the tracking said it was delivered but I did not recieve it so I contacted them to query this and was told they won't do anything because their tracking shows its delivered. Thankfully I used My credit card and was able to request a charge back from my bank. If you have to buy from these guys make sure you pay via credit card so you can at least contest the transaction. Better still don't buy from them at all

  • Bridget Aitchison

While great for ordering fiction/ anything you don't need urgently I have had consistent problems with textbooks. Multiple times I have placed orders only to follow up 2-3 weeks later with support to find out they can’t be ordered or their stock needs to be “investigated” (things I feel should be communicated to the customer ). This has led to be having to refund the order, wait for the funds to be returned, and frantically trying to order from another provider. Would not recommend.

  • John Trezise

Hopeless. Sometimes the shortcomings of an organization are only exposed when something goes wrong. Certainly the case here. Shipper lost the order between collection and dispatch from their depot (Australia Post). AP would take no action for 3 weeks then advised it was lost. Contacted Booktopia and got auto response. No follow up. Tried again a week later, auto response no action. Tried to call ... 20 minute queue. So a month later book not received and no evidence of action.

  • Jo Powell

Twice I've had to wait over 2months for my orders and have to keep chasing up. I keep getting the same email response from their customer service, Jay. I've ordered a lot of expensive text books through them and they don't have the courtesy to send an email when books won't be able to be dispatched in the timeframe. Or at least personal email instead of copy and pasting the same email that was sent 2 weeks ago. So disappointed as I was happy to support a local business.

  • Rodrigo Diaz

Surprised by all the fast delivery reviews. Ordered over 2 weeks ago for stock that says ships in 2-4 days and order still hasn't been picked. Told Monday it would definitely ship this week and it hasn't. I understand you're moving warehouse, however, this was notified 10 days after ordering and isn't something that would have just been decided. Would have been in the pipeline for months. Make it more easy for Amazon to win and harder to support Aussie biz.

  • Megan Drummond

I ordered a set of books that were then posted one at a time. I currently have 2 out of the 5 and delivery was meant to be months ago. I have now had another notification that the book that was going to be delivered Wednesday (26/7/23) will now not be delivered until mid August! When contacted they said I can send them back when I get them if I want a refund. Horrible delivery times. Horrible customer service. Will never order from them again!

  • Kepp Tow

DO NOT BUY. I purchased some in-stock books with an estimated 10 days to deliver, it has been 20 days and they have not shipped my order. They have refused to refund me unless I return the books which they have NOT yet sent me??? If you buy anything be prepared to raise a complaint with your state's consumer affairs for not delivering a product within a reasonable time. Terrible practices, terrible communication and terrible customer service.

  • HM Crezee

I ordered a book for a friend in Australia and chose Booktopia - very happy with my choice, as they kept me informed as to the process (packing, in the mail, delivered when and where) throughout. They also very thoughtfully offered the option of delivering the parcel to a Post Shop in case recipient had a letterbox that would not be able to accommodate a parcel. The parcel was delivered very promptly and of course I was informed immediately.

  • Barney C

I ordered three books. One was listed is being in stock, the other two as "Aims to ship within 8-10 business days." In the end it took over a month for them to ship those two books, and communication was lacking throughout, with updates only provided when I lodged queries. I won't buy from them again. They're just sourcing books from elsewhere, possibly even overseas, while giving wildly inaccurate delivery time estimates.

  • lauren wright

Terrible. First time I've ever ordered from Booktopia - and never again. I placed an order a month ago, and still haven't received my books. Apparently, they're moving warehouse which is the cause for the delay. However, I've been told every week for the past three weeks that the books will be shipped within the week. Yet they still haven't been shipped...? All round, worst experience I've ever had with an online business.

  • Carolyn Cooke

I have bought many text books from Booktopia for the degree I am currently studying. They stay in constant connection, advising where my order is in the system. I ordered a relatively expensive book and then was given it as a gift. There was no issue in cancelling my order, and at my request, my credit is left at Booktopia for my next order. Always excellent service and books are recieved in sturdy packaging.

  • M R

The purpose of being able to download an ebook is to access it right away… 24hrs later still no ebook. Then when I finally found out how to get in contact with Booktopia as their website “Booky bot” is useless, the customer service rep tells me that the order will take a further few hours to process the order!!!! You’ve just caused me more headaches then I needed, a big fat never again from me

  • Kylee Netting

Wish I read these reviews before purchasing but as I've happily brought from Booktopia before I didn't hesitate. Same experience as others, placed 2 orders all books in stock. One order completed as expected, still waiting for the second. Told about warehouse move, promised express shipping & still waiting. Phone & chat customer service is helpful but nothing happens from here. Buy elsewhere.

  • Kathryn Arnett

Surprised by all the fast delivery reviews. Ordered over 2 weeks ago for stock that says ships in 2-4 days and order still hasn't been picked. Told Monday it would definitely ship this week and it hasn't. I understand you're moving warehouse, however, this was notified 10 days after ordering and isn't something that would have just been decided. Would have been in the pipeline for months.

  • FR Hill

Zero customer service. Ordered a book months ago, it said stock would be arriving on a certain date, which came and went. Was many weeks later when they finally sent it regular post. it's been lost in the mail system for several weeks now but Booktopia haven't answered any of my emails to customer support about it. I will have to do a Visa chargeback. Never giving them my business again.

  • Simon Holmes

Buy with caution. First purchase was fine but second purchase no delivery after more than 12-15 business days. Order made July 13th and now August 9th no courtesy of replies even to three contact attempts (two by email and one by their online assistant) since 7th August to find out where my order is/how my money was spent. Very disappointing, now bordering on being ripped off.

  • Kadie Alexander

Don't order from here unless you want it to go into a black hole. My order has been sitting with the only update saying "Tracking number allocated to parcel" for 12 days now, and all the terrible support chat could tell me was that I have to wait an additional week for any update from their shipping company. 19 days total for *any update* on a >$100 order is terrible service.

  • Marita Ansell

Ordered books on the 24th June & said in stock to ship in 2-3 days.....as of the 19th of July nothing other than status of order is waiting to be picked. Rung 3 times & each time the same story of delays due to warehouse issues & it will be picked this week....still not picked! They were happy to take my money 4 weeks ago but not ship the books. Would not use them again.

  • JASON GARCIA

Couldn't submit a no star so one was the only next choice. Disappointed to say the least, never again use this sub standard company. Couldn’t update my order after any many weeks or is that months now Don't reply to emails so why have email?! Hopefully a review may trigger some action? And paid for gift wrapping which consists of a cardboard box.

  • Jesse Greenslade

I recently had the misfortune of dealing with Booktopia, and I cannot stress enough how utterly disappointed I am with their abysmal customer service, lack of communication, and atrocious delivery timeframes. My experience with this company has been nothing short of a nightmare. Do not order anything from them as your books will never arrive.

  • TheMadPyrotechnic

I have bought a lot of manga and books from booktopia and only now after 3 years had I received a slightly damaged book. Talked to the customer service and within 3 hours they got back to me, asked for some photos and then asked if I want a refund or a replacement. Shout out to Teodoro for helping the whole time, absolute legend. …

  • Aneesa Machin

My go-to for book shopping!! I've ordered a few times from here, and I've been very happy with each experience. Orders are processed and shipped super quickly, and my books always arrive in perfect condition. They take care to securely package their orders, which I REALLY appreciate! I will absolutely buy from here again and again!

  • Nicki W

Really disappointing! I pre-ordered and PAID for Sam Neill's SIGNED autobiography 'Did I ever tell you this?'. Around the release date I got contacted by Booktopia telling me that they could not supply a signed copy, only a regular copy which I did not want. No one else in Australia had signed copies so I missed out. Very annoyed.

  • Mish P

I had to chase Booktopia up about a Uni textbook I purchased for exams, only to wait weeks for it never to arrive and find out that they don't even have it in stock. I organised a refund over 10 days ago and now have to follow up again to get my money back. They can't fulfil what they promise, a book or a refund. Frustratiing.

  • Kate Duncan

I've been waiting 25 days for my books that I've ordered with 2-4 day shipping. Your excuses of moving warehouses is not my problem and the total lack of communication is astounding. I purposely didn't buy from Amazon as I wanted to support an Australian business. Do yourselves a favour, buy from Amazon, I will be from now on

  • SohailSiddiqui1961

I ordered a textbook urgently needed by my daughter for her assignment. All other vendors were taking at least 3 weeks to deliver. I put a note when ordering if explaining the problem. Booktopia delivered it in within 3 days keeping in view my request. That’s unheard of service. Thanks Dr Khawar SOHAIL Siddiqui Sydney

  • Emimz Marty

I have ordered many times in the past from Booktopia and was always pleased. This time around however my order is painfully slow to arrive. It has been a month now and some of the books still haven't been shipped. I messaged customer service a week ago for an update and still waiting for a response. Not good enough.

  • Dhanniya Morton

Got mucked about with my order. I had to keep following them up on the status and when I could expect shipment and after over 3 weeks they could not confirm where my order was, if it had been shipped or when it would arrive and resulted in me asking for a cancellation and refund. Waste of time, would not recommend

  • leanne a

Bad communication with customers, several unanswered emails sent regarding delivery information. One book turned up weeks late with no information about the other book's delivery dates. No apology, nothing. I tried the live chat, pffftt! I will never order anything from them ever again. Appalling online service!!

  • K Robertson

Tried to use the contact form to enquire about the likely delivery date of a long unfilled order but the form freezes after content has been inserted and can't be sent. This is, of course, one of the oldest complaint reducing tricks around. Very disappointing from a company I've previously been delighted with.

Update...australia post had lost my book, great costumer service, they send me a replacement and I received it yesterday. Ordered a book for the first time to see how long it takes to process it in comparison to the book depository, I ordered it a month ago and I'm still waiting for it. Not good at all

  • Siuati Fuimaono

Loves my bibles i ordered. Very easy to navigate thru the website and also coms after the purchase was on point too. I was notified of when my order was ready and picked up too. I had an issue with my first order, this was rectified straight away when i notified the team. Would buy again from them

  • manacrew

The packaging is fantastic. They really go the extra step to ensure the safety of your order during delivery which I really appreciate. No dings or nicks around the edges. Great pricing and a good tracking feature as well for knowing when your order ships. Will definitely use them again and again.

  • Stacie Miles

Everytime I make a preorder they either over sell their stock of just flat out cancel the listing. How hard is it to count stock? And how hard is it to for fill. It should not be up the customer to follow up and find out that there was never anything available for them. GOD I MISS BOOK DEPOSITORY

  • Robyn Young

Ordered books a month ago and still haven’t received them. When I called they were vague and had no answers, other than it should be there next week to be shipped. One book won’t be shipped for another 2 weeks! Ordered the books 6 weeks before Christmas and some will miss out. Very disappointing

  • Maria Restee Cobangbang

I ordered a textbook that is "on stock" and supposedly delivered after 3 days, only to find out that there is no stock and waiting for re-stocking. They did not even bother to notify that it will be delivered late not until I call to check on them. UNRELIABLE. Better not order if it is urgent!

  • Brittany Mcnabb

I definitely wouldn't ever purchase from Booktopia again. Ordered 2 weeks ago, have emailed twice to ask the eta, no response. Finally got dispatched on Tuesday and is yet to be collected by the courier. I'm going away now, so i'll have to wait a couple of months to get my package.

  • David Collins

Really wanted to support local. Purchase made over a month ago and was notified it was ‘shipped’. Still haven’t received it. Australia post told me Booktopia haven’t sent it yet. Can’t contact support via phone, webchat or email. Frustrating and don’t even know how to get a refund.

  • Russell Smith

Great business to deal with. Products are at a good price & freight to NZ is also very reasonable. Great communication from when the purchase is made right to the delivery process. If multiple books are purchased & delivery is split this is well done again. Highly recommended

  • Elspeth Morris

Booktopia made the purchase extremely easy and the book arrived in mint condition - thankfully in cardboard, not plastic wrapping - and very quickly. The company let me know what was happening with my order from the start. Very efficient and good quality stock to choose from.

  • Robyn Jay

Received my book in 3 working days in great protective covering communication top notch and service exceptional have ordered many books from this company and have never been disappointed. This is one of those online companies that’s a pleasure to do business with

  • Philippa Lane

The book that I ordered, freshly published, arrived very quickly from Australia, packed beautifully so that no damage could occur. It was also much cheaper than it would have been from a local bookshop. The price at those was such that I wouldn't have bought it.

  • The good the bad the dodgy

Damnnn the name’s a prefect fit what don’t they have. Thank you for helping me grow my book and deck collection. Great service, prices and deliveries in a timely manner. What more could consumers ask for…a business providing what they promise Simple! …

  • Allister Metherell

I bought a New Believers Bible for a young girl at church. The bible arrived on time and in good condition. The bible itself was ideal for this person. It had many commentaries and explanations about the bible texts which will help her to grow in her faith.

  • Katie Schmidt

My order never arrived. Order 10 items on the 14 June, which were in stock. Rang multiple times. Order still wasn’t sent. Now it’s on back order. So it will be longer. Only to get a meaningless sorry. Over a month later and cancelled my order. Time waster.

  • Clare Harvey

Always a great experience ordering books through Booktopia, easy to find items on the website and easy to purchase and order. The shipping is timely and quick and items always carefully packaged meaning the books arrive in excellent condition. Thank you!

  • Eimja Begg

I've found Booktopia an excellent place to buy books. They are delivered promptly, well packaged and you are notified each step along the packaging and posting process. I have no hesitation in recommending Booktopia. They have competitive prices too!

  • Jillian Reeves

Yes, my book arrived in good condition. Thankyou. And another got lost in transit, but I had no trouble sorting it out and spending my credit. Thanks very much for a very helpful person named Charles who was very obliging on the phone!!! …

Booktopia is a fab website full of books. It has some excellent value for money sales. We bought a cool kids book written by Celeste Barber for $3.95. Worth checking out this site. They also sponsor some kids reading challenges which is cool.

Journey of Souls is a must read for anyone who needs confirmation that we are here on Earth for a reason and struggles are all part of the Souls Process. Easy to read and Case studies are that great you cannot put the book down. Please read

  • Astha Pandey

I ordered my university Textbooks which arrived timely. I was skeptical after reading some reviews if my book would arrive within time for my college to start. However, I spoke to the customer care and expressed a request to have the order

  • Lucia Freire

bloody slow. It's been two weeks for an item in stock and has yet to be shipped. I'm obviously disappointed. Thank you to Jeff in customer service that said oopsie daisy, we'll get it out to you in 1 business days. We'll keep you updated !

  • Helena

This is my first experience shopping with Booktopia, I wanted to try them out instead of shopping on Amazon and to support a different company. I placed a backorder for one book and pre-ordered another on the 23rd of June. The first book

  • Dane Morgan

Sadly 9 days after ordering my item has only just now been dispatched. After receiving confirmation they had recently order 9 days ago and it was in status "ready to be picked" I am very disappointed that it took 9 days to pick 1 book.

  • Leeanne Clark

Booktopia is a great place to order from. In the past, I've found the items that I want have been cheaper than Amazon and because I'm a Qantas Frequent Flyer, I earn Qantas points when I shop. A double win as far as I am concerned!

  • Everybody Solo

Ordered a book from Booktopia on 29th May. It finally arrived 17th July after multiple emails and chats asking for information with generic responses. My favourite response was a very obvious copy and paste job. "Your order should

  • Kay Vee

Fast delivery, packed well, great price. I saved almost $25 buying from Booktopia as opposed to the bookshop at the airport. Fantastic book. The Running Grave by Robert Galbraith. I struggled to put the book down, it was gripping.

  • Danielle Falconer

Do not trust Booktopia's pre order system, they will take your money and leave you hanging. Could not be more disappointed in their service and delivery. 100% do not recommend, wish I had seen the other reviews before I ordered :(

  • Wali Fayazi

Taking ages to sort out single issue with send me replacement book! It’s more the 3 weeks now since I have requested the replacement of book the was damaged during post delivery I guess it will be my last purchase from this store.

  • Ryan F

When my book didn't arrive in the mail, I was informed that my parcel was lost and I should contact the bookseller for a resolution. Thankfully Booktopia offered to send another copy, no additional charge at all. Awesome service.

  • Brittany Engelbrecht

Booktopia shipping guides are irrelevant to the date that they send them out. They also are lacking communications skills in regards to order delays, refunds and stock issues. I have been disappoint on multiple occasions now .

  • Patrick Zuluaga

Extremely efficient service! Exactly what you would like for an online store! Next time you are looking to buy a book you should check them out. We bought a language related book titled "My Mob Sharing Language in Stories"

  • Kevin Clift

I bought two books, Grimms Fairy Tales and The Arabian Nights. Not only are these books in perfect condition, but they have covers that ensure they'll be standouts on the bookshelves. I'll definitely be ordering more.

  • shayla c

I ordered a four book series. While three of the books came in good enough condition as expected, the fourth book arrived with slight damage. The book is still readable, just a little disappointing in the quality.

  • Louise Collier

I received the book I ordered quite quickly. And it was very helpful to see it's progress through the postal service. I'm very happy with the customer service at Booktopia, and it is now my go-to site for books.

  • Carmel Loughland

Very happy with the speed of delivery and condition of the paperback. Booktopia indicates a much longer delivery timeframe than i experienced. I was delighted to receive my book within a few days of ordering.

  • anne maree mcdonald

Lovely people. One of my books arrived almost immediately, but the other two had big delays which I hadn’t realised when ordering. They were very kind and refunded them both back. Will definitely use again.

  • Chow Andreas

Booktopia is so good that I don't think I will go anywhere else to find the books I want without visiting them first. Nonetheless, it would be even better if the delivery fee could be cheaper.

  • Joe Poley

I've bought many times now from Booktopia. My books have always arrived in perfect condition due to careful packing, whether single or multiple books. I fully recommend this retailer.

  • Robyn Wood

I have found some hard-to-get books on Booktopia and they have arrived promptly and in good condition. Booktopia communicates very well also. This is my new go-to for book orders.

  • Justin Smith

Ordered a book over two months ago. Still don’t have a refund. Customer service sends ‘template we care’ type emails. Found the book $50 cheaper on Amazon. Don’t waste your time
