A small but well displayed and beautiful sculpture garden to stroll through. There is even an authentic Rodin! There are some tables and chairs placed in one spot of the sculpture garden to allow guests a quiet, relaxing space to think, or a spot to enjoy a beverage while viewing the sculpture garden, or to sit and sketch. The newly installed (2018) Anish Kapoor sculpture is a highlight of this attraction and is a fabulous photographic element against the beautiful blue Texas sky. There is no cost to view this garden... It is located on the art studio campus on Montrose across from the MFAH.

The Lillie and Hugh Cullen Sculpture Garden is a free outdoor sculpture garden with beautiful works located at the Museum of Fine Arts. Not especially big, and it won't take you long to view the whole thing, but there are some really nice items. It’s a must see if you are in the Huston area. Designed by artist and landscape architect Isamu Noguchi, the garden consists of 25 works of the MFAH, including sculptures by Henri Matisse, Alexander Calder, David Smith, Frank Stella, and Louise Bourgeois.

A real gem of a place. It's free. It's outdoor (very relevant for COVID times). If you pick the right day, you might visit during good weather. It's delightful on such a day. Works by some of the world's greatest sculptors are displayed here. And because there are few space constraints, there are some gigantic pieces that would be awkward in an indoor space. There is a really nice cafeteria that borders the museum. All that sculpture is going to make you hungry, you know!

Ok. Is it the Sculpture Garden or The Houston Slender Bean? Well doesn't matter because it's a delightful addition to the area and MFAH. The stair climb to the top, don't worry you'll see it, is a must. Beautiful views. It's a fun addition to the area and you get a few extra steps on your device. Thursdays, not only is museum entrance free, the parking was also free in the fancy new garage. Nice way to spend the afternoon. Family and Artsy friendly.

I always enjoy this sculpture garden. The location is ideal. It is located in the center of an art mecca. So many amazing sculptures by amazing artists in the same place. The foliage and trees are so well taken care of. I visited late in the afternoon and the light shining through the trees was perfect. Plenty of natural shade is provided so well. The are a plethora of seating options available. People are always around. It’s such a nice place.

Do yourself a favor and grab a coffee in the morning and take a tranquil stroll through the Cullen sculpture garden. The pieces of artwork are interesting and half the fun is in sharing what it means to you with friends. The “bean” looking piece is different and unique to the one in Chicago and worthy of its own fan fare. That is not to takeaway from the other massive and intricate artwork that dots the immediate area.

It's a nice sculpture garden to walk around and view all the different sculptures surrounding the garden. Or sit in the patio tables with umbrellas and enjoy a drink. It's usually quiet in the late weekday evenings. Good for kids as well. (Aug 15)

This such a lovely space for the community to enjoy. The new sculpture is a great addition, to the green space and fountain. There is a seating area to seat and chat, eat, or just relax. We witnessed and group of about 20 singing a love song to a couple, and then the boyfriend asked her to marry him. It was so special with the perfect backdrop.

Nice place, but the Bean was very disappointing when compared to the one in Chicago. The location of the sculpture is almost difficult to find if your not familiar with the area. There is still some construction going on, so maybe locating it may become easier, but I'm not very hopeful on this. Honestly, there really no comparison....

Be sure to walk up the stairs by the stage seating to take in the view of Houston and the medical center area. The view of the Houston area architecture is gorgeous and so are the sculptures. It's all free. Two garden sculptures were still covered waiting to be unveiled when we were there 8/25/18...I'm curious what they are.

Another fine FREE Oasis in Houston. Shade, tables & chairs, about a dozen large sculptures. Paid Parking minor challenge. Near CAM (Contemporary Art Museum) & Jung (as in Carl) Center. Sometimes small exhibits, functions, & bookstore. Steps to Art Museum, "MFAH," city view STEPS to outside observation level (mesa).

  • Jason August

A great place to visit and relax while being surrounded by so many incredible works of outdoor sculpture. The garden is beautiful during the day, and a very enchanting and romantic place to visit in the evenings after dark, especially if you take the climb up to the roof top garden of the Glassell school of art.

  • Daniel Acosta

This new space, part of the Houston Museum of Fine arts, is part of would be a huge complex dedicated to arts. Common areas are nice and well kept. An elevator can take you to a little roof with great views. I took some nice photos to the medical center and downtown from there. The view is better at night!

  • Daniel Kamakura

To be honest, I'm not a modern art fan, so this really wasn't for me. But for those who appreciate sculpture as medium, or for those who just need to walk around a bit to clear their head, it's a calm, serene space to be alone with your thoughts outside.

It was nice being able to visit, for free, and have something to see on the outside, even though the inside appeared closed at that time of the day, which was still late afternoon.

Good layout for an outdoor sculpture garden. There are ample places for display & when we went there were sculptures that appeal to a wide variety of tastes. Small tables set up if you'd like to enjoy a beverage or snack while sitting in the shade. Cozy getaway in the middle of a bustling city.

  • Sirena Jones

Cullen Sculpture Garden is a small area with unique sculptures and works of arts. I didn't know that such a place existed until I went to the Fine Arts Houston from a parking garage nearby. I did a quick walk to see all the sculpture and that's it. Very interesting but not too memorable for me.

  • Ellen Der

The outdoor sculpture was great, but we went on a cloudy n drizzling day n a little chilly. It would have been awesome if it was sunny. Love the art museum n the history.

the Cullen Sculpture Garden is truly a marvel for both the eyes and the soul. Located in front of MFAH's Glassell School of Art, there are tranquil seating areas, well planned placements of sculptures that span the artistic canon in medium, school and origin. it's a must see!

  • Austin Bonds

I had our surprise wedding here in January of 2017 so I'm a little biased. I chose the site because where we actually first met was across the street in front of the Museum of Fine Arts but it was noisy there. This was a secluded great place for our impromptu ceremony.

Fun, walking around the garden trying to figure out the meaning of the sculptures. Going up the buildings rooftop top at night was a bonus, the city looks amazing at night. Definitely recommend, good luck finding parking. Construction work all around...

  • Hannah Conner

Construction is happening all around the garden, but it remains a peaceful place to visit and walk through. The stainless steel "bean" similar to the one in Chicago is cool to see. Make sure to wander up to the rooftop to take in the views of the city!

  • hanna grace

Absolutely worth the walk around for the rooftop garden alone. Was surprised to find an Anish Kapoor installation here. Great views!

Beautiful, quiet park situated between the new MFAH building and their parking garage (underground). Was the perfect introduction to MFAH. Numerous sculptures and benches throughout, so this would be the perfect spot to sit for coffee or lunch

A very interesting area to walk around. It has a surreal quality in the park where you can go up onto the museum's rooftop and see the city or just meander in the park. The sculpture itself is cool, but I wish they wouldn't have roped it off.

  • Carl Perry

Love this spot. Really close to Hermann park, good spot to hit up for 15 -30 minutes before heading over to the park. The vertical bean is dope, and then walk up the stairs and get a nice view and chill at a table for a bit.

This is like a secret garden. With the high, inconspicuous walls, you enter a serene, lush, and almost silent world... even though it is in the heart of this bustling area of Houston. This is a must do on your list

  • John Atkins

Beautiful sculpture garden with lots of unique and well maintained artworks. The garden consists mainly of outdoor bronzes but also features a large Anish Kapoor piece. Worth spending some time in on a sunny day.

  • Calamity Caller

It is not as large as we had hoped, it's extension of the places around it. I would say it's more of an outdoor dining area with sculptures. It is very nice still yet. It is a lovely place, especially to eat at

  • Michael Clayville

Free outdoor sculpture garden with beautiful works. Not especially big, and it won't take you long to view the whole thing, but there are some really nice items. Definitely check it out if you're in the area.

Marked on the map in the wrong place as it is actually opposite MFAH. Super selection of great outdoor sculptures, great variation . I am excited to go back at the end of the day as the lights come on.

  • jank daddy

super fun to take a stroll through & even take some artsy pictures. has tables and chairs in the garden so you can sit down & drink a coffee, enjoy a conversation, or just have some needed alone time!

A fine sculpture park. It’s free and their are a variety of sculptures to view. My only complaint was that it was sometimes difficult to find the posted information for several of the pieces.

Really nice sculpture garden. Had a can of beer and walked around for a nice end of the afternoon. The school nearby had a really cool stair and roof view of it as well.
