I went here for the first time with my sisters the other day after driving past a couple of times. The food had exceeded my expectations We had mango lassi, 2 with plant based yogurt and 1 without and it was so delicious and authentic. My sister ordered a Bombay sandwich and personally I’m not a fan of sandwiches. However, she made me try it and let me tell you, this will be the only sandwich I’ll eat. The flavours in the food were astounding And the only problem was the extremely rude customer before us who complained about plastic being in his food (I’m sure he put it there himself) as himself and two other men were threatening the owner serving them. The owner didn’t argue back and was listening to them. I’m certain the customers wanted the food for free as the things they were saying to him were shocking. The rest of his family were sitting there and paying no attention. It all seemed a little to planned out to us. I decided to keep this in the review as I saw that he left a review himself that wasn’t true at all. Happy to support I shall be bringing my family here!

I wish I could give this place more stars! I discovered this gem in Jan 2022 whilst visiting Leicester and the food and hosts were absolutely sublime! I had the chilli cheese toastie and a few other bits to take away as we were rushing to a graduation. I literally couldn’t stop thinking about the food for months and was eager to visit again. On my second visit (Aug 2022) I made sure to dine in and order more from the venue and again the hosts were absolutely lovely and the food was SO GOOD!! You could taste the effort and love that goes into making the food and it tastes just like how mum makes it. About the venue, it is brightly decorated With loads of desi touches, there was a Bollywood film on a large screen to watch while waiting for food and also a carrom board if you were feeling competitive. The atmosphere is warm, relaxed and honestly just feels like a hug. Sadly I am not in the area that often but will always stop in if ever the opportunity presents itself. I urge everyone to give this place a try, don’t hesitate, you won’t be disappointed !!

What a terrible experience we had at Desi Street Food Leicester. We decided to go to this restaurant after reading the reviews. We order a few things like Pani Puri and chaat. Since it's a Punjabi restaurant, I was excited to order Sholay Puri, but it took about 30 minutes to get the food, and when I got it, I found Big PLASTIC in the chickpea curry. After I informed the owner, he was so rude and said it happens. This is not a restaurant I would recommend not eating at or even going to. They have horrible customer service, and I think the reviews they have on Google are all PAID reviews, not real ones. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE ! I have added the PICTURES of PLASTIC! Wow experience..what a lovely food. We visit Desi Street food today as I was craving for authentic Indian Street food. We ordered chole bhatura, bread pakoras, dahi puri chat and limbu pani. All the food was excellent in taste , presentation of food and the service . They made everything on the spot. Each items were piping hot. This was honestly the WORST place I have tried for Indian food, We had to wait over an hour for it to be delivered, called in only to be told that they didn’t receive the order, they called back and said they were preparing it, once it was finally delivered, the pav Bhaji (tasted weird and watery, lacked any real flavour) and the Desi breakfast which was a chick pea curry with 2 deep fried chappatis, the chick pea curry was lacking flavour and was really bland as well. The karak chai was just made from powder and hot water, threw it away after a sip. I wouldn’t recommended this place for anything as there are several better options in Leicester.

Arriving in Leicester from Canada, this is by far the best Desi food I’ve had here. I bought two vegetable samosas last week and they were crispy, flavourful and seasoned perfectly. I came back here today and ordered the Panjabi Breakfast and the Pav Meal Deal. The aloo parantha reminded me of home and came with pickle, yogurt and chaa. It was big enough for two people. The star meal though was the Pav Meal Deal: 2 pavs with chips and a soft drink. I got a Paneer Samosa Pav and classic Vada Pav. It was crispy, buttery, spicy and all the unique flavours came through together so nicely. Portions were also quite big; I ended up taking home leftovers. The owners were so pleasant to talk to and made the whole experience a 10/10.

We were on a weekend away and just popped into here for a snack. The food was first class, we had a platter for two , iced latte , ginger chai and it was all that good we purchased more to box and take with us . Prices are reasonable but the food is cooked fresh and better than most Indian restaurants I’ve been to. Owners were pleasant & friendly and I would certainly go back again .

Firstly, the food. Very tasty and reasonably priced, although small portions. After salted lassis we ordered sholay bathora (chickpea curry with fried breads), desi special chaat and carrot salad. Great mix of flavours and textures and a special mention for the salad - sweet and tangy. We also had desserts, kulfi and halwa which were a bit disappointing. Overall I'd give the food 4/5 but I have deducted a point for the toilets, which were horrible. Just avoid them, I won't go into details here.

Hidden gem in Leicester town centre. Very reasonable prices, very authentic and tasty food, fast service, all within a charming setting with Bollywood movie on a large screen TV. There is also a carrom board to play at while you wait for your food. My new fav place to eat in Leicester town. From authentic Indian/Pakistani breakfast of halwa/cholay puri to aalo paratha. The most authentic original delicious Indian food. My taste buds are still craving their aloo paratha. Very fast service and such a good hospitality. The place is small and difficult to find but proves the phrase, “ don’t judge the book by its cover”. The prices are way too competitive and affordable by all the students. A must visit for foodies who want to enjoy the authentic taste of desi food. We really enjoyed the Paneer tikka wrap, hara bhara kabab wrap, veg. Samosa chaat, paneer samosa, veggie samosa, spring rolls and cheese balls with Mint and Imli Chutney . We discovered this wonderful place whilst walking into Leicester town centre from the carpark. We had the paneer spring rolls with a mint dip as a takeaway order. I can honestly say they were delicious. The staff are very friendly and the sit in dining area is really comfortable and feels really welcoming. We will definitely return for more delicious food on our next trip into Leicester.

I’ve been here twice now, following a trip to India, and I will definitely be back. The pav bhaji is on a par with the best I tried in Mumbai, and the samosa chaat is phenomenal. Walked in and picked up a takeaway for lunch. We got some toasties, samosa chat and pani puris. Everything tasted super fresh - we saw the sauces being made with fresh herbs and the food had a real homemade taste to it. The owner is very friendly and generous with portions whilst extremely reasonably priced. Definite must for a tasty meal truly reminiscent of street food in India.

This place serves the best Pav Bhaji outside of Mumbai on it’s all day breakfast menu. There’s a lot of places pretending to sell Indian street food but this isn’t one of them, it’s the real deal serving a spicy mashed mixed veg curry in soft toasted buns, washed down with a sweet masala chai. You’re getting an Indian food classic right here on a Leicester street.

Really nice Desi/Indian street food eatery in a quiet part of Leicester, but only 7 or 8 mins walk from the main shopping area in the City. Authentic decor and vibe. Good selection of menu items at a reasonable price. Staff are attentive and efficient. Karack chai was a nice accompaniment with the food. Would definitely go again when in Leicester

I tried the wraps today and they are amazingly different! Authentic "desi" taste and fulfilling portions. Highly recommended If you are a street food fan, this is a hidden gem you should definitely try PS: Ask for the Imli chutney with the wraps.. Super yummilicious!
