We've stumbled upon a supermarket that's a playground for culinary creativity. From well-priced chicken to a diverse assortment of meats like lengua and tripe, the options are endless. And yes, they've got the essentials for concocting a rich mole or a comforting bowl of pozole. The produce section? An artist's palette of fresh fruits and vegetables, inviting you to go beyond the ordinary. Now, for the foundation of countless dishes—excellent tortillas and tostadas. They've got the quality to elevate any meal, from tacos to tostadas and beyond. This place is a canvas, and the ingredients are your colors. Whether you're mastering a family recipe or inventing a dish on the fly, the possibilities here are limited only by your imagination. #EmbassyofTacos #MexicanCuisine #CulinaryPlayground #FreshProduce #EndlessPossibilities What Mexican dish are you inspired to make next? Shall I name the reasons I love this place? There are really too many … they have such great produce with lots of vegetables you can't find at Giants. Like big carrots and Asian eggplants. They have all Korean and Mexican essentials that you usually can't find unless you go to a specialty shop. But even more than that, they have all the nice American/European things that you need everyday, like good cheese. Also excellent meat and wine selection — all at great prices. At this point you might think I was paid to write this review, but no, I just love this grocery store near my home and I want everyone to know. To me, this is the best grocery in DC. I love you capital supermarket <3.

Black Folks in this community always complaining about that store since their new ownship. Now I see why as of today 3/18/2023! They are very Racist's and as badly I need something I'll do without or go to Giant/Safeway. It was a long line and only one person was at the register. Spanish dude opens up another register and hollers next. So, I walked over there to be told by him. That I'm not next! So, he's still hollering Next. He's looking at the White folks at the other register. I told him they all together and he needs to mind his business. White folks turned and looked at him like he was crazy.

Great small & local grocer. I used to go to the Shaw Giant despite this place being nearly equidistant, putting up with Giant's long lines simply because I'd stereotyped this place rather negatively. When the Giant closed and I started coming here I was surprised: the selection still hits most of the things I need & the owners are willing to order you items they don't have. The prices are the same as or better than Giant was & the lines here are utterly non-existent -- at worst I'm 2nd in line. Both staff and customers have always been friendly. Only negative trait: they close way too early (8pm).

Really neat Hispanic/Asian grocery. Plenty of your standard grocery produce, dried/canned goods, etc., but then also cactus leaves, chicken feet, weird organ meats, Sambal Oelek in 1lb jars, interesting Mexican spiced candies, a dozen different kinds of soy sauces and rice vinegars, esoteric spices, etc. Very much gives off a mom & pop local vibe. And the products are cheaper than at a supermarket, at least it seems to me.

Capitol Supermarket has been in the neighborhood for as long as I can remember! It's a great ethnic market that stays open pretty late ( considering it's a locally owned business). They are sorta small but have a better selection of veggies, spices, snacks and drinks than many other places that I shop. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Affordable prices & its always clean & organized!

  • Mi Bome

This is by far the best supermarket that I know in Washington and pretty much elsewhere. The staff is extremely nice and helpful, the selection is better and more various than in all the competition, even better than in much bigger markets, the prices are lower that elsewhere, and I just can get everything I can think of. Thank you for your service.

  • Frances Waterman

I love this place because they have kitchen equipment that has been hard to find elsewhere and the good choices of needs that you can find for instance the smoked turkey you have a cut up into pieces as opposed to in the regular grocery stores they're just smoked and they're in large pieces and I appreciate the smaller

This place always seem to have everything that I need. Not just simple Staples but things that whole foods is always sold out of like baby bok choy and leaks. The other thing is, the owners are super helpful. Whatever you call it they will always take a moment to go look on the shelf to see if they have it.

This grocery store is a neighborhood jewel. They seem to have just what you need when the other big corporate stores don't. I've lived in the area for decades and have always come to rely on them to keep it real plus thier prices are comparable to the big box stores if not lower. Customer for life.

  • Keya Ramirez

Your typical neighborhood store. It will have what you need and some not typical. The fruits were fresh. I went to purchase mainly nuts and fruits. I was able to find a good variety of options. I asked 3 employees where some items were. Two of them were able to send me to the correct locations.

Its difficult to find a grocery store in the downtown, but this place serves it right! Though a small place, this market has everything necessary including vegetables, fruits and meat. It also have bunches of daily supplies. In all, it is a convenient place for people living in the downtown!

  • David Wachira

This is a decent neighbourhood grocery store in Shaw. Their prices are relatively cheaper than more established brands like Giants and Safeway; especially their meats. Given its size, the store has remarkable international foods to choose from, notably from Latin America and East Asia.

  • Lawrence Chin

Basic necessities/exotic needs supermarket. Good for buying a few things or things you usually wouldn't find at your local giant or whole foods, but I wouldn't really go here other than if I desperately need something. Beware of vegetables/breads being way past their expiration date.

  • Jeff Sauri

If you don't feel like paying Whole Foods prices for your food staples, this is an excellent option just a couple blocks away. They also have a good selection of Goya products. The aisles seem well stocked, and the staff are friendly. Overall a great little neighborhood supermarket.

  • Adesh Saxena

No walls here Mr President: America is and will be a land of immigrants. The Capitol Supermarket is owned by Koreans, the staff at the till are most often Spanish speaking, 2 of the guys are from Mongolia (where?), and a couple of Koreans.

  • F G

SCAMMER ALERT! A homeless guy will approach you and tell you this sad story. He will “not ask” for money but just for some one or two items, if you accept he will run into the store and get a shopping cart full of random stuff hopping that

  • T T

ive been coming here for years..the NEW MANAGEMENT and the asian lady at cashier are prejudice towards afro latinas and black people. the cashier was so horrible actling like she could not understand me and then she called for a latin man

  • C A

Many items here are far more expensive than other groceries, even Whole Foods. For example, a bottle of san pellogrino is $2.29! Price gauging overload here as the neighborhood has flourished. However, not any evident reinvestment into

Truly unique selection of food to shop and the prices are amazing. A must if you're looking for something different to try or just want to support good local business. Their nice and their customer service is unmatched.thanks!

  • Eric Gorman

Always great to shop there, some foods that i use to buy, they don't sell anymore, (don't know why), use to sell dish cloths, not any more. But i still get most of what I'm looking for. People are nice and friendly.

  • L M

Good place to shop. Prices are good and they have a variety of food for most people. It's a combination Latin/Asian market with mainstream food items. People are friendly as well. Overall a positive experience.

  • Don Pessin

This is a smaller older independent market but it’s been steadily improving and updating under new ownership this past year. It’s a real gem if you live in the neighborhood. It’s a real competitor to Streets.

  • Alex Harris

This grocery story is absolutely wonderful. Great prices (especially the produce) and you can find a pretty good selection of Asian spice, sauces and produce. Everyone who works there is very friendly too.

  • Jason Amirhadji (Hajj)

Friendly staff, extensive selection, and convenient location forgive lacking ambiance and high prices. Low credit card minimum ($2) is a plus, as are generally short checkout lines. No dedicated parking.

  • Gerard Callan

Horrible quality meats and veggies. Chicken was rotten but still on the shelf. Broccoli smelled like it had been in a sauna for hours. Do not recommend shopping for wet produce here.

  • Brandon Sato

It's a nice little store with various ethnic foods from Asian to Hispanic. They also have a butcher here, so I picked up a little more than a pound of ground pork for $3, not bad.

  • Maria D. Villars

Closest place downtown to find green plaintains, yucca and fresh produce, I can only find in Spanish bodegas or groceries. New management since I was last there. Sweeet upkeep!

  • Erick Santillán

One of my favorite Latino stores in the city. They remodeled in 2021 it looks great. You can find almost any Latino product. Also fruits and vegetables prices are usually good.

  • Doralicia Farmer

I could see the store is very well stocked but earn ni stars from me the check out is definitely not wheelchair accessible and barely room to navigate around the store.

  • John Alingwa

Prices are little too high for someone from Maryland but its just fine for DC. They have things you would not expect to be there. Give it a try. It was worth it for me

  • Augusto Paulino

The best finds in this neighborhood grocery are the dried spices and the Latin cheeses. For basic goods and meats, it’s cheaper at nearby Giant. The staff is friendly.

  • Kerry Lacroix

Good value and range of international foods. Wide selection of different cultural cheeses, including queso fresco, queso blanco, feta, Brie, cheddar, frying cheese.

  • Michael Coyne

Love supporting our neighborhood independent grocer. Has everything you may need and you can discover some new things too - today I discovered mayonnaise in a bag!

  • Jeffrey Gregorio

Great local neighborhood, quick stop shopping. Great prices on all items. Friendly staff - great selection of different global cuisines, spices, and vegetables.

  • Sarah Beatty

Great local independent grocery store with good selection. The staff is super friendly and they have a ton of products for a smaller store. Highly recommend.

  • Brent Stains

Good selection. Would have given 4 stars if I could have found crisp apples...perhaps just bad timing. A little cramped, but good for quick stop shopping.

  • Lavonnia Johnson

This store has all the little thing you need that you may need that your forgot at the grocery store. The even sell wine and flowers and fresh fruit.

  • Paula Montesanto

Excellent supermarket with fare prices and lots of international products (mostly Latin Americans and Asian) that are not easily available elsewhere

  • Gibran Mir

Super Convenient. Excellent neighborhood Grocery store. They might not have everything you want. But they definitely have everything that you need.!

  • Ryan Klein

Nice selection of Latin/Asian specialty ingredients. And very friendly staff! They offered to watch my bike at the front of the store as I shopped.

  • Scott Abernathy

It's cheaper here for produce and if you want Latin or Asian products. I would never buy meat here, as the department has a bad smell.

  • Yong-Jun Lee

Cheaper than nearby CVS. Convenient location. Good instant noodle selection, which is way better than Daikaya Ramen.

  • Hner Zibari

beautiful grocery store and friendly staff but prices are a little high comparing to Giant and Whole food

  • spainstudies

great produce and good prices! very kind owners! they have asian and latin american food

  • chanel Johnson

My kids love hot and spicy noodles and they had a lot of them and rhere hard to find

  • Felix Casarrubias
