If you're an art lover and want to explore some of the best local and international art, Everard Read is a must-visit. The gallery is one of the best in the city, offering an exceptional collection of paintings, sculptures, and mixed media pieces that are sure to leave a lasting impression. The gallery is well-curated, with an impressive selection of art from both established and up-and-coming artists. The exhibitions are constantly changing, so there's always something new to see. The layout and lighting of the gallery provide a great atmosphere that enhances the art viewing experience. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate about the art they exhibit, making it an excellent place to learn about the artists and their work. The location of the gallery is easily accessible and located in a trendy part of the city. Overall, if you're a fan of the arts, Everard Read is a must-visit. The circa was beautiful but the receptionist that was working on the 7th of October 2023 at the gallery was very rude, as he made someone follow my friends and I like we were going to steal, and accused us of taking pictures although I have taken multiple pictures there before with no issues. He wanted to fine us and I got in an argument with him because I was giving back the same energy he had given us, he kicked us out and “banned me,” from the gallery as if he owns the place, and insulted me by calling me a little girl. He needs some work training. His attitude is very horrible and anti-black despite him being black and you can tell he probably doesn’t like he is threatened by children his own race richer than him and was projecting that day. He needs to be checked

A great art gallery. Very friendly staff. Nice art pieces in yard and in different rooms. Great that they had different types of art. Like paintings, sculptures, botanical sculptures ... at the same time. Certainly a great place to visit and enjoy/relax/learn. Great for kids to see and wonder. Free entry and nice parking outside and also in the yard. Prices not on the labels but you can ask the staff. Labels a little small, A few of art pieces specially sculptures didn’t have label or any information sticked. They have pages on social media but I think it can be great if they have a closer contact with those interested In art and for instance somehow inform them (like through WhatsApp message) of new events, new art pieces or artists visits to the gallery.

I've been going to everard read my entire life with my grandfather. At this point it feels like home, a sanctuary where there is peace and beauty, a place that my mind can come to rest. They have an incredible blend of aesthetic and political art making the experience thought provoking and fulfilling. The curation is incredible and done with esteemed thought and care.Truly one of my favorite places as a Fine Arts student, it never fails to inspire me. It's given me so many memorable experiences with my grandfather which I will cherish forever.

Beautiful art in a beautiful gallery, this is the oldest commercial art gallery in Johannesburg, South Africa which opened its doors in the heart of the city in 1913. The current building, built in the 1970s, is a great example of South African post-modern architecture. Get on the mailing list and go to the openings of their exhibitions. A pleasure to visit and open to the public every day except Sunday. On the Keyes Art Mile, so many other galleries to visit nearby. Spend at least 30 minutes. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Everard Read is one of my favourite places in Jhb. The art on display is always thought provoking and of a high caliber. Sadly, the venue has become overrun on Saturday mornings by people with no respect for the venue or the art on display. There are people everywhere posing & taking selfies... they seem to be 'influencers in the wild'...arrogant & obnoxious. I feel for the staff having to deal with this unpleasant situation and it definitely lowers the tone of the venue

I visited during the week so it wasn't very busy I've went there twice and both time the art was different so they changed the art I don't know per how many times they do that but it's refreshing to know that every time I go the I get to see something different plus it's free

What a delight. Wooden floors, high ceiling, amazing lighting and great international and local South African Art. If you like contemporary art and enjoy looking at sculptures and oil paintings you should put this on your list of places to visit in Johannesburg. I highly recommend this art gallery if you want to see how good South African Art can be.

  • Demi Oddes

Beautiful exhibit, with many artworks. The exhibit is large with many rooms that are well kept. Have a huge array of artworks from paintings to statues, all from South African artists. Everyone can find an artwork that suites their style preferences, from abstract to realistic. Very friendly people that are willing to help.

  • Shosho Myeza

This is a beautiful gallery to visit with a friend. It’s very calm and intimate, the artworks are wonderful, cheeky, insightful and magnificent. This is definitely a place to visit in Joburg. Plus it’s in a wonderful location, surrounded by other galleries and restaurants which you can visit after.

  • The List

Beautiful gallery located in the city. It is a wheelchair accessible 3 story building with mostly outdoor spaces in which the art pieces are displayed. It is really small for a gallery but I think it adds to the culture in the city. Located next to a design office space with a few cool eateries.

  • Phumulani Mazwabo

This beautiful gallery is imaculately adorned with fine pieces of art in the form of paintings and sculptures as well as other magnificent works of art. It's located right in the heart of Rosebank and offers convenience to other similar places of interest.

I expected to see more. Not wheelchair friendly. Had to carry my husband twice in and out the wheelchair on the first floor. no ramp. Then he could not go to the 3rd floor. And there was nobody to explain why. very disappointed. …

  • Clem Jansen

Go there often, my only commend is that the artists should give an introduction about themselves and their work. This is seldom done. Circa is an unique building and I feel privileged to be able to visit it often. I highly recommend it.

  • Vanessa Dube

Glad I got invited to this Art Gallery. It's definitely made it onto my list for places to frequent in 2019! Great place to go and unwind after work and get inspired by all the creativity that they showcase in their gallery. …

  • Shawn Marsh

We had some great exhibitions the day we decided to venture to Circa Gallery. The incorporation of nature into the art. We also decided to explore the beauty of the gallery itself, it's pretty modern and pleasing on the eye.

Everard Gallery is a very well established gallery in the heart of Rosebank, Johannesburg. If you live in the City or you are visiting it is worth visiting. There is always wonderful art for sale in there gorgeous space.

  • Tiane Brand

The circa gallery was beautiful. I would highly suggest an attitude change from the reception/desk ladies. Couldn’t get out of there sooner with the irritable tone we received. Not a very warm welcome at all.

  • Tshepiso Matseke

The gallery is very open and each space has a different atmosphere making it feel like different galleries in one. The light and the green spaces just add a unique touch to the whole experience

  • Ahmad Shokr

Very interesting art gallery, and building. Ground and two more levels (photo of horizon taken from the last one) Strongly recommend for art lovers Entrance is free Parking available on street

Beautiful gallery showcasing local artists. Johannesburg needs more art appreciation venues, this is a great step for that. Free entrance in a building on a busy road close to Rosebank mall.

  • Khali Thenga

I love the art workabouts with the artists. Very insightful! The layout of the gallery is open and there's always enough art on display to keep you interested and engaged with the space.

Stunning visit in a well kept and we'll managed gallery. I adored the exhibits and it's was a fantastic outing for my teenage accomplice as well as my 84 year old mother

  • Eugene Cube

Art is meh, you go there for the installations and exhibits. The vibe is really post modern in that nothing really feels real or average and that's a wonderful quality.

  • Susanne Harford

Always absolutely a most wonderful experience. Stylish. Riveting. Challenging. Thoughtful. Unique. Excellent. Lovely people. Thoughtful events & exhibitions. Recommend.

Really terrible. My girlfriend was chased out the toilet. The unisex thing is stupid. Some guy just barged in while she was in the bathroom. Don't bother

At the time of my visit the intellectual content of the displayed art was "thin" at best, same selected artists exhibited, nothing new and different.
