Very cute trendy boutique hotel a little away from the city but centrally located 3-5 miles from anything you 'd want to experience in Austin and super convenient to Barton Springs. The restaurant on site is delish and the cafe is super convenient in the mornings. Staff is wonderful and super accommodating. Restaurants, bars and food trucks within walking distance. The pool is small but so adorable and we liked that you were forced to make friends with other guests because of size. The cons would be the rooms themselves...very industrial minimalist vibe....and this is from a couple that have owned true industrial condos. We travel a bit and always in boutique hotels and the rooms just missed the mark and kind of made you sad to be in and not comfortable. The balconies are wonderful. The bed is very low to the ground on a platform but very comfy. The fan is legitimately the best fan in the world...strong with a slight hum to get you to sleep. The blackout door will make this the darkest room you'll ever sleep in so that was incredible. However...there are no drawers for your belongings anywhere, just shelving. No coffee machine in the room so you have to walk down to the cafe or some other place to grab coffee first thing in the am which was a huge negative for us caffeine addicts. No soft carpet or fabric furnishings to break up the stark concrete walls and floors. Hubs dubbed it our VIP Prison Suite. Tiny night stands that are basically one foot high plant stools. Sheets and bedding were super minimal. Towels had holes in them and robes looked cheap and worn. Bathroom had a hilariously small sink and no where to put your basics in the shower or ledge to shave legs. Kind of felt like an outdoor bath. TV only had like 10 channels which is no biggie...get out and explore the city! The owners did so much right with this hotel but the rooms are a let down from a guest experience...they just need to be softened and made more guest friendly to be accommodating.

Love the way this hotel looks, but not the guest experience. We arrived on a Friday night and there was no hotel parking available. Note: There are not even enough spots available for the number of rooms, no one is monitoring parking to insure guests get a spot, and restaurant guests are allowed to park in the hotel parking. We were told we would have to find a city lot down the street. This is extremely frustrating when you’ve driven for hours and are paying more than $200/night. Bad design. Another issue is that there is a dog kennel right next to the hotel. I love dogs, but hearing them barking in the mornings and evenings is not relaxing. Bad design. We went down to the restaurant for breakfast but were told we would have to wait for over an hour despite there being about 10 open tables. I get that Austin is now a city where you have to have reservations, but we were not informed this would be an issue nor were we offered a reservation upon booking/check in. It’s sad that the only thing we really got to experience was the room itself. I’d stay here again in warm months when sitting on the balcony (listening to dogs) would be enjoyable, pool would be available, and walking several blocks to your car wouldn’t be such a pain. I would also be sure to make reservations ahead of time to enjoy the experiences marketed to you at time of booking. We were also not impressed with the “service” at all. The front desk operators are separated from you by a window, and despite it being super busy in the lobby, we still had to stand there and call to them to actually come to the counter and help us. The hostess at the restaurant didn’t seem to care that we were disappointed by not getting a table. It felt very cold and indifferent, as if we should just be happy to be in the space. This is what separates places like this from other cool spots like Bunkhouse hotels: good design is about so much more than just aesthetics.

My husband and I had the pleasure of visiting Austin for the Formula1 races(2023). While browsing for places to stay, we found this very unique hotel, with our shared name. Of course, we had to stay. We booked easily. They allowed us to early check-in (Thank You). We were greeted by Cassandra's warm and friendly smile. We had a great conversation and then off to our room. Along the way, we enjoyed every step through all of the spaces filled with a fun and unique combination of materials creating beautiful spaces. From the entry, past the gift boutique, through the doors into this amazing outdoor space with an area for the coffee bar, past the outdoor dining room of their restaurant, down this fun planked path to the elevators. A brief lift up, and we were at our room. Our room was very nice and had a beautiful green foliage wall of privacy from our balcony. The use of nice linens and down products on the bedding was so much enjoyed. We felt right at home!! The bed was very comfortable, we zonked right out every night. Oh yeah, the dark door!! There was a sliding door to totally black out the room. That was a very nice extra touch of perfection!! All of the spaces were nicely decorated and their use of logo was so tastefully incorporated throughout. The Carpenter Hotel also offered Hemp Code self care products for use and for sale in their boutique. We completely enjoyed them so much, we bought all 4 to take home. I highly recommend!! The restaurant within had a very nice menu and every meal we highly enjoyed. Our favorite was their turkey club. Oh my deliciousness!! I highly recommend!! Also, there were a large variety of eateries within walking distance. Which was a complete delight with the variety of options. We enjoyed ourselves with every aspect of the Carpenter Hotel. I highly recommend a visit, no matter the length of stay. I can't wait to revisit!!♡♡♡

Brides beware! I booked the Wedding night package through the hotel, however I stayed here with two bridesmaids the night before my wedding. The wedding night package included fresh flowers, wine/bubbles, robes, and king room. The flowers were "meh." nothing special like I had anticipated. We did not trash the place or anything on friday night, but there were used towels and trash. When my husband and I returned to the room on Saturday night after the wedding, the room had not been cleaned, bed still unmade, towles on the floor, and trash had not been taken out. Not an ideal way to spend your wedding night. I was so disappointed. We had even put the green "yes, please" sign outside the door early saturday morning for the room to be cleaned. Turns out that when I called the front desk about it that night, that multiple rooms that day had not been cleaned. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE HOTEL!!!!!!!!!!! How the heck do rooms not get cleaned?!?! I don't care what it takes, get it done. Basic hotel expectations. Other concerns - the parking situation is horrific. They give you a parking pass, but then they don't enforce them, so those that are actually staying in the hotel are not really guaranteed a spot to park. The area carpet/rug in the room is super uncomfortable on your feet. The material is super rough and I had to try and avoid walking on it because it actually hurt to do so. It seemed like the place was being run by a lot of really young, college age looking students. I luckily was able to get some of our money back for how terrible our experience was on saturday night after our wedding. I can't say I would recommend the hotel to anyone.

The property and room was great. When i checked in, I was told the restaraunt and coffee bar would be closed for a few days. She said CLOSED. it wasnt. We found that out when we checked out after a 2 night stay. They didnt bring us towels or sheets the second night. Instead of promoting a healthy rich lifestyle, the mini fridge was full of very addictive and unhealthy snacks and beverages (plus cheap in plastic liquer) stocked to entice people to do unhealthy things so they can make a few bucks. Is it worth it carpenter??? You should get rid of that and have make room for a healthy variety of snacks, fruit, water, make that available so we dont have to go to the market to get it. Maybe it was a good thing I thought the restaraunt was closed. Even PTerry's in front of the hotel has organic fast food. Room was small but really cool. Ac and heater worked great. Private balcony was great. View was great. Pretty noisy area but lots of life around. I was told i had to pay for parking but I didnt have to actually.. only if i parked in the garage. I parked in the parking lot just outside the garage just below my room instead, which is something she failed to mention I could do.. and that was free. Wouldn't mind getting that $70 back because I parked outside the garage both nights. The lobby closes at 11. They literally lock the doors. So if you need towels or soap, you'll have to wait til morning. There was no body wash or soap in the shower. The bottle was empty. Overall, because of its location and the view, I'm going to stay there again for Marley fest. Which 4/20 is also my wife's bday. Can't wait to leave a better review next time.

I stayed for a weekend vacation and overall had a nice experience and would probably stay again. Pros: - You can order room service, check out, etc. by text message - Hotel is stylish and easy to locate - The blackout panel in the room is a godsend - The hotel restaurant is cute and the food is tasty (and reasonably priced) - Being able to Chromecast in the room is awesome - Very convenient location - Comfortable bed, albeit a little low to the ground - Check in was quick and easy, except for below* - The shower head is high enough that tall people can actually stand under it without stooping Cons: - Inadequate on-site parking for guests; don't plan on getting back late and being able to find a spot in the garage/small surface lot behind the hotel (people also park badly) - *No place to park for check in when I arrived - The hotel office/lobby is separate from the rooms and very easy to miss pulling up - There's a doggy daycare in front of the hotel that opens early in the morning and the dogs are noisy - The bathroom sink is fashionable but comically small - There's no space for your own toiletries in the shower, except to put them on the floor Other information: - Because of covid, housekeeping isn't turning down rooms, but you can request whatever you need (extra towels, pillows, etc) by texting the office - The floors in the room are bare concrete, but there are rugs; I don't see this being an issue unless it is cold when you visit - The shower stall doesn't have a curtain or a door so expect some splashback on the floor outside - The thermostat/fan setup in the room is weird you need to fiddle with it to figure it out
Party of 2. We did a lot of research before landing on the Carpenter Hotel (CH) for our 3-night stay in Austin. It was important to us that the hotel we chose was local (not a big chain) and that it had a pool for our September reservation. CH Pro's: Overall, the property is centrally located and has plenty of street parking available for guests. The rooms are clean and well designed. The beds are comfortable and the restroom is spacious with great shampoo/ conditioner/ bodywash that was not drying. Vibey & delicious restaurant and coffee shop located on the premises. The pool space has the perfect mix of shady and sunny spots. The pool itself is small but has plenty of lounging beds surrounding the water. We didn't get around to it but you can order kitchen service to the poolside. CH Watchouts: Don't expect storage space in the hotel rooms (drawers). Towels were not too plentiful but wasn't an issue for those who strive to be sustainable travelers. There were events happening at the hotel both Friday and Saturday night which made for a noisy evening. Also, there's a dog daycare and boarding facility next to the hotel which means you'll also hear barking from time to time. TL;DR: Would *definitely* book again for clean/cute rooms and vibes, excellent pool space, and charming restaurant and café. For light sleepers, request a room facing Jessie Street. Pro-tip: Book travel on weekends that UT has an away football game to avoid MAJOR traffic.

Excellent Customer Service shout out to Manny! I booked a work trip though Expedia bc I wasn't sure if I would need to travel or not and it offered very last minute cancellation. I followed Expedia guidelines and cancelled within notice time and they confirmed I would receive a refund. A few days later, I noticed the charge from The Carpenter had not been refunded. I called the hotel and the lady I spoke to was not the nicest. After explaining the situation and showing my emails from Expedia, she let me know that I would need to get that refund from Expedia since it was their mistake... and then made it a point to remind me I should book directly with them (Duh! I had a reason for using Expedia which I had explained. But also, never again... they are the worst) Two hours of chat with Expedia later, they refused to help. I reached out again to The Carpenter via email and followed up. This time I got Manny. He took the time to read about my experience and offered me my refund without hesitation. As a working mom who is always trying to follow the rules and get it all done, I can't say enough how much this meant to me. I appreciate The Carpenter for hearing me out and making an exception for my refund.

i’m obsessed with this hotel. the architecture and design are stunning, the whole place is a total vibe. so much care and detail put into everything. every employee i talked to was super friendly, but my favorite thing is how introvert friendly this hotel is. the elevators aren’t in the lobby, so you can come and go without human contact. you can text them if you need anything, and text to check out. i’m autistic and i loved that feature a lot. each room feels like it’s own little oasis away from the busyness, which is crazy because the location is close to all the happenings. the pool is beautiful, and the coffee is the best i’ve had in austin so far— i recommend the lady bird latte iced. the room was stocked with snacks and drinks, a bluetooth speaker, a steamer, robes, and lots of toiletries. love how much thought went into stocking the rooms. the bed is lower to the ground which i am grateful for with my needs. super comfy, didn’t completely swallow my plus size body like most hotels. if you run hot (i do), the rooms are perfect since they’re all brick and concrete, and there’s a ceiling fan and thermostat too. so cute, definitely worth the price and i just can’t get over how fun my experience was here. i will definitely be back!
There are some likable things about the hotel - great design and a cool vibe, but overall it was only okay and way overpriced. We paid over $1600 for 6 nights and for that there was no place to put your underwear (no dresser, no drawers, no bins - only open shelves), only one of the beds had a bedside table, the TV uses chromecast which relies on internet -- which had issues so it was intermittently usable, but worst of all you cannot control the air/humidity levels - only the fan level. It was so humid that towels didn't dry and my pajama pants were moist (Yuck!!!) at night after being on the bed during the day. Not a lot of "practical" design - instead went for what looks good but doesn't function well. Restaurant and coffee bar are nice. Pool is small but very nice. Staff is nice, but the hotel is just okay - not worth $250/night! OH!!! and they let you have an early check in, but wait for it, for $40! Why? If the room is available, try to make your guests happy. It's easy and costs you nothing.

This place was a saving grace for us before and during the pandemic when we needed a place to escape to but could not go far. There was very little that we could fault about this hotel until our most recent stay. It’s the first time we’ve been back since it was acquired by Bunkhouse and the southern hospitality we were so accustomed to was nowhere to be found. When we arrived 2.5 hours earlier than 4pm (their check-in time), we were told quite coldly that we’d have to pay $30 to get into the empty and available room early. This is such a gross thing to do to clients. I understand the logistical need for late check-in times, but if there’s a room we booked for 2 days clean and available when we arrive, you won’t allow us to occupy it for 34 hours instead of 31 (check-out is at 11am) unless we pay up? How corporate. It’s also a big bummer to be hit with $35 parking per night when that’s a completely new thing and was never communicated at booking or in a welcome email. The whole chill energy of this onetime gem has changed and it’s sadly just another microcosm of Austin of late.
We went to Austin back in March and stayed at the JW. I told my woman it was too busy. Too hectic. Too many people. We wanted something smaller and more chill for our next trip in July. I found The Carpenter and we decided to give it a shot. It was above and beyond what we expected. 4 floors only with parking garage/lot only for the guest. Great Cafe built in. Awesome little coffee bar with a pretty sweet lounge area for all the guest. We loved our room and the bathroom was stunning as well. Not sure how people are calling it a prison when you see the photos/layout of the room you reserved. We stayed in the queen room and everything we saw in the photos, was in the room. Great location as well. There is a Thoms Market walking distance from them and also a few other food places and gas station. Nice RELAXING pool area. We will definitely be staying there again. Loved that this place is tucked away from all the city hustle. Definitely will be staying there every time we go to Austin moving forward.

I want to say first off, the hotel is incredibly beautiful with a fun 70s retro vibe. Very open, green, and breezy. The restaurant area is a cool renovated mid century building while the rooms are modern with that retro twist. I loved the proximity to downtown and Barton Springs, but the hotel pool lured us in to spend more time here. It was a vibe! Now the cons. With the price of just the hotel room, I would say it’s a good value for its location. Now with all the extra fees like $35/day for non-guaranteed parking, the high cost of the restaurant/coffee bar, lack of amenities like a gym area, and lack of basic necessities in the room like storage space, I would say less so. My partner and I also didn’t have a great night sleeps due to the uncomfortable bed, loud barking from a neighboring dog boarding, and random clicking/squeaking noises I assume were from the AC. I would love to see the guest experience more prioritized in this beautiful hotel!

I live in Austin and bought tickets to the BBQ Pool Party event. Tickets were $64.93 each which was a little steep? But they included access to the hotel pool, 1 BBQ plate with dessert, a live performance by two bands and they had a two step dance instructor giving lessons. Unfortunately we got there around 1:45pm (Pool party starts at 1pm) and the pool area was so small that regular hotel guests had already taken all of the pool chairs. Thankfully the event coordinator had some extra wire chairs to sit on while we ate, and he arranged them near the pool for us which was really appreciated. Eventually hotel guests got tired and we got some loungers. The BBQ plate ended up being way more food than expected, was super delicious and it came with a big ice cream cone + the bands were excellent. The pool was really clean and everyone was pretty quiet and relaxed, definitely not a rowdy pool party environment, actually lots of older people and babies at this event. I probably wouldn’t pay $65 again, but it was a nice day.

I could not forget to write a review of this wonderful, beautiful hotel. I, along with my coworkers, were in town for a conference and decided to stay at this hotel. It had just opened the weekend prior. I have nothing, but good things to say about this place. From the moment we walked in, every single employee smiled and greeted us.... from the front desk personnels to the maintenance people working in the hotel. I’ve never experienced such a flawless stay at a hotel until I stayed here. Everyone was so welcoming. I love the old meets new design and decor of this hotel. The hotel feels like its own little community. They have a coffee shop, and seriously, that was the best Americano I’ve ever had. The restaurant was amazing. The drinks were amazing! Try the whiskey honey grapefruit drink, it was amazing. Our waiter was amazing. They even had the little equipment to make drip coffee in your room. You must try this hotel. I’m not going to tell you all the great things about it. I don’t want to spoil the surprise!
Was able to check in ASAP due to some A/C issues in our home right down the road. My English Bulldog due to his breed is very sensitive to heat and was happy they are dog friendly. The front desk had a room ready for us when we arrived. There are no ice machines in the corridors but the front desk will bring a bucket to you. I love this area of town (that is why I live near by) because there is a ton of restaurants and outdoor areas. I got room service (Club Sandwich with fries) and it was very quick and really yummy. There is a wide variety of snacks in the room for purchase. I love the kettle that was provided. The room was unique with a very carpenter feel (hints the hotel name.) Exposed brick, concrete floors, and open floor plan. I like that style and both my boyfriend and I would stay here again for another staycation. Hopefully next time it will be under better circumstances.
I am an architect in Philadelphia and I have to say, the room acoustics are pretty awful. I understand the desire for a retro look and while I can appreciate the aesthetics, they can't be superior to comfort. You have to soften the walls and ceilings and floors - every time one of us would roll over, it would wake up the other. The loud barking from neighboring dogs (love dogs) kept us up. If you drop something, it's loud as hell. The faucet in the bathroom is too short to actually reach your hands in the washbowl. The tile flooring in the shower is beautiful but it's also a super slick surface and definite fall hazard. The bed is OKAY but it should be higher off the floor. Again, beautiful aesthetics but c'mon. Don't sacrifice comfort.

Cute but not comfortable.
Disclaimer: My experience was kind of spoiled by the parking situation. Overnight parking in the area was only available through the hotel lot/garage which costed $35 a night. In my opinion, with the abundance of fees that are already tacked onto the price of a room, parking should be included. $70 on top of the additional $535 for two nights just feels kind of exorbitant for what you’re actually getting in the room. That being said, the hotel itself is clean, beautiful, and meticulously and thoughtfully designed. My partner and I both had a nice breakfast at the lobby restaurant, and the reverse happy hour drinks were great at the end of the night. We thoroughly enjoyed the environment and our stay. PS. The mini fridges in the rooms are too full of expensive concessions to fit any leftovers. And there are no microwaves to do anything with them anyway.
I will preface by saying I would stay here again! It would've been nice to have a hot water maker or single cup coffee maker in the room, but they probably just want people to use their loungy coffee/cafe, which is super cute! Walking distance from my favorite food truck and from the super cool pedestrian bridge and park area. The staff was super polite and the beds comfy. USB plug in option would be cool, but plenty of wall charging spaces! Parking is easiest and cheaper to use their day passes compared to street parking, but not discounted with multiple nights, which is a huge bummer! Super social media photo opps and amazing scenery and calming vibes. It's like a mini oasis in a slightly busy area! I'm a fan! Thanks Carpenter Hotel!

My husband and I cancelled our reservation after waiting over an hour and a half past our check-in time—still with no time of when our room will be ready. We were so excited to stay here, very nice looking hotel and trendy, but unacceptable customer service. Nothing but excuses of being at capacity the past few nights, so that’s why our room wasn’t ready? At which led to a ton of guests hanging out in the lobby waiting on their rooms. Prior to leaving the MOD Maddie (?) said if my husband and I were to ever come back and want to stay at the Carpenter Hotel, to “let them know”, laughable since we actually booked a reservation, was waiting for our room for over an hour and a half, and was letting the staff “know” we wanted to know when our room would be ready. Need to do better. Overpriced for the Austin “vibe”… y’all go elsewhere.
Very underwhelming. Great place if you like to sleep to the sounds of downtown and wake up at 7 to the dogs barking in the park directly behind the rooms. Place feels like someone converted a parking garage into what they envisioned to represent a homeless boutique. Pool can only accommodate 4 families, don’t plan on relaxing by the pool at all. The food and specialty drinks selection at the restaurant sounded really nice and elegant, in reality, just overpriced wannabe boujee menu. This place is trying to cater to the younger IG, tick tok generation. Will not be coming back. Also, parking is an issue, especially for check in. Don’t even depend on room service. The rooms are walled and floored in concrete resulting in poor internet reception. The tiles in the bathroom are super slick, you need shower shoes so you don’t die.
Carpenter Hotel was a great experience. The service and staff was excellent and the cafe was convenient with great quality fare. There's an indoor/outdoor aspect to overall design of this place that works really well. Excellent conditions inside and outside for our dog. Our room was reasonably quiet despite being around the corner from a busy intersection and noisy dog kennel. One detail that stuck out to me was that though our room was on the small side, it had been furnished and decorated in a way that made the room feel plenty big enough: both smart and stylish design across this entire property from start to finish. Having a great private balcony was a nice perk. My favorite aspect of the room was our bathroom especially the marvelously tiled walk in shower- it was spa level. This place is worth every penny.
We enjoyed our stay and loved that the company cared about our stay and upgraded us to a single king room to help celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. This was the touch that we loved the most. They didn't have to, but they did and it went a long way. The robes were magical!! We also liked the earthy toiletries that were provided during our stay. I cannot wait to go to Austin and stay here again. The coffee we had from the cafe the following morning was fantastic. We didn't visit the restaurant, but look forward to it in future stays.

My husband and I stayed here over Christmas. I wasn't totally sure we'd enjoy it because some reviews made it sound like the beds were terrible, it was loud, etc. I will say, parking over Christmas was so easy but I can see how it would be frustrating at regular-capacity times. We loved our stay. The beds are a bit low to the ground, but very comfortable, with cozy linens and comforters. It's a really unique, kitschy place, very Austin-y. Bring socks or slippers if your feet get cold easily, as the rooms have concrete floors. I highly recommend a reservation at Carpenter's Hall for dinner. The food is really great, and it's nice to have a fun night out and be feet away from your room for the night. Hot L coffee and breakfast tacos are tasty, and the cafe serves Easy Tiger pastries, too.
The atmosphere is really cool and the food was pretty good. I felt the food could be better for the pricing but otherwise I had a great experience. I have the quail and my friend has the steak. Both were good dishes I've had some areas I could improve. The cabbage the quail was on was pretty bitter and the steak which seems sous vide could have been severed for a longer period of time to soften the fat more. My other friend had the fish which is very good. We also had the carrot cake which was a pretty good carrot cake but the cake layers could be a little bit more moist with more carrot and nut as well as an airer buttercream icing. Again this is me being picky due to the price point that they have not because the food didn't stand out as better than most.
This place is fantastic. I love a good boutique hotel, but don't make enough money to warrant staying at one often. I'm sure glad we chose to stay here. A great deal of creativity and attention was put into this property. It's incredibly stylish, unique, comfortable and staffed with good people. Even the smallest of the rooms, which we stayed in was very well appointed with many thoughtful design details. The bathroom and shower are deluxe. HOTEL COFFEE in the main bldg. is a perfect start to your day here. I imagine it's more fun in the warmer months. Location is very good with a lot of walkable destinations. VERY pet friendly like much of Austin. :)

My first time in Austin and staying at the Carpenter Hotel was truly unforgettable. Cassandra at check-in made us feel incredibly welcome, and Olivia was always there to help with our questions. The room had a fantastic style, and the coffee shop and restaurant were not only convenient but also amazing. Our dinner at Carpenters Hall on the first night was a real treat, thanks to Matt, our server, who gave us fantastic recommendations. Andy at the front desk was a treasure trove of information, suggesting great things to do in Austin and showing us some of the town's coolest spots. We can't wait for our next visit!

This was such a cool place to stay. So many thoughtful details layered into an overall amazing space and experience. We enjoyed the coffee shop each morning, tried brunch at the restaurant (so good), hung out at the pool,…the rooms themselves were super rad. We were within walking distance to downtown, other restaurants, shopping, and activities ( Barton Springs was pretty cool) but we said we really could’ve enjoyed just staying at the hotel the whole weekend and not have needed to leave. Parking is provided around back (don’t park at P Terrys or you’ll get towed;) Thom’s (next door) is a great quick stop shop for healthy snacks and essentials. And don’t forget to stop at the hotel gift shop before you roll out. They have some great stuff.
Manny, as a fellow small business owner here in Austin, I'm happy to provide further details. In it's most terse form: 1. I had a company event, booked two last minute hotel rooms for out of town employees. 2. One made it to the room, the other unfortunately was hospitalized. 3. I reached out explaining the situation and simply asking for a credit for future use. That this is my neighborhood hotel. I was told that the issue laid with Expedia. 4. Contacted Expedia, whose staff contacted yours and was informed they would not bend. The original response was shortsighted, compounded with misinformation that resulted in further waste of time, all for a charge in the ball park of $250... and here we are.
The bedroom style might be trendy but is far from comfortable or pleasant (I felt I was waking up in a warehouse …). We stayed for two nights and despite all our complains to different front desk staff, they never fixed the issue with the noise coming from the hallway fans. They gave us a different bedroom for the second night but the issue was worse. The air hissing through the fans (in the middle of winter season) echoed in the double height ceiling, creating the same sound as the old fridges (annoying buzzing !!) Two pros : the coffee from the shop downstairs and the location Bottom line: overpriced and overrated

If you do decide to try to stay with these folks, DO NOT BOOK THROUGH A THIRD PARTY.. book directly through the hotel. They canceled my reservation a month after I made a booking, without letting me know. I was planning a bachelor party, and now I am scrambling to find somewhere last minute because of a serious communication breakdown. Manager eventually sent an apology, which was thoughtful and appreciated- but still, tons of stress and frustration lead to this low review. Update: Even a year later, this one still hurts.. so much time planning, wrecked by miscommunication between the hotel and third party. Never properly compensated, and was a huge headache.
Disappointed by the rigid nature of this hotel. Came for a week work trip and there is no room service, hotel restaurant won’t allow you to order and put into a box, they charge for pour over coffee in the room, wouldn’t substitute scrambled eggs for fried eggs and so on. It could be a very wonderful hotel but the team needs to remember they are in the hospitality industry. The rigidity of this management team and chef will ultimately sink this potentially wonderful ship. Highly recommend you stay at one of the other great hotels in Austin - it’s not worth the money in the least!

The location is 5-star. Very convenient to walking downtown, to Zilker and Barton Springs. This place reminds me of the elementary school I went to in Southern California in the late 70s early 80s. It feels just like those SoCsl outdoor schools with the same style of architecture. Pool temp was great. There aren't always towels available and it might take a while to get some to take an order. There is a boutique convenience store a few feet from the hotel parking lot, Thom's Grocery, that is a great place to get drinks, wine, beer and snacks. Overall, cool hotel but not my fav place to stay in Austin.

I stayed two nights at the Carpenter while traveling to Austin for business. Staff were very friendly at check-in and simplified no-contact check out. The room was spacious and clean and had a unique look to it. Wifi was fast enough to do work from the room. I visited during a heat wave and the air conditioning kept the room very comfortable. There is a nice pool and I took a dip to try and escape the heat, but the water was around 88, so not too refreshing. Overall, a very nice stay and I would stay here again next time visiting Austin.

The hotel and staff have a very “hip” vibe. From the door signage, the retro use of record players in the lounge to the plaid cowboy shirts. I really enjoyed my stay. I had read reviews about the hotel being loud, well night 1 a couple of love birds had a marathon session that was quite impressive and confusing to awaken to. Night 2 very peaceful. I appreciate the snack bar in the room and the black-out door. Plus the air smells like jasmine all around the hotel. If I find myself in Austin again, I will bring my man and we will be the loud love birds!

We loved everything about the Carpenter Hotel! The room was fabulous, had enough space, had a balcony, a refrigerator and a fabulous shower! I have longer hair and it was no problem to wash my hair in the shower with the ample water pressure. The cafe has the most amazing coffee and treats in the morning. We didn’t have other food from the hotel so we can’t say how that is. The pool looked beautiful but we didn’t find time to make it in. We’ll definitely bring our swim suits next time! The staff are wonderful and we felt very comfortable and welcome! The property is immaculate and very well maintained! Thank you, Carpenter Hotel!
Love the hotel, room, feel and vibe. The customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Do not expect a concierge service here or any helpful suggestions if you are planning a special evening or getaway that includes this hotel. And the customer service is unacceptable and especially at the coffee bar and hotel bar. No hello, no thank you, no nothing. I had to ask for creamer, sugar and a lid. When I asked if they served food, she POINTED at the pastries on the counter. Only person that said good morning was the kind, hispanic lady mopping the coffee bar floor... probably won't go back. Not a very good value for my money.
I didn’t have a reservation and still got an awesome Large King room. The Check in process is super simple and the staff was excellent as well as helpful. The rooms are large and the bathrooms are so cool! Dinner in the dining room was perfection, I ordered the Butchers Cut Steak and it was immaculate!!! Breakfast was not good at all however so maybe skip that The landscape and the location make this a no brainer! Thank you Carpenter Hotel for making my impromptu trip something to remember. Highly Recommend!

Super cute and nicely decorated. It's an old worker's union builinding and it's great that the owners kept the building and a lot of the old charm and added modern touches. Lots of light and a pretty patio. Our server was super nice and helpful. We went there for brunch hoping for the heart-shaped waffles which were no longer on the menu but that's ok :) We had the pecan pie and I had the ruby red grapefruit salad. The food was fresh and of quality ingredients but I wasn't wowed by the flavors. We want to go back to try the dinner menu as we think there is potential. The iced latte which was delicious!
Great place to stay. Feels really relaxed and comfortable everywhere from the beautiful balcony rooms to the swimming pool and cafe. Our room overlooked a doggie hotel and it was the cutest thing to wake up too! The room’s bathroom was another stand out with beautiful blue tile and a great shower! Pet friendly too! Love the “text the hotel” feature where you can text the front desk to ask a question, make a request, order room service or anything you could need! The staff are great! Definitely will stay again!

A group of us stopped in before catching a show at the Zach. My fish was a bit undercooked for me. They accommodated my request for it to be cooked more. The second plate was plated differently. Not sure why but it looked better than the first plate (see pictures- second plate has onions). Drinks were slow to come out. The waitress was sweet. She did a few odd things but it wasn't anything that affected the evening. Everyone does things a little differently. She was really nice and attentive. The food was yummy. I even ate an olive and liked it!

The lack of in-room coffee makers was a rude awakening on my first morning, had to put on winter clothes (the hallways are outside and it was 33 degrees when I visited), walk to the lobby only to find out the coffee shop doesn’t open until 7am. Not exactly a convenient/comfortable experience for business travelers but nice to stop in for instagram photos. Be sure to visit the P Terry’s in front where they will happily serve you a full breakfast without pretense for the same price as one small coffee at the hotel…
The low rating is only bc I think they need to do a much better job communicating how small the rooms are and to not expect normal amenities that come with a hotel at this price point, for example, hangers, coffee maker, water, a fridge that fits more than a couple of cans, an ironing board.... And the parking situation is nuts. Other than that food is great, staff are nice, grounds are lovely, location is fabulous. So, if you're planning on not spending any of your time in the hotel, this hotel is great.
Service was great and our waitress (Brittain) was awesome! I threw some cocktails at her that most bars would ask me what's in that or tell me they don't have that. Instead she asked me if I had a preference of gin or bourbon. She not only knew what I wanted, but knew what went in it. THAT'S awesome service to me! So many places I've been to have no idea what classic cocktails are.

Fantastic experience!
Loved loved loved this place. I felt very comfortable, safe and relaxed. This place is close enough to downtown yet far enough to not be all up in the traffic. You can walk our ride a scooter to just about anywhere you want to sight see. Only downside was there wasn't enough room in the mini fridge to put any snacks or leftovers. You'll want to check out their cafe! Steak is amazing and their clam spaghetti is amazing. Food was AMAZING! Staff was so helpful when it came to exploring Austin.
Coming here felt like I was stepping into the 50's. The whole vibe made me think of how things must have been for my grandfather back in his hay day. Very suave, debonair, and chic. SUCH a cool experience at every single turn. The landscaping, the textiles, the architecture, and the food. All top notch! The staff went above and beyond to welcome my husband on his birthday! We will definitely be returning!

Very nice. Everything is beautiful and cool. Everything was nice and in good order. The sliding wood slap will make your room DARK! You could easily miss it...it is behind the wardrobe cabinet. There is a turn table in the lobby, and a collection of records. Go for it I'm a Led Zeppelin II side 2 guy, so that's what I out on. Restaurant and bar are both nice. Migas for breakfast was outstanding. My only real negative is too much concrete in the guest room. I loved the bed though!
Due to some unfortunate circumstances with our home, we ended up staying at the Carpenter Hotel for almost 2 weeks. We couldn’t have picked a better place to stay! All of the staff were very accommodating and extremely helpful during our stay, special props to Shelby and Erin at the front desk. The rooms are very nice and the food is great! Kudos for a creating such a great place in a great location!

I love this eclectic hotel. Most especially because I can bring my pup and the neighborhood is very dog friendly. Restaurant onsite is really nice. I ate outside and had a huge bibb salad. So good. The rooms are smart and and the little patios quaint. Coffee shop perfect for working but should add simple/flavored syrups for coffee. It's right across the street from an Enterprise car rental. Staff are nice! Rooms are super clean! Beds are on the firm side. What more do you need?
Although this hotel is in a bit of an odd location, the décor and the overall branding create an incredible guest experience. You would never know the hotel is there because the outside of it is quite ugly, but all of that and doesn't matter once you step inside. The food is of an incredible quality and the coffee shop is delicious. There's a lot of personality here and this is exactly what you would expect to find in Austin. I have not stayed here although the rooms look nice
Such a wonderful experience here. The staff was so friendly and we ended up having dinner at the hotel our first night and it was great! We utilized the pool, which is a very relaxing atmosphere. Most importantly, I slept GREAT here with the best blackout shade I've ever seen. SO quiet and dark. We walked both mornings to Barton Springs - location can't be beat! 10/10

So quaint, low key and close to everything on Barton Springs. We brought bikes during our stay and rode or walked nearly everywhere. The rooms are great, industrial yet cozy and inviting. We had everything we needed and our Lab loved it too! Breakfast at the restaurant was wonderful. We ate on the shaded patio, and the pool offered a relaxing hide away at the end of the day. The staff were all helpful and seemed happy to be there. Kid friendly /dog friendly.
Hotel has some simplicity & charm. I thought it weird they omit any conservative TV At minimum I would expect Fox Business news yet they have chosen not to have options of information. Restaurant was nice atmosphere. Menus in the restaurant may not be for everyone's taste. Bartender mixed good beverages and that was a plus. Will I stay again? Maybe due to its location but I will most certainly research the competition for the price prior to booking again.
I give this hotel 5 stars because it met my needs. Clean decent room in a good location. Very friendly and helpful staff. However. I will never stay there again. I did not appreciate the open to the outside hallways in 100 degree plus weather. The main part of the hotel looks like a parking garage. The rooms were very industrial with concrete floors. Block walls. Too prison like for my tastes.

Very cool hotel with a modern aesthetic. Everything in the hotel has such attention to detail, and the staff were really nice. Even though not many people do, it is definitely walkable to downtown, and we liked the location. We were a bit nervous from some the reviews saying the dogs next door were noisy but we didn't hear them at all, and we were right next to them. Would stay here again!

The last day is what gives it only 3 stars. My wife ordered a coffee and cinnamon roll. Took almost an hour to get to the room. We put the tag on the door for a room clean but no one showed. After a long day out I had to wait 40 minutes for clean towels that the front desk said would be right up. Also brunch there the previous day took long to get to our table even though we were there just after opening and only 6 other people there seated.
This hotel is darling! It looked like an old school as we approached the lobby, but is was home to a local trade union until 2014. Pecan trees, that are at least 100 years old, were carefully preserved during its renovation. The garden, stairwell, rooms offer a retro mid mod aesthetic. We went home wishing we could have stayed longer to try out the bar and restaurant! We’ll be back to enjoy our stay again while visiting our son. Well done!!
Amazing location, trendy hotel though with slightly cramped rooms. Feels a bit like the Ace hotel chain, but with an authentically Austin twist. The rooms have good finishings and the bed was not bad, though it was slightly firm. One big issue for us was loud wind noise and also other strange hallway noises of doors rattling. So bring earplugs just in case. Parking can be tricky here, though with enough perseverance you’ll find a spot.
We had an amazing stay here. This hotel is so unique and inviting. The rooms are so cool and the beds are very comfortable. Loved the tile work in the bathroom. We spent all afternoon by the pool which was extremely relaxing. The management was extremely professional and accommodating of our concerns. Overall this is the perfect Austin spot. Will be back!

Love the simplicity in materials and design of this hotel. Big rooms with large balconies (even though it’s too hot to sit outside when I was there). Nice restaurant and coffee bar in a old renovated carpenter hall building. Nice screened off private pool. The drop off is confusing when you first arrive - just park in the loading zone and go in just to check in. The rooms and parking are in the separate building around the corner.
Loved the awesome atmosphere here! Layout felt cozy even with the concrete floor. The location is great! Close enough to make you feel downtown without the downtown hustle and bustle. Ended up checking in on my birthday, and not being a big sweets guy, one of the chefs came up with something that was still a dessert without being traditional. Staff was super friendly and accommodating as well. All in all I'll be back for sure!
This retro hotel is very nice with a great atmosphere! Pretty decent location, close to terry’s bbq which you can walk to. My only issue is parking is not included and is about $35 per day.

Great service, a place you can experience Austin. Loved the bar/bartenders, and the cafe (wish there was coffee available before 7 though). Perfect location close to the park and Barton Springs pool. Bed was basically on the floor so people who don't bend so well anymore check to see if there are other options there. Lots of seating in the shade to meet friends or enjoy beverage on your own with a good book.
I probably passed by this place a hundred time and I never knew it existed! I read about the restaurant so I put it my my list of places to try and finally went with a few friends and absolutely loved it! As soon as you walk into the hotel area, it has such a throwback feel to it. The restaurant looks like a very nice modern version of a childhood cafeteria. Food was delicious and the staff was super nice!
Bartender Austin was rude, dismissive, and condescending. I wasn’t the only guest sitting at the bar who thought this. Brought it up to another waitress working and she informed me that he was actually the bar lead! Absolutely unacceptable behavior from a bar “lead”. Drinks were fine, food was fine, service was terrible. Not at all worth the price paid.

Loved everything about my few days at The Carpenter. It's a great spot to work remotely. Near downtown Austin and Zilker Park but feels very private and quiet. Walkable to South Congress. I would consider visiting Austin again just to stay there.

This place is awesome. It was the most relaxing hotel I've ever stayed at. Parking was ridiculously easy, check in was a breeze and the service was beyond amazing. I enjoyed the restaurant and loved the food/drink side service at the beautiful pool. Anytime I'm in Austin I'll be going here, and I'm so thankful I found this gem. PS the beds are really comfortable too
This hotel is absolutely stunning. It's right in the middle of everything in Austin and everything is walking distance down Barton Springs. We hosted a company client event last night and it turned out amazing. The staff was super friendly and everyone loved how the hotel truly represents the Austin culture. Just an overall warm inviting feeling if you ask me.
We are local to Austin but we love to come and hang here on the weekends in the coffee shop and pop into their restaurant. Super chill vibe, right by Zilker and riverwalk. Great vibes and cool people. Have done a staycation here too and had a great time.

My wife and I have been staying here for the last 3 days and we’ve been blown away by the kind staff, beautiful aesthetics and amazing food. It easy to see that the hotel is beautiful, but the service, people and food really took us by surprise. I highly recommend eating here and stay here. The lady bird coffee drink is really creative and delicious.
Planner here! I worked with the Carpenter Hotel for a wedding on 5/13/23. Becca and her staff were incredibly accommodating, great with communication, and the day-of staff did everything in their effort to ensure the wedding day went off without a hitch. My experience at Carpenter Hotel for their pool party was outstanding. The two gentlemen cooking on the grill were so nice and courteous, I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere was amazing. The staff at the gate were super nice, and the ladies giving out champagne were so sweet, one of them was named Ashley. Will definitely come here again.
The staff make this place a good stay. They are amazing. Loved the vibe of the place. Exactly what is advertised. Definitely wish they had a small fridge for our food, not just the mini fridge they sell out of. Possibly a kitchen option. The pool is also only accessible from sun up to sundow.

After hiking the Zilker Nature Preserve, I walked 30 minutes to the coffee shop inside this hostel. It was closed despite what they advertised on the website. No worries! The host let me order a hard cider and two warm chocolate chip cookies with sea salt on top and take it into the lobby area where there's seating, outlets and strong wifi.
The hotel is beautiful, so many details in the decor to give it a midcentury-modern Austin vibe. The courtyard is an airy green oasis. The staff were pleasant and polite. The pool was calm and relaxing. We got an excellent night sleep! The blackout rolling wall was a detail I’ve never seen before. The robes available add a level of luxury.
The bar is a beautiful set up, very modern and lots of light and air and wood. The drinks were about what I expected, which was good! The staff was also super friendly and accommodating, that was the highlight for me over all. I can't wait to come back and try the restaurant or maybe book a room if I am in the mood for a "stay-cation".
I did not stay. However, I could hear highly recommendation from people. I stopped by for breakfast with coffee. I liked their breakfasttaco style. I plan to stay there next time if I get the chance.

This review is for the restaurant, not the hotel. Trendy crowd with Austin’s comfortable but upscale vibe that is so prevalent here. Nice selection of wines and appetizers were creative, fresh and delish. Perfect late night spot. Will definitely revisit for same and make a plan to explore their menu for dinner.
This hotel is the epitome of hype. If you want to stay in a public pool changing room and pay 30x margins, go for it. If you want an *actual* hotel with basic amenities, nice rooms and pool, and reasonable pricing, try the Line off Caesar Chavez.

had a wonderful stay here for my partner’s birthday! The pool was heated and open in Feb, they offer poolside service. Would love if their hotel restaurant menu was labeled but they were able to accommodate some dietary restrictions. Great room, cool vibe overall, would definitely stay here again.
Stayed here for 3 nights on a recent stay in Austin. The hotel is pet friendly which is a big plus. The restaurant and coffee shop are great conveniences if you need a quick bite. There isn’t a gym on site but they have a partnership with a nearby gym so you can check that out. Highly recommend!
I was only here for the cafe but would definitely send family and friends from out of town to this hotel. Quiet and beautiful cafe / front desk area. It was very enjoyable to meet a new friend and have conversation here. Close proximity to downtown but tucked away on a quiet street. So lovely!
I've been here a lot since it opened. Pre-pandemic, the bar and restaurant service was some of the worst in the city but that's definitely turned around. The restaurant's food and service are excellent. It's a really nicely appointed space and a nice place to have a quiet dinner.
This place feels like a school, in the best possible way. So much light and the color combination is vintage and almost from the 90s. The hidden coffee shop has one of the best baristas in town and the restaurant is a perfect place for a photo shoot. Do not miss the pool area!!!
Good place, probably not something you want for a family vacation. I would call the aesthetic fairly masculine, and I loved every part of it! Just a note: there was no complementary coffee available, but the coffee you can pay for at the front was really good quality stuff.
What a wonderful experience! The hotel is so clean and aesthetically pleasing. I come here regularly for the coffee! Caesar is always so warm, welcoming, and polite. What better way to start the day with a hot cup of coffee from Caesar, a friendly face and a kind soul.
Food was excellent- the wedge with the shrimp, the quinoa and crispy rice as well as the torta. All were outstanding. Very fresh, flavorful and delicious. Will definitely be back. We sat inside but the outside patio looks nice - will have to try that next time. More
This is an excellent hotel with modern amenities. I love the style of the finishes in the room. Don’t under estimate the hotel food either. The fried chicken, is some of the best I have ever had in Texas. The friendly staff really make you feel welcome.

Fun, funky, cool little spot in an old carpenters union building. The building looks like a late 60's, early 70's build and they've kept that charm about the while place but modernized it to today's standards. Only stopped by for a drink,
This was an amazing boutique hotel in downtown Austin! The place doesn't look much from the outside, but it's really cool and trendy with some nice touches throughout. The place is also a lot bigger than I thought. The downside is there's
Really nice stay, all around. A total find. Unassuming when you pull up, even many locals have no idea it’s there. The restaurant, pool are great. They have music some nights. Friendly greetings from the staff. Will definitely be back!
