A very nice airport that serves as a hub for American Airlines. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is a bustling hub of travel located in Charlotte, North Carolina. As one of the busiest airports in the United States, it leaves a lasting impression with its efficient operations, modern amenities, and overall passenger experience while handling over 700 flights on a daily basis. I think that the airport's layout is well-designed and easy to navigate, with clear signage guiding travelers through the various terminals, concourses, and amenities. There are 5 terminals from A-E. The terminals are spacious, clean, and well-maintained, providing a comfortable and pleasant atmosphere. There is a wide range of dining options, from quick bites to sit-down restaurants, ensuring that passengers have plenty of choices to satisfy their hunger with most of them in the Central part of the concourse. Travelers will appreciate the airport's amenities, such as charging stations, free Wi-Fi, and comfortable seating areas. Additionally, the airport offers a variety of retail shops, including popular brands and local boutiques, allowing passengers to indulge in some shopping before their flights. There are many areas with rocking chairs located in front of windows to enjoy the view. Charlotte Airport's transportation options are extensive, with numerous rental car services, taxis, ride-sharing services, and public transportation available to cater to various travel needs. Overall, Charlotte Douglas International Airport provides a seamless and enjoyable travel experience. Its well-organized layout, excellent amenities, friendly staff and beautiful artwork make it a top-notch airport that sets a high standard for air travel.

My experience at Charlotte Airport was extremely disappointing. First and foremost, when a fire alarm went off, it seemed like nobody took any action or even acknowledged it. Safety should be a top priority, and this was concerning. Additionally, the baggage handling left much to be desired. The baggage personnel were the only people who apparently did leave the building due to the fire alarm, causing a significant delay in passengers receiving their luggage. It's frustrating when such delays are avoidable. The condition of the airport's bathrooms was appalling. They not only smelled horrible but also had literal running puddles of water that no one seemed to be addressing. Cleanliness and maintenance should be a basic standard. The water stations were no better. The filters were overdue for replacement, which is concerning given the importance of access to clean drinking water. Construction seemed to be everywhere, making navigation through the airport a hassle. It's understandable to have renovations, but it felt chaotic and disorganized. The baggage claim areas were a mess, resembling a dungeon rather than a modern airport. Everything appeared broken, and the lights were off their bases, creating a dismal atmosphere. To top it off, the baggage claim video screens were inaccurate, with our flight not even showing up correctly. Overall, my experience at Charlotte Airport was marred by a series of frustrating and disappointing issues that need immediate attention and improvement.

If you are going here I would definitely be sure to get there early. Not because of long lines or because it takes a long time to get through security. It is very unorganized! Where we parked we went to the elevators.... Well it takes you out on the back side! We literally had to go back up the elevator and then walk all the way across the other side of the parking lot to get to the the other elevators to get to the main building. The signs are all out of whack! We had to ask 4 different people just to get to the bag check. The sign even said it was but it wasn't... it was on the next floor up. We thought it was just complete disarray. I've once landed here before and all the people around me was all confused and asking each other how to get out because the signs... The signs need some work to direct people where to go. Once you get pass that part it's okay to navigate. Other than that it's okay. The staff, some were nice and helped us, especially getting my disabled boyfriend checked in and his wheelchair and they even got him on the plane and I appreciate that so much!!!!

Charlotte’s airport is a sprawling affair with plenty of ground to cover if you’re connecting between flights. It’s a few decades behind on design but newer parts of the structure make for a nice “reveal” if you are traveling through one of them. From old school sconce lights to boring 1990s tile on the floor, this place is stuck in a variety of eras and you’ll see some of that in my photos. The American club is a highlight for sure and seems reasonably updated and kept, despite how busy it is! A jaunt from any gate to any other should take under 15 minutes in 90%+ of cases. Of course the facility acts as a hub for American so you’re likely to come through here at some point if you travel with this airline. A bit of the delightfully modern end of terminal D is included in my photo set. Will upload more from the other areas next time I visit. Why 5 stars? The airport seamlessly achieves what it sets out to achieve and without much fuss. It’s not a glowing review, but I’ve seen much worse and left lower rankings accordingly. Maybe it’s no stunner but it’s also no slouch.

Boy oh boy! This place has outgrown itself . As soon as I got in I saw big crowds and construction. It may have to do with time of the day and the day. I am here on Sunday around 2pm. Big lines to the bathrooms that are too small. I should have used it at the Admirals Club but it has a funky smell so I left. Bathroom at the airport has bags with trash piled up. I heard one of the airport employees say that they are understaffed . They have interesting murals that I enjoyed. The airport is under construction and the TSA is very very slow , as in one minute plus per checking on a bag . My recommendation: bring a snack so you only need to buy water, allow a bit of extra time , around 2 hrs before domestic flight or so. Once again it maybe a single occurrence. And yes self - check out “place item” scale did not work , just bring what you need :-) and hope that it will be faster than it is for me . I am here on time and I got here about 1hr 45 mins prior to my flight. I just didn’t line up to buy anything to avoid crowds. Safe and happy traveling !

CHARLOTTE SUCKS - Poor design with zero thought for people flow. ZERO! This photo is typical for my trips through Charlotte... photo taken today - 11/12/23... not even a holiday... you couldn't pay me to fly through here on a holiday. Half the moving sidewalks didn't work. Had to pay to sit in a restaurant to have a seat for my 4 hour layover there were no seats in the concourse... place can't handle 1/3 the traffic of Atlanta in their 5 concourses. And getting from A to E concourse is a 30 to 40 minute journey. On both my recent flights through Charlotte, I'd get to my gate only to find out they moved the gate - to another concourse altogether. Of course I get the app update as I'm walking to my new gate. If you can't tell - CHARLOTTE SUCKS!!!

Airport is so nice and big. It is an international airport. American airlines runs large number of flights from here. Airport is so crowded and the airport is very clean and good. American Airlines runs the small flights which has seating of approximately 50 the flight is conjusted and it have to be improved. Airport has shopping, restaurants, coffee shops, starbucks, dunkin, bars and soon. Airport has many gates so we have to check the gate number on the display to check correct gate number where will be depature/arrival of flight. Because sometimes gate numbers will be changed by airlines. Airport has wifi but it have to be improved. Washrooms are very neat and clean. Large space and chairs for sitting.

I have nothing to say speaking on the airport, but food/respect with my flight in last minute mode. I ordered a double cranberry Tito’s through sycamore near terminal E41 today. I left to use the restroom, and was told I could not sit in the restraint without ordering when I returned. I stepped away. This place is very convenient, but the people working there and the respect of customers should and could have been adjusted. There was not enough traffic in the airport to demand me to step away after ordering and tipping. I hope this helps someone, and shows someone character matters. Thank you for reading, and I hope this review saves you time, patience, and overall satisfaction

Such a cool airport. Lots of nice shops and restaurants. It was a little confusing trying to figure out where to go due to construction...but it's ok...the nice staff here helped me out. I want to give a big thank you to Nicole R. in the Queen City Gifts and News shop. Such great service...everyone should shop there to meet Nicole And the architecture at this airport is absolutely amazing...if you love taking pictures of unique things...this airport will give you an opportunity to do it! Also has good Wi-Fi...a strong signal without having to watch a million ads to access. Definitely scores points for that

I took a connecting flight at the Charlotte international airport on December 2nd and I was surprised with the size of the Airport. I usually fly to and from Raleigh which is a small and not too busy airport, so I expected something similar from the Charlotte airport, but actually this airport has 5 terminals and for the date that I travel it was very crowded. This is a nice airport with lots of stores, restaurants, and it has plenty of moving walkways, but I don't recommend to do layover of less thank 1 hour since you could loose your connection flight ✈️

  • Kristy Wheeler

Charlotte Airport is huge!! This airport is lovely, my only complaint is some of the airline staff could be a little friendlier. TSA was great and did their job with professionalism: The airport itself has so many restaurants, stores, nap pods, and many other things to explore. As a Dog Mama, I really loved the but relief rooms. Anyone looking to get a beer or glass of wine - no worries Charlotte Douglass International Airport has all your needs covered!! Download their app for map and other information regarding all your flight needs.

  • Peng Hsu

This is one huge airport! A lot of constructions are still going on. Traffic is, of course, terrible. Inside the terminal, there are also constructions but not that many. TSA is the busiest section. It takes long time to pass like other airports. After the security check zone, there is a long walk to the gates. It's very spacious and neat. Bars, stores, and food lounges are convenient and many for your choices. Basically, I like this airport because it gives me a broad and comfortable feeling... A+

  • Prince Clarise Perimbie

It's always work in progress to upgrade over years with this amazing airport to give every traveler that comes via this port a seamless entry or exit. I'm a charlotte loca, and I have been going via this terminal for a long time and I every time I see a significant improvement from the booking parking online to the airport shuttle to the TSA checks. Sometimes, it's really a long queue at the TSA check, so please always check the live TSA wait times online to make sure you don't miss a flight.

  • Cassey Hawkins

I absolutely detested this airport. They had a great variety of food including chick fil a, BBQ and cinnamon BUT they put like 6 gates RIGHT next to each other without enough seating. What the heck?? It was like going through a mob of people to get to the bathroom. Also it seemed like all of the gates were boarding at the same time. I gave it three stars because I liked the Xmas decorations and the trees indoors.

  • B Red

The TSA line is a joke, the line is longer then regular line. People cutting in everywhere. Trash everywhere. They don't have Clear. Make sure you get there early. Car rental is attached to airport so no extra steps there, that was helpful. Gate A did not have any seating at last 4 terminals near at end. Bathrooms were not clean. Third time through here this year. I would say if you have another option take it.

  • brian sink

This airport has ridiculously long lines for screening. The photo was taken at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. I spent an hour in this line, the lines are always going to be at best, 30 minutes. The TSA agents range from okay to on a power trip. No amount of renovation will ever get this dump up to standard. Unfortunately it's home airport but every year it gets more crowded and the airport can't handle it.

  • Rachel P.

The TSA Checkpoint wasn't too bad considering the number of people walking through. It took me 20 minutes exactly 7:23 to 7:43am. The employees seemed helpful and the male employee on the bull horn was extremely helpful in getting the line to move quickly. He told everyone not to rush and if someone behind was rushing you, then they need to do better and get to the airport earlier next time .

  • Mr. Branham

Standard airport international airport. I would say fairly large has plenty restaurants, even gift shops. New stands your typical things that also has the express walkways inside that help you get to where you need to get to faster. Well lit decent decorations, large signs so you can find your gates. Everything seems to be in english. They even also have a shoe shine stand if that's what you need

  • oral ollivierre

Airport expansion construction underway but still a great airport to travel through. It has tons of convenient upgrades to make your travel smooth and comfortable. My favorite is the large gate area seats that are super comfortable and have built-in wireless charging on the armrests and 110 outlets underneath. No need to search for a charging station for your devices.

  • Arkansas mama

Not a bad airport..I like the set up and it's laid out nice. They have lots of food options tho not many chain restaurants which usually do have better prices. I appreciate that they have a lot of directories thru out that help you know the options and how to navigate the airport. It is a bigger airport so definitely give yourself a little time to get to your gate.

  • Jennifer Hubner

Really nice airport. Lots of signs with helpful information like how long your walk is to each section. Lots of food options available during your wait. Airport staff is friendly and helpful. There is also some shopping available. The terminals are easy to navigate and not confusing. Lots of flights going in and out of this airport. Not a bad airport for a layover.

  • Karina Chung

The ambiance is excellent and always makes my layovers here more enjoyable. There are rocking chairs under a row of trees, rocking chairs on the 2nd floor of the atrium looking out the large windows, and live music (pianist). I only pass through for layovers, so I cant speak to the security process. Gates are well labeled, and I appreciate the variety of shops.

  • Javi Serna

Nice and clean airport, friendly staff and despite that loose and connected flight had time to visit from A to D. Be aware that there is a little walk of you are in a hurry. Looks like is a AA hub and first time in my life that the queues for international passengers are smaller than national. Will come to visit city and surroundings.

  • Lila Baniya

We had excellent experience during our lay over time at this airport . American Airlines had promotion Programme where we participated won something too …. Great customer service by Starbucks sales ladies as she understood our urgency and delivered our order early . we enjoy hot coffee latte before boarding American Airlines

  • Karl P

The whole thing is under construction. The old part of the airport is dim with low ceilings. Checking in with delta is inconvenient because everything is cramped because of the construction and their baggage conveyor belts are still under construction. You have to leave your bags on a cart which is loosely guarded at best.

  • Judgy_Josh

There are a a lot of wrong with this airport. I am not sure where the start. Just check the video how illogically the gates are positioned next to each other that creates a chaos during the boarding of the two gates at the same time. The only thing that was convenient the fact that rental car drop of was by the terminal.

  • Badam Ramesh

Charlotte Airport is one of the major Airports in USA. Ambiance is very good. Staff ensure that the place is good and maintain clean. Staff response is good Security checkin staff are polite and respectful Airport has wide range of shops. It’s good place to buy different chocolates and duty free liquor is best buy option

  • Undefined Silver

Short trip here. Airport seemed warm to me but it could have been from all the construction going on. Got through the airport ok. A little confusing coming back through to leave. Hard to navigate to the upper floor to get to departures. But overall not too bad. Avis customer service was spot on. Nice people overall.

  • Mike Shank

Used to be one of my favorite airports. Now it's very crowded, gates are too small to accommodate passengers so aisles are blocked. Wifi is terrible - spotty at best if you can get it. There are some nice places to eat and to sit but the crowds make them inaccessible. Sadly outdated facility. Too many delays.

  • Wesley Valverde

Imagine a massive trailer park with a bunch of air planes that are running late and understaffed. Despite it being one of the largest east coast airports, all ramp workers are allowed to chill and lounge inside the airport… taking naps/breaks inside the concourse. (How many high vis vests do you see?)

  • Danielle Harding

Very crowded airport, took me 20 minutes to be able to be picked up due to the drop off and pick up zone being on the same level. However, airport is expanding and lots of construction so hopefully they will be able to alleviate these issues in the future. Overall very clean and friendly staff

  • Anthony Archibeque

Charlotte Airport used to be a really nice airport to fly into. For the last few years since its expansion, it is a massive disappointment. It is super crowded, and while easy to navigate, it's just not a pleasant experience. There are plenty of food options. The USO is serviceable.

  • Bryan Ensign

This airport was incredibly busy. The terminal seating is extremely limited compared to the size of the planes and it is very very crowded all the time. The bathrooms are clean and there's plenty of places to get snacks and eat. All of the staff is very courteous and professional.

  • Richard Hamilton

What a great airport — easy with all the necessities covered. Can’t tell you how many times I have gotten to an airport super early with no food or beverages. I got in at 7am to a beautiful sunrise and kicked back with a toasted bagel and a cup of coffee and a rocking chair.

  • Nancy Han

This airport needs a refresher big time. Always super crowded and packed packed with tons of people. No place to sit and line to AA desk is like 2 miles long. I do not wish to be stoped over here ever but that means I need to stop fly with AA which is the right thing to do.

  • Patrice P.

This airport is huge! We missed our flight and had to spend 10 hours here but this place is big and there are so many stores so you can waste time. It's like a mini mall. You can even get a mani pedi. All of the staff was friendly and the bathrooms were kept clean.

Was flying through Charlotte Airport for the very first time today, but must say that my first impressions were very good. Really nice airport, nice looking main terminal and it us also pretty well organized and easy to navigate through it.

  • Haynes Gibbs

No security line at terminal A! Definitely a pleasant surprise and a first for me! Everyone was very polite. On my way to my gate(A10), I walked by at least 3 little open bars tucked in between gates and a multitude of bathrooms with water

VERY high-traffic/high volume airport. Plentiful food options. Would take 10-20 minutes to walk from one end to the other, depending on foot-traffic. Not including terminal E. The whole airport is under construction which is causing many

The airport is huge and it takes long time to go through different terminals. If you dont have enough time for connection it can get tricky very easily. I have been in such situation before and it was a sprint race to catch a flight :)

  • Alex Melendez

One of my favorite airport to fly into. Their terminals have so much space, it never feels crowded. I love the rocking chairs they have. They have the best variety of food spots to pick from. Their restrooms are always well maintained.

A nice small airport. Nothing too special but definitely maintained nicely which is appreciated. WiFi is pretty weak at the airport. If you need to download shows for watching on the plane, do it before you get to the airport.

The piano player gives an unexpected and pleasant atmosphere upon your arrival! Trees and rocking chairs are nice touches. Lots of food options and clean bathrooms. Easy to get from one terminal to another.

  • Real world pew pew (The BLUR)

Very nice airport, the more you walk, the more you see. Just when you thought you're seen it all, there is more to eat . Everything is easy to access and the lines are not that crazy.

  • Joe Acosta

Nice to come back home to a 9/11 Memorial Service at our exit. Now if they could only do something about that walk! It is just too long of a walk from the gates to the baggage claim.

  • Engi89

Just a normal large airport. Fairly straightforward in the directions and no major issues. I had no issues with my 50 minutes transfer for my domestic flight via American Airlines.

  • gary scheib

Well designed hub for American with a central terminal giving access to all five concourses. Great selection of eateries. Overall an easy airport to navigate and connect in.

  • C Prescott (MzCyri)

I haven't seen much comments on the terrible wifi. I hope they rectify it sooner rather than later especially as its a benefit and standard for international travelers.

Love to fly and see different airports. Charlotte easy and comfortable to get to and thru. Many different eating and shopping venues to help in your travel needs.
