put £1.59 in coffee machine and it wouldn't take the 5p to dispence my drink girl on desk was hopeless I asked her to change the 5p for another one and she said I dont have any change here I asked how to get my money back out of the machine as my train had just arrived and she didn't have a clue. I think all staff should have some knowledge of the vending machines regardless of them belonging to the station or not

I work at the station. And!! I agree it hasn't been amazing in the past. But! The whole station is having major work. Disabled access is the main one. Ramps for easy access. Lifts!! At last. Public toilet. A new booking office. What use the booking office will be now,I'm not sure? They want to close ALL stations down and have ticket machines and the app. Sadly tho all to late.

Not exactly what I would call a pleasant station, even though services have been slightly improved with the introduction of electric trains. The platforms are a bit narrow, the subway looks quite grim and the platforms are accessible on each side but not to change between them. A ticket office and ticket machine is provided at least and parking is free which is a good thing.

When arriving home from Southport and having two single prams and myself not being that good. Their was no lift down no sign to say what to do if disabled and having prams etc so very p##### off had to carry prams down then up stairs my husband who has a very bad knee had to carry prams with baby's in ruined the end of our day. Left my bag there this morning due to commuting problems getting to the station. I was contacting work to let them know I was running late when my train arrived. I was able to call through and get them to hold my bag for me and when I returned, they recognised me and returned the bag, so obviously very pleased.

Because of the storm the lady said the next train wasn’t due until 10.15am which was a 45 min delay. However when I queried that the app said the 09.15am was actually arriving at 9.44am, she bluntly said I was wrong. No that you was you as the train did arrive then. Useless.

It's not a very good train station. The environment is not very clean, the directions are not very precise and there is nothing in terms of amenities per se. Access for disabled people is basically non-existant, and it comes off more as a "train stop" than a train station

After 6 years, we are still waiting for installation of lifts. The station has been a building site for most of that time - progress is slower than a Nothern Rail train. This causes a problem using the eastbound platform where a detour underneath the bridge is necessary.

Fun fact; it's the world's oldest actively operating railway station! Not so fun fact; it has zero measures to accomodate for disabled (or otherwise less abled) travellers trying to access the subway. Otherwise, it is simply a very barebones & serviceable station.

the board n the speaker put the wrong platform, it makes me miss the train even i was there very early. It also makes me late for work n everything. unacceptable

With works to improve the station the subway is closed and signage is inadequate. There's no ticket office to inquire or staff at the station.

Station is kept today enough. Might as well be unstaffed. COVID requirements not enforced.

Can't fault it, superb location and great views. Could easily spend 2-3 hours here

  • Henry Allum

A utilitarian railway station, steam trains pass through occasionally.
