In March I asked about getting my son a Greek passport. I started dealing with Maria Spyropoulou. She asked me to send her various documents, which I did the same day. A few weeks passed and I did not hear back from her. 8 voice mail messages and 4 weeks later, Ms. Spyropoulou returned my call. She claimed she did not receive my messages. She set up an appointment with me for early July. One week prior to this appointment she called me to reschedule as she was informed that she would be going on holidays. Rescheduled appointment for early Sept. At this appointment she told me there was a discrepancy with how my last name appeared on the documents and that I had to provide additional documents. I was not pleased that she did not pick up on this discrepancy prior to my meeting with her so I could bring the additional documents. Ms. Spyropoulou told me she couldn’t help me until I provided these docs. I told her I would send them that night, which I did, and she said she would call me the next day to proceed. Did not receive a phone call. I followed up with her by leaving 2 messages. I just received an email from Ms. Spyropoulou informing me that a co-worker will be assisting me and if I could send all the documents, (that I sent her), to her co-worker. I told her since she has everything that she requested from me if she can pass them on to her co-worker. In dealing with Ms. Spyropoulou she has mentioned, more than once that she doesn’t have time to find my emails (with the scanned docs) and if I could resend them. Bottom line is...it’s 6 months later and I’m no further than where I was in March. I’d like to say this is ‘the worst service’, but as of today there has been absolutely NO service. Sadly, An embarrassed Greek girl

Worst experience of my life. I have been waiting for 5 years to get my citizenship and despite being given an appointment multiple times it was cancelled or not honoured. Also, the information that I was told I needed to bring in was inaccurate. After arriving at our appointment earlier today, we were immediately greeted with hostility about why we were there. When the staff member (an older man in a green shirt with glasses) finally saw us, it was one of the rudest interactions I have ever had. He was the most unhelpful, misogynistic and condescending person I've ever dealt with and after waiting 5 years for my appointment, I'm super disappointed. He came into the waiting room and immediately told to "stop speaking or you'll be removed". Every time I tried to explain why we were there and what the purpose of the appointment was he shushed me and wouldn't let me get a word in or he'd call security. My dad was trying to communicate with him but was repeatedly interrupted. He eventually told us we'd have to go to the Greek court and file for my parents marriage and divorce, and then maybe we could make another appointment. This is totally random as each time we go to the embassy we deal with someone telling us a new process for citizenship. I've now totally given up on Greece as a whole. This experience really showcased the terrible bureaucracy present there and now it seems that although I have all of the correct paperwork, they will never actually help me in this process. What a waste of time. Shame on you.

My call to the Greek consulate today was surprisingly disappointing. During COVID, I was received by a bilingual agent who provided me with detailed information and care to fulfill my Dad’s requirements. Today, after spending a lengthy time on line, namely trying to book an in person appointment, I made a call in the hopes that I’d receive some care and assistance. I received neither. I felt like I was in Greece where good customer service hardly exists or comes at a premium. The agent told me that I had to figure out how to book online as there were no other options. When I asked how my parents who are almost illiterate, not tech savvy and have neither internet or a computer, would navigate this system if they could not count on me. She replied that they’d have to get help from a friend. Really?!?! Sorry if I expect much better customer service than that. Are we really that unawares of our aging population, many of whom do not engage with technology. I was devastated with her response. I asked if she could perhaps work through a computer screen to make the appointment for me as my computer was glitching. Again her answer was no, she informed me that sometimes we just have to follow the rules, which I might add, are newly instated (one year old) booking rules.

The service at the Greek Consulate in Toronto is top notch, extremely organized and highly efficient and professional. I was very impressed with the confirmation of the appointment via email (ensuring no misunderstanding) and also the reminder of what documents and fees to bring. The 2 people (T. Patrinos and D. Kagioulis) that handled our cases were exemplary in their service. They were efficient and professional and very knowledgeable. Flora was also expedient and professional. And the ladies in the front , Natalia and the other girl also were professional and friendly. Also, prior to the visit at the Consulate every telephone interaction and conversation was very informative, professional and friendly. My whole family was very impressed with the service. Thank you to all of you in the Consulate for your hard work and for representing your country in such positive and professional way. Greece is lucky to have you guys !! Chrys Kostopoulos

My experiences in dealing with the Greek Consulate in Toronto have been positive, especially since I have had the privilege of working with Ms. Maria Spyropoulou. I have been in the process of finalizing my mother's estate regarding her property in Greece. Navigating the many twists and turns connected to finding original documentation connected to birth certificates, marriage certificates, and sorting through the different spellings of both first and last names has been a long process (mostly due to the fact electronic copies of birth/marriage certificates did not exist in the 1950s!). Ms. Spyropoulou, at the Greek Consulate in Toronto, has been kind, patient, and extremely helpful in providing assistance, support, and guidance in obtaining the documentation needed by the Greek government. She took the time to explain what was needed in great detail and the reasons why. Thank you Ms. Spyropoulou!

Nothing but the greatest words for MARIA SPYROPOULOU.. She is an asset to the Greek population of Toronto to help all Greek and Canadians alike to assist them in anyway possible to complete their requests whether it be in death certificates citizenship or passport acquisition. My experience with Ms. Spyropoulou was nothing short of excellence.. she worked endlessly and long hours to help me. 7 years ago I filed for citizenship and it was never completed... no one called me to say the work was done.. one trip to Greece sparked my memory and off I went to follow up, thus my meeting this angel who completed everything death certificates of my mom citizenship everything!! She apologized profusely that it wasn’t done when I first applied. If you need it done go see her.. my experience was pleasant comfortable and she is one of the most compassionate people I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

Our experience with the Greek Consulate in Toronto was by far the best we had in any consulate / embassy. Even before visiting, they were incredibly helpful and fast when answering to our questions over email. Thanks to that it was very easy to figure out how exactly we needed to put the application package together. Booking the appointment online was also very easy and seamless. When we finally arrived for our appointment, everything was very well organized and efficient. Flora, the consular officer who helped us with our application was simply amazing. She was kind enough to walk us through the process, and helped us finalize the application. She patiently answered all of our questions, and provided great guidance. The entire time we were there, we were treated like welcome guests, and for that, we cannot thank them enough!

Pretty fast response. Staff is super friendly and parking is in the same building :) You have to apply in person for a Schengen Visa at the Greek Consulate by appointment, if : . your main destination (the Schengen country where you will spend the longest time) is Greece, or . you are spending the same amount of days in several Schengen countries, but Greece is your first port of entry into the Schengen region. . Visa applications can be submitted no more than three (3) months prior to the intended date of visit. . Visa applications can be submitted no less than fifteen (15) days prior to the intended date of visit. Email them and ask for interview. Their response is pretty fast which is within 1-2 days. Got interview within 2 weeks after email appointment. Got my passport with visa stamped on 14th day. Cheers.

  • Wole Fapohunda

Amazing staff especially Natalia, very empathetic, helpful and kind. I contacted them via mail when I was unable to get an appointment online, after explaining the sentimental reason for my trip they got me an appointment. When I went to make the submission, I didn't print a part of my insurance document and Natalia immediately asked me to send the soft copy and she printed it for me. The man that captured my details was also very friendly and nice. The Visa was ready within 2 days. I had to contact them again because my Wife wasn't planned to travel with me but her circumstance changed and she wanted to travel with me for the family event and the embassy came through yet again. In all my travels I haven't encountered consulate staff that are this kind, considerate and helpful.

  • Robert ANAGNOSTOPOULOS

I am a native speaker of Greek and initiated the process to obtain Greek citizenship for my Canadian-born children. Ms. Maria Spiropoulou was our contact. We were given a complete list of documents to bring (photos with specifications, Canadian Passports, Long Form Birth Certificates and Marriage Registrations etc) so that when we arrived at the appointment nothing was missing. Ms. Spiropoulou processed our applications and documents non-stop from 10am until after 1:30pm, without a break for coffee or lunch. She gave detailed instructions on what I had to do in Greece to expedite the process, with addresses etc so that when I attended to these offices everything was in order and the process was completed without any wrinkles, delay or return visits (a rare occurrence).

What an absolute disgrace!!! I had no choice to leave but to leave 1 star it is actually 0. The staff are rude, when calling in they REFUSE TO ASSIST IN ANY WAY, they claim that they are overwhelmed with work for the last 3 years and have done NOTHING TO INCREASE THIER STAFF TO ASSIST THIER CLIENTS. The services are NOT free and yet they act like they are. I have been waiting over 3 years for appointment to finalize my citizenship, all that is required is for me to go in pay and sign documents...... I hope that someone actually genuinely takes this message seriously as I personally know at least a dozen people with the same predicament. SHAME ON YOU FOR TREATING CLIENTS LIKE THIS!!!!

I don't understand the negative reviews I've just read! We just left the consulate, everyone was polite, pleasant and efficient! I'd called ahead to inquire as to what documents were required. Everything was explained to me in detail by a very polite lady, I was asked to book our appointment on line and that was very easy. We came in a bit earlier, my husband needed to have some papers taken care of and we were done in less than half an hour! All great! Fantastic service! I'm wondering, maybe if we call in with an attitude or are arrogant on the phone, we will be answered the same way?? Kindness and a respectful attitude goes a long way.

My experience of the Toronto Consulate, where I have gone for different services over the years, is that the staff is knowledgeable, professional, and helpful (especially Maria Spyropoulou, the person I dealt with the most). My registration was long and complicated and I would not have completed it without Mrs. Spyropoulou's expertise and encouragement. She was informative, kept me updated, and dealt with all of the roadblocks. She was genuinely happy for me when my registration was finally completed. Thank you, Maria Spyropoulou! I know it was long and difficult, but your warmth and hard work made it a pleasure to deal with you.

  • A B

I am very pleased with Ms. Spyropoulou's customer service and assistance in both Greek and English. She was very thorough in clarifying matters with our Greek citizenship paperwork. She replied to all my emails and queries in a very timely manner. I am grateful to her for explaining in detail to me questions that I had, along with information that I did not understand. She was very efficient and gave me guidance with details as to what needed to be done in Greece with other paperwork. Her overall performance in the role of Consular Services has been exceptional and impressive. Thank you so much for your help, Penelope.

Edited Review: I received a call, got my appointment booked, got my visa…thanks Consulate and special thanks to Natalia!!! thank you for the understanding..appreciated! Previous review: “Requesting the visa consulate to please work on their appointment booking calendar…if people do not show up and not canceling their appointment on time please have something in place so that a person in need can get an appointment if the other person does not show up…same goes to the people please cancel your bookings if your plans have changed so that a person in need is able to get their application processed on time.”

Just wanted to write a review for my fellow Greek Canadians to let them know how easy and efficient it was dealing with the Canadian Greek Embassy of Toronto. A very pleasant and helpful women named Maria helped us apply for my families Greek citizenship. She informed me of what papers I needed and made an appointment with her and it was all done in a very easy and painless manor. From the pleasant receptionist to the very efficient Maria my experience was 5 stars!!! Would highly recommend all fellow Greeks to apply for their Greek Citizenship with the Greek Counsel of Toronto.

I am incredibly grateful for the exceptional support and outstanding service provided by the Consulate General of Greece in Toronto. Their professionalism, efficiency, and unwavering assistance made our visa application process smooth and stress-free. The team's dedication to excellence and their commitment to ensuring a seamless experience truly impressed us. Thanks to their help, we are now eagerly looking forward to exploring the wonders of Greece and creating lifelong memories. A heartfelt thank you to the Consulate General of Greece for making our dream trip possible!

  • Mike Kanarellis

Once again, the Greek consulate has let us down. Greece has opened its borders to Canada, but the consulate is not issuing Visa's in Toronto and Montreal. We have been calling for months, but are told to call back on a date that is perpetually 2 weeks away. This is insane! To make things worse, in speaking to a rep from the BC office, they are stating that they are able to process visa application as of July 1st. Furthermore, the consulate in New York is booking appointments for this purpose as we speak, even though the US is barred from entering.

  • Gi tri

ONLY 24 APPOINTMENTS ARE available offseason, meaning, the consulate only issues a maximum of 24 tourist visas for the entirety of Toronto? Tourism accounts for almost 20% of the Greek GDP, how the F can they issue only 24 appointments per month? That's worse than Bhutan that caps their tourists yearly This is apart from having an unhelpful phone operator. How does this country even operate as a whole? Does Greece even need our money? Think this needs to be removed from the bucket list and into the trash bin.

  • Hel Gro

I would give them 0 stars if I could! They never answer the phone. I live abroad and there's a six-hour time difference - I even stayed up late to try to reach them but it didn't work. I sent them a mail with document scans and specific questions. All I got was a link with a website with general information. Now it turns out that a Greek goverment office needs authorization for my documents from this Consulate but how will I get it if I can't reach them? Terrible, what a bureacratic nightmare!

  • fanny tian

I had an amazing visa experience at Greece Consulate in Toronto this Wednesday. The staff was very welcoming, polite, and helpful. Usually, getting a visa might be stressful. But all welcoming and friendly employees did our process very kindly. Especially Visa interview officer, Mr. D, provided me with a lot of useful information about traveling in Greece. Even before I set out for Greece, I could already feel the enthusiasm and friendliness of the Greek people. Thank you all of you!!! F Tian

I would like to expressly thank Maria Spyropoulou for her compassion and understanding, as well as her knowledge, expertise and professionalism in handling my passport renewal. Ms. Spyropoulou responded to my calls in a timely fashion and worked expeditiously to ensure that my passport renewal would be processed without delay. I truly appreciate Ms. Spyropoulou's warmth, attention to detail, hard work, and commitment to addressing my questions and needs. Thank you, so much, Ms. Spyropoulou!

  • Stephanie Delorme

Good luck getting your passport or citizenship here. I started the process over 2 years ago, and have not gotten a response from anybody in over a year despite sending multiple emails. I have paid them, and they have all the long form documents that I paid for that I was told they needed, but it’s still been over a year since anybody has responded to me (and the last was response was to wait for an appointment to be set up shortly). It would laughable if it wasn’t so frustrating.

  • Patricia Liabotis

Mrs. Maria Spiropoulou was a dream come true. We have been engaged in many back and forth emails and telephone calls. She saw my mother and myself on her off time and was very professional and knew her job. She stayed two hours over and above her appointed time to help us with navigate the Greek government paperwork and helped us with all the steps that were necessary to oblige the Greek government. Kudos to her! Thank you so much for helping us out. She was wonderful!

  • Nadav Katz

I had a very pleasant experience with the Greek Consulate General in Toronto thanks to the help, assistance and commitment of Ms. Maria Spyropoulou. I wish to commend Maria for her prompt and courteous service, professional work and dedication. The service she provided exceeded all expectations. Her calm, patient manner and problem-solving abilities, combined with empathy and broad knowledge, are a big asset and blessing to The Greek Consulate General in Toronto.

  • Kostas Zeibekakis

Εξαιρετική εξυπηρέτηση από την κ. Σπυροπούλου και των κ. Διαμαντάκης. Very helpful with regards to offering information regarding obtaining citizenship and timely with regard to the processing visa documents. *Word of advice for those seeking visa documents (or any for that matter): Give yourselves enough time (minimum 1 month - 2 months) to get all the documents. Once you have everything, processing is very quick.

  • Benjamin Marchand

I have never been spoken to so disrespectfully by someone in an embassy or in any professional capacity. The woman at the embassy front desk today saw fit to cut me off multiple times, speak to me in an aggressive tone, and then ask me sarcastic questions. Not at all impressed with the disrespect displayed by this one woman. Shameful, and it reflects so poorly on the embassy. Frankly its an embarrassment.

  • Sana Sa

I had an awful experience at the Consulate General of Greece today. I had been planning for months to get my visa and take a trip to Greece, but instead I was met with cold, rude behavior and a total lack of respect. I felt incredibly overwhelmed and upset, so much so that I ended up canceling my trip and visa despite all the planning. It is a shame that such an organization could be so unprofessional.

  • Yen

I had an amazing experience, best way to reach them is via email. Everyone is very professional and kind. I was unable to book an appointment for my visa application , so I emailed them for any cancellation, they were able to accommodate me for last minute cancellation and I got my visa. I am so happy that I am able to go on my trip. And yes , email is the best way to communicate with them.

  • Ishani Mitra

Flora was an incredible help to me. I sent an urgent request the week prior for a business trip that was in less than 10 days. Flora met with me exceptionally, ensured I had all the required documents and made my trip possible in less than 2 days. Got to hand it off to her. Everyone else at the Consulate is also very friendly and help - great experience. Hope to visit Greece again soon!

  • katerina ki

I wish I could give 0 stars. Unprofessionalism and bad service. Be prepared to bring your breakfast and lunch here cause they take for ever for cases that they normally need 5 min. The other thing is that they don't pick up calls so you should call every day, leave voice messages and hope that one day they will finally pick up the phone! Mrs Spuropoulou is extremelly rude with attitude.

  • Mashiat Faroza

Thank you Greece Consulate in Toronto for giving our visas on time and handling the process very professionally. We chose Santorini as our honeymoon destination and it was just absolutely breathtaking. We are Bangladeshi passport holders residing and working in Toronto with Canadian PR. Thank you for your great service! 5 stars for your kind behaviour, professionalism and friendliness.

  • Vince S

Does anyone know when these guys decide to open up slots? The rude lady on the phone just says "check in October". If my travel is in October and the slots open in the same month, what happens if I cant get the papers? Seems like it's a lottery to get in this country, wished it had a better system. Seems dysfunctional judging by some of the comments here (also rude replies, just wow!)

  • Kathy M

I would give 0 stars if possible. I have been trying to make an appointment for my dad in the passport department for 3 months now. I look almost everyday. There is never any appointments available month after month. My dad is now considering making an appointment with the Ottawa office so he can renew his passport and visit his family. Shame! Hire some more staff and do your jobs!

  • Shailesh Kumar

Absolutely awesome service and people. I recently applied for my visa to Greece and I messed up my appointment date. Not only was the lady that helped me understanding, she was empathetic and an absolute delight to meet. I wish I asked her name. Overall service was the quickest I have ever seen, anywhere and their promptness to emails is impeccable. Absolutely amazing guys.

  • Kris Vassalos

I’ve typically had many frustrating experiences trying to obtain my citizenship via this consulate, being quickly dismissed because it seemed too ‘above and beyond’.. too complicated. Luckily Kuria Maria Spyropoulou has assisted me by making multiple phone calls for me at 5am to get this process off the ground. Truly grateful for her compassion and hard work.

  • Sweetie Baath

Very kind and gentle staff. Everyone is very polite and has a smile on there face. Even though i got a little late they were very accommodating but I recommend everyone to make it on time as if it gets busy you might be sent back. Luckily at my appointment time it was not that busy as it was early in the morning but by the time I left it got busy.

  • Thomas Zampelis

I had visit the Greek consulate in the past and given it 5 stars I would like to do the same again today everyone is very helpful , professional and kind . But I would like to thank especially Mr Patrino who helped me in detail with my papers and had the patience to deal with my anxiety problem during the procedure. Thank you from my heart

We had the smoothest experience applying and getting our visa, the staff and officials are really helpful, despite having a busy schedule they were able to make time for our appointment and help us along with all the steps. Special thanks to Natalia for being so professional and courteous.

  • katie squires

Disrespectful, unprofessional and just plain rude. It seems that the only people who have positive experiences are Greek? Hmmm, I wonder why. I'm seriously considering lodging a formal complaint after the disrespect I received from one woman from the consulate. An embarrassment to Greece.

  • So Ivy

I was in a bind and it wasn’t easy considering they’re in busy season , they were so helpful in finding a solution for me .I was treated with utmost kindness from everyone I interacted with at the consulate . Best consulate I have been to so far . Makes me even more excited for Greece .

I understand they deal with a lot of people and I'm sure have some unpleasant interactions, but they are so rude, regardless of how nice you are to them. I hate going there because it's the same story every time. They show no empathy.

  • Peter Tertsakian

I had a problem with my email application with them. Somehow it was blocked or disappeared. I had to speak with a case worker about what happen. A vital document was sent to me saying that a email communication was blocked somehow.

Horrendous experience. The treatment of people seeking consular services is horrible. They refused me service just because of not having an appointment. Really if there was a possibility of imputing 0/5 stars I would.
