I oppose the so-called 'Clean Air Zone' you have put in place in Bristol, and I am speaking as an Environmental Science graduate who should theoretically be in favour of effective pollution-reduction schemes. This short-sighted ego project of the current mayor has caused an immeasurable amount of inconvenience and stress to the poorer residents of Bristol, and is an annoyance and disincentive for almost every visitor to the city. Far from reducing pollution, it has only succeeded in increasing the miles that polluting vehicles must drive to bypass the city. The effects on CO2 emissions are either negligible or actually positive (i.e. they have served to increase overall emissions), because drivers are now disincentivised from using the most efficient routes. Furthermore, those alternative routes now have more traffic attempting to pass through them, increasing traffic blockages and the number of idling vehicles emitting greenhouse gases. You have not reduced harmful NOx pollution either - only moved it elsewhere - for the same reason. Those who work in the city or must pass through it for work now face a daily fine of at least £9, or £45 per week. This may not seem like a lot to those privileged, overpaid, Tesla-driving councilors who pass down such decisions to the populace, but it is devastating to those who are already struggling under the burden of a cost-of-living crisis, whose only recourse is to buy an expensive newer vehicle or find a new home and new employment. What contempt for the most deprived citizens of Bristol! I will pay you one compliment though - your comic timing is impeccable. Implementing this right at the moment when people are struggling the most, having endured two years of lockdowns and prices skyrocketing everywhere? This is the moment you decide to introduce your vanity project? Hilarious. Nobody feels as though they have a voice on this matter. After waiting 75 minutes to speak to a human being, I was told that this absurd scheme is just how things are, and that nothing I said would make any difference. When I asked why first-time victims weren't given a grace period or written warning rather than being immediately fined, I was told that such a system was in place for six weeks, after which the Council changed rules to an immediate penalty. This is consistent with the Council's apparent aim of making all of its services progressively worse over time. This is a thinly-veiled money-making scheme for the Council. Penalising citizens for driving in the city before fixing the atrocious public transport system (which I have endured many times over the past 10 year) is a low-IQ move. Your scheme has decimated the city center more than the pandemic ever could. The place is dead now (you must be aware of this, having access to the data) and shops are closing at an accelerated rate because it's simply not worth people's time or effort to travel to them anymore. Many will think 'why should I support a city that transparently has contempt for me, and punches down at me on a daily basis?'. I used to be proud of living in Bristol, but the rot has been setting in for years now. It used to be a friendly, exciting and cool place to be. Congratulations - you have ruined it in so many ways, and you aren't even aware of the fact because you're too busy patting yourselves on the back. You should.. - Repeal the Clean Air Zone with immediate effect and write off any outstanding fines. - Issue an apology to the residents of Bristol who have been adversely affected by your scheme. - Fix the atrocious public transport system. More buses, better service, and absolutely NO cashless nonsense. I will not be refused entry for paying for my trip with a £5 note.

I parked my car in a parking bay .. couple days later I been informed that around my car placed notice that parking suspended. The day on the suspension is the same as they place suspension notice .. by the law you should inform public that you will suspend this bays and give some days to make sure people knows not for a day you just decide. I paying tax road and insurance that my car can be on public roads as long as I need not when you gonna tell me to move as you place that notice ... I may not around my car and will not be able to move and then you will be issue a fine for me ?!?! .. it's ridiculous.. how do you even allow that happen.. you work for people for a public not for a company's . That asked you place that notice and you not even look that parking space already occupied. I call yesterday to let you know and I been told to move my car anyway .. and if I move I will need to pay for a Clair air zone .. this Bristol city council is just a joke.

I have tried to contact the Council Tax Department (1/9/14) and this automated process must be the worst I have ever encountered. This is JUST NOT A CUSTOMER SERVICE under any guise. You cannot expect that people spend their lives on a telephone because you cannot be bothered to provide a service whereby you can (heaven forbid) actually speak to A REAL PERSON. I'm not sure I was brought in to this world to spend my life communicating with a robot. I always thought, as a civilised nation, you educated your children - taught them good manners - how to be polite - talk to people in a reverent manner and all those other good things that I thought the human race did. I wonder if I didn't bother paying my bill I would start receiving demanding letters where a telephone number was supplied and I could speak to somebody. PLEASE RE-VISIT THIS DREADFUL set up - poorest service ever (even the foreign service desks can do better than this!)

I'm not from Bristol, but travelled there following a sat nav to do some plumbing jobs for a customer 2 days in a row, 3 weeks later I had 2 fines through the door about the clean air zone. I was completely unaware of the clean air zone and the fact that I had gone through it following a sat nav. Without the sat nav i couldt find my way there.I have now received 2x £120 fines through the door. I find it very unfair and they are making a lot of money from people following sat navs because they dont know their way around Bristol. From what I have read its not ok to pollute Bristol city, but if you pay Bristol City Council a fee you can pollute it as much as you want.!!! Also the Mayor should be charging the airports for all the planes that pollute the skys above bristol.

  • Tom Reynolds

Paid the council tax always, and since 4 months my waste is not being collected, I contacted them many times and they explain that the issue was that I did not have bins, now I had been delivered bins (boxes) twice but still no collection. Each time I contacted them I've been reassured that next week will be solved, and still there we are without solution. Last call, which was today, seemed pretty good as the girl I spoke with was sounding honest and willing to solve the problem, the thing is I do not believe anymore that the problem will be solved... Will be nice to pay for a service and receive it.. Hopefully I will find out the procedure to ask for the refund of the 4 months..

  • andrew stanton

Finally I'm forced to speak out about the ABYSMAL Bristol City council ( small c ). mayor ( small m ) you're a token gesture. Increases in council tax for reduced services, a token cycle lane, USELESS, public transport many times not fit for purpose and now the former Grosvenor Hotel (derelict for 20 odd years ) goes up in flames again! A compulsory purchase order? Too little to late. Brunel must be spinning in His (large H) grave let alone His assistant Who designed the building. Pathetic. By the way marvin do you by any chance own a pair of red trousers and wear them with pride? To my Thousands of Followers, strong words typed with free speech. Andy, ST.GEORGE.

  • petertubey I lied with the police. play funny fun

I just phoned to try and get hold of equality because I'm getting a swimming eat against around Bristol with my disability so I want to try and read it with the City Council but not very helpful I'm getting a swimming eating against because of my learning disabilities in pubs around Bristol and clubs I want to try and raise awareness but they can't treat disable adults the way they do I'm trying to get hold of someone regarding disability matters and they say put you through to this person put you through to that person they got me through to a live really got me through to somebody else and I'm trying to get hold of someone regarding disability matters

  • Lewis Hodges

Have been waiting for a £180 refund for over 2 months now. Was told it would take 28 days to process. Phone lines always have over 10 people in the queue, employer understanably, wont allow me the time out of my working day to make this unnecessarily long call, have already received a warning for the call i did manage to wait and get through on. All they tell me on twitter is that there is a refund request but they can't tell me anymore because it breaks GDPR. Havnt replied to my email. Would go out of my way not to use any of their services again.

  • Jonny Green

Not allowing a little lenience on the new Clean Air Zone PCNs issued when residents make genuine errors is absolutely disgusting. As a resident and business owner in North Bristol, this scheme has really caused major inconvenience and alternative vehicles are not affordable to change to so quickly. This scheme will split the city in two and there are no worthy alternatives for those that are unable to cycle like myself. The transportation in this city is the worst thing about it. Apart from of course, Bristol City Council. Shameful.

  • Steven I

Tried to challenge unfair bus lane fines (the bus lane that was so poorly signposted it made the news, and they haven't yet improved the signs). Awful communication, generic impersonal reponses after having not actually read my complaint, pushing you off to a third party (then on hold for hours and told have to talk to council), want paper forms submitted (can't do over email), and the whole process takes months with no apparent accountability, or way to actually speak with someone about it.

  • Justin Potter

Like others, I was diverted through Bristol because of motorway closure and issues caused by the Glastonbury festival. We stopped and spent money with local business on the way through. I have now received a fine of £69! There were 4 people in my vehicle and not one of us noticed a single sign or warning regarding any payments required for driving on your roads. I’ll be sure to avoid Bristol in the future. The council doing a good job of destroying local businesses. Well done.

  • Tony Dredster

I drove through the city not knowing about the new eco clean air zone. Which I completely support! I later received a letter in the post that arrived late thanks to the Postal strikes. I paid the nominal fee as soon as possible. I was then issued with a £180 fine with CCJ and Bailiffs threats! How delightful I thought, very kind. So, I'm going to pay the money using my job, by doing over time making single use, plastic filters! Go get some eco warriors!! #moronic

  • Angela Cornick

Frustrated beyond belief - been trying all morning to speak to someone in the Council Tax Department - each time I have been on hold for over 45 mins. All I want to do is talk to a person - the automated services are horrendous - I want to pay my council tax bill but need to sort out problems first - it shouldn't be this hard to pay money to the council - even the operator was no help - has to go through the automated system - can I send you my phone bill please?

  • Jesse B

Received a parking fine in an area that I have parked in for years. Did not contain any yellow lines or was not remotely signposted to suggest parking was not permitted. I appealed the charge and did not receive a response for over 101 days where they rejected the appeal in contrary to the 28 days I am given to respond to them. Continued to send post to the wrong address and resulted in higher fines being incurred. Completely unreasonable, money thieves.

  • n

Poorly organised and refuse to admit any fault. The man I spoke to, Keith, was absolutely not interested in listening to anything I said. Have no idea what he's doing there as he seems to loath interaction with people calling up. I know councils are strapped and overworked but it felt like he was gagging for a fight. If you have any complaints then go straight to the ombudsman because these guys (Keith) absolutely don't care.

  • Claire Stevens

Was diverted through Bristol when the M4 closed, wasn't aware of the Clean Air Zone, didn't see any signs about it, and I've just now received a Charge Certificate for £189 (!!!) I had no idea this charge existed and had no choice about driving through Bristol and didn't receive the original Penalty Charge Notice. Can't get through to the Clean Air Zone telephone line to talk to anyone about this either.

  • Stitch

Liers and scammers, booked a bulk waste removal, confirmed several times if they'll be okay to take a carpet to which they said yes and then on the day refuse to take it. Customer service has a proper attitude and not interested in helping other than to read out t&cs over and over again like a robot. No help or advise given. No wonder bristol is turning into what it is with these fools running it.

  • PETER BOWER

Absolute scammers, I drove through Bristol, didn't know the layout, my sat nav told me to keep left, I unintentionally went in the bus lane [which was not marked] for no more than 50 yards & receive a £70 fine. If you pay straight away its £35, most people will do this because they don't have the time to fight it. As for the ULEAZ zone you can stick that where the sun don't shine a#sholes

  • Mehmet Yildirim

I have received clean air zone charge penalty on letter it says pay it in 14 days fine will be £ 60 which s paid had another letter 3 weeks later asking me pay another 229 pounds! phoned council many times reception was unhelpful transport team not answering the phone asking to reception manager or complait department all I did get No answer from reception complete rip off!!!!

  • Marius Cibakin

Bloody scammers, I paid a bus lane fine, after a year they came back and said that they didn’t receive the payment on time, after one year! Not the price went up x3 times and they keep milking people for money. Scammers with no brains at all. Oh best part!! To call to pay for the fine you need to pay for the phone line! Amazing right?

  • Anthony Morgan-Clark

£70 to accidentally stray into the CAZ at 11pm whilst trying to get home to Gloucester. Why not send the £9 fee and give people who've made an honest driving error the chance to pay the fee before stealing an extra £60? I'll be using Cardiff rather than Bristol from now on; Bristol has nothing to offer that Cardiff doesn't.

  • Shaun Edwards

What a joke to pay the clean air zone fee and still get charged then appeal it to get rejection letter with no reason why its rejected absolute scam to line your own pockets without putting anything back into the community to actually reduce emissions your olny solution is electric vehicles which are scam in themselves

  • Ian Brightwell

If you are new to driving in Bristol be aware of bus lane rules. Google will happily take you down roads where you are guaranteed to be fined. I got three in one day with maybe more coming! The problem with rental cars and camera fines is you can accumulate a lot of fines before you realise what you have done.

  • Robert Morgan

By far the most stupid and incompetent staff employed by any local authority in the world. Congratulations, I will be boycotting your city for the rest of my life. I will never ever spend a penny of my money in Bristol every again. They are a great example of how corrupt and criminal England has become.

  • Julie Moon

Bristol City Council will fine you £100 for having your dog off lead anywhere in Central Bristol. Even in the parks or on the grass of college green. They don't have adequate signage and if you point this out they don't care. Obviously another way of taking money off residents and visitors.

  • Graz D

Bristol city council as well as the mayor Marvin Rees have no problem with discrimination against people with disabilities, and actively continue to discriminate against disabled people. Roads around Bristol also continue to be dangerous for the disabled but they don't care about it.

  • Paul w

A beautiful area of Bristol with terrific views of some of the nicest buildings in Britain, a lovely place to sit! unfortunately let down by litter in the water, at least it makes a drinking pond for seagulls! come on council get a grip letting this beautiful city down!

  • Marielouise Whitley

Planners not fit for purpose . Outdated Slow response to fire safety issues Poor maintenance of unsafe buildings Slow response to replacement of cladding Non existent repair of potholes No street tree maintenance Disregard of risks to life

  • Adrian Nicholas

BCC. You should really be ashamed. Parking charges on meters till midnight ... 20mph zones where there's no real need for it. If you want to encourage visitors to Bristol make it visitor friendly don't rip people off at every chance ...

  • Joseph Taylor

Bristol is turning into a green air zone from 28th November 2022. This needs to be updated on Google Maps, as people with vehicles of a certain age will now be changed £9 minimum a day to travel in and around Bristol.

  • Chris Hill

Absolutely shocking council. All they are interested in is spending an absolute fortune on roads and not helping people at all.... more interested online paying bills and fines! Would give a 0 if I could have!

  • orla mccallion

I have been trying to resolve an issue for weeks. Council is ignoring it! Rubbish at Queens Court for in Bristol, backing onto my apartment. It is about to fall over onto my garden where I live with a toddler

  • Derek Pig

I didn't know there was a clean air zone, I'm from the north. I'd never been down there before. Then I have to pay these rich southerners £140. The money always flows one way in this country doesn't it.
