It is indeed a marvel where history, art and culture all packed into one. Interestingly, this museum is fully autonomous. It is a PPP model that runs it. Entry fee for Indian nationals is 150/- . Audio guide which comes with an player and a headphone costs Rs.50/- (You need to submit an original id in order to get this. The id card is given back upon returning the audio guide) The audio guide was good in terms of content and narration albeit a bit too limited considering the huge number of exhibits. (There are tens of thousands for sure) I often missed the numbers that marked the available guide narrations and could only listen to less than 20 in all. This could also be because we were not moving in any specific order. Also some portion of the museum was closed for maintenance (in Oct 2023). One thing I noticed was that there is no restriction on photography which is cool. Talking about the museum itself, it offered a lot of variety – all neatly classified into the different halls. There were historic exhibits, paintings, fabric art, animal life, recreations of old and new settings etc. The domes are majestic, washrooms are neat, souvenirs are good (though slightly more expensive than what you might find right outside) and it is overall well managed and well maintained. You wouldn’t realize the time you spend there. I read that this building is listed as a Grade I Heritage Building and has received the award of excellence by UNESCO in 2022. It is also an UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the many Victorian heritage buildings in Mumbai.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya in Mumbai is a captivating journey through India's history, offering a seamless blend of architecture, education, and artifacts. Open from 10:15 am to 6 pm every day, except on 26 January, 1 May, 15 August, and 2 October, the museum ensures accessibility for all. The exhibition of mummies adds a mysterious allure, unveiling ancient burial practices and the stories of civilizations long past. The meticulous preservation of these relics speaks to the museum's dedication to showcasing history authentically. Equally compelling is the display of ancient coins, providing insights into the economic and cultural exchanges shaping India over centuries. The museum's architecture, a fusion of Indo-Saracenic and Mughal styles, enhances the overall experience. Navigating through well-designed exhibits, visitors encounter a chronological narrative that unfolds seamlessly. The staff's knowledge and courtesy contribute to a conducive learning environment, ideal for solo explorations or family outings. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya stands as a testament to India's rich heritage, making it a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts. The captivating exhibits, especially the mummies and ancient coins, promise a brief yet profound journey through time, leaving an indelible impression.

Decent museum but perhaps currently focusing on less serious things and more gimmicks. Not many out of the world mind-blowing kind of exhibits and many are actually copies of the original. Some of the good exhibits are just left outside, like the rock inscriptions, and people touch them and rub them, so they won't really last that long. The building itself (built by the Brits) is perhaps the best thing about the museum. Not really worth the 150 rs. but yeah you can visit if you like history. The problem is that the things are not even arranged properly mostly just randomly placed stuff. Mobile photography is allowed but you have to pay extra for a standalone camera which is frankly a bit stupid.

This place has some... ahem... interesting... exhibits. Not going to post those pictures but have fun exploring the museum haha. Well curated. Great collection of historical artifacts and art. The history and meaning behind the items is well described on plaques and posters. I thought the place was clean. Only a select few of the rooms were air conditioned. The natural history section with India fauna was fascinating. There is so much biodiversity unique to India! Well done.

A must visit for everyone, local and otherwise, to this beautiful gallery containing historical treasures. I have been told that the museum has been renovated recently and is excellently maintained by the staff. The opulence of the place still remains intact and the exhibit is excellent. A lot of information and displays to be seen and learn. The museum can be a terrific expedition for children and adults who enjoy historical scenes.

A nice museum with loads of beautiful pieces of local and national history. Unfortunately, it was very busy and tightly packed. The experience was quite noisy also, which detracted from it. The staff was lovely and keen to share knowledge but overall felt a bit like bumpercars. Reasonably priced tickets and a fun audio tour included.

The building, both outside and inside, is beautifulc in line with the rest of the main colonial buildings in the Fort area. But in my opinion the entry for non indians is way too expensive for what the museum actually offers. I’d have happily just visited the building and its gardens, had I known.

Great Museum, truly a cultural gem! The exhibits and historical artifacts were fascinating and very well maintained. Architecture of the museum itself is stunning. They even had an exhibit of a mummy! Sadly the fish and reptile exhibit was closed at the time of visit.

History! The moment you step in, you will be surrounded by the artefacts, sculptures, paintings, coins, stuffed animals, mummy (yes, mummy), jewellery, historical documents etc. If you love exploring the history then you will love spending 6-8 hours here. The collection is huge and they are upgrading and adding a few more buildings to the current museum.

A century old museum, a grade 1 heritage site. thousands of artefacts to visit and learn the history. There’s a ticket for entry as well as for camera equipments(we paid 150 for adult with mobile camera). It takes ample 2/3+ hours to visit the whole thing properly. So plan accordingly.
