Reserved a car for use in the UK from home in the USA. When the family arrived in London, Europcar up-charged us almost $1200 from the agreed upon rate. Much of this was due to their refusal to accept third party insurance which we had already purchased. We were stuck in London, sleep deprived, without functional cell phones and internet, and without any recourse - so we paid the money under protest. 2 weeks later we returned the car, settled up, and tried to forget about the bitter taste in our mouths from dealing with Europcar at Heathrow. A month after our return to the US and after our bills had posted to our credit card, we received a notification from our credit card company that there were fraudulent additional charges from Europcar. No explanation was ever given. We agreed with the card company that the charges were fraudulent. 3 weeks later, we got a bill for a different amount in the mail. Again, no explanation - just a bill. We ignored it, because we don't pay for charges we didn't agree to pay. Three weeks later, we received a nasty letter from a lawyer demanding we pay. Still no explanation of why, but this time full of threats to ruin our credit and (GASP) never rent us a car again. Do not rent a car from Europcar. If our experience was anything close to normal, you will be charged three to four times the the advertised price. You will also receive demands for money long after you settled the bill and paid what you agreed to pay. BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE, THIS IS A BAD COMPANY.

This has got to be by far and away one of the worst companies for car rental ever... ABSOLUTE CLOWN SHOW .. More importantly don't phone up central reservation... It's a FARCE... I called up central reservation.. To reserve my car... They said no problems we've got cars on site... I got a phone call about an hour later just as I was going out of the door.. From the site... . Very sorry sir we don't have a car... In fact we have no CAR until Friday... All my plans.. Down the toilet.... Because of the internal workings of this place... Christmas is effectively ruined... The time I wanted to spend.. With friends and family.. Will not be happening this year.. as hotel prices went through the roof BECAUSE I had to cancel MY ORIGINAL BOOKING because they cancelled my reservations after they made the reservations... For cars that did not exist.... And I would also look at the reviews on the website.... They've got the same stupid corporate reply every single time... I don't think for one instant this company is sorry for what it does... As I said central reservation has got no clue what's going on in the site depots..... So they end up making bookings... For cars that are not there... All my plans as I said have gone into the toilet simply because this company can't get its act together.... I'm going with Enterprise next time

THIEVES! BEWARE!! Even though I was WARNED that Europcar do this - out of desperation to get to Kent (having travelled from New Zealand), I hired a car for ONE day to drive from London to visit my relatives. I paid online - NZD$356 and a further NZD$46.49 for an auto instead of a manual - Total NZD$433.19. I was kept waiting for 45minutes at collection which was really annoying! I also had to pay a deposit of 100 pounds - which I was guaranteed reimbursement. That transaction was 'pending' and didn't go out of my account. But just like the travel to London website warned me, Europcar have taken a month later NZD$287.67 from my credit card account a month after my return to NZ - and on speaking to them, tried to recharge me for the auto, and get further private details about my account. I was assured they would email me so I can send screen shots - but no email. I have had to cancel my cc and get the bank to do an investigation. These people are rogues! They cannot be trusted with your cc details! There is NO reason whatsoever for them to take monies out of my account a month later as all the transactions went through and the car was returned without damage - although I did request that in writing and again assured that an email had been sent - twice!

Rented a car in Mansfield, lady there was friendly and helpfull, no issues about that. Later me and my wife were traveling around Scotland when suddenly we hit a pothole, there was narrow road and heavy traffic, so no chances to avoid it. Problem is not a pothole, is europcar service. Car was completely empty, no jack, no tyre repair kit, no spare wheel, absolutely nothing (later company answer was "it's because we don't want those things to get stolen by you" ). We called customer service, they told today nobody can come, only tomorrow. It wasn't late, only around 18:00. They offered us recovery service to the hotel, but couldn't say even approximate price for that. So we hadn't any other choice but stay in a car for 17hours! After some time they tried to fool me sending damage invoice which was double priced! After what they just told "sorry, it's a mistake" - yeah right. Also I figure out, that UK government should compensate damages like this, but Europcar didn't care about that, didn't made any discount for 17hours waiting in a car, just charged full amount. So this company is not orientated to provide you good service, it's mission is just take money from you as much as they can.

There are as bad as what the reviewers here post. When you read reviews you think are they that poor and unprofessional, how do they stay in business. Like many reviews here. You rent a car from theses and take your money. When some thing is faulty with the vehicle, they don’t want to know. I rented a Ford Focus from London Heathrow It had a wheel bearing issue. I followed the correct procedures and called, emailed, the English is poor and hard to understand, I was promise an Email to see and resolve this (a replacement car ) Guess what … no email. I had to drive to 2 different locations to change vehicle, met with rude staff, even the AA say they are useless. I waiting patiently for compensation, they never reply. I will be patient and give them only some more time to reply. Failing this I will report them to the BVRLA… All they had to is reply, certain staff at Bristol Mead Street, London Stansted and London Heathrow need to be re trained in customer relations or just don’t do the job.

Don't waste a moment of your time on this company. If you must, use a telephone. You'll find yourself hanging up pretty quickly though. They want you to book online. "Quicker and easier online" has become one of the biggest lies of the 21st century - and we fall for it because sometimes we have no choice. EUROPCAR shows you a price for what you want then when you go back to book it the price has increased, sometimes by 50%. Today I clicked 'pay now' for the best price I was offered for 4 days hire (£197). 3 minutes later, having filled in all required details, including my visa card details, I hovered above the 'submit' button when I noticed the price I was paying was now £253 even though the original price was still showing in the summary. So I ditched the website and telephoned. To cut a long story short - the poor man listened to my story then said he could only offer the same hire for £325. What's happening?

This is a shameful company that tries fraudulent tactics to upsell your car and claiming you have to purchase mandatory insurance, despite already having third party coverage. After this incident I have written to Europcar more than 10 times (since May 2022) and the case is still not resolved. Initially the respondent declared that the case is now closed, despite not being resolved. I will personally visit their HQ when back in the UK later this year and already am planning legal action against these frauds. Im my 20+ years of traveling and renting cars multiple times each year, I will NEVER rent from EUROPCAR or any of their group companies ever again. *******The below response is not EUROPCAR but a BOT. If you can provide me with the name of a REAL PERSON, I will gladly discuss with that person the multiple issues I have faced. The below is exactly the continued replies I have been getting ******

Too my surprise Add on fees. After we arrived home, nearly 6 weeks later, Europcar took an additional £71 ($138.51au). This was taken nearly 6 weeks after the return date even though the deposit was refunded within 5-6 days. When I rang them about additional charges I was told it was because the car drop off was a premium area (Edinburgh airport). We had already paid to have the car returned to London. No mention on pickup of more fees at drop off . We had to pay additional fees for a upgrade with gps and air con. Tried emailing them using two different email addresses (mine) but emails weren’t accepted by europcar. This car had already cost us almost $2200 Australian dollars for 4 days. The other two hire car companies we used were great.

Shambles of a rental company. Easy enough to book a car and them take money off you but if you need any customer service, don't expect it. Took money from my bank unannounced weeks after returning the car... sent me about 5 invoices that made no sense. Sheffield branch literally unreachable by phone, I wasted hours on hold trying to get through to discuss when they were collecting the car as it sat on my street for 2 weeks. Europe customer service no idea what they are doing and constantly getting put on hold. Finally resolved my issue after a month of constant calling, complaining and shouting down the phone. Now they are trying to take £75 off me, again with no reason yet expecting us to pay. Disgusting, go elsewhere.

  • Robert Ilijason

I can’t really speak to how well their customer service works as they never return any mails or calls. When you create a ticket you get an automatic response promising a reply within 7 days. After 30 days one do start to wonder if their communication lines already made a Brexit on their own. The actual issue is that they refused to give me a car (or find any alternative or help me get going) I prepaid due to me only having a debit card (same I used when booking online, where they gladly accepted it) and cash. Credit card or bust. No refund on site. It’s only about £50 but if my only option in the future is Europcar, I’ll rather walk.

Europcar UK Customer Services & Europcar Geneve Aeroport Cote Français Do not rent a car from here. The europcar UK website allows you to book a car, I even had it confirmed by email that the car was suitable for winter conditions by europcar customer services. Upon arriving in Geneva to collect the car they told me this car category didn't exist, was not available and I would have to pay for an upgrade. I note in the reviews this has happened to other people. They are falsely advertising their product and will hit you when you have no other option but to upgrade. This is fraudulent, borderline criminal activity.

Europcar is the worst and I mean this in the most unparalleled, peak dissatisfaction I can muster, THE WORST company I have ever dealt with. They falsely charged me €250 for lost keys even though I have pictures and a video of me handing them in! 2 months later I am STILL fighting to get my money back. To add insult to injury, they also charged me £168 for a 34 minute phone call...!!! Unbelievable. Luckily EE have stepped to help. If Europcar were the last car hire company on earth, I would rather chew off my own arms and legs and crawl to my destination on my tongue than use their services.

  • tamasha 247

Shame on you:( If you don't understand about mobility than dont do the job, if you can't provide something which people desperately need, you have no right to play with people who's suffering with disability, I booked my car for delivery through euro car but after two days they say car is not available, which they made 3 false promise to us, now I'm In situation with my son, disgusting government should review that contact with euro car, look at they're poor review, how disgusting are the. I'm going to right a letter to government, this company need to be closed from uk.

Nightmare from beginning to end. Takes at least 15 minutes to get through them on their national line. Was used because company didn't have any loan cars. Arrived late with car eventually after 3 calls. Was told I had to give my card info for fuel if I didn't fill up. I received car full. When I returned it it was full but was still charged. They had said we hadn't needed copy of paperwork when returning car but had agreed car was full on collection..... Also took them a week to collect car once my car was back on the road, even went to the wrong place to collect.

  • Ian Calloway

Don't hire a car from these people. Their service is appalling. They will come up with any excuse to not pay your deposit back, or they will try and keep it for as long as possible before paying it back. If you do get it back it will most likely be several weeks after you returned the car. Their customer service team are rude and unhelpful and will often just put the phone down on you rather than answer questions. Europcar is an absolutely pathetic company. I don't know how they manage to stay in business. I certainly will not be hiring from them ever again.

  • Rebecca Crutchley

I have given 1 star because it is the only way you can comment. If I could I would give a minus score to reflect the extent to which I would actively discourage anyone from using this company. I am considering legal action for being leased a van that was unroadworthy and will be claiming compensation for the significant on costs and stress of trying to get the issue sorted, which involved a 24 hour wait and spending the night in the van at a motor way service station. Avoid at all costs

  • Thorsten Schuell

This company is the worth renting company I ever saw in 30 years of business. They are fully standard and not even move right or left even they done a mistake with an online booking. And if you pay direct they keep your money blocked for a minimum time of period 5 days. I now know why they are finally some how in the USA go bust and just operate like a bad dead and bad company. I will never recommend anybody to rent from this company any car.

  • Amy Barker

We were notified our vehicle booking was canceled just 12 hours before collection. Tried ringing branch to be placed on hold (gave up after 55 mins on hold). Europcar have taken our money and said we will get it refunded in 14 days! Spoke to customer services who didn't care and just said the refund would be processed within 3 days and refunded in 14. Literally diabolical

  • Fraser Creese

Be very very wary of the contract you are signing on vehicle collection, particularly the insurance component and location surcharge. Staff will not fully disclose the implications. All contracts are negotiable. Do NOT accept what is initially being pushed under your nose. For these reasons I will not use Europcar again and I do not recommend them.

  • Andy sayer

Unbelievable, i went on to chat as i was about to book a car with 3star insurance so I thought zero excess. Oh no, still need a 500 euro excess despite the highest insurance. It doesn’t cover you for loss of keys or normal road dust. They said i would be charged for a valet. I screen shot conversation. Best to stay away

  • Stephen Thorpe

Europcar delivered a rental car to me with 3/8 of a tank (despite claiming it had 1/2). It was returned to them with a tad under 1/8 of a tank. They have now invoiced me for a full tank at inflated rates (despite promising on hiring just to charge pump prices). Can't decide whether this is fraud or theft?

  • Duncan Woodland

Booked through their app and paid. They claimed i had not paid on collection, and I had to pay again. After checking with my bank they have charged me twice. After ringing their customer service they denied me twice. Useless bunch, totally incompetent. Won't be using these muppets again.

  • Neville Snell

Cant believe the company can charge my credit card again 11 months after my original hire that I have already paid for in full - surely this is potentially not only fraudulent but really poor practice. Tried to sort out over the phone but passed from pillar to post - avoid at all costs

  • Thomas Williams

If I could give 0 I would phone line on hold for 16min 55 sec then say technical difficulties and put phone down waiting for my car to be deviled for 3 days this is ment two be as stress fee as possible but it the complete opposite vrey disappointed

  • Sophie Dalby

Only used as rental was arranged through Ford while my car was in for repairs. Sent me a car with a faulty gear box which ended up undrivable. Had no other cars available to swap to so was without a car. Charged me for fuel used before car

  • Heather Charles

Terrible experience, a representative turned up to collect the vehicle, he stood 15 feet away from my door and just shouted " are you the guy with covid" , absolutely disgusting behavior and I hope, not standard practice, customer services

  • mark unwin

I can’t give any star...my partner ia a registered disabled person..we agreed to rent a car through the disability process...my partner had to give her bank card details and a £1 deposit for the car rental..we had the car for 7 weeks and

  • C Starr

Can't tell you how disappointed in this company i am. Three charge's on credit card and won't return my email from last Friday Dec,7, 2018. Called them in early Oct. 2018 to clear up a fine of 35 pounds and a toll charge of 3 pounds.By

  • Marion L

Can I give them zero stars? Europcar charged us 40 pounds to relocate our hire car from Gatwick back to Heathrow. Fine - we knew this would happen but a month later they charged our credit

  • Jennifer Sharma

@Europcar_UK Worst Hire company in existence avoid at all costs. £160 for an apparent puncture/Bubbled tire as they can't decide which one it is
