"I'm not sure if I've ever loved a cinema so much"
"The main screen (screen 1) is fairly naff, HOWEVER, screen 2, the smaller more Intimate auditorium has the most fantastic ambience, the images on their website do not do it justice, you could frankly watch a film of paint dryIng in this auditorium and it will be a wonderful experience! The whole cinema including the bar is very very dated, it’s like walking into the 1970s, but it’s kind of cool and fantastic at the same time!! Our favourite cinema by a mile! Don’t tell everyone, or everyone will go!!"
"This small cinema has a slightly unusual layout, because it is fitted into several corners of buildings in a tightly packed city"
This could easily have been a 5 star review. Despite being 20 miles from where I live, I have always considered this cinema to be a quality experience, and it has been my cinema of choice for twenty years - until now! Went to see WEST SIDE STORY on 22 December. In the trailers and ads before the film, I (and several people around me) became aware that there were sound issues and that sound was only coming out from the right hand side of the screen, with the left front channel essentially missing. I gave it until the film started for the fault to be fixed but it wasn't. I went out and spoke to a staff member immediately the film started to make them aware and ask that it be fixed. They said they would speak to the projectionist. One hour later, no improvement. The Left Front channel of sound was still missing taking away a huge amount of the impact the film should have had particularly that sound is a key element of any musical film. I went and spoke to a different staff member, only to be told that there was in fact no projectionist on site so nobody was present to deal with or rectify any technical problem which may arise. Had the first staff member I spoke to been honest and told me this when I first reported the issue I would have left immediately and asked for my money back and gone elsewhere to see the film, or come back to the Curzon Mayfair when the issue was fixed. Completely unacceptable for an organisation which positions itself as a quality presenter of cinema. If Curzon are no longer employing projectionists/technicians to be on-site for every session, perhaps ticket prices should be reduced for those sessions. I will not be returning to Curzon Mayfair as I'm not prepared to take pot-luck that everything will be OK technically. Film-makers are artists and deserve that what they make be presented in the best way possible without technical impairment. I spend approx £500 a year attending Curzon cinemas. Although I'm only one customer, that's still £500 less they will receive in revenue year on year. It would be interesting to see how many other people have attended this cinema and found the technical presentation to be less than perfect.
Went there sat evening for a, showing of independent film Our Kid as part of the Raindance film festival, brilliant cinama, save it at all cost,, turn out support this gem. The turn out for the premier of Our Kid Was simply fantastic, lots, of media there TV and Photographers, excellent film, staff at the venue went out of there way to make it a, great night., I was, there for Explore Liverpool. The film was, Written by Daniel P Lewis and directed by Sean Cronin, star ING young actress Poppie Jae Hughes, who has now just stepped on the ladder to a great future in film and TV,
I'm not sure if I've ever loved a cinema so much. It's quiet, dark, sleek, clean, and not annoyingly crowded even on a rainy Saturday night. The loos are clean and nice. We saw a film in the smaller cinema, and interestingly, the front row centre are the best seats in the house. The chairs recline, you have a small table to yourself, and plenty of room to stretch out. Truly the best experience I've had at the cinema in a long time. I can't wait to go back. It's as if I found the perfect cinema, I'm so chuffed.
The main screen (screen 1) is fairly naff, HOWEVER, screen 2, the smaller more Intimate auditorium has the most fantastic ambience, the images on their website do not do it justice, you could frankly watch a film of paint dryIng in this auditorium and it will be a wonderful experience! This small cinema has a slightly unusual layout, because it is fitted into several corners of buildings in a tightly packed city. The screens are small and intimate, and customer service is excellent. Good drinks are available. During the trailers before our main feature film, I noticed a fault with the audio. Upon receiving my tweet about this, sent from my seat inside the cinema, the Curzon chain responded and within minutes the problem was repaired before the main film began.
A fabulous place to go see a movie, Screen 2 very intimate setting, comfortable atmosphere. Screen 1 bigger auditorium but still a good viewing standpoint. You can take food and drink in from the bar area. Such a shame there was a Petition up calling it to be designated an Asset of Community Value to stop its closure! It’s one of London’s oldest cinemas. Would be a sad day if the cinema was to be made into a bigger club venue next to the existing attached restaurant and bar.
The Curzon Mayfair Cinema is a Grade II listedbuilding at 37–38 Curzon Street, London W1, built in 1963–66 by H. G. Hammond for Sir John Burnet, Tait and Partners, architects. Historic England have described it as "the finest surviving cinema building of the post-war period, it is also the least altered." It is part of the Curzon Cinemas chain. It's excellent and really cool.
This Cinema is rather shabby and looks like it could do with a refurbishment: the bar area is tiny, you can barely sit ten people but the Staff was friendly and pleasant. Upstairs it's absolutely freezing, I don't think the heating was on at all, I was wearing a scarf and few other customers had their coat on. I will stick to Bloomsbury Curzon, that's my favourite by a mile
TOP GUN 2 - MAVERICK ! Brilliant! We hadn’t been before, typically regulars at Everyman but times didn’t work so Curzon we went. Great central location, fab entrance area, and screen 1 is a very cool space. Love the height of the ceiling and the detail. Seats are super comfy. Tasty snack BUT, why hot chocolate is served in a take away cup and not a proper mug!
This is an impressive looking Curzon but it isn't as good as some of the newer ones. The screen is big, but consequently there are a lot of seats so it doesn't feel like the intimate and upmarket experience that you get at others. The seats are a bit tired. They don't serve food either (just popcorn) which is a real shame
A lovely little cinema with great screens, decent snacks, drinks and comfortable reclining seats. Only 3 stars because it still suffers from people being on their phones while the film is playing and no staff around to moderate the situation. It seems that even a cinema in Mayfair still attracts those types.
We were lucky enough to be able to watch On the Rocks at this venue just before the 2nd national lockdown. The place is quite vintage which is lovely, and the screen areas are quite a sight in my opinion - kind of takes you back in time. Staff were very kind, and helpful. Keep well and safe everyone
Very stylish and cosy cinema in Mayfair. My only gripes are service can be a bit slow before a movie due to the two people at the counter also making coffees and cocktails. Also soft drinks are very expensive at e.g £3.70 for a diet coke - more than several restaurants in the area.
Smart, helpful staff, interesting and well-thought out events. A great place to see preview screenings. Comfortable seats (not much leg room though) and a great bar. Overall a great place to watch films, just don't expect too many options as there are only two screens.
The staff do not bother to put on the heating so all early performances, now in November, you will be watching in a freezing auditorium. Even a warm outfit is not enough to keep you warm in a sitting position for two hours. What a pity,
This is probably the most beautiful cinema I have been to in the UK. The lobby makes you feel like you're entering a Business Class Lounge in a 1970s spy film. Both screens are very different. The smaller one has individual lights and
Smallish cinema but entirely pleasant. Not really that modern. Quaint is probably a more appropriate term. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Seating was reasonably comfortable. Parking was available on the street so not too bad at all.
Lovely cinema, especially the main screen, but the upstairs screen is also good. It also has a lovely bar area and what appear to be beautifully restored toilets from an earlier age. They show a good selection of films too.
Probably my favourite cinema in London. Great sound and screen, even if the screening rooms are small and intimate. Fairly easy access to tube station (7 minutes walk), lovely red chairs, very comfortable and fairly priced.
Very nice, 'ol timey' feel about the place. The only negative about this Curzon are the expensive soft drinks and no cup holders by the seats. However I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family
Great little cinema with quite small screen rooms but no compromise to visual and sound quality. The bar is really nice, worth arriving early for and reasonably priced. No cup holders in the cinema seats though!
I LOVE Curzon Mayfair! It’s my second home. I particularly love the smaller cinema; intimate, elegant and cozy! I also adore the kind and helpful staff. All in all, it’s so good, I’m a member.
All I can say about this cinema theatre is OLD. The chairs are not comfortable, tiny & there is not stand for your drinks or food! But it’s quiet & their snacks and drink menu are overpriced
Awesome atmosphere! Love the classic, intimate feel. WAY too hot though - seems like the theatre cranked up the heat to compensate for the comment below. Please do not overheat!
Very pleasant bar although drinks and snacks are pricey. The cinema seats are comfortable. However this Curzon has several screens none of which can be described as exactly big.
I’ve been there first time for a premiere of the ‘Cold war’ movie plus q&a. Beautiful interior, comfortable chairs. Sitting there, you feel like you are in special place.
Went to see Top Gun - Maverick movie here. Love this cinema. Full of lush seats and half empty though it was a NIGHTMARE getting here because of the Jubilee celebrations.
I love beautiful cinemas, this has a charm and elegance about it. Staff friendly and welcoming, has a bar/food /drinks. Comfortable seats. Very relaxed atmosphere.
HATED IT. NO AC, DISORGANIZED, MOVIE STARTED VERY LATE AND IT WAS SO DIRTY INSIDE TOO. WOULD NOT SUGGEST THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. GO TO EVERYMAN INSTEAD :)
Quiet, chilled Curzon venue. Attentive staff. I rarely get to use Screen 2, but it's one of my favourites of all the Curzon branches.
Historic venue. A joy to visit. Good popcorn and drinks. The staff are very friendly and helpful.. Great venue for the film festival.
Had the pleasure of watching a film in screen 2, the most charming cinema I've been to! Really friendly and helpful staff as well!
Just amazing.. one of the best theatres I have ever visited. Fantastic staff and brilliant events available for private members
We saw a film here - if you're charging £20 per person for a ticket, please put the heater up! It was absolutely freezing!
The toilets were an absolute disgrace. Stomach churning. I’m amazed such vileness exists anywhere, never mind in Mayfair!
Iconic Cinema showings you'll remember for a lifetime due to its heritage and ambience. Can't imagine life without it!
We had a perfect cinema experience! Very cozy and stylish lounge, delicious food and very comfortable seats :)
Amazing cinema that is so nostalgic. Also for central London much more affordable than everywhere else.
The interior of the cinema was beautiful. Love the fact you can buy and bring in a bottle of champagne.
Sold out of salty popcorn but not sweet? Sold us these 90g bags from the store for the same price…
Comfy sofa seating , spacious legroom, friendly staff and above all great distinctive classic vibe
Nice little cinema tucked away in the middle of Mayfair. Comfortable seating and easy access
Loved this place, the seats are comfortable, clean and the screen was not bad at all
Staff is so helpful and friendly they helped me with my client in a wheel chair
Good bar. Comfy seats. Nice interiors. Easy access to Green Park station.
Great quirky place, friendly and helpful staff, films to suit all tastes!
Wonderful experience! Most comfortable way to watch Oppenheimer.
Never been here before, comfortable seats and good atmosphere.
Love this place. It does not need to be changed. Iconic.
This is an amazing cinema. It needs to be saved.
