I have been shopping in the Birmingham branch more regularly since moving locally. Sadly I think the current crop staff are extremely rude & unhelpful and I will unlikely be seeking to go there often. Recently I went in to get advice on yu gi oh for a Christmas. I do not know about the product but the member of staff answered my question with 'can't you just Google it' Another time I was in store browsing for myself with my young son. He became distressed which for a baby can happen, I was trying to calm him by getting a bottle off the buggy and he calmed quite quickly however a staff member had became quite agitated and stormed off, before having a very loud conversation about being proudly child free to a colligue. Today I popped in on my way to a train for something to read, the store was empty however the member of staff barked at me to leave it on the counter. Recently I have been visiting World's apart; Smallbrook Queensway, they are far more knowledgeable & friendly. I will be going their in future edit; they initially replied to this review saying they would be in touch to respond. That's now been deleted & they have not been in touch..

The 'new' location is awesome. Much bigger store with upstairs and downstairs. The guys that work there are always happy to offer advice or try and help if you can't find what you're looking for, or even spending you're money for you without being pushy (I walked out with £35 worth of books without intending too, but the guy I was talking to shared the same passion I did and recommended me some stuff without being pushy, and here we are). I've found comic book stores to be pretty daunting in the past, especially when you're not sure what you're talking about and you're made to feel stupid because you don't know and you're not nerd enough but not here. This store is welcoming you can tell the people that work there are genuinely passionate and want to get as many people involved as possible without patronising them. I probably visit once a week and never had a bad experience yet.

So if i'm being honest about two years ago if i was reviewing the place i would have given it about 1 star. Because mainly of the staff and lack of material and just overall the place was suffering. However this place has had a redesign and let me tell you its frickin amazing. The staff are extremely friendly there is a lot more material of comics rather than merchandise. It's a lot more organised of a place. It has some great manga section the place is great. This staff guy was struggling to find some spare change and i was like its fine keep it but no he insisted and said no we wont accept money is money. The staff greet me and honestly the place is amazing. I definitely understand the bad reviews from the past but give the place another shot its so much more epic now and i cant believe how great they have made the place.

A great place for a comic book geek like myself. It doesn't just do comics though. It does a wide variety and range of other forms of popular entertainment. These include Star Wars, role playing games and a whole lot more. Even I'm amazed at what other things they stock. You can get most things to do with DC and Marvel comics. From the comics themselves to statues. And a lot of other things. There's always a good amount of stock and plenty to purchase. Which for a former comic book addict like me is always dangerous. I'd advise allowing a good half hour to look around. However if you're like me you'll be spending a lot more time there. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your visit.

The place felt great, it's awesome to see a place so packed with goodies it was hard to turn to a display I didn't want to take a look at. They have card games downstairs (I mean a lot...), Board games, books, posters, figures, collectibles and so much more. They even had nerdy snacks, like the collectible chocolate frogs in Harry Potter. They have items that are priced well below the RRP, they may be older items, but it was great to buy something considerably cheaper than I'm used to. Was clean, the staff were friendly and helpful. No actually issues, I usually have something negative to add to a lot of places, most ain't perfect even if awesome. But this one was great.

Forbidden Planet New Street is an absolute paradise for any sci-fi and fantasy lover! The selection of merchandise is mind-blowing, with shelves filled with comics, action figures, collectibles, and my personal fav the manga. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to help you find exactly what you're looking for. You can spend hours exploring the store without getting bored. This place truly caters to fans of all ages and offers a truly immersive experience. Forbidden Planet New Street is a must-visit for any pop culture enthusiast such as myself! Without a doubt I'll be back again to buy another book of berserk!

I’ll give 1 star because even though I love the items and stuff that they have there but I’m not happy with a tall skinny older guy with glasses. He is so rude and unprofessional. If there was a English/Caucasian girl there he would give best customer service to her which happened before he served my sister but when me or my sister who is clearly not a standard image for him that’s when he treats you like dirt. I don’t know how he works in a cool store like that where everyone should be welcomed. He needs to be reported.

  • Mollie Stokes

Very poor experience in this shop. The alarms went off as we were leaving so we stopped as any decent person would in case the staff wanted to check our bags etc, only to be accused of stealing. They said “well you’ve obviously got something on you” which we were baffled by as if we were actually stealing why would we stop. They then proceeded to say “just go” treating us like some criminals they did not want to deal with and embarrassing us in front of other customers. Will not be returning.

  • Susan Lococo

Visiting this amazing shop with two gaming mad teens was an amazing experience and definitely not at all what I expected. Even though I didnt understand a lot of what we were looking at, its one place you need to visit, to see what totally mind blowing merchandise is on offer. If you love Batman, Dr Who, movies such as IT, Marvel Comics and more, you will love this shop. Check it out and find that unusual item you never knew you needed so much.

  • Dal

Found this one to be much better than the Wolverhampton branch I visited last month. 2 whole floors of interesting pop culture items. Still a lot of things that can be found cheaper online though. It's my daughter's absolute favourite shop so I've been in a couple of times now, and will no doubt be back many more times at her request. Very easy to get to on public transport, as it has a Metro tram stop right in front (Bull Street).

  • Heather O'Sullivan

Very close to the town centre, but far away enough to be a little quieter. Situated right next to the Bull Street Metro Stop and easy to access (however, the downstairs area is accessible by a narrow staircase. I didn't see a lift available). Friendly and we'll informed staff that obviously love the geek-life, and although the prices are typically quite high (as you'd expect!) there are bargains to be had. Worth a visit.

  • Adam Allsopp

Great place to visit if you're into your comic books & collectable figurines etc. A short walk from the town centre itself, I found their to be a very large selection of items on sale here. Staff seemed knowledgeable about future releases and seemed happy to check stock on various items. Prices on par with other type comic book/collectable shops around. Would definitely return for their 'Funko Pop' aisle alone.

  • Vinny M

Although many of the products sold here aren't what I'd usually buy, the staff are really friendly and willing to help, and they always greet me upon entering the store. The variety of products here are excellent, for lovers of video games, comic books and films. Loads of collectables, board games, and merchandise too. I sometimes come here if I am waiting a long time for the next tram to arrive!

  • Jemms W

Great store - staff are friendly (more than happy to offer recommendations), and there was a great variety of stock in the store. We stayed for around 40 mins just looking around and admiring all the nerdy displays! They had a great selection of books, comics and board games upstairs. Would definitely recommend going in and having a look if you're in the areas and interested in games or comics!

  • Holloway “NARKASIN” Thomas

Love this shop. Bought so many items from here and I'm not even from Birmingham, Harry potter fans hold on to your hats because there is such a huge section downstairs with so many cool things, very close friend of mine melted when seeing it. Huge supply of D&D as well which ticked so many boxes in so many ways, great insight from the staff as well which shows they know their stuff.

  • Joshua Vaughan

Absolutely amazing, as a local guide I would recommend this to anyone interested in games. You don't have to label yourself as a nerd when you come in here you don't feel intimidated It is one of a kind. The shop offers a variety from batman to adventure time and Assassin creed to Pokemon. It is very modern including a peaceful downstairs where there is even more to look at.

  • James Eagle (ThatEnglishChap)

Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Selection seems smaller than it used to be, and it often takes a long time for new stock to filter in (though this isn't the store's fault, stuff is widely available in the US for months before shipping elsewhere). Upstairs is mainly toys, downstairs is mainly books. The 3 for 2 on manga has saved me so much money over the years.

  • nedos nedos

Staff members ignorant of hidden disabilities and refused use of toilet despite presenting a can't wait card. Was told it was due to being for Staff only, despite being a medical issue, and despite previous staff members allowing use. (Female manager declined use , maybe one day shel know what it's like to suffer a horrible illness and need help and be refused)

  • Photography 101

Whole place was clean and most staff were nice. But when I went to pay one staff member started to sigh at me as I was trying to transfer money and my card got declined, he said “You either don’t have any money in your bank or you need to get some” was not happy about the way he spoke to me. Overall was nice except for that member of staff

  • Nathaniel Scott

The atmosphere is amazing like minds, interesting people always open to help you find what you want. The staff are amazing friendly welcoming. They will hold items for you when you ask remind you when your next issue is out, recommend products based on choice even based on your clothes if you're wearing merch. Can't recommend enough.

  • Lee Vincent

Great selection of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Comic book and Manga, memorabilia and collectibles. Fun place over two floors, including books, games, and rare items. Could easily so be a couple of hours if just browsing, but staff knowledgeable and helpful, so if you are looking for something specific, you have a good chance of finding it here.

  • Benj Cusack

Amazing place for anyone wanting to buy collectables, comics, manga or just going to browse in general. Staff are fantastic and very easy to talk to unlike most other shops staff. I have bought many comics and collectables from here and would not hesitate to go back! Prices are reasonable but can get a little out of hand sometimes.

  • The Bad Stop Motion Guy

This place is decently big, you go in and the DC Multiverse figures are straight infront then left, and more forwards is the Marvel Legends, if your shopping from the website to the store then don't because some figured you might want the but isn't online will be instore, only thing is that my Mk1 Spideys arm broke off pack …

  • Josephine Nicholls

Excellent store for all your comics and film / tv figures/t shirts etc. My daughter brought some pop vinyl as she is a fan of them and a large amount were in the offer 3 for 28.97. One staff member is always helpful and knows a lot about the film and programmes etc he gave my daughter tips on how to choose which blind boxes.

  • Gary Wildgoose

I think the Birmingham store is my fave . Lots of collectibles upstairs and a great array of comics and graphic novels downstairs. My big like about this one is the huge stock of art books they have. Not found a store with this amount of stuff for a long time . They always have some good bargains here too ...

  • Derf

Definitely the place to go for new comics, manga, figures, and collectibles. Smaller than the London forbidden planet, but still has great products and staff that know what your looking for and are experts in the products there. I had a lovely conversation with one of the staff, defiantly a great dude, 6/5.

  • Sami Alam

An excellent comic shop/gaming/FanFiction place. Offers a variety of entertainment on sale from Books based on your favourite Video games to Board Games - Wall Posters to model figures of your favourite characters and OBVIOUSLY comics. Prices are good and as a teen I couldn't recommend it more!

  • Vertekins The green

Excellent store with a wide array of merchandise and comics. I get my monthly IDW Sonic issues from here which are held for me and the very cool dudes here even save each cover variant of an issue so I can pick what one I want. Staff are courteous and overall a pleasant shopping experience.

  • Liz Lansdown

Very empty store for the space it has with limited ranged beyond what is currently 'in'. Looks and feels like the London one exactly but doesn't have that same bookshop feel and the ability to find a hidden gem from something not part of the current trends like the old stores used to have.

  • Adam Iqbal

Has a wide selection of popular manga, usually with a 3 for 2 offer on, which usually makes it worth purchasing from here rather than Amazon or from other retailers. I like the shop layout and how different types of products are segmented as it makes for an easier browsing experience.

  • Lucy Hargrave

Came here to buy some new dice for D&D but found the selection really poor. They only had a few sets and they were very standard - nothing special design wise! Left without buying anything. They did have a large selection of comics and collectibles but that isn’t an area I know about.

  • Alexander Bradley

Great place for all things geeky. Friendly staff and plenty of cool things to browse. Just be aware that the store is older than say some new stores like Birmingham, so there's a lot more clutter to search through if you want something very specific. Otherwise a great place to shop.

  • The Crimson Emo

A fantastic experience for all your geeky comic book and collectable needs. I've been coming here for years and it's never a disappointing experience. Friendly staff a huge variety of comics, manga, anime, video game merch. Pretty much everything you could want in a comic store.

  • Frannie Quinn

I love this branch of forbidden planet, the staff always have amazing suggestions and I’ve not been disappointed by their recommendations yet. Customers tend to be very friendly too when you’re politely squeezing past each other, would recommend this branch …

  • PennyRoyal T

Really mixed range of tabletop/ card/ all kinds of games. Although not a massive amount the choice is hugely varying. Fantastic graphic novel, and comic book selection. As well as artwork, and figures. Staff were also friendly and helpful. Really love this shop.

  • TJ Williams

I love their 3 for 2 deal on their mangas, makes buying them in bulk a lot cheaper. My ownly issue is, I really wanted a certain manga and they only had one left but it was a slight bit damaged on the corner and a bit marked apart from that its an awesome store

  • Ross Purchase

Great products, from comic books of all our classics, to great action figures, posters & a good atmosphere all round. Plus the staff are so helpful in finding what you want. Great place all for all you colletors, & great for people just getting into comics too.

  • Aimee

Comic cave downstairs, collectibles galore on ground floor. The staff are always enthusiastic to talk to you about your choices and interests. Clean, bright, and easy to navigate store. You'll probably always find a Funko Pop figure that you "need"!

  • Annie Itsameee

Loved this shop. An abundance of merchandise and great selection of manga and comic books. Staff really helpful and the shop floor upstairs and downstairs very clean. Some good deals eg 3 for 2 on selected manga and generally well priced. Brilliant

  • James Haigh

One of the better forbidden planet stores I've visited and loved the huge USS Enterprise-D hanging from the ceiling on the upper floor. Was very Star Wars based when I visited but I guess that's understandable considering The Force Awakens

  • Alex Webber

If you like comic's and figures this is the place for you. There is a massive choice and there is something for everyone. The prices are very fair and won't make you out of pocket as there is aways a little bit of a deal on. Also there is

  • SAB photography

It’s clean and bright. Has a good selection of items across all genres and is generally well priced. It’s all set out very well and it’s easy to find what you need. Staff are on hand to help if needed and are knowledgeable and friendly.

  • Kirsty Whittall

Wide range of geeky goods, while expensive it's very easy to realise that you're getting hold of relatively hard to get items. They sell board and card games, comics, books, figurines... Anything your geeky heart desires! A must visit

  • David Hackney

Really cool place, as a massive Star Wars and Star Trek fan they have everything you could want. Also they have a really good selection of Sci Fi and Fantasy books as well. Have brought a few books from them would highly recommend.

  • Hash Shandycoot

Uncomfortable shopping experiences. Staff follow you aroud, stare at you and pretend to stock shelves right next to you. I understand they want to deter shop lifters but maybe they should acknowledge shoppers as they enter instead.

  • Mike Byrne

Well worth a visit. Small but very compact with two floors. Good range of comics, Manga, Graphic Novels, figurines and other merchandise. Good selection of related board games and posters too. Friendly staff that let you browse.

  • Chris Lavin

A good selection of scofi and geek stuff. Supported with a good website. Dificult to get to lower floor if in wheel chair or have mobility issues as it has a steep.set of stairs. Staff really nice here!

  • Clarence Dass

  • Sarah Dempsey
