7/2023 It got worse and I do not recommend this company. To Mr./Ms. CarBYU Owner, first of all, I didn't have issues with my car insurance in a way that you are insinuating and it should be against the law for a business to put a customers information out there in an attempt of defamation but to also be so hateful and condescending towards former customers. My policies or insurance company is how ever I see fit to MY needs with in reasonable limitations, and they were. There is absolutely nothing reasonable about how your company slaughtered my desperate position from the time I walked in that door. After paying on time 2-3 payments a month for almost 2 years I had 2 deaths in my family and my grandmother hospitalized all in the same 2 weeks time, I contacted the office about a late payment and I was threatened with a repossession even though my contract states a remedy could have been reached your employees chose not to do that very disrespectfully. I thought about it and although I loved that car after how I was treated by your employee that day and in consideration of all the unnecessary payment weight I was taken advantage of that I'm just now finding out was NOT a staple for purchase, I do not want to talk to anybody anymore and I left a message that the company could have the car back and when they took it back I removed the insurance. You really should stop trying to turn customer complaints for reviews and hating on former customers that of which is clearly seen with retaliation on your bad reviews. It speaks for itself. A true business owner would be more concerned to fix the problems with in their company for return business. Have a nice day. 9/06/2022 It has now been 7 months since I purchased a vehicle from this location. Although Alex was exceptional, the continued service is not. I understand now why it was so important to write a good review for your salesperson to get a bonus. I think it's more about the bad reviews and I've noticed that bad reviews are retaliated against instead of unconditionally caring for the customer issues. I don't want to believe CAR BY U is ALL bad, just the people you have to deal with after the sale and that's my personal experience. 3/2022 purchase of vehicle Alex was absolutely AMAZING!! I'm a Nurse at the Columbia Trauma Center. My SUV broke down and I had to get a rental and the car I was buying in Columbia was sold at the last minute... I had less than 24 hours to find a car and return the rental all working a 12hr shift! That's when I found CarByU with THE perfect car! Coming from Columbia I was so scared it wouldn't be there but Alex understood my predicament and made it happen!! Alex was like Jesus taking the wheel and he took care of absolutely everything I needed like I was his own little sister! I couldn't have been so lucky for anyone better! Also, my first review didn't post and now it's been about 30 days and CarByU has taken every step to take care of me and make sure any problems I've had is fixed and safe for me to get back home!! It's a struggle coming from Columbia S.C. but CarByU is still there for me and totally worth it!!

Let’s talk about the vehicles, false advertising, unprofessionalism and the attorney general.. Initially I was suppose to pay 3000 down, I paid 3500 for a 2016 Hyundai sonata at 89,000 miles…. RED-FLAG. All of the vehicles if not new are in fact LEMONS or in other words bad vehicles. I’ve had the vehicle since October 21, 2022, since that date I’ve spent tons of money on oil changes.. until one day I was informed about Hyundai campaign. There’s a campaign going on with some of Hyundai vehicles, they’re burning a lot of oil which can cause engine and transmission issues but is not visible to see leaks bc it could coming through the exhaust pipes. The month of November til February 3rd I’ve had to buy my own oil and go get oil changes every 2-4 weeks since purchasing the vehicle. I noticed small issues and always informed the dealership service department; no help. They wanted to schedule me to have the car looked at after having it for a whole day to fix breaks and rotors which should’ve been done before leaving off the lot. Every one in the service department is janky and not professional. Jesse will help because it’s his JOB not because it’s their car and they know they have been selling bad vehicles. It’s all gimmicks and scams. They mentioned a diagnostic fee when it’s evident what the issue is. They informed me that the car was in a car accident and was only tapped but why I noticed the darn bumper a different color. Never replaced windshield wipers which is a safety hazard, I also had to bring the vehicle back for that. The vehicles has been in their possession since the car broke down which was on been Feb 3rd. I haven’t driven the car for a month. I refuse to pay out of pocket for expensive maintenance issues on the vehicle that should’ve been fixed when the vehicle was brought to them plus the monthly fee which was due on January 28th; u have a 10 period grace period they give you which was to February 7, the vehicle was already in their possession due to misfires and jerking back and forth which it did bac in November. They have all calls and information of me informing the about this vehicle. Bad experience, bad dealership, bad salesman and service department. I don’t have time to informed them about issues they knew the car had. I go back and forth to work Tuesday through Saturday; I informed them that. Maria and Sara are rude. Maria sarcastically offered to have a mechanic to come out to my residence and i sarcastically said why not. These folks will be hearing from the attorney general very soon about their unprofessionalism and Gimmicks. To any woman; GO WITH A MAN! If I could I would give this no stars and they should be out of business with them janky junk yard vehicles

I would not recommend this dealer to my worst enemy. Vehicle we viewed was priced competitively, but if you don't have trade in add$1000, if you don't finance through them ,add $1000. Vehicle was sub par to say the least. Ant infestation in engine compartment and cab, oil pan leak and exhaust leak that had been cleaned to try and hide it. Many boots and rubber seals were either missing or damaged. Some electronics worked ,some didn't, speakers blown, not hooked up, and were hanging from interior by the wire. Clothes hooks and screw cover plugs were missing from headliner. Wheel finish was extremely damaged and any /all iron based components on the under carriage had surface rust even though NO FLOOD DAMAGE was reported. HAD to run credit before we could even test drive, lied about our credit rating because we drove 30 minutes up the road and purchased a vehicle that day. Only allows 39 month financing , even with substantial down payment, wanted $800 a month payments. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!! I'm sure they will respond in denial. STAY AWAY AT ALL COST. DID I BREAK TOUR CONCENTRATION? PLEASE ALLOW ME TO RETORT. This is what I bought. 6-year-old vehicle, everything works, 450\month, plus 50,000 MI warranty. Sour grapes sometimes makes the best wine friends, but even stomped , sour grapes,are strained of the sediment. Like any business transaction, with vehicle price immovable, and a 42% downpayment. As financing restrictions, work with better Banks I suppose. However I was very pleased with the place we did purchase with. Clean, buffed and waxed, full tank of gas, price is immovable but we got the Platinum electronic warranty. Gave me actual credit score not my wife's score then totally lie about hers. Turn the computer screen to both of us step by step and they offered 72 months financing. As a review I'd let you do the math do not accept potted meat when you can get filet mignon for half the price. So if you prefer fast talking salesman and managers that don't even speak to you or can't let you look at a screen. This is an option for your car buying needs. Just ask for J. The fact that a Salesman casually mentioned smoking pot to me, my wife, and my 17-year-old minor son. Tells me I'm not in a place of professional business that I need to fre.quent . That's just the car market that's the way IT is or that's what i was told .consistently So if that made me difficult to flip or to see who gets there first. I sincerely hope this will explain and clear things up as to why. Again thanks for your time! Shop wisely folks!!

I don't like how I was treated in reference to my most recent car payment. I made my payment online on Friday 10/6 first thing in the morning, and on Monday 10/9 the payment hadn't posted yet. The money was taken out of my bank account but was still showing pending. Usually when I make a payment it post immediately and I didn't understand what the issue was this time. I called and spoke with someone about this and was accused of not making my payment at all. I was spoken to very nasty and I wasn't being heard. I was trying to explain the situation. I offered to show a copy of my bank statement showing where I initiated the payment, it was deducted from my account, but it was still pending, but they didn't care about any of they. I was told repeatedly that I just didn't make the payment which was vey upsetting. I contacted my bank several times and was told that it was up to the merchant to process the payment so that it will post. This morning the payment finally posted for the date that I initiated the payment which was 10/6. I called to find out why it took so long to post this time and again I was spoken to in a very nasty tone and told AGAIN that I didn't make the payment on 10/6, I made "another" payment yesterday, and that why it posted. That didn't make sense at all. After the person actually looked into my account and saw that the payment posted and was made on 10/6 (like I had been trying to explain all along) she said that she didn't know what to tell me and that there was "probably a glitch in the system". What I didn't like about this situation was how I was spoken to. I wasn't being heard. She saw that the payment hasn't posted yet and nothing else mattered. I hated how that made me feel, being told that I didn't make the payment over and over without even looking further into the situation. I was treated as though I was lying even though I offered to provide a BANK STATEMENT. I absolutely hated how I was treated over this situation and I'll never make an online payment again through this company to avoid "glitches in the system" and being spoken to like I'm a liar.

WARNING! Be VERY CAREFUL if you purchase from Cars By U, read EVERYTHING. We purchased a car for $28,000 with 34,000 miles. The price was right inline with what this vehicle was selling for at other dealerships. We waited for over three hours to get all the paperwork ready for us to sign and drive off the lot. By time we were signing, the guy was just pushing papers in front of us and we were in hurry to go so we just signed. BIG MISTAKE and I will take accountability for that. However, here is the shady part. Within a week, the check engine light was on so we took it to the Infiniti dealership. 2k in repairs later, the check engine light comes on again shorty after. Within 6 months we ended up spending nearly $7,000 in repairs. I asked the dealership how in the world a vehicle with only 35k miles on it could be having all these issues? After looking into it, the dealership informs us that the car does not have it's original engine, that there is a history of the odometer reading being changed and that the actual engine in the car had closer to 93k miles on it. They did not disclose any of this to us and with the car priced at 28k, we had no reason to think this was an issue. The car is now actually only worth about $7000 and we've only owned it for 10 months. This company preys on people that have poor credit and have a hard time getting a loan. I actually have great credit and did not use them for financing. I just made a terrible mistake of buying a car from a shady roadside dealership. If you have poor credit and this is your only option, just know these are the kind of shady practices you can expect. I feel terrible for those that get a car here and then don't have the money to spend on the thousands of dollars of repairs they are sure to expect. We'll be taking a HUGE loss on the car and all we get from the dealership is "you signed it "as is"". BE WARNED AND BE CAREFUL

I bought a 2016 Honda Civic in January 2020 and my sales guy Ryan was so pleasant and made my experience so great that I recommended this place to two of my friends. However, by November 2020, the transmission and alternator were no good. I went up to CarByU to speak to a woman I believe was named Maria to ask if this was covered under my warranty I was told it was not. And when I asked her for an extension on my car payment, because I was a college student and was nearly impossible to pay for a new transmission and alternator while making payments made every two weeks, I was told coldly told no and that if I didn't make my payment within 10 days my car would be sent out for repo. Essentially, my only options were to get a loan to pay for the transmission and alternator or continue to pay for a car that was undriveable. Now, almost two years later almost being free of these people, with less than 10 car payments left I wake up to additional fees (higher than my car payment) being added to my account. When I called to ask about it I was told it was always there and they could see it on their end but they just made it available for the customer to see. Hmmm sounds weird? Please save your money and get your credit score up so you do not have to buy from this company. You will save yourself a lot of headaches on the backend. Also, most of the "good" reviews are made right after you have purchased the car and feel good. After my car purchase, I was asked to leave a review right there on the spot. Look for updated reviews months/years after having the car and dealing with these people.

I purchased a 2010 Camaro and didn't have time to look it over more the day of. Overall pretty good car however major problems that that dealer ignored!!! It had Wheels that were 3 to 4" too tall and therefore rubbed in front and rear. It had spacer clamps in the rear Springs so it would not lower and rub the back tires therefore canceling or canceling out the expensive suspension. So I had to buy new wheels and tires right away and take the spacers out so it would ride correctly. The biggest issues were that the front left wheel had been severely cracked and Welded. That is very very unsafe if the weld breaks on front tire. Also the exhaust was not welded to the support bracket and the whole exhaust system moves up-and-down. Also very unsafe if exhaust leaks into the cab from moving up-and-down. Also they had AC blowing Wide open for test drive but no AC. I have to replace the compressor and I'm not driving 3 hours to Charlotte again and deal with them trying to replace it. If it wasn't working for the purchase they will not probably fix it correctly now. Alex was Nice enough but was Basically just trying to sell me a car. Like most car salesman they don't care about you they care about the money. They were blowing my phone up until I purchased the vehicle and now they will not respond to me. So IF you buy here have plenty of time to have someone look the vehicle over and talk them down on price as need. Just be careful here or anywhere you go because there are scam artist everywhere

I would NOT recommend this dealership at all. Drove over three hours to purchase a vehicle and from the pictures the car was perfect. Got there in person and everything was “glued” with a cheap adhesive and falling off. The racks on top of the car and interior molding as well to name a few faults. Also conveniently the guy my wife had been speaking cole* was not there which is who we originally began speaking with. If you want something priced for quick resale to fatten their pockets this is the place to go. I DEFINITELY don’t recommend the insurance they offer and recommend as well. $499 to start the policy and then how much ever it is a month to quote the policy monthly. They take your money don’t follow up and SCAM you the money just to make you reinstate the insurance and then come back to say we have to re quote you to get EVEN MORE MONEY out of you. Please stay clear of this company as it is a waste of time and money. Select insurance group with Acceptance Insurance is the name. Money is too hard to come by! Don’t let these crooks take it from you!!! This review is for CARS BY U in Charlotte. Scary how nice this one was in the pictures. Due to the leak in the racks on top water is now coming out the latch where the Sun visors are held in place. They talk fast and smile quick. Please be careful.

I went to this company to get me a car. When they sent someone out to pick up my car after I talked with a William at the finance center at least that’s what they call it. The man pulled out a taser on me and treated me horribly after I tried to get my daughters tablet out my car and her asthma medicine out of my car. What I will say is that everything is done a certain way and to act a certain way with me and judge me based off my color this is the most humiliating experience ever. I feel as though Things happen and if my car was under repossession I should had not be treated that way and humiliated and scared. I wish I would of listened to these reviews. 3/18 I called today to make my payment for my car and of course William that works with the so called payment center picked up. He is very very rude his customer service is horrible and he treats you how he wants to cause he knows you want to keep your car. Like who treats customer with such disrespect. I recommend to never ever go to car by u if you want to be treated like they appreciate your business don’t go there and don’t run into William. At all!!!!’

PROS: Let me start by saying they helped me in an emergency situation. My truck gave out on me christmas even 2022. I have two young boys 3 years old and 2 months old. I had to get back on the Road ASAP. The sales staff is absolutely top notch. And the vehicle inventory is EXCELLENT! CONS: My first payment was the first strike against me being a repeat customer. Just know that as NICE as this car lot is. The finance department will SPEAK to you AND TREAT you as a buy here pay here customer.... (icky) RECOMMENDATIONS: DON'T be in an emergency situation like me! Plan ahead bring your own bank financing. As I said above, the payments department will treat you and speak to you as a typical buy here pay here customer. We have all experienced how it feels to be talked down to. They will cut you off when you ask questions and make sure you understand that there is a GPS wired into the vehicle. Typical BHPH car lot tactics. **I will update this review every 6 months until I pay off or refinance the vehicle. Overall a much nicer buy here pay here car lot but still has that old school BHPH experience. 01/09/2023

Just a few days ago I posted a review stating how happy I was to purchase a vehicle from Larry. Well not even 24 hours later I had problems with the key after that was fixed the starter went out the next day. I had the vehicle towed to one of the best shops in town to have the starter replaced 2 days after the car was being worked on I received a call that I had been sold a FLOOD CAR and they was not willing to do anymore work and advised me to take the car back to where I purchased it from. I called the owner BILL MARSHAL and he asked me “ what do you want me to do it’s your problem now” I replied “ I would like to trade the car” he said he was not willing to take back the car or accommodate me in any way. This car was 12,000 dollars Mr. Bill treated my husband and I like we was the scum from the bottom of his shoe. We work hard and this feels like HIGHWAY ROBBERY. The customer service is great until you drive off with a car that won’t last 2 days then you become another idiot who JUST GOT SCAMMED! BE CAUTIOUS AND REMEMBER YOU ARE JUST A WALKING DOLLAR SIGN

I was excited to work with them after reading the reviews. Stay away from Charles.. although he is the only that answers the phone. Ask to speak to someone else. The finance manger was way more pleasant to deal with. However I called and and got all the info I needed to send in. Send it wait for a call back, which never happened I had to call them back every time to get a update. The underwriter obviously can’t add or for whatever reason this company does not know how to work with business owners. After submitting additional cash apps to support my income. They said it didn’t match my statements. As cash is another merchant I didn’t know I had to have those apps connected to my bank account. Nevertheless I just got the complete run around. After I did my part and asked what documentation would be needed for self employment individuals, then still got denied”. But I look at as gods protection against me. Because Hendricks bmw approved me with less. If you are self employed don’t waste your time

Wow my experience with Car By U Independence Blvd was Amazing. I went online looking for a car they contacted me right away and said come on down and I got here and gained a friend and a blessing. The staff there are wonderful. They will guarantee to do everything possible to get you the vehicle of your dreams!!! My daughter in love with the vehicle that I purchased and so am I. My Sales Representative was Charles Reyes and Mr BILL .He’s a very great guy. he made us feel welcome as well. Sometimes as adults we often do business without child being present. Well I’m happy my daughter could be here to experience this she pretty much chose this car, which was a really great decision. I really appreciate Charles o at Car By U for being not only a great sales Rep. but also for being a wonderful person! I recommend EVERYONE to come to this dealership if your looking for a great car and great experience! 5 thks mr.charles I'll be back for my suv

Wouldn’t recommend to a single soul. I wish I could give negative stars. They sold my gf a used 2015 Honda civic SI that never went through service. They gave her the car with no oil in it and a bad starter. She brought it back and they changed the battery.. it didn’t fix the car. which just lets me know they didn’t go through the steps to find the actual the problem. also very rude on the phone and showed no concern to my gf for selling her a car that was NEVER serviced. I’m a mechanic of 8 years and this type of work is unacceptable. This place takes zero accountability for their mess ups they just try to do temporary fixes to try to get the customer out of their face.. in my personal opinion, this is trash service a “quick buck” type of business and I wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy… mind you she hasn’t had this car a week and we’ve been back and forth there 3 times

UPDATE:After having the car for a year we are not to pleased. My fiance and I purchased a jeep from here and the initial interaction was wonderful but we started having issues with the car soon after and we were informed to take it to the JEEP dealership to get it fixed just for them to tell us we were sold a car with transmission issues! Even with the "warranty" we were still coming out of pocket almost $5000 to fix it.We were told we could trade the car in so my fiance goes to do so only for them to tell him that we can no longer do that and they cant do anything to help us. We are now stuck paying for a car that has really bad problems. If you need a car this is the place to get it! Jeremy was AWESOME! He explained everything needed to know to a tee and made it very easy to understand. The process was pretty quick and smooth.10 out of 10 would recommend!

My son bought a car here, then my friend. Larry said there is a $300 referral fee for my son. Seems Larry lied. We have been waiting for a check to arrive. I called Larey on Jan 30th. He said he would check into it and call back. He did not. Fast forward two weeks to Feb 14th when I call again, to be told he is off for the day, I left my name and number. I still have not heard back. I will now get my son to start calling too. I realize the check could have gotten lost in the mail, it happens, but Larry should at least do as he says and return a phone call. I will update if they ever decide to do as promised. Ryan, I absolutely appreciate your timely response. However, at this point, I don't see it as my responsibility to call again. Larry has all of our phone numbers. He is welcome to pick one and call it to resolve this.

Please Be Very Careful!! on what you are buying. I purchased a vehicle and it had problems before warranty expired, no one wanted to fix! Everyone that works there is very unprofessional and this place is basically a bootleg business that operates by selling you lemons! I am basically paying all of my payments on time for a lemon! The manger bill can’t even manage his way out of working at that bootleg store! He makes excuses for everything! What ever you do or say …excuses, just look at the reviews, making excuses. Please be very careful guys. I took a huge loss and trying to look out for the next. Please try to go to an actual dealership like Chevy or ford with real warranties. Please don’t learn the hard way!!!! Thanks!!

Bad place for business. Instead of building a relationship with you so you can come back and buy another car. They sale you a car and do not want nothing to do with you after even if you just want to ask a question. Rude service lady. Very unorganized, a lot of miscommunication and seems like they do no not know what they are doing or what they are selling to you. Just care about the $$$$ run from this place. Horrible experience. Raising my voice honestly i was very sweet before your employee said to stop making car payments so you guys can repo the car if i wanted to get rid of it that bad. Purchased a 2012 Ford Expedition today. From the moment I contacted Alex, I was immediately impressed with his effort to meet my vehicle needs and price range. I called about a vehicle I had found on their web site. Although I live in Jacksonville Nc, Alex was willing to work with me and arrange a time on Saturday that would match my schedule and travel time. The vehicle was exactly as Alex described. I was very impressed with the entire sales team and their ability to get me back on the road to Jacksonville in about one hour after arriving and meeting Alex. Thanks for Everything and especially the courtesy and friendship your team showed me. I would defiantly buy from this dealership team. Alex, you are the best.

Alex and Bill are amazing! Had fun buying my vehicle, but I had to change my rating for after the sale service. I bought a 2013 Suburban and drove less than 300 miles before I had to change my oil pressure sensor. It cost $500 to replace. I contacted Bill numerous times to make him aware of this issue but he never even responded to the 4 emails I sent to him. I am disappointed that I didn't get any response from him. I feel like buying a "certified " (their own words) vehicle should have been able to get more than 300 miles before a major repair. At the very least, a response to my emails. In conclusion I won't be using this company for any future purchases.

The purchasing process was fast and easy considering how many hours it had normally taken at other dealerships in the past. Wayne was sure to get me in and help me pick out something in my budget, being patient as I made up my mind, and Jose was great in finishing the process... Making sure my vehicle was in great condition and everything was fixed that needed to be before driving it home. Buyer beware lemons everywhere! Please do not purchase a vehicle from this business. Employee’s are very snotty and unprofessional definitely uneducated and underpaid. Cars break down after your warranty expires. Each car has its specific warranty designed to break down after it expired. Please go to an actual dealer like ford where they have professionals working on the cars unlike this business where they tow their cars from the junk yard and have the backyard mechanics work on them in the back shed! I had done some general research looking for a car in the area to finance from. I ended up finding CAR BY U and my experience with my salesmen Cole was AMAZING. We had been in contact for some time waiting on a settlement of mine to finish and Cole was patient and would offer any information regarding the vehicles I was interested in. He would follow up via email or text and made the entire buying experience so easy for me. His personality and professionalism was refreshing and I 110% recommend him as your salesmen and CAR BY U for your vehicle needs. 11/10 would recommend :’)

I like my car but I really wish they would have went into detail about the whole process. I would say if you have credit then it’s a great place for you but if don’t then I would just go another route because the interest rates will kill you if you don’t have credit. It will feel like your payment isn’t even moving. I’m grateful for my car but when I 1st got my car they were just money hungry. I can say a lady named Sarah there is very helpful with explaining everything.

I called to asked a question and the girl at service desk said well if you don't want the van just stop making payments and we will repo it. Like that's definitely not the way you answer a paying customer that literally spend 22,000 there. Bad place to make business. Your employees need better training

The company posts deceptive pricing for its vehicles. The advertised price on car buying websites like Autotrader is not the actual sales price. You have to bring a trade-in and use their financing to get the ADVERTISED price. They know how this is deceiving customers. Treat your prospective customers better by posting the actual sales price. You wouldnt like it if a seller did this to you. I'll shop elsewhere.

Wonderful experience! Jeremy was the first and only salesman to actually call me when I sent a request for info. Every other dealership just sent a "canned response" email. If I could give no stars I would. We just brought a car 2 weeks ago and negotiate with salesman Greg a year warranty and agreed on price. Well they didn't add the warranty when my daughter signed the paperwork and now she stuck with a car with a bad engine and haven't made one car payment yet. Go at your risk by far worse car buying experience I've ever had.
