Horrible! My significant other and I went in two weeks ago to try to obtain our marriage license. The staff was in a really bad mood, yelling at the customers (screaming), refusing to answer customer questions, etc. Annie (says she's the supervisor) called us to her window. We went ahead to tell her we were there to fill out the marriage license. She gave us a form, told us to go fill it out, then get in line again. Once we did so, she refused to accept the surname I had chosen (which is within the guidelines of option 4 in name change). After going back and forth about the name change, I gave in and told her I would keep my current surname. She then tossed our application aside and told us to "come back tomorrow and say you're in Monday's file". We went home and I literally read over and over the options to try to understand why I couldn't take my fiance's last name and drop my maternal last name. A couple days after that incident, I filled out the application online. We went in to the office around 12:30pm yesterday to confirm identity and make payment. The lady at the window (once again in a bad mood) said I couldn't take his last name. She didn't try to go over the options with us. Annoyed, she summoned for Annie to come take care of us. Annie sat and hurriedly said I couldn't do it because the application said so. I asked her to go over the options with me and specifically asked her to pay attention to option 4 where it states I can do a combination of his surnames and my surname as long as its hyphenated. She refused to listen and said that if I wanted to have his name, my new surname HAD to be my Paternal surname, Maternal Surname, HIS Paternal surname, HIS Maternal surname (4 LAST NAMES!) We bickered back and forth about the matter until I felt that again, I was left with no other options. I ended up keeping my last name as is. Someone tell me I'm crazy and that this is normal procedure. Because I haven't met anyone that has married and had to adopt all surnames, so I'm having a hard time processing all of it.

While this is supposed to be one of the exciting steps in your life, the Bronx County Clerks office makes sure its as dull as can be. Upon arrival to this gorgeous building, the court officers are super nice and so is the maintenance staff. Me and my fiancé must have gotten a dozen smiles followed by a dozen Good Mornings before we even got into the elevator to get to the ground floor. We arrived at the marriage bureau office 131 at around 8:40am and sure enough it was closed(multiple websites I checked said they are open from 8:30am-4:00pm) with about three people in line ahead of us. Doors opened at around 8:46am. We were all greeted with a energetic good morning and welcome to marriage bureau. The Good Morning was everything!!! however when we walked in the staff looked as if they were being tortured. Its Friday and you guys just opened! Liven up a little!!! We got called to the window, I said good morning and got no good morning back. We were asked for our social, ID’s and form of payment. Passports and birth certificates weren’t reviewed. If you want a better experience avoid this office. I gave them the 1 star because they cannot get anything less. I can say the process was quick but I expedited my own process starting the application online.

The staffs at the passport office in the Bronx city clerks office are unprofessional especially one Hispanic older woman with red hair. Her rudeness is beyond understanding and the false information she provides you and how arrogantly she presents the information it's beyond understanding. i went there to renew my kids passport,it was around 2pm, I was told the office was closed for the day.i said but I thought you close at 4pm,then this rude Hispanic older woman with red hair said to me, we have only 5 minutes to close and your daughter is 16yrs so she has to swore infront of clerk and the clerks are close so come another time. I didn't understand why my sixteen year old have to sworn infront of a clerk to renew passporr, when her parents are with her. I went another time and the unprofessional conduct shown by the Hispanic older woman and one black woman, it was unbelievable. Only in the Bronx something like that can happen in city clerks office.i wish these reviews people write gets into the right person to deal with these staffs .

I called to ask about the steps I should take when I won’t be living in the Bronx to serve as a juror and the “gentlemen” who picked up the phone was completely disrespectful. Firs of all he picked up the phone and hung up immediately and I could tell because I called once and no one answer the second time I called they picked up quickly and hung up to no answer my call. When he picked up the third time, he gave me an attitude. He wasn’t helpful and kept telling me mail back and didn’t explain anything about what. When I asked what am I suppose to mail back, he kept raising his voice. Didn’t explain anything well and when I was trying to understand he gave me an attitude I was almost expecting to hear him curse me out. He hung up on me with everything unclear. I hope he loses his job because if you’re doing a job do it with respect to your clients and people you’re suppose to serve. Terrible service and the county has to take steps to hire people who respect the citizens in the county they are serving.

Are those employees ever happy? Every time I go to that building the only employees I see smiling are the court officers. However, the rest of staffs are just a bunch of miserable people. They assume you know everything, and hate having to tell people how to fill out an application. Whenever you bring them some papers, they receive them negatively, looking for the minimum thing to reject it, and make you go back. If you are planning to go to that court, get ready to make more than one trip. It’s rare if they take your documents the first time. Particularly, if you go at the end of the day. Even if you get there an hour before the building close, they don’t want to take anyone, and suggest you to come another day. If you work, you might have to take a day off just to make the curt’s employees happy.

I HAVE CALLED OVER 20 TIMES AND I CONTINUE TO GET THE VOICEMAIL. AT ONE POINT I GOT THE BUSY SIGNAL FOR ABOUT 4 CALLS STRAIGHT.. WHICH MEANS THEY'RE PROBABLY IGNORING THE CALLS AND GOT ANNOYED WITH MY CONSTANT CALLING BACK TO BACK. THIS IS MY SECOND EXPERIENCE WITH THEM. BOTH OF WHICH WERE RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. THERE HAS TO BE AN OVERSIGHT WHERE WE CAN FILE OUR COMPLAINTS. I REALLY DON'T WANT TO DRIVE 30 MINUTES FROM THROGGS NECK TO THE COURT HOUSE TO LOOK FOR PARKING OR OVER PAY FOR A SPOT JUST TO GO IN AND WAIT 2 HOURS TO ASK 1 G-DARN QUESTION! RIDICULOUS!

  • Paola Morales

This Bronx court passport agency is the absolute worst. Took the day off to apply for a expedited passport. Arrived on a Friday shortly before 1 PM to be told they were no longer accepting passport applications. Asked the clerk how come if the sign clearly said open until 4 PM and was told that they had decided to stop taking applications for the day to return another business day. BEWARE THEY CHOSE TO SEE PEOPLE ON A WHIM AND CLOSE/ OPEN THE HOURS THEY FEEL LIKE. If you’re a working adult with a limited schedule you’re better off going anywhere but here.

My former lawyer settled my accident case with out my knowledge I take him to court the judge dismissed my case I made a motion to get my filed from my former attorney the judge dismissed that also you are not getting your file. He was not longer my lawyer on December 03, 2013 but he refused to give my files he went to court on March 14,2014 to settle my case but the court dismissed my case. The lawyer settled my case for $225,000.00 and left me more than $200,000 where I never signed any documents to settled the case.

Terrible phone service. I've been calling since November to ask a simple question, and I've yet to get an answer. If I am not put on hold for 30+ minutes (just to be hung up on), the lady who answers is EXTREMELY rude every single time, and just transfers me before I even finish speaking. I've been dreading going personally because I'm upstate so it's a drive, but it looks like I will be forced to do so; it really is ridiculous.

  • Raul Chacon

This place is joke, worst place in the world, there is a lady very rude, screaming, in bad mood no idea why, she say something in Spanish, no manager to manage this office, they don't know if they are working in a Federal Department or in a Zoo, no hello, no thank you, should hire new people or send it this team in a cage to the zoo. No going back to this office, unless they get trained to work with the public.

  • Beverly Romako

My notary will expire in one week. My money order was cashed for the renewal in May. I still have not received my renewal card . Phone rings and disconnects. I have no idea of I can go someplace regarding this or what. The owner is not excepting messages. That is the help you get!!

  • Josie Ojeda

Customer service agent was rude and condescending with his responses when I inquired about obtaining a copy of my divorce. If they are not happy with there job give it to someone who can deal with the public in a polite and respectful manner. This is very disheartening.

  • Andy Balliu

Arrogant to extreme. I did not encounter one single person who acted as they should be, Public Servants who work on your dollar. Nope ! Down to the lowest level clerk, they treat you as you being so lucky that those "special humans" breath on this planet. Pity !..

  • Yusef Ahmad

The staff and security are very nice but it seems as though no one knows what they are doing. I was trying to authenticate a notary signature, and while that process takes less than five minutes at other counties, at the Bronx it seems excruciatingly long.

  • Sec Af

This is ridiculous!!! When you need info per phone about corporation matters, and the website doesnt provide any info or says the domain is expired... Phone numbers dont work, is this how a county clerk work? Get your customer service together...

  • Elizabeth Sawney

Get there early in the morning since it tends to fill up very quickly. Got married here and didn't wait not even 10 minutes before we were was called. Marriage Clerk was very nice and allowed a small amount of time to get pictures taken.

  • james fevrier

The employee there has no clue how to do there job. If your doing research don't go to window#2. I know it was late in the day and people wants to go home but some respect when helping people on what the need to do.

  • Kate Lockhart

I had my wedding here back in 2019. It was unforgettable! Very nice Judge married us in the little chapel they have there& the old courthouse itself was simply beautiful. Thank for a memory that will last forever.

  • Rossy Mercado

This one old lady with red hair is TERRIBLE. She has no care in the world and had the only attitude. She should retire. The supervisor was very nice and tried to help us out. I do not recommend this place!!!!!!!

  • kandice kumar

called to ask a question, the lady was very rude and unprofessional . Who hires these unprofessional rude nasty people ? this office needs new staffs, people like this should not be working at places like this

  • Jessica N

My husband and i had gotten married here 4 weeks ago and we’ve had the best experience. Staff was very friendly and understanding all though the line moved slow everything else was absolutely smooth and fast

A wonderful historic building with a Green Roof. Between Joyce Kilmer and Franz Sigel Parks on the Grand Concourse. Nearby to a bustling commercial strip of 161st Street. Walking distance to Yankee Stadium.

  • Neil Tyler

Slow moving lines to get in. Slow lines everywhere inside. Workers that act like they hate their jobs. But you can handle your business there and that's what we go there for. So... 3 stars i guess?

  • R. V.

The number their automated phone system provides to call is disconnected and when I tried to send an email it didn't work either. The only way to ask a question is to go there in person....

  • Abu Sufian (Manna)

Went first thing in the morning to get a copy of my marriage certificate. In and out in about 15 minutes even though there was an error and I had to get back in line. Guards were cordial.

  • nathan wood

Sad that our own government office can’t open on time! If you office opens at 8:30am, why are the doors still closed at 8:45. There’s no respect for the citizens/ civilians!

  • Marianela Esther

Small estates claim court is a nightmare constantly complaining about only two people working but don’t help you fill out a form correctly even when I came in person

  • Darlena

The customer service is horrible, theres a gentleman who is very rude & unprofessional. They need to hired people who are grateful to have a job!!!(6/30/16)

  • Faith User

The place to go to get married and to get your marriage certificate. Ceremony's are quick you'll be married in like 10 minutes. Grate customer service.
