Very happy that we stumbled across this place. Chez Tao is a hard working, well-functioning restaurant. Drinks and dishes were executed perfectly and came out with speed. The drinks were tasty and nuanced, the food flavours were all on point. We ate and drank more than usual, mainly because it was worth it! A definite strength of this place was the service - Our host, Rosemary was as efficient and thoughtful as she was cool. It’s always nice to see proficiency at work - she made the evening memorable for my fiancé and I. Vibe is a little dark and cozy, balanced with a loud and legit 90s to 2000’s playlist - (think A-trak, Bloodhound Gang to Eifel 65, Cranberries + all the hip hop you know the words to). This was appreciated, especially at the volume to which it was played at. Chez Tao (& Rosemary!) our experience is one that should be shared in detail for the entire internet to see. Thank you for being an example of when doing it right totally makes the evening for two people. We appreciate it. We will be back and telling our friends that this is a must-visit spot in Quebec City!

Chez Tao! is a fresh newcomer on the burgeoning gastropub scene of Quebec City. They're aligned on offering various types of Asian street food, with a firm focus on Thailand. The place is small and its size is reflected in the overall atmosphere, which would be cozy and intimate but still lively at the same time. The food is simple, fresh and free of pretentiousness. The goal is to offer the same kind of culinary experience one would get from Bangkok's street vendors but in a more traditional Occidental restaurant setting. The owners and main bartenders are two fixtures of the local "mixology" scene who have won various awards and competitons and they have created a selection of drinks that are simple in appearance, but have depth and a rich palette of flavours. There's a lot of love in that place. It's definitely a spot to visit and to watch in 2018.

If you’re looking to get off the tourist track, you owe it to yourself to head over to Chez Tao - small boisterous room full of locals who know a good thing when they see it. Extensive and imaginative drinks menu ( yes the icons next to the drink describe the vessel your drink arrives in. Yes that’s a Lucky cat, a Buddha, and a Panda bear) and you’ll want a seat within view of the bar when the really crazy sh1t goes down, like the magical smoking box drink. Menu is straight out of Bangkok with authentic spicy and flavourful street food inspired plates. Nasi Gorang was properly sweet and spicy and sticky and lovely. Pad See Ew was possibly the best on this continent .Beef Spring rolls in lettuce subtle and sublime. This Is a very good restaurant and you need to patronize it when you are in Quebec City. Damn right I’m going to throw down 5 stars.

At first, I was skeptical when I stepped into this dimly lit and crowded space which promised Thai cuisine and yet did not visually promise an authentic Thai experience. When asked to be served I was told a table of two could take upto 90 minutes and with no wait list to put down my name, I was a little critical! When I was finally seated, it was a pleasant dining experience! The staff was very friendly and the cuisine was delicious- bao burgers and the tasty bowl of pho with its sweet and savory broth were delicious and very filling. Finally a Thai restaurant with a unique flavor profile! Definitely try the pho, it's warm and comforting. What's more is that the staff does not rush you out despite the potential wait for other customers. I would definitely come back!

What a hidden gem! Being from New York, we had no expectation of other cuisine than French. However, this Asian cuisine bar has so many different cocktails and great foods. Every cocktails has their own glassware which was super cool! It was our most memorable experience during Quebec trip because of their hospitality. Entire staffs were very kind and welcomed us especially Kevin, the bartender was very knowledgeable and loves what he does. He totally made our night super special. Surprisingly their foods were really good and authentic that we ended up ordered 2 more dishes lol. They open pretty late compared to other restaurants so if you are looking for a great drinks or craving some delicious foods, give it a try (You won’t regret it) I highly recommend this place!

I’ve been to a lot of pubs but none which had the best Music, drinks and food! They are located not too far from the main city And are quite a small and cozy place. The ambience inside is nothing like this though. They have great music blasting and the lighting is low yet, ample. Do true their Fried chicken, a must have! Their vegetable Pad Thai was out of the world as well! They have these funky glasses that they serve the cocktails which add a certain appeal! While the presentation is great, they taste amazing and have the right amount of alcohol in them as well! All in all, I would defiantly visit here when I stop by or visit Quebec City again!

Drinks are way too expensive for what they are. Sure, they're served in weird "glasses" (more like vases really), but none of the ones I've tried were great. The hiphop music doesn't really fit the place and is way too loud. The food was good, but it's not worth the hassle of trying to find a parking spot (good luck with that) and dealing with that "ambiance". Some people in our group seemed to like the place, so I'll still rate it 3 stars, but it would've been a 2 from my girlfriend and I.

  • Jasmine Hompal

The food was delicious Give a try to their Geisha drink if you like lime refreshing flavor. You won’t regret it!! Gosh the bartender was so cute haha Thank you for assisting me in English ❤️ They give complimentary Tequila shots lol in the end. If they could provide bigger portions of the food for the amount they charge it would be great and make me wanna come back more. $20 for small portion of Pad Thai doesn’t feel right in some way ‍♀️

  • Andre Yeu

I am vegan and enjoyed the Vegan Banh Mi sandwich and the Vegan Bao, as well as their deep fried oyster mushrooms. The flavours are complex and we really enjoyed every bite. Of course, the portions are moderate in comparison to old school Chinese or Viet restaurants, and I would not recommend this to someone who wants cheap and massive portions. If you enjoy elevated Asian food, give it a try. Oh and the staff were very nice and helpful.

  • Scott Carnahan

Very solid menu; all the famous dishes of the region. Very reasonably priced. Everything we ordered exceeded expectations. Even got a thai-basil gin bomb made on the fly that turned out amazing. Service was also above and beyond (restaurant was a little less busy than usual so that may be the cause)

Bao Bun Pork Belly

  • Circo9

This resto bar has a really cool decor /vibe with a big cocktail menu. For food, they serve Cambodian "street style" dishes. I had the Bao tao pork and bao tao fried chicken. The fried chicken is out of this world. I highly recommend taking it solo (not in a sandwich) as I though the bao buns suppressed the flavours of the meat. Even the pork was delicious (crispy and fatty), but again, the tasteless buns masked the flavours.

  • Tania Lambert

Food and service are really great! We shared the fried chicken and some pork Bao tao and it was crazy good. Pair that with one of their summer drinks or beer and it's almost enough of a meal. Our main courses were the chicken Pad Nam Jim Gai and a shrimp Pad Thai. They were also pretty good. It's the same price as what you'd expect anywhere else so all in all, great place and we would definitely go back.

Love this place! The food is awesome especially the steam bun(Bao), which is incredible. Drink is also lovely by all means. Our server Jade is wonderful and incredible! One of the best services I have got so far! Definitely worth a visit if you like some fusion Asian food.

My partner and I had a wonderful meal here. Cocktails are awesome - best pina colada ive ever had. We got the yellow curry, pork bao buns, lemongrass beef. Everything was good, the pork bao was exceptional. Creme brulee for dessert was cheap and yummy!! Servers were lovely, too! Would come back any time :) merci!

We were staying in the neighborhood and found this place the other week. Wow. Can't stop talking about how good the food was. The fried mushrooms, vegan bao buns, tofu pad see ew was excellent. The bartender was very kind and helpful (and was patient despite our lack of French!). I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Quebec and hope to return someday soon.

  • Bertrand Lirette

Third time there. I had to get the Fried Rice Chicken since that’s what I got the first time I was there and it was the best I ever had. The fried chicken was also very good, highly recommend it. Great original cocktails too! Overall, the price is low for what you get. Plus, how awesome: they play 80s hits all night long. That’s worth 5 stars. Kudos to the owner!

  • Jérémie Lamothe-gémus

Had the bao buns and omg it was so delicious. My friends kept yelling me to come here and i finally did, it surely did not disappoint!!! Will definitly be back. Service was super friendly but still professional. 10/10

Highly recommend. I don’t eat alone often, but the staff made me feel welcome and comfortable—merci! Everything was tasty. I tried a cocktail, two fried items, and a salad; Tod Man Moo was especially delicious. I also really appreciated being asked my preferred language instead assuming English since I’m anglophone. Cool vibe, good food, can’t go wrong.

Imagine a cool place where all the hip and artsy types used to go but they don't go there anymore because the normies found out about it and now it's just completely lame. Unfortunately the staff have noticed the change in patronage and treat the customers accordingly.

The Cocktails, The Staff & The mood is awesome. The food... Its not bad but if you are used to authentic south asian food, you know where they want to bring you. I liked the experience alot but if you go, dont expect perfectly executed recipes for the classical meals like the Som Tam. I recommend a visit to have a super good time with your friends.

  • Andrew Schundler

I’m giving five stars for the drinks and service. Exceptional service and very fun atmosphere. Lot of great drink options and even with a larger menu each drink was being made there on the spot and wasn’t pre-made. The food was closer to 3 stars, a bit flavorless. But even with the lower quality food still wanted to give these guys 5 stars.

  • Sophie Cournoyer

Love the food, one of my favourite place to eat. My only complaint would be that the music is so loud that I couldn’t talk with my friends, we ended up leaving after we ate to go to another place. Would just be awesome that we can actually understand each other if we go for drinks.

We absolutely loved the service and the food. It was extremely welcoming for tourists in Quebec! A cool, fun vibe. Our server, Kevin, was an absolute gem of a guy. He was attentive to anything we needed and always ensured we were satisfied. The food and drinks were delicious - service was quick and timely. Definitely will go again!!!

  • Max Belleau

One of the best place to start, end or even pit stop the night. Drinks are designed by Quebec top Mixologue. Great selection of cocktail, made with fresh ingredients and top of the shelf liquor/alchool. Music is handled by people with good taste and def set the mood for a cozy night. 100% would recommend for any tourists or locals.

  • Xiaonan Du (Xiaonan)

The food are amazing, the staffs were so nice. My friend and I had our first meal here, we got lots of info from the staff of the menu. The papaya salad was very flavorful, the pad Thai was amazing too. Great experience, highly recommend.

Delicious food, great service, interesting neighborhood. Nice to know there’s a great place for Southeast Asian food in Quebec City. The only thing that I feel would be a bother for some patrons is that they don’t have an English menu but the servers were really helpful (and we used the Google Translate app lol)

  • Chris Martin

Tiki style drinks + Vietnamese food worked really well together here. As a visitor to Quebec City, it was great to get away from the touristic places in Old Town. The bartenders and clientele were fun, and the set cocktail menu was really good. I'd totally recommend this place to tiki or cocktail connoisseurs.

Over priced. Food was brought but no utensils. Food was average quality. The cocktails were good. It's more of a drinking than a food joint. A cocktail is $10 plus. Had the shrimp pad Thai $13 for the portion, came with 4 shrimp and was a smaller than average portion. Sandwich was a snack sized portion.

  • amit jain

Anyone visiting Quebec City must make a stop here! Not only were the food amazing and drinks great but the staff is so friendly and welcoming! Ambience and music is amazing too! We went for our Wedding Anniversary dinner and these guys hooked us up! Thanks for an amazing night guys!

Best pork bao bun ever! This was an intimate and super cool spot for dinner. Very extensive and creative cocktail menu and the food was equally as good! Buns were a hit and absolutely loved the khao soi. No reservations, but worth the wait!

  • Melissa Naja

Impressive Thai restaurant with some local of Thailand style of decoration and dishes. Somehow the cocktail has Chinese influence style. Tao is Chinese , so I guess the owner just like Asian style so this place has lots of mix Asian stuff

  • Crystal Aguilar

Cute little place but extremely loud inside like … no matter where you sit, you are under a speak at full blast. I think of you want to talk with your friends, it would be best to use the outside tables. Staff was nice, service was quick.

  • Sylvia Stipich

Great atmosphere, music and deco. Kitchen is open late so we got food and this place has a ton of vegetarian and vegan options. We had vegan banh mi and a veggie pad see ew plus the fried mushrooms. Ask for the English menu and enjoy.

  • Susan Mochnacs

Terrific dining experience! Tiki cocktails are crafted with care and attention to details. The 4 Thai and Chinese dishes we ate far surpassed those we had at highly-rated “authentic” restaurants in QC. 10/10– highly recommend!

  • C.A. Tremblay

Very creative drinks menu made with signature, "tiki inspired" glasses and mugs. Delicious thai food with great sharing options. Great ambience and Pretty Affordable. Staff is really cool; you'll have a heck of a night there!

  • Zheming Yuan

From the menu I see creativity and great influence from some of the best bars around the world. But the execution is way behind, the owner or the GM should spend more time to assure the quality.

Chez Tao is absolutely my fav bar in Quebec city. From the cocktail menue to the food, everything is delicious! The only problem is that it's tiny bit small so you might have to wait a bit in line but it is totally worth it!
