I am just utterly utterly disgusted with the security over at the Hyatt but this time I did not I was just walking through we sat down we got told to leave and move and all that and that it was closed it's an open area why is it closed but yet not only was I told to be to remove myself I was rudely yelled at threatened that if I didn't have my dog with me that would be different outcome. And I know that the police in San Francisco would not help me they would stick to their little underlings security people even though she was the most vicious woman and continued to threaten me the whole time I was there through embarcadero one through four until I finally got to the Hyatt where I had been staying. I had sat down next to a couple and was charging my phone and she comes over there and says you guys got to leave see what you did to me see what I did I ruined it for everybody she said why this is what she did is a complete verbal felony with a terrorist a strike and a violent criminal and believe me she was violent and she called me everything between a crack or Coke crank I don't know some kind of head. to a dirty low life. And all I did was be in the embarcadero after hours. even though it is a completely open . I want something done to this form of life it was after 10:00 and it was embarcadero 3 I believe where she chased me out calling me every name in the book and threatening me that if I did not have my dog I would be I'm serious trouble!!

40 years after construction commenced The Embarcadero Center remains relevant with its three levels of retail specialty shopping, in each building (named Embarcadero One, Two, Three, and Four). I had an office in Embarcadero Two from 199 to 2005 which allowed me to shop in the stores, which was and remains a fun experience. Note: this is not an indoor/enclosed shopping mall. The stores are individual, lining each side of the buildings. Warning: You don't shop at these stores for budget items; all stores are high-end retail. The stores sell everything including clothes, chocolates, sunglasses, jewelry, and other wonderful things. There's also good restaurants. P.S. The entire area is a great shopping experience. There's The Ferry Building which has any kind of food you like, it also has shops. Also cool is the huge weekend Farmers' Market, and the craft stalls on Market Street, on the sidewalk abutting the Hyatt Regency Hotel, the California cable car and near Embarcadero Four. Bonus Tip: The entire area is absolutely fantastic during the holidays. That's when they have the outdoor ice rink at Justin Herman Plaza. And most days they have outside shopping feat. cool crafts! Plus, they have Santa, and high-end fanciful decorations. Lastly, Embarcadero Center employees make the entire area a must visit destination at any time of the year, but especially during the holidays.

My friends and I walked through the Embarcadero Center shopping mall on a Saturday afternoon in late May 2021 on our way to watching our first movie since before the pandemic. The Center was a sad sight compared to our last visit here over a year ago. Most of the stores were closed or boarded up, likely current victims of the pandemic, along with much of downtown San Francisco. We were unable to find any open restaurants, unless you count Peet's Coffee as a restaurant. It was difficult to find our way from one level to another, because many of the serpentine stairways were hidden from view by wooden barriers. Some elevators were not functioning. It should also be noted, particularly by those with mobility impairments, that escalators do not continue to the top Penthouse level, where the theaters are located. There appeared to be a lot of construction going on. Hopefully, this will herald a renaissance at Embarcadero Center as we move forward to conquer and eventually exit from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Divided into "sections" like Embarcadero 1, Embarcadero 2, and Embarcadero 3 (technically their addresses), finding a store can be somewhat difficult if you attempt it on foot (especially those not found on the first floor). But the Center offers some of the most breath-taking views a shopping center has to offer, more so the higher you go. Maybe because floor space is highly valuable estate here, given the high rent, some of the shops on the first floor may not be quite as large as you might expect. On the plus side, however, they tend to offer some hard-to-find items that are either unavailable or often sold out in their sister stores. I am unsure if this is because their main customers are those working in the financial district, or tourists who frequent the area, both, or another reason that I have yet to realize. Easily accessible by public transit and close to the Waterfront, with largely wide open floor plans, Embarcadero Center may offer you an interesting shopping experience.

Beautiful views as always! However, tonight I noticed a security guard bothering a police officer to get involved in what the guard described as theft but what I saw was a person recycling what they thought was being discarded but once they realized that it might not be a curb alert they were already returning it and that's when the guard arrived with all kinds of accusations. Luckily, the officer was cool headed assuring the two involved that they didn't do anything wrong all the while the security guard is protesting "what they tried to steal", fromy pov which seems like a correct view the person thought curb alert but realized the mistake so much to begin to return the wheeled cart with construction waste, and the guard was just being unreasonable.

It's not a crowded place and there's not many tourists. There's tons of restaurants and shops and places to just sit. The Embarcadero Center actually consists of ten structures, but the shopping mall area is four buildings connected by skywalks. The mall is kind of small, comparable to the Crocker Galleria. Also, there's loads of plants and the architecture is unique because it's kind of half indoors and half outdoors. You could sit on one of the many benches or sit under a table umbrella on a skywalk and listen to the traffic pass by under you. However, I don't sit here a lot and usually use this as a shortcut to get from the financial district to about a block away from the Ferry Building.

Lack of directory or signs. Any store can be hard to find since they are "hiding" inside the maze of buildings. The layout is complicated by multi-stories such that restroom finding can be troublesome because there is no sign! This place has always been vacant-some with a lot of shop turn-overs. However, the best feature is the top level sitting area without crowd. This could be a best spot for eating out or just resting from homelessness surrounding the streets and area. The current situation is exacerbated by the pandemic. Who needs office and retail boutique shops?

  • Oya Şanlı

I was around many times, but I did not see such buildings before. Before walking around center first I saw a passage above the street with some ambrellas and sitting area. I wondered about it and just from under I get in a building and saw people were going up using a round turning walking area. In the middle I looked up and saw a discrete flower! I also climbed up circling the flower.. I heard music is coming some where. I realized there were restaurants around.. seeing huge buildings and being among them I took many photos :) planning to visit again..

This place is like a ghost town now. All the small shops are shutting down because of the covid-19 . I really feel sorry for these guys. It's totally not their fault but they're suffering. Fortunately our lease Embarcadero(2) Ended last year in the fall year. We were being strong-armed into signing something to keep our office space. No thank you. Instead we bought a condo at one of the new buildings downtown and no we use that as the office. And pay less. And now the pandemic hits. This could be a good time for a small company to establish a lease.

Embarcadero center stretches for 4+blocks full of stores, terraces, theaters, post office, office towers, etcetera- all that pass over the streets here so that one never needs to cross a street here. I'm not sure how people in wheel-chairs navigate this labyrinth of different levels. There are elevators in each tower though I don't know how to access those elevators either unless you are already on a level that reaches that elevator via escalator. Confused . For those that can walk - have fun exploring the different levels!

  • al grant

I love Embarcadeo Center. I live in San Francisco and use the EC weekly just a fun place with so many wonderful food stalls, restaurants, shops, grocery items, A beautiful building with a rich history. If you have visitors this is the place to take them. Beautiful views from behind the building, of the bay. Or actually catch a ferry to the other side of the bay. EC is open from 10am-7pm. There is parking lots around or a valet in front. But as always if you can walk, or lyft, or bus it do.Y'all enjoy!!!!!!

  • Wendy Leigh

Smaller Mediocre mall with very common shops. No designer or luxury shops at all. Very basic lower to mid level class stores like LOFT, The GAP & Banana Republic. I'm definitely not very impressed with this mall. It closes way too early, I'm always racing the clock to get there before it closes. The Mall is spaced out over 4 blocks and it's hard to locate half the shops. With so many larger malls with bigger selections or designer & luxury goods around then why choose this one? Don't! I won't!

  • Junior Curbow

I have been running around these buildings since I was a kid. The Embarcadero Center consists of 4 corporate office buildings that span 4 blocks and are connected by above ground bridges and or walkways. There are countless shops and restaurants, a cinema as well as countless offices and professional services. Many great places to explore, eat lunch, etcetera. It's also a photographer's playground with all the amazing things to photograph. It also has public restrooms. Check it out.

  • Juan Alferez

The parking in here is a really pain. When they had humans in there everything used to be great, now with automatic service it should work better but instead it's really bad. We had a validation ticket and it wasn't taken and then it didn't take credit card, I paid cash and instead of getting $2 change I just got $1 after paying a lot for the parking. I called the help line and I don't know why they named help, they don't help at all. I'll have to avoid to park in here ever again

  • Steve P

Lovely hybrid mall with a number of stores and restaurants - and absolutely beautiful design and architecture. Came during a little marketplace in which there were many local vendors who set up shop, which provided another great dimension to exploring this area and the mall. Will definitely return to explore other shops. Very close to other popular attractions as well. Parking is very limited and could be expensive if parking in their own parking without validation.

  • Nick Zi Chen

Shopping, Food, Coffee Break, and most of the time I walk through here just for the pure enjoyment of the terraces and gardens or at least the variety plants and flowers and large and small sculptures. Almost a different experience every time. There are nice places to just sit and chill or meet up with friends. There are also a couple of pedestrian bridges to One Maritime plaza. I could walk and linger around the whole area for at lease a hour.

  • Uncle Bacon Face

Just watch out for some of the security guards who have a god complex and take advantage of their position. They won’t help you if you’re being harassed on their property by someone else but they will certainly go out of their way to verbally harass you on their own. It’s frustrating to pay $35 a day to park (albeit great safe parking), to have one male security guard come absolutely unhinged on two women in broad daylight.

  • Joanna T

One of the first established business complexes in FiDi. The retail shops provide food, drinks, entertainment & fitness to all in the neighborhood. EC3 is exhibiting the famous Chinese New Year Parade dragon on the corner of Drumm & Sacramento Streets. My first time EVER seeing the dragon so close! Amazing . Great place for outdoor events in Justin Hermann Plaza at EC4. Check it out...Ferry Building and SF Bay views.

  • Keith Odom

It's always funny how I discover stores here that I honestly forgot were there. The Embarcadero Center is an easy place downtown to get to. It has a variety of stores and restaurants, and being multiple buildings, it's nice that you can travel multiple blocks on the second level without having to deal with the insane drivers. All in all a good place to spend some time, either snacking, watching a movie, or shopping.

  • alimi eyitayo

I love the mini-bridges that connected the four Embarcadero center. However, the estate managers could do better by employing mapping and better signages to ensure that it is easy for people to find their way around the centers (Embarcadero 1-4) I had so much troubles finding it myself and that is why I have taken the pains to take photographs of most stores for easy identification. #ENJOY!

  • Madhu Balajee

Inside the Embarcadero center there are lot of shopping centers and commercial building located. For all first time visitors if you stuck take a complete tour of this building. People who are taking IELTS examination and other people who enrolled for English class there is a center on first floor keep looking for it. And there is also certain restaurants available inside.

  • Con Burnes

Good variety of shops but the part we enjoyed the most was the walkway along the top with plenty of places to sit or grab a coffee. You really do get some fantastic views as you cross over above the various roads and gives a different perspective of the city. Well worth walking along here if you are heading towards the Ferry Building and want to avoid Market Street.

  • Yufei Zheng

It is quite close to fishermen's wharf. Good location! You could stand a higher floor to view the Oakland side and bay bridge when night's fall. Cleaned tables and chairs are placed along the buildings. Brand stores and restaurants are located at every corner as usual. And because of being based in financial district, people with laptops or meeting up occupy cafes.

  • Eddie Valadez

Great shopping options, lots of good places to eat. Parking nearby and public transportation. I personally went shopping for gifts at See's candy. While walking through the Embarcadero Center I noticed a Thai restaurant called Asha and a Mediterranean restaurant above the Thai restaurant. The Embarcadero Center has great outdoor seating and safe places to dine.

  • Kyle Wolfe

Lovely spot to hang out with friends, shop, or just study. The atmosphere and architecture are brilliant, albeit very 80s in some parts of the structure. Whenever I'm coming through the Embarcadero I always stop by the center. Plenty of great photo opportunities, just be warned that security guards may ask you to put away your tripod or apply for a permit.

  • J Williams

There's something about the architecture in this massive, sprawling complex. It is very period and kind of dated, but it works. Its has a sort of sci-fi movie feel. Having a bit if free time I could walk around and grab a bite. Remarkably clean, it is like a maze with cubby areas and an upper terraced area that reminds you why SF IS known for its views.

  • Thomas San Francisco

Always loved this connected center that runs about from the the financial district to the foot of Market Street. You will enjoy the places on the second level where you can roam and avoid the cars and traffic below a great way to travel and shop. There are gardens on the second level where you can reflect and get a break from the hustle and bustle.

  • Kate Stephens

It's SO nice to have actual outdoor seating and green space in the heart of FiDi! The walkways above street level are a godsend for when you need to get to the Embarcadero/Ferry Building quickly without stopping at every light. The complex itself is very safe with security officers patrolling regularly. Lots of cute shops and restaurants as well.

  • carolyn terry

I love the Embarcadero Center. The terrific 70s tile and the amazing world class sculptures. Stunning floral and green displays. It's really beautiful. Sadly, it's not as vibrant as it once was, looks like something out of Omega Man. Very few shops and eateries left. But still my favorite cinema in town. Oop! Cinema is gone now. So sad.

  • Daire Lyne

This is a great little hidden gem for anyone who works downtown. There's a restaurant/bar called the Patriot house which is nestled within the centre which caters to parties and private functions. Parking is always expensive downtown but it can be validated. Make sure to check out their extensive menu, you will be happy you did

  • justin willoughby

Very clean and well structured. There is a perfect balance of retail and outdoor space which makes you almost forget you are in a shopping area. There are so many selections for whatever you are looking for, and the cityscape views are perfect. The underground parking was perfect, and surprisingly inexpensive for a metro area.

  • Kenneth Nourse

I've lived for a month in the attached Gateway complex, worked in several offices over the past 8 years, including WeWork now, enjoyed many business and personal meals at restaurants there, and have seen many domestic and foreign movies at the cinema. Convenient and fun during the daytime, mostly dead at night, unfortunately.

  • Greg A

Split up into 4 office towers with shopping and cafes on the street and lobby levels. Can get crowded during weekdays, people coming and going from work and during the lunch hour everything is taken. Weekends can be almost deserted or closed. Major construction happening in 2019. Detours and closed off walkways are expected.

  • Ken White

Probably my favorite movie theater in SF. The best-reviewed films play here. The seating is extremely comfortable and they have a pretty good snack bar, and even a good wine bar. The staff are friendly and professional. There is usually great parking in the downstairs garage, but it's easily accessed on public transit too.

  • Nettie Ryan

This location was awesome! This was a great place to shop because there are large and distinct varieties of shops to visit. Try their products and for sure you will not regret it. They are striving to provide us with the best service that exceeds our standards. Their quality of service was very professional! Nice! Lovely!

  • Deanna

There isn't anything too special about the Embarcadero Center except for of course, it's location. You have the pier across the street, the Hyatt behind you, and of course, the glory of the Embarcadero. One thing that is quite nice is the skating rink in the winter. No matter how old you are, it's always a lot of fun.

  • Mari Bolton

This place is interesting. Seems like it at one point was hustling and bustling but not anymore perhaps. Went there to see a movie at the Landmark and that was good. Overall though it's in a corner of the city where there isn't much and everything closes pretty early especially on weekdays.

  • Peter Orfankos

I went here to scout some photo locations to shoot various parts of the city from an overpass. There’s various spots to consider that overlook the streets and then there’s also the stairs. If your looking for a quick photo opportunity give this place a try, maybe it’s something for you.

  • Conrad Paz

Strolling in and around the Embarcadero Center was quite lovely. Beautiful architecture as well as picturesque views of the surrounding environment. It appears there were a number of shops that were a casualty of the pandemic, but many remain. Some excellent restaurants to choose from.

  • Erica Cruz

This shopping mall is ideal for a shopping spree! This shopping center is truly incredible, and I'm grateful because it has everything I require. Also, the staves here are extremely attentive, and they politely accommodated all of my requests. Congratulations to all! Thank you a lot!

  • Alexander Jelinek

Let's be real: You come here because your kids force you to. All jokes aside the staff is massively helpful if you are trying to host a birthday party for a bunch of rambunctious 5 year olds and you just don't have the patience.... Or the time... Or both... To do it all yourself.

  • Ann Rose

Banana Republic, Williams Sonoma, Sephora and all of the regulars are there, sprinkled with a few specialty shops and massive amounts of (expensive) office space above. It's all outdoors with cafes and eateries, along with shopping and some night life in the surrounding areas.

  • Neeharika Sinha

Good collection of stores here. This has a good collection of boutique as well as big brand stores. It's three complexes that are connected, tons of shopping and little shops. Also like that there are some pretty awesome places to dine. It gets a bit crowded on weekdays.

  • Naz jawwad

I love visiting Embarcadero, due to its plant collection. You'll find flowers of every season and the indoor plant collection is just so amazing. It has so many brads like Sephora, Sees Candies, Banana Republic, Blue Mercury etc but due to pendamic the charm has gone.

  • Alex Loughead

Love this place. I always come here, not for shopping, but just to explore the awesome maze of relaxing terraces embedded in the mall that extends all the way to Embarcadero. Usually come here to have a coffee and meditate before hitting the gym on California street.

  • MJ Fromthebay

So, I had reserved space at a wework office starting at 5 am. My keycard was malfunctioning and security would not let me contact wework to fix my key card. They made me leave the properties before even checking the computer to see my reservation. Won't be back.

  • Steven ross

Premier San Francisco Highrises office space, with Eating and shopping. Lots of places to catch a quick Bite to eat. Lots if seating and park grounds surrounding areas. Bart and all public Transit at the door step, as well as public parking. …

  • Amy Mar

My go-to place to park when I have a race near the ferry building. Weekend rates are reasonable and you don’t have to worry about the wild outdoors. Make sure to write down which Embarcadero Center you’re in though. They all look super similar to eachother.

  • Yusef Khan

Seems like it's mostly for workers, but still an interesting walkway with nice gardens and minimal "street folk". No visible feces or needles anywhere but most of the cafes are pretty pricey without offering any standouts, and not so great hours

  • Christina Amaretta

Beautiful, quiet outdoor mall that's great to get a few hours of safe, calm rest if your homeless. I found at least four outlets to charge up. Water fountains and open restroom. Really one of my favorite spots inside the city to rest & reset.

  • Crystal Eidanizadeh

Lovely outdoor downtown shopping mall! Great stores, beautiful places to sit to rest or eat. Very upscale. Clean and not very crowded. I never have enough time to spend here. Fun place to visit and hang out. Great unique food selections too.

  • Christian Junge

I really like all the courtyards and rooftop gardens, bridges over the streets, etc. Really pretty and clean, and all kinds of bougie shopping and eating establishments. Not too many bums make their way up here, surprisingly for the area.

  • Scott

this is a nice downtown shopping center, but not really a very exciting place on the weekend. The main reason you would come here would be to go to the movies. Most of the decent restaurants have either closed or changed out recently.

  • Eric Smith

Everyone was nice to me and very respectfull ..my Lawyers and staff made sure I was okay wile we was taking care of business ..and the font desk was also kind to me THANKS I had a great time there they made me feel very comfortable!!!

  • Louis Salerno

Lots to do a at all the 3 Embarcadero centers food shops and museum gave the Landmark Embarcadero Cinema. Nice area never too crowded and close to BART Market Street and parking garages abound. Lots to offer clean and inviting.

  • Tasneem Nomanbhai

Nice plaza to fit in a quick shopping trip. They have Gap, the Loft, BR and some other shops. Stores are average size. You can grab some drinks or food in the plaza as well. Theater on third floor if you want to fit in a movie.

  • Raj Ajrawat

This entire mall is somewhat of a gem within the city. Whereas Westfield on Market is packed and there is always someone losing their mind, Embarcadero Center is quieter yet has the exact same selection of stores and goods.

  • Charissa Schaefer

My appointment was great, and once I arrived in the area, it was very easy to navigate the parking, elevators, stairs, lobby, etc. Beautiful building and gorgeous open spaces with art and plenty of tables in the main area.

  • Charlie Sharp

Worth a visit for fans of late 20th century brutalist architecture. If you can navigate the multi-block, split-level layout, you might find a store or decent restaurant hiding in some corner of this quiet shopping center.

  • Daniel K. Rausch

Truly a great shopping experience and seeing the sites. Embarcadero #1 houses the #1 rated Independent film theater. Be sure to have the Theater validate your parking garage ticket for free parking. Highly recommended.

  • Dyana Curreri-Ermatinger

Lim ex d the reserved seats stem at the Cinema. Bar food at The Patriot bleh...OSHA Thai was good on apps and drinks...special menu selection was pricey and not great (Pad Thai). Lamb dishes were tender and plentiful.

  • Bessie Santiago

This is a huge beautiful mall with tons of great stores- and bargains too. You will save yourself a ton of walking by parking correctly. Embarcadero Center is the best shopping center in this place.

  • Chris Mass

We had breakfast every morning at posh bagels. Really good stuff to go. No complaints..muffins and bagels were always fresh and big assortment of bagels. 3 min walk from hyatt and very safe area.

  • Thomas Wyatt

Cute mall, did not expect in SF. Lots of shops, loved the way it was laid out. If ever in area again would hope to return. During lunch there was some live music being played, was really cool.

  • Shawn Cook

Love the downtown feel of the shopping, dining and entertainment across several blocks. I get my daily coffee, do some people watching and either browse or shop and sometimes take-in a movie.

  • Brian O'Shea

Shopping center that I never shop at, but has a great parking garage. This review is for the garage, since that is all I use it for. Except for Maui Blue. They have great açai smoothies.

  • Ilona Anderson

High end quality products, but a bit of a tourist trap. I only purchased house made sausages from the two butchers located here because everything else we too expense to consider buying.

  • David Carpenter

Historic. Beautiful. Metropolitan. So many exclusive shops. You are basically at the waterfront and Ferry Building. Close to BART, Muni and the excitement that is Embarcadero Center!

  • Alan Dempsey

A beautiful area with lots of shopping options. Plenty of restaurants available. As a visitor from Australia we found the number of homeless at odds with the apparent wealth on show.

  • Dan TheMan

Lots of variety, spacious, visually appealing, and parking lot under Embarcadero 1 (accessed via Front Street). Uniformed security in evidence throughout to ensure public safety.

  • Travis Leak

WARNING These Skateboarders Are Stalking You. Waiting To Rob You After You Are Finished Shopping And Dining. (don't believe those other photos, this is what's really happening)

  • S2ab1h

An awesome San Francisco land mark. Plenty of small/local shops, awesome Cafe', sweets, and dinning places. On top of that you can enjoy the Bay Bridge views and have nice walk

It's a clean spot in SF, nicely done overall. Visited the night of New Year's Eve - before the fireworks. It was absolutely empty, other than the host of Security Guards.

  • Antonio Locatelli

Fantastic shopping area. Indoor but outdoor, great ventilation. Great space to hang out too. Easy access for strolling. Near Ferry building and waterfront. Good security.

  • Kristy Earnest

Oh boy!!! Some of the best shops and bistros in the city are here. Not to mention, a branch of Fitness SF health club. Be prepared for a thrilling experience.

  • Rachelle Chau

A lot of little shops and the inside is really nice, but it seems to always be very empty whenever I go. Maybe because it's the weekend and no one goes?

  • Chris Garnica

Great spot for a wide variety of dining options, from quick bites for lunch to upscale dining. Check out the happy hour at Sens (but get there early).

  • jon cole

It's a fun place. I enjoy all the places around. I'm from Hayward. When it gets to hot on my day off. I'm just Bart ride away and much cooler temp.

Great plaza, lost my wallet recently in this place and the lobby staff found it and the process to get it back was pretty quick and nice.
