I've been in the hobby my entire life(kept fish since 1971). I've kept saltwater, and freshwater species. I've bred many freshwater species(including Discus). I continually seek out local fish stores and breeders to find the best specimen and value (often the cheapest price is not the best value). Chicago Discus has the best specimen and selection in Discus I've ever seen. All their fish look outstanding with many show quality specimen. Their facility (the basement of their home) and tanks are very well kept. The owners(Josie & Miranda) are very friendly and professional. If you're in the Chicago Land area you really need to take a visit to Chicago Discus, and see first hand how beautiful these fish could be when they're well cared for. I have purchased 6 Discus in the past 3 months from Chicago Discus and they have all been very healthy, vibrant colored, excellent body shape, and health eaters the first day I put them into my tank! I am lucky that I live in Chicago and visit their hatchery in person and it is very clean and well kept. They have an excellent selection of Discus and are very knowledgeable and an excellent resource for me as I learn all about this beautiful fish. I admired the selection from afar for a year before I made my first purchase. My only regret was waiting so long. I dealt with Miranda exclusively during my purchase. I found communication extremely efficient, and Miranda answered all of my questions promptly and thoroughly. Descriptions of the fish were highly accurate. Packaging was impeccable and sizing of the fish was actually underestimated, which was a pleasant surprise. As far as fish quality is concerned, I found the three fish that I purchased to be second to none in my experience.

Going through their basement was the equivalent of going to Disney Land for a Discus keeper. Not from Chi, was in town…took the opportunity to drop by (by appointment only). They have some of the cleanest, vibrant Discus I have seen about. Extremely well cared for and the water is CLEAR. What an experience!!! Highly recommended. Oh did I mention, outside of all the superb Discus spicemens. They have a full grown Mbu Puffer. :) Fair pricing…given the quality! Great advice! Awesome visit

Purchased 12 red checkerboard pigeons and 12 spotted leopards. They were sold as 3 1/2 - 4 inch fish, which is exactly how they measured out. They are all perfectly shaped. The quality of these discus is amazing. And the price........what a bargin! Miranda made me wait an extra week, a good thing, while she made sure they had been properly quarantined. Her advise was very much appreciated. Just a very positive buying experience.

Selling infected fish by discus plague( black disease). I moved to Louisville, created new tropical fish farm and had stupid thing to get fish from this seller. Just one strain bought. Got the fish from this seller and all my discus were infected by her fish. destroyed all the fish and started again. Watch out and think about if you have point to buy dis us from this seller

Miranda and Josie are awesome! They undoubtedly have the best discus fish in the country. But beyond that, they are responsive, dedicated, and caring people who absolutely treat their customers the right way. I have been buying fish from them for many years and would not get discus anywhere else.

Insane to go anywhere else. Cannot beat the quality, selection, price, service and support. Don't buy discus from anywhere else until first visiting Chicago Discus. I live in the burbs and it was an hour drive. That said, if it was 3hrs, it would still be worth it!

I have been a discus hobbyist for over 10 years and I have purchased many discus from local fish shops and none have come close to what Miranda has. These discus are healthy and great size. Just beautiful. Only regret I have, not finding Chicago Discus sooner.
