I keep telling myself I need to leave a review for this place. So, after 3 years (maybe more?) here it is. First of all, this is a take-out sushi place. It has a clean and simple interior decorated with quality service. Kevin, the head chef, is the face you want to see when you're hungry. He hits you with a happy hello before your foot finishes crossing the threshold and no time is wasted. You will get your food within 5-10 minutes. There is always one other person waiting for their food with you. This place gets steady business and this is why: 1. Fresh ingredients: The fish is plump. The avocado is never brown. The cucumbers crunch and the rice is sticky. Every order is made with care and seasoned to never leave you dissatisfied. This is not the best sushi I've ever had (I eat a lot of sushi) but I always go back. It consistently hits the spot and it's GOOD. 2. Service: When this place first opened, I gave it a chance. The teal paint and big windows invited me in. I ordered off the blown-up menu on the wall and was handed a neatly tied bag with "an extra hand roll for you". That, I thought was clever (and nice). What better way to bring in business than free food. And It was the first time I ever got a free food that wasn't an apologetic back pedal. I at smiled the man with the smile and went back to my office. I ate and knew I would be going back. Since then, every time I've visited Choi's I've always felt like comfortable? Is that the right word? It just feels good to wait there. You hear the soft chatter of the kitchen as the news plays silently on the screen before you. The stools are high and there is a fridge of different drinks for you to look through. Then, your food is ready. It's been three years and today was just a visit to the city and guess what? "Extra roll for you". 3. Price: It's cheaper. Where a red dragon roll usually costs $13-14, its $10.90 here (called the orange dragon, their red dragon is with tuna). My spicy scallops roll was $4.90.Their small maki boat is $24 and perfect for sharing. And it doesn't compromise in quality. In sum, go to Choi's if you want to eat sushi at home or feel like some fish on your lunch break. It's fast and it's good and Kevin is the nicest. Support local business. Eat sushi.

We just had a super delicious meal, courtesy of Choi's Roll and I had to write a review! We are vegan, and we got a platter and a half of vegan rolls with various tasty combos, including a shiitake roll, pickled radish, and a veggie deluxe roll - yam, avocado, tempura, sweet tofu, cucumber. The customer service was exceptional. From placing the order on the phone, to picking it up, we experienced the most friendly and welcoming service. They helped me strategize what to get and was really accommodating and helpful in picking menu items. (For instance, they flagged that the miso soup isn't vegan, which was much appreciated). In any case, it's our first time but DEFINITELY not the last, and very much worth the 30 minute drive into town for pickup. The food was truly fresh tasting, which was nice, as not every sushi place tastes 100% fresh. We also noticed that they'd included a few extra rolls, and the rolls themselves were packed full of fillings, with big chunks of buttery avocado (sometimes the avocado at other locations can be a bit lacking). Oh, and their website was awesome and the menu clearly marked the vegan options. Big thumbs up :)

Hours are inconsistent. Often they will be closed on days that Google and Facebook list them as being open or they’ll close early randomly. Sushi is hit or miss, a step or so above grocery store quality, but customer service is downright bad. Contacted Chois in multiple ways to let them know they completely skimped on a roll — the veggie roll is $10 and supposed to have tofu, avocado, sweet potato and cucumber and I received only cucumber and sweet potato in the roll, which was not tasty in any manner. No response despite the business having read the message. Prices have gone up recently making eating at Chois less worth it. In addition, I edited my older review to remove a typo and was finally responded to by Chois Roll after a whole year of having the review ignored. Silly that they can finally take time to do that but never wanted to respond about the terrible order I received — maybe a year ago trying to rectify the order would have mattered. Haven’t been back since this review, probably still won’t be back.

I'm afraid I just don't see the appeal — mediocre fish, and inexpensive prices for correspondingly small portions. Firstly, staff were friendly. Prices seem pretty low...but the portions are small— accordingly, I ordered a small roll and a dragon roll, and by that time I think you are getting far better value elsewhere for about the same amount of food and money. I guess the difference is that here you can order two small rolls and get a bit more variety..? But the biggest issues were that the fish was rather flavourless, and the rolls weren't assembled very well— they tended to fall apart (rice not made quite right). I certainly can't fathom how this place merits 4.8 stars (at the time of this writing) making it the second best sushi in Kingston. It is a far, far cry from that.

  • Desiree Smith

I order dinner here about 3 times a week since I moved back to Kingston, food's delicious and the service is very fast aswell. Ordered through skip once and the delivery guy mixed up the orders. Went to the restaurant and they gave me my correct order and extra sashimi to makeup for the mixup. Very nice owner. Great location in downtown to have fresh on-the-go rolls. Choi's rolls is not a sit-down meal restaurant, but does have some seating for those waiting for their order. Wait times are not long. Sushi/sashimi is prepared quickly and made very deliciously. Location is clean and made for easy take-out orders.

  • Thomas Curts

It's ok. If you like cucumber, then that's what you'll get a lot of. The staff is nice, so I gave them a second chance. Unfortunately, the quality has been consistently mediocre. Couldn't taste the fish because it all got masked by fillers. In the dragon roll, had 1/3 of a imitated crab stick, what I think may have been the smallest deep fried shrimp, and 3/4 of the entire roll was probably cucumber. Save yourself the markup and just go to the grocery store up the street. I can't fathom why this place has such a high rating.

Spent $40+ and all I got was basically rice and cucumber. Where is the fish? The fish is cut so thin and small compare to the roll. I overheard one of the workers say that there wasn't enough and I came forward and said I could change my order but the other guy was like we are good. After reading past reviews it seems like I am not the only one. They responded reviewers they would improve 3 weeks ago; well it has clearly not changed. Ugh stay away!

I had lunch at Choi's Roll in Kingston. (326 Princess St). Upon my arrival I was greeted with a warm welcome from the staff. Their menu is straight forward and easy to read. I decided to try the 6pcs California Roll. It was a cold rainy day, and their miso soup really helped to ease my chills. The kitchen is open to the front so you can watch your roll being prepared. I decided to eat in, however they are definitely geared towards take out. There are very limited seats (4-5). I cannot wait to go back again very soon to try some more of Choi's Rolls.

  • Graeme Kalijundic

I love sushi! Wherever I'm stationed or working currently. I always try and order sushi/sashimi every Saturday to treat myself. Since living in kingston for 9 months, I've tried every sushi restaurant now..I can confidently say. The best/fresh tasting so far in my opinion is Choi's roll. Not only did they customize my order but the quality of the miso soup for me separates all sushi joints.its the best hands down, it was remarkable. I will now be only ordering from this place. Great job choir's roll!

This sushi master take out spot is world class. The rice is amazing. The spicy sushi mix is so good, it defines the genre. You’ll find yourself wondering how you can’t seem to find better sushi at home. 3 weeks ago I got back from Japan where I tried Michelin star restaurants, I ate fresh fish in Nigiki market, I tried to find the best of every sushi spot in Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Tokyo. Despite all those experiences, Choi’s Roll is still my favourite. 5 stars.

  • Anthony D

I'm sorry but this is probably the worst sushi I've ever had in my life! The sushi was flavorless and too oily and no where near worth the price. The staff were nice but that doesn't change the fact this is incredibly overpriced terrible sushi. Don't waste your money and go somewhere else! If you like this sushi you've probably never had decent sushi in your life lol, even grocery store sushi is better than this

Choi's is a great little take out sushi place in downtown Kingston. Staff are friendly and service is quick. Sushi is excellent and fair priced. Great little sushi take away and delivery place!!! Fresh and delicious, plus the prices are awesome! Also everyone was incredibly friendly and it was super speedy. Most importantly though, this sushi was really really tasty! Will be back for sure, thanks for the dragon roll and tuna sashimi, highlight of my day for sure.

  • Mary-Beth McGinn

Outstanding. Currently the best sushi in Kingston. I recommend the spicy salmon or spicy tuna. Simple, affordable, flavourful. Limited seating (a few stools), best for takeout. The staff are really friendly. They stayed open during the COVID-19 pandemic and appear to have taken many precautions (plexiglass, masks, limiting the amount of people in the reception area, very clean). 5 Stars for food, 5 Stars for Cleanliness, 5 Stars for service.

  • Dakota Wolf

Honestly I was going to leave a bad review after picking up my order it was very small for the $60 price tag. First off the hand rolls are disappointingly small and definitely not worth the money. But upon trying the other parts I ordered it wasn’t too bad. The food quality was okay but the preparation was mediocre at best. TLDR: Don’t get the hand rolls, pricey, good ingredient quality but not so good presentation and preparation.

Choi's Roll is a fantastic location! In the heart of Kingston on Princess St. Not only convenient, they have a lot of great tasting choi-ces (pun not intended). It's my go to for take-out Sushi. I recommend it to evey sushi lover I know in the area! A generous amount for great prices! I've heard of a lot of establishments closing due to covid, and I would be devastated if Choi's becomes affected. Stay healthy, and keep on rollin'!

Some of the Best sushi and service in town. Fresh and fast service. Rolls are a good size and well done. Have tried other places and this place has taken top 3! I would recommend Chois Roll to anyone. You will not be disappointed! Have tried almost all items on the menu and have not once had a complaint. Very comfortable and wonderful sushi experince in YGK! *picture is filtered not colours of actual food itself*

Absolutely recommend this place. Wonderful Sushi chefs with big smiles and great skills. The Sashimi was delicious and our rolls were perfect. Great prices and generous portions. The wasabi was fresh and ginger was high quality.

I highly recommend this place for a quick bite and amazing takeout!!! (No seating except for a little bar top) The owner and staff are so friendly and the sushi is extremely fresh and tasty. Being from the west coast and having a sushi restaurant on every corner, we have become very picky. I have to tell you, this is some of the best sushi we’ve had regardless of coast. Highly recommend.

  • Decca Durocher

I say waiting in brackets because I was early and they were actually really fast. The customer service was great. Sometimes when I get takeout from other places I feel like a bit of an inconvenience but here that is the expectation and they are very welcoming. I overall really enjoyed everything. The only thing I would mention is that the yam didn't seem to be tempura more just cooked.

  • Ann mary KJ

Great experience and highly recommended. Awesome customer service and excellent food. I tried the dynamite roll and it was delightful. The chef’s had a great smile on their faces and was so polite with us.

When they made my sushi, I saw this. The chief touched and watched his phone with gloves on several times. Then he touched the ingredients and set up my sushi without changing the gloves. Won’t order again from here because that is not acceptable to me.

Best Sushi in town. Not to mention, they usually throw in something interesting/ extra. I ordered alot Salmon related rolls. I received what I ordered, and then some random Salmon belly. Yum! However, could work on the Veggie rolls and having them in stock. But I don't eat veggie rolls so, a 5 star rating it is! Keep it up guys!

  • Amanda Pieroni

The place was too warm to handle and prepare sushi. There were two people behind the counter, the one which I assume was the owner stayed on his cellphone and didn't look once to his customers, and the other was friendly but didn't seem to know very much about sushi. The sushi was not tasteful, it wasn't bad tho.

  • Nathan Zhou

Sushi isn't all about how expensive the material you use, it is the experience you put all together with the fish and rice. It's a balance of feeling. Choi’s role makes it all perfect. Every bite is a surprise. They offer free delivery when order certen amount. But if delivery got delayed, quality will degrade.

  • Jessica Therrien

Have not been able to visit in person due to covid but we have ordered a several times through Uber eats and the food is delicious! Food is well made and tastes excellent. My boyfriend loves the dragon rolls and I love the 6 piece salmon and cucumber and salmon and avocado. Definitely give them a try!

  • Omneya Asfoor

The least quality sushi I have tried in Kingston along with agi sai. Small, flavorless and not much of variety. Their only advantage was the fresh ingredients they use and that they delivered. Won't order from there again. If you are craving good sushi then definitely this is not your place.

  • Chloe

Best sushi in Kingston and super friendly staff :) They called to confirm that I wanted the hand rolls (I think a lot of people mix this up with the normal 6 pieces) and they even threw in a couple extra hand rolls which was super nice of them! Will definitely be coming back!

  • Nicky

Have had some good food there, but in my recent orders, my spicy salmon has been more filler than salmon and incredibly oily to the point of it being inedible. Since my third order in a row being this way, I’ve avoided it unfortunately. :(

Staff were friendly, though the rolls were average at best. While visiting Kingston this weekend we decided give this place a try. Compared to what I am used to in Toronto, the rolls are definitely lacking. Barely any eel on the roll and shrimp tempura was stale.

  • Laurianne Baril

Not worth it at all, rolls are very small and tasteless. Very expensive for what you get, spicy salmon is basicly just tempura bits. Worst sushi i hate in Kingston can't believe they're still open when there's so many extremely better sushi place downtown.

  • Nikki D

I make it a point to stop in at chois every time I am visiting Kingston. The service is amazing, the owner is very polite, friendly and engaging every time I am there. The food is very fresh with nice sized portions. The hand rolls are so delicious!

Wife and I just finishing eating the better part of a 52 piece combo, inari, and salmon sashimi. Very well portioned rolls, large beautiful pieces of sashimi, and fabulous inari. Quick service and no waiting to pick up my order. I would recommend.

Great service, incredible always fresh sushi and excellent price / quality. The sweet spot! Only reason it's not a 5 is because on large orders sometimes they get mixed up on which order goes where and we have to figure it out after the fact.

Really disappointed with the taste. Sushi in any sushi restaurant in Kingston is better than here, even the sushi in Metro and Loblaws, and the price is almost the same. The sashimi is okay. But overall not worth the price.

  • Yulia Kovaleva

Awesome sushi! Since it's a family run place, they will also put a little something extra in your order with no charge - so nice! The rice is not a super thick layer and everything is super fresh - can't wait to go back!

  • Joshua Curtis

Incredible sushi and sashimi, goes down VERY nicely! Can not recommend enough. You can walk in and wait for sushi, or you can go to Choi's site and preorder sushi for a certain pick up time. Please support the business!

This place is my staple sushi spot when I come to Kingston for work. I'm from Toronto and this place is on par with many of the sushi spots in Toronto. Very unexpected. Good for a spot of inexpensive, quick sushi.

  • Byron Mitchell

They absolutely nail what they do which is fast, fresh, affordable and friendly takeout. I always get the pickled radish and tuna green onion rolls. Plus they are my delivery client and my drivers just love Kevin!
