The people there are very friendly and if you ask, they will tell you a lot about their program and their animals. But the place is not really nice. Just some simple cages and a few animals. It's not really made to display the animals, just to house them. The place is small and if you're not lucky enough to get a tour with a talkative enough employee, you are done with your visit after 10-15 minutes. Unless, of course, you book an encounter with one of the animals. But even that is happening in a cage that is very plain. Other cages all around. No great scenery. Yes, you get your picture with that cheetah and you can touch it, but somehow the whole thing doesn't feel very customer oriented. It's OK, because they are a preservation project, but it could be much more interesting, engaging and enjoyable if it were not so very basic. At least, R10 is a very small price and if you are in the area anyway, it is worth a visit.

Before deciding to visit the Cheetah Outreach, I did lots of research on places that allow people to interact with the animals. I’m very careful to not support places that abuse animals, just trying to make profit and just not ethical. I found the cheetah outreach to be the only place that was ethical with a goal in mind. Their goal is to inform and educate farmers to use other ways to protect their livestock from cheetahs rather than use lethal ways. Cheetah Outreach even breeds livestock protective dogs for the farmers. We chose to do an experience to pet one, and no the cheetah is not drugged or controlled in anyway to stay. He even gave us a little purr while we pet him. The staff were all very knowledgeable and we learned so much. I would highly recommend for people and families who can have well behaved children.

We enjoyed our visit immensely. We touch and enjoyed patting cheetah,my 5 yr son was so excited and had a chance to feel and touch cheetah under supervision. we spend 10-15 mintues.A staff has taken more pictures and videos of our time with the Cheetah . The handlers were knowledgeable and respectful of the animals, giving advice on what to do and what not to do to make the experience pleasant for the animal. Also we got to see feeding cheetahs. Their main goal is to saving the cheetah . There are some other animals meerkats, tortoises, livestock gaurding shepard dog. The entry fee is R5 per person and for cheetah encounter R 170 per adult / R 120 per child we loved the experience. Go if you can!

A lovely outing to a beautiful place. The outreach is right next to somerset west, so it's not a long drive into the middle of nowhere, but the location is still beautiful and clean. It's very inexpensive for entrance if you're not paying for an encounter. There is a lovely coffee shop and gift shop too. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly and are very passionate about giving you a good, safe experience while still making sure the animals are safe and taken care of too. Even if you don't pay for an encounter, it's a lovely space to walk around and experience some animals you wouldn't usually see. The outreach not only rescues animals, but also breed dogs to try and protect cheetahs from being killed on farms.

If you want to get a closeup look at a cheetah this is an excellent opportunity to do it. The staff is friendly and they make sure you feel safe. We chose to do the normal encounter with the photo op. There was a handler there at all times holding the cheetah. They give you time to pet them before snapping a few photos. An employee takes most of the pictures of your time with the cheetah and then they give you back the camera to take a few of your own. However, because they’re allowed to be much closer to the cheetahs we found that their pictures were better than any they we could have gotten on our own. They also have fox, some cervals, and tortoises to see while you’re there.

Underwhelming experience. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable but there’s really not much to do or see. They have 7 cheetahs. The “cheetah encounter is simply just a photo-op where you get to see one up close while on a leash. I appreciate the great work they’re going to protect the animals from extinction and this is a great organisation but not a great attraction at all for visitors. They also charge you extra for paying with a card. This extra fee also seems to be made up on the spot. We were told 3% extra but others were charged up to 7% which is interesting because they use YOCO card machines which charge 2.6% - 2.95% per transaction according to their website.

A bit of a wait to get in with only one lady handling the entrance fee and fielding questions, particularly being peak visiting season. Would recommend a prominent display at the main door with pricing which would enable those waiting in the queue to make up their mind before getting to the reception desk, thereby avoid delays from visitors trying to decide on their options. Highlight the animal activity times i.e. at a low midday in summer season. For a good cause and trust the revenue will be put to good use. Pleasant day trip and the children enjoyed the cub interaction.

Great experience. Everyone is fully committed to the animals. You will get a chance to see the gorgeous cats. The feeding tour itself is worth. The staff is really informative and show us little tricks with cats. Loved it. We also took the Cheetah Encounter tickets. Again It was a good experience. You can feel, touch and see the cheetah under supervision. I regret not to ask for a small video. Otherwise it is recommended place. They also run some animal conservation program. P.S.If you are looking for discount then you can use FNB entertainer (if you have FNB account)

Wow!! You get to pet a cheetah if you get the interaction ticket! It seems like they actually enjoy it since they purr like a regular house cat when you do it. They say if they sense the cheetah does not want to be touched that day, they won't force it and go to the next. The handlers will take plenty of photos for you while in the enclosure. You can also see a few other animals here and do interactions with those If there are handlers available. The cheetaha do get a break from 1-2 but it's when they're feeding other animals which was fun to watch

This is such an amazing place. It is a fun way to educate the public about the plight of the cheetah and the fact that they are endangered. The staff is nice and will take pictures with your camera I am so happy to have been able to PET a CHEETAH!! both cubs and an adult. Just seeing these majestic cats play with each other was quite an experience. Their shop is also inexpensive and offers a lot of high quality and unique items. If you are in Cape Town, South Africa and would like to pet a large, beautiful cat, please go to Cheetah Outreach.

  • Ryan Thomas

They're doing great work here. Animals (incl. cheetah, jackals, meerkats, tortoises, serval, etc.) are well-cared for and have sizeable enclosures. Very affordable general access (R20pp) but there are guided tours available. Not a massive establishment but a great visit nonetheless. Plenty of parking available. Place is situated in a boomed-off business complex. Covid protocols are in place on arrival. Note that they use cash only, including in the gift store, which is a bit of an inconvenience in the 21st century.

  • Charlotte Randelhoff

NOT what I expected. The handlers of these beautiful creatures think they own them. Just to stroke the cat, they have two people holding the poor thing. I had hoped that we could interact a little more, but that costs extra. At least I had a photo taken, but I had to somehow try to erase the one handler as I didn't want her in all my pics. Thought they weren't wild??? They've been raised in captivity....

The mission of Cheetah Outreach is a difficult one. On my visit to this animal sanctuary, the struggle to keep it open was quite obvious. The neighborhood around it is urbanizing and closing in fast. More residential buildings are being erected in the neighborhood, while nature is retreating. It's clear that Cheetah Outreach needs more public funds to stay afloat, especially because the Corona pandemic reduced the number of visitors and, consequently, funds generated by attendance.

  • Lizna Boshoff

We enjoyed it, the only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because we were not informed of the griund tours when we bought our tickets for the cheetah encounters, things seemed unorganized and hurried at the front of house. The sanctuary itself was in good form with good information signs about each individual animal. The animals all looked healthy and the tour guides was well informed and could answer all our questions.

  • Chris Visagie

Amazing and such loving souls working with the cats and other animals. We were privileged enough to go on a day with perfek weather. Entry is R10 during the week and R5 on weekends per person. The outreach is very neat and conservative. Take the family there! The programs they are running are very important and if there are any donations out there, please let them go towards this outreach. They are open to volunteers.

  • Ananja Beaurain

Very clean, well kept wild animal sanctuary. The kids enjoyed walking around and trying to spot the animals. It's not very big, but the staff are friendly and the tour is interesting. It's never crazy busy and you even have the option of petting the Cheetahs if you buy the Cheetah encounter tickets. Nice place to keep you busy for an hour or so. Nice little souvenir shop with quite a variety of different gifts.

  • Lauren Crooks

Went to Cheetah Outreach on a short trip to Cape Town and was super impressed by the staff's knowledge and expertise. They clearly know the animals' behaviour very well and do what is best for them. They were also great in ensuring we were calm and confident when interacting with the cheetahs as to not make them feel uncomfortable. Great ambassadors for our wildlife and conservation efforts!

  • Charlé Steyl

Unique experience, very well run facility with focus on conservation. We booked a VIP private interaction and it was amazing to have such a close encounter with a cheetah! The guides explained everything clearly, and were very good at assisting during the interaction. Funds from the centre go towards cheetah conservation through a livestock guarding dog project. Well worth a visit!

  • Ken Mahood

I was apprehensive that I would be reading horror stories of the animals' histories, but was pleasantly surprised. I saw my 1st Bat-eared foxes. Encountered a carer carrying a tray full of baby Leopard Tortoises, an ooh-aah moment. Loved the Meerkat playing, rather roughly, with his carer.

Neat place, but fairly small. Tours are supposedly available on the 30 of every hour, but often the guides are busy hosting encounters, so they don't do them. We didn't feel right about petting cheetahs (yes, these are all breeder on site, but...), so opted for just entry and a tour but no one was available. Without explanations, it's 20-30m max there.

  • Lottie C

Loved this place. Was recommended by a customer who uses our cattery in Ireland and was so delighted to have the opportunity to have an experience with the cheetahs. We also got to see the feeding of all the animals. The staff were lovely and so knowledgeable. Would highly recommend a visit and the money is well worth going to such a wonderful charity

  • Luke George

Great cheetah encounter experience. At Cheetah Outreach they are trying to spread awareness about lethal methods of protecting live stock and therefore killing off cheetahs. We do have an effective method and its through the guard dog programme. By the way - you can also get your picture taken with one of these beautiful cats

  • Aldred Dreyer

Great experience. You can adopt an animal as well. On this day we didn't get to see the Cheetah's as they were all lazing in the shade. There are paid for experiences where you can touch a cheetah and watch them feed the animals.

Neat experience. Gorgeous cats. We got to meet Tobias. Wish you could get up close and interact with some of the other animals on the property. Staff is informative and they will take plenty of pictures of you and/or your group with the cheetahs. Make sure you plan on enough time since you’re on ‘cheetah time’.

  • Sharon's Couch

Amazing smiling staff made the trip as memorable along with the clean, neat place and guidance to make sure you enjoy your experience. Been there before for my birthday and took my friends from America for a visit which was a highlight to them. Thank you for making our visit a joyful, learning experience.

  • Tanja Nayak

Lovely place which is focused on promoting cheetah conservation through a shepherd dog program. All profits go towards providing dogs to farmers which in turn prevents cheetahs from being shot by farmers to protect their livestock. A great place!! Has a variety of animals for visitors to see.

  • Mark Snell

We visit here whenever we are in the area. Very inexpensive and well worth a visit, allow about an hour. Not a great deal to see but very interesting. Photo shows Anatolian Shepherd dogs which is the basis of the visit. Also very good little cafe a few minutes walk from the Outreach

  • Josh Greenslade

Very good experience, its only 10 rand if you want to look around or 160 for adults & 100 for kids if you want to come into contact with a Cheetah. The staff were very helpful and where was a lot more then just cheetahs to see. Certainly worth going if you are close!!

  • Roger Timmermans

They do good work to save the animals. I would not recomend tondo animal encounters. Just because of the animal wellness. Better give a good tip as the entrance fee is just 10 Rand.

A wonderful experience with the cheetahs! A fantastic initiative, so impressed that there is NO cheetah breeding programme and farmers are being educated about the pros of having their stock protected by an Anatolian sheepdog. The guides were very informative. More

  • Arwinder Luther

This was a great experience seeing these magnificent animals up close. So much to learn here. And there are several other animals to see as well. This is about 30 minutes from the airport and is a perfect spot to spend an hour of you have time before the flight.

  • Nantarat Nun

Such an experience!! Love it. Staffs are helpful and knowledgeable (most of them). The sun is strong so make sure to have sunscreen on. We had special experiences session and also view the feeding session. Make sure to follow instructions and you’ll be fine.

  • Adam Snyman

Amazing facility. Guides could give more a bit more info but they do ask the public if they have questions. It's a lovely experience and the animals seem happy and content.

Fantastic place. Very educational. Interestingly, not the cheetas are the main reason for the location. They don't even breeding Cheetas there ( they're from Pretoria). Instead, the dogs they're breeding are the starring! Go there and see why!

Great outing to this little gem. Place needs more people to come through the gates. Mainly volunteers from Europe giving of there time to raise awareness of the plight. Beautiful animals that you can interact with as well
