I Tried to see the Angels kicking in the door after a bad day. Served by a young man who seemed shocked I’d not ordered online. Seemed new. That’s ok everyone learns sometime Not told film was Running late so I walked in on some other movie. Asked about that and told just 5 mins till that end. 10 mins later still going. Film seems to be ending. No - wait for credits now. I might get an alcoholic drink - ok! No wait no one at bar. Ok time to go in - wait. Now I’m told ‘I have to clean the cinema first’. Experience ruined now. All I wanted was some decent music at the end of a bad day. Learner attendant seems slightly more animated. No wait - he does not know how to do a refund and goes for help OK Interrogation by manager when asked for a refund. Why a advertised film is running late should not be a conversation I’m involved in. Ok the woman who seems to be the fixer is onto this. Refund coming. Oh no! Cannot get refund without PIN (who remembers their pin anymore). Fixer offers a voucher instead. So I paid 20+ dollars (oh yeah - the soft drink I bought but I did not drink watching a movie) to not see a movie tonight. But I got a voucher I’ll likely not use because the cinema left a real sour taste in my mouth. Cinema wins Patron loses.
For film buffs this is one of the good cinemas. They show new films plus a healthy selection of older films giving voice to the classics which they so richly deserve. As a medium it might be easy to pass off movies as mere entertainment but any serious academic of social sciences knows the importance of film as an enriching form of text. I recently watched the restored Ziggy Stardust film. It was a total trip through the backstage corridors of David Bowie's formative breakthrough character on stage in his resplendent, garish, glittery glam rock, alien, storytelling persona. It was spectacular on the big screen in the restored version. Whatever your tastes or persuasion, there seems to be a great selection of art-house or festival films shown between the latest releases. As the filmmaker Wim Wenders says, the films that are the most political are the films that try the hardest not to be political.
This place needs an update! The seating numbers were super confusing we had to be the people to awkwardly ask around at what seat number this is and then realise one of the people working there had taken our seats for some reason? When we thought the gold cinemas were able to order food from your seat you couldn’t, so had to go back down to the bar to order food, only to find none of the menu is available it’s only pizza, which tasted a lot like Domino’s across the road.. The rooms were quite outdated and to get to the cinema room we had to wind through a back staircase that was concealing the old cinema structure.. so sad to see this place isn’t as nice as once thought. Would love to see this place restored and maintained. Was a bit of a mess.
The customer service we received from the young lady on Sunday night was absolutely fantastic. Charming, relaxed and super helpful. The theatre itself was great! Superbly comfy chairs with heaps of leg room for taller people. We were permitted to carry in pizza, which we ordered on site, as well as drinks. (There is an alcoholic bar). We also joined as members and took advantage of the members snack deal of two drinks and a huge popcorn for $20. This place offers real value for money and the staff member that we had was great. Definitely coming back. Was a easy night out, drinks, food, movie and so relaxing to sit in great seats all in the one spot.
I love going out to the movies and despite a less than impressive visit, I would still recommend Five Star Cinemas in New Farm. The theater was very comfortable but (likely due to staffing issues), it wasn't cleaned until we were already seated and about 6 minutes before the movie started. No big deal but what is a big deal is the popcorn. If you charge a big price for popcorn it better be good and sorry folks but five star really fails here. The popcorn is underwhelming and I'm being gentle. Cmon guys! Its the iconic movie snack. Failing at popcorn is like putting a moped engine on a Ducati.
It may not be the biggest or most luxurious cinema I've been to, but it is my favourite for one reason: They actually play a wide variety of movies, whether it be an old classic like 2001 A Space Odyssey, or 35mm projections, as well as, foreign films from Germany, South Korea, Bollywood/Tamil, France... It is the perfect theatre for any fan of cinema. Staff members are all very friendly and approachable. The bar at the entrance of the theatre have a small, but good, collection of drinks ranging from wine, spirits and beer on tap.
Lovely gracious service. Went with my wife to watch a movie using some complimentary tickets I won in a giveaway, and didn't realise I'd turned up for a gold class session which the tickets weren't actually valid for (thanks Google!) The staff member in duty was all smiles though and after checking with her manager kindly waved us in anyways. We were the only ones in that theatre so enjoyed a private screening, which made for a great date experience ☺️
Magnificently restorations have given this century old venue a unique charm! First built in 1921 it’s been offering celluloid delight s to locals It was the first twin cinema in Queensland in 1970 and one of the first multi-screen venues in Australia It’s retro chic aesthetically derived ambience will delight those seeking to find their special shangri La I like the range of beverages offered As well as the exotic out of the way boutique films offered
Really pleased with the cinema experience offered by five star cinema's. Check-in was easy and the staff were able to direct us to our seats and answered all our questions (as we had nor been to any cinema for many years). We prebooked in one of three smaller cinema's which offered a very comfortable experience with all seats having excellent views of the screen. The chairs are fully reclining marking the experience very comfortable.
This place is great! Old skool pin ball machines, retro furniture, insanely comfortable seats especially for our taller friends that avoid movie theatres, economy class on planes and buses. Heaps of leg room! You can order a pizza and cocktails and take them into the movie and have an excellent night out. The girl that took care of us went above and beyond. I hope all the staff are as cool as her, because we're coming back!
Great nostalgic cinemas. Love the comfort features, the intimate little theatres, great seats all at a great price...until you order food or drink!! A 150 ml glass of Rose for $12 is a bit rich for me, I did enjoy it though. The hot food menu served in the theatre is expensive and of rather low quality, sorry to say, but it's the truth. Won't stop me from coming but I won't be ordering anything to eat while there.
The cinemas staff are very friendly. Can't get over the fact that they have insanely bright exit signs that severely impact the enjoyment of most movies, especially for darker movies such as Batman. Surely something more discrete that would still meet health and safety regulations is possible? If the exit lights were fixed to be much less bright I would give this a 5 star review.
Such a cute cinema! Clean, comfortable seating, friendly staff. Would be nice if there was maybe 1 or 2 more staff members, before our screening someone held up the line and a a lot of people missed out on the start of our movie. But I had a fantastic time. my favourite cinema now. Just make sure to book online, and arrive early with time for snacks etc.
These cinemas are actually so great. It's super quiet so there's always seating, they don't do allocated seating but because it's so chill there's never any trouble finding somewhere to sit. Only downside is it charges you a $5 online booking fee which is crazy to me. Online is better all round for everyone why are they penalising people for that
Came for barbie weekend, the retro cinema was great and staff were lovely but the food was too expensive and I ordered the chicken tenders and they were mushy and freezing cold in the middle. Would be back just not ordering food again. I get it was a busy weekend but wasn’t happy with the food price to quality ratio. Defs eat before you come here
Great and cute little cinema. The prices are fair, the staff was friendly. Only thing missing is caramel popcorn they only have salty, at least when I went; but it's just a personal preference, because they have many food options and a nice bar area. Have no idea about the parking because I went there walking. Would definitely go again.
Fantastic little cinema, Tuesday’s are $12 movie deals, great snacks and they serve beers as well. Rooms are small, seats are comfortable and the whole setup is quite nice with and old classic feel about it. It’s a regular place for a chilled movie night. Highly recommend as it’s an independent chain and livens up the local community/culture.
Good venue and location, however the staff is slack and needs some training. We ordered tickets, beer and popcorn --- there were deals available for this order but person behind the counter didn't even say a word. Not impressed when the staff don't know/remember the deals that are available (without any voucher - just general).
I went here with my brother. We saw bullet train. The movie was really good. I liked it that you were able to take in the alcohol, we'd purchased from the bar. It wasn't a big cinema, so more relaxing to watch a movie, without being overcrowded. I definitely recommend trying the cinema, you won't be disappointed.
Great cinema, good food (even delivered in to you during the film if you are in the gold room!) Good beers behind the bar and comfy seating with obviously the audio and visual quality you expect from a good cinema. Also not air-conditioned to make you feel like you're viewing from inside a fridge which is great!
I was really disappointed to find this cinema which I had been going to for years refused to accept cash as a payment last night, sadly businesses refusing to accept cash only hasten a cashless society, stop for a moment and consider how that would look. From now on I will not be able to come to this cinema.
A great boutique cinema. The owners have put a lot of love into the restoration of the building, and retained a lot of its character. Tickets and snacks are really well priced and the seating is comfy. The audio setup is awesome and so much better than the big chain cinemas. Highly recommended!
Food and drinks are a little dear but its a beautiful old cinema. Thanks for rescuing us from the constant barrage of underwhelming superhero movies headed our way lately. Heaps of niche/indie/cult stuff on all the time which is fabulous. I saw and enjoyed the Spice Girls there a few weeks ago.
Went to see the George Michael Uncut movie. Comfy seats, small screen by today's standards but gave that more intimate feeling. Biggest complaint would be the pizza, order from the cinema and watch Dominoes deliver and pay a premium for the most ordinary pizza.
Beautiful small cinema in my favorite Brisbane's neighborhood: New Farm. Comfy seats, lovely customer service and a great choice of food and drinks. I would totally recommend it! Interesting range of movies for a chilled evening, what's not to love about it :))
love this cinema! it’s been my local for a few years now. i think i’ve been in every room, all the seats are great, super comfortable. love the intimacy in the smaller screens. looking forward to coming here many times in the future. popcorn tastes great too
Fantastic cinema - comfortable seats, cheap tickets (make sure you sign up to their club) and great audiovisual quality. The only small downside is that parking can be difficult to find nearby, but that's par for the course in the busier parts of New Farm.
This is a fine theatre! There are nicer and newer ones throughout the city but it's pretty good! The concessions seem a bit pricey, but the staff are always super friendly! The food is also pretty good and I love having other options besides popcorn!
Beautiful cinemas, friendly staff, always clean. Take a blanket or you will freeze to death. I am not kidding, I've never been colder in my life. Everytime I go, especially in cinema 5. I mean seriously, AC is great but this is out of hand
Staff were absolutely clueless. Was like they've never worked there before. The chicken karaage was actually just chicken nuggets. And it took them an hour to bring the first drink through. The surround sound was garbage. When the staff
Older style cinema, but very clean & tidy with comfortable seating & has bean bags yes bean bags to sit or lay on at the front close to the screen!! Extremely comfortable Will be returning to watch more movies here for sure!
Great place to enjoy movies, very good customer service and comfortable couches in the theater. Toilets are clean and good range of snacks and food choices. It is definitely a good place to give yourself a treat and enjoy a movie.
Lovely staff, fabulous old style venue. Management allowed me to change tickets from a different Five Star venue which was very understanding. So happy they screened Rocky Horror Picture Show for Halloween and we got to dress up!
This cinema has been refurbished to be much like it was before it closed years ago, looks great and feels comfortable. I'd add extra stars if I could as these folks have installed a projector and show the occasional 35mm print.
Really fun night at the opening of Star Wars. Apart from the usual idiots trying to hold onto three rows of seats for their "friends"... The venue is great and the service was professional and everyone had a smile …
Good place to have an Italian movie gathering. Staff welcoming. Everything clean. Only with the mini lunch gathering, tables were not well arranged (65 attending). Coffee, tea, cold drinks all good. Tasty hot chips served.
We had this lovely man called Jaydrian and he was super nice and friendly and he even made me a pink lemonade even though they didn’t have them which was so nice and made me happy and it was awesome and he rocks!!
Great value for a pensioner! My boyfriend & I first went here months ago to see Bohemian Rahpsody! Which we truly enjoyed! There is many old 30s movie posters outside the cinema! Great little cinema experience!
My partner and I have been here twice together and both times it has been filled with staff who are flustered and unsure. Website didn’t allow to book tickets at all. Then called to find there was seats
Great cinema, very chill. It’s my go to for movies in Brisbane. They did not have the aircon working one time in the cinema when I attended. However, they are that dam good. I still give them 5 stars
Love the heritage of this place. It's very old fashioned but there is elegance in this place from the carpets to the chandelier. The team do a good job and always so their very best to accommodate
It's so refreshing to have a local cinema where we can still interact with real people! It has such a great community feel and I love visiting during their special movie screenings.
Well the place is little run down but staff were helpful friendly and seating in gold class was good shame the don't deliver food drinks to your seat like other cinemas
Great value at $16 a ticket. Join the purple club and receive two tickets for $22 for an entire year. The owners have restored this old cinema keeping it's 70s flavor.
Was a really great experience. Comfy seats, good popcorn. Wish the unisex/ambulatory toilets didn't have the same entrance as the ladies but it wasn't a big deal.
Definitely needs some work but the spirit is there for the place. It feels like the ground level employees are doing the best they can with what they're given
Honestly stunning retro cinema, sound and video was on point as well in the purple room. Without question I'll be catching more big and old movies here
Classic cinema with really lovely atmosphere, seats comfortable, sound excellent, surprised we could take a wine in and enjoy whilst watching 'Sissy' *****
No cash, no bussiness, I will not be going back. Short sighted bussiness's like this, not accepting cash, will push us towards totalatarianism.
I have been here a few times and love it. Drinks are a tad expensive but the atmosphere is great. Staff are always friendly and helpful.
Great atmosphere, clean and tidy venue, reasonably priced. I had a really great time watching Sissy and will definitely be back! …
A lovely boutique cinema. Recliner chairs, seating is not allocated. Reasonable selection of munchies available. Tickets are not cheap.
A lovely cinema with a good space for events. Helpful pleasant staff. On street parking can be difficult, but eventually you find one.
Amazing night for the premier of VIY the lost tapes. Great cinema wonderful place to experience an Awesome Film. …
Hands down best cinema I have ever been to was clean and very comfortable seats and good customer service. This is for the theatre.
An amazing cinema. A collection of new releases and classics, this is a must visit. Already lined up a bunch of movies to see.
Most enjoyable and authentic old school movies experience I've had in Brisbane (but with comfy seats and a great menu)
Loved this cinema. Went to see Aliens (1986) there for a retro evening and loved it. Will definitely be returning
connected to the projector and started watching the new Matthew Beem video everyone loved it definitely recommend
Very lovely venue. We had an awesome event and a lovely evening watching A Place to call Home the Final Chapter.
My fav cinema. Staff are so lovely! Genuine, original retro fitout which harks back to movie going of the 70s.
Great venue! The seats are amazing, really good views from most seats and relaxed vibe, with good beers!
connected to the projected started playing the latest episode of lana rhodes channel everyone loved it
Meals ordered for dinner in gold class came 1hr 45 mins in, with 10 minutes left of the movie.
Great theatre with a good atmosphere. No parking on-site and limited parking on the street
Lovely building, good set up. Very busy due to the Barbie movie but staff were wonderful.
Nice cinemas with decent food combo deals. The price to see a movie could be cheaper.
It's great to see someone still screening alternative movies. The cinema was full!
Great and quirky cinema. Came to watch 'The Room' - loved it - can we do it again?
A nice little picture room, clean and cosy, seats comfortable and staff polite.
Best cinema with lovely staff and movies out that are not all mainstream!!
Great cinema. Become a member for much better value ticket prices
Any place that doesn't take cash gets 1 star. Will not return.
Very comfortable seating and clean. Awesome staff, thank you.
Great. Really great atmosphere. Cute place.. …
Nice retro cinema, friendly staff and super clean.
No venue parking but the actual cinema is great
