The new gaming space is fantastic and feels very purpose built, fresh and comfortable. I am impressed. It's been many years since last I went to the Annerley store (Now it is called Comics Plus, but it's the same place I always enjoyed to shop at.) Stopped in for MTG cards today as I'd passed through the arcade from the carpark out back to get to work a few weeks ago and noticed a lot of renovations going on and that vibe of collecting and playing Magic The Gathering games here from years ago game back with great memories that make me want to start playing again. The staff are very knowledgeable and dedicated to the world of comics and strategy card and RPG games and love to help you find what you are looking for. I'd recommend a visit here and to shop here for anyone looking for a good quality and original Brisbane comic and gaming shop experience.

I used to be a regular, but boy do I feel this store has slowly degraded in quality. Their range is can be inconsistent. Their prices vary from; ‘on par with other brick’n’motar stores’ to ‘out landishly expensive in comparison’. Furthermore, I cannot remember the last time I’ve ever felt welcomed or helped as a customer. It brings a very weird energy. It feels dark, and dreary, and unreasonably hostile to be in there. I can’t quite put my finger on what precisely triggers the feeling exactly, but I generally feel like I’m either inconveniencing the staff by walking through the door, or im perceived as nothing more than a walking wallet that they can’t wait to manhandle money from. There are far better games stores in Brisbane imo.

First time checking out this store, friends invited me to play Magic there. Not worth the drive from Ipswich. I got a drink and the guy said it was $5 for card I was going to buy something else as I understand there was a limit on card but then the guy said it’s $2 to play, I wasn’t aware of this but agreed to it. I asked my friend about it but he said that’s odd he’s never had to pay. Not once did he come over and ask anyone else to pay. Was he just taking advantage as I am a female? He had been rude to my friend on a previous visit as well and made fun of him. The whole vibe was off putting whilst playing, doesn’t help it’s under ground either. Not a lot of stock and just not a welcoming and friendly place to be.

Generally I really look forward into walking into Ace Comics. They have a great range of products and they are often quite fairly priced when compared to the orginal retailer. But this time it was not so great. They lied to me and my friend about pricing telling us how all of their Games Workshop items are 10% less than the RRP. But when checked it was shown that some items are even more expensive, and they did NOT go out of their way to correct this after telling us that their prices are cheaper, even when shown that the original RRP of the product was less they still did no lift a finger. Sometimes it is better just to stick to Games Workshop themselves..

Came in Friday night 5/5, first time playing here. We misunderstood the $2 table fee, the worker came in and rudely interrupted to tell us both players had to pay the fee when we thought it was pay per table. We don't mind paying it since it was a simple misunderstanding but his attitude towards it was extremely rude and we don't see ourselves coming back after it. The way he conducts himself while he scowls around the tables makes you feel uneasy when you're just there to enjoy some tabletop gaming. Would not recommend coming here if you intend to enjoy your gaming experience.

Although it has been many years since venturing down into the shop (perfect spot for an old Brisbane icon - a record shop would be the only other shop that would suit a cool spot like that. The owner is well versed in everything related to comics, gaming, etc, and has been a local entity for decades, kudos for all he's done too to help provide spaces for regular gaming sessions of many flavours. A must see, there's such a wide range of awesome items, it would be difficult to walk out without purchasing at least one of the many treasures tucked away in the arcade on Ipswich Rd.

Dank and dirty place that has slowly atrophied over the last 10 years of venturing in it. Could do better if they put a lot more effort into appearence, hygiene, layout, organisations, smell, stock, attitude, marketing, customer engagement, cleanliness...etc. Has heaps of potential but evidently no drive or passion to make the much needed improvements. Nice community of fringe customers, though some can often reflect the stores character a bit too much. The smaller games/hobby shops opening up around the area will likely out pace and manoeuvre given time. Good luck.

Edit: I have decided to change my review after the owner of the shop insulted one of my friends as he was leaving after making a purchase. I don't think I will be making any further purchases from this store sadly enough. My old review is below still. As a gaming store goes this one isn't to bad. Although I'm never sure when they are exactly open, as they are normally open longer then what the times are listed. However, if you are looking for something specific they can usually help with it. They have a nice large range from comics, boardgames and miniatures.

I doubt I will return there after the reception I received there last. There is no need to be grumpy at potential customer's, and make them feel like they are interfering in your day. You should hire somebody who is happy to be there. Not have someone who appears to have been there too long and over it. I haven't found a comic shop yet who has any quality of service. This place really does have it's own Gordon Ramsey. Maybe it might be a common trait, among comic, and board game manager's, I don't know, but I'm buying online from now on!

Not a great online shopping experience. I ordered a bunch of issues ahead of time and many that should have been in stock. They took the order and money immediately. It Then took 2-3 months for a real update on the order only after I personally found out some of the comics were cancelled or delayed. After I notified they of these facts they told be 2 of the comics I ordered that were not cancelled were not available. Yes I got the refund however their follow through was quite terrible.

Advertised an item on their website as "in stock" and was able to "add to cart", they took payment and sent me an invoice only to tell me that that item was unavailable and they were going to refund me. It's been 7 days and the refund still hasn't come through and my bank has seen the money go out but not come back in and on top of that they are still advertising the same item as "in stock" and not on "back order" or not available as other items are on the website.

I wouldn't recommend shopping here except that it is the only Games store with an up-to-date supply of RPG material. The staff are rude and unhelpful, the store is small and cluttered and any available spaces are often booked out or bumped in favour of friends of the staff. If there was anywhere with better stock in Brisbane I'd shop there. I suspect this lack of competition is one of the reasons for the rudeness and laziness of the staff.

Been a long time customer just had the bloke working there today close the door in my face. “Closed Mate’! No explanation, no I’ll just be 10 minutes. Completely unacceptable customer interaction. He’d just walked in, sign is out, your times online say open from 9. Anyway, I’ll go and spend the money I was coming in to spend elsewhere. You might want to remind that clown customers are how he gets paid. Won’t be back.

Comics Plus is an amazing place with amazing staff. The staff are extremly friendly and knowledgeable and are great to talk with. The store sells comics and various tabletop games Inc D&D, Warhammer 40k & AoS, magic the gathering and lots of other board games and accessories. They have a large gaming area and run frequent events and tournaments. Definitely worth a visit.

  • David G

The store is hidden away but has a good selection of comics, manga, graphics novels, board games and card games. They even have a decent selection of anime, t-shirts, paint-able game pieces and model paint. The staff seem keen to go out of their way to help customers. Regular game meets at the back of the store seems pretty cool and gives the store a friendlier feel.

Seriously who keeps giving the old guy from Ace Comics a job, we get ignored and then it was like a chore that he had to get off the phone so we could buy stuff… came prepared to buy more and was sorely disappointed. I’ll go up the road to Warhammer Mount Gravatt and pay more but at least they are semi interested in customer service

I’ve been searching for comics across every state trying to complete a private collection. I spoke with Glenn from this business and he was hands down the MOST helpful and kind person I have dealt with. Went out of his way to offer advice and service just to help me achieve my goal. Truly a wonderful experience!! 10/5 stars!!!

  • Cal Chan

Uhh I went to a few today so unsure which one this was. But if I'm right, There was a lovely mature lady working there at the time, very approachable and a nice change. Usually I don't feel welcomed at stores like this and whoever is there is like a sad gatekeeping fedora. Anyway. Great shop!!!

  • Lee Weaver

Has recently moved to a shop on the other side of the arcade and rebranded itself as 'comics plus'. Games are a little expensive (probably about 30% cheaper if you bought them off the internet) but if you want to grab small items like hobby paints and brushes, it's worth popping into

  • Zachary Daw

The staff here are very knowledgeable and helpful within their areas of expertise. Their recommendations have been consistently good to me. It will help you if you can provide them with a starting reference point so they recommend things to suit your individual taste.

  • Nicholas Franklin

This is actually now a new business under new management with changed operating hours not currently listed on Google. Call ahead to avoid disappointment. Gaming rooms are a little old, dingy and smelly. Could use some investment and a good refurb. Staff are friendly.

  • Phillip Gorell

Great gaming shop, they have tables out the back to play any game you and your mates wish to play. There is lots of terrain, and even a couple of table all set up, if available. I have being coming to ace now of over 6 years, maybe I will see you there some time!

  • A.M.C.A

The unhealthy looking guy working there asked for my medical details. The irony is delicious and he ate all of it. I will never return and neither will anyone I know. Good luck with your business model and I hope you find some vegetables in the near future.

  • dragontruth

When something went wrong, it was never their fault. By "wrong" I mean stuff not coming on on time for them, which is more stressful for the seller than the customer. Very friendly and helpful, not gate keepers or elitists. Wide variety of stuff, too.

  • Dimity Uniacke

Best in Brisbane- if they don't have it they'll order it in for you, no fuss. We still travel over from the North side to visit. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and they keep up a constant stream of game nights and event weekends.

  • Marc Busoli

The shop is a good place to discover comics and collectibles and t shirts. Staff aren’t overly friendly and don’t generally acknowledge you if they’re busy talking but they are very helpful once approached. Got some cool stuff.

  • Alex G

First time visiting, great experience! All the popular editions plus some cool eclectic stuff. Great bundle deals. Thoughtfully curated collection. Owner was awesome, friendly and genuinely helpful. Will definitely be back.

  • RileyJay Hicks

The community is on point for Magic the Gathering. The Friday night magic is superb. Saturday morning standard showdown is the bomb. Friendly staff, Hayden is a legend, so it's glenjamine!! Such a good community

  • Joshua Owen

Great store. Knowlegable staff who are encouraging about getting you involved with events or order items in specially. Great range. Can't believe the Brisbane store is part of the same chain.

  • Abigail Strixa

Pretty friendly place, has a decent assortment of games, miniatures and comics. Generally my preferred port of call when I'm looking for something fun. It's a shame the CBD location closed.

  • Rick Milne

Great shop. Been coming here for years. Glen good guy, and he!s perfectly within his rights to ask for your vax history. Ignore previous snippy right whinger….he sure doesn’t speak for me

  • Tu P

Chuck, Glen and Ash the team there are always friendly and helpful when you need advice. It has been there for a long time, part of the annerley feel. I am a regular visitor

  • Jamezdroid (Jamezdroid)

Friendly staff, expansive floor area for gaming, and all the other stuff you would expect from a good gaming store. Comics Plus has competitive pricing as well. Recommended.

  • Joseph Hemmings

We had such an awesome time running Blood on the Clocktower here! Glen was a very sweet and awesome host! Both myself and my players really appreciated the service!

  • Gabby Marcelline

Recieved a lot of help on finding a board game for a gift. The staff member was helpful and knowledgeable, made the expeirence easy and fun. Will come back again.

  • Cassidy Kestrel

The name says comics, but the real draw of the store is all of their boardgaming and tabletop supplies. Also good stock of miniature painting gear.

  • Aurora Hill

Nice, spacious store. Heaps of stock. Helpful humans, and loads of supplies for table top. Great range of paints. …

  • Logan Melville

Absolute gem of a store with plenty of tables and heaps of character.

  • Andrew Ainsworth
