Though I've yet to visit... 5 stars for reasons to follow... I, Caleb Darius Parker, offer the greatest of all my wishes, and gratitude to this very location and those who care for the grounds, see that each family may have the oppertunity to grieve peacefully, and thanks to the soldiers and many other loved ones I may not know of whom have made it possible for everything we have today - though I do not quite show constant belief - as well as the God who watches over us, and my Great Grandmother Moody's burial site, family, and friends from up above. It is without a doubt that I hold the deepest of regrets for not visiting this location, especially on the day of my Greatest Grandmother's funeral. I lacked the courage, strength, and will to put my uneasy heart and mind to rest. Through the hole night I dreaded every restless moment filled with anxiety, and more so feared the greatly expected disappointment, dissociation, and scolding from some of my family members for not being present to express my deepest feelings, show my gratitude for the time I truly was blessed to have been granted in my great grandmother's presence. I was not there to support my grandfather, who I love deeply and cannot quite say I'd know, or even come close to fathoming what it is to lose a mother... I loved Moody very much. I remember fairly little time, but a lifetime of adventure, if not propped on her lap staring out her nicely decorated window, and seal, then running about with my siblings, cousins, or simply other guests. I did love her, she did love me. We knew not much of one another, I was young and her memory was fading. I do know, however, we were related and granted me oppertunity to be brought into such a world. Without her, I would not be here today, and I will do the best I can to make sure I live my life to the fullest and hopefully even past her experience of 93 years. I pray, not so faithfully, more hopefully - for lack of knowlege and wisdom, that my Moody is in a better place, sharing tales of the greatest triumph she's had her on earth with angels above; that each and every one of the supportive family who made it out there will grieve gracefully and, in her better wishes, move on with their lives purposefully and in great aspiring strides; that those who do not condone my choice not to attend such a traditional, emotional, and supportive grieving of a gathering... That... I hope I may be forgiven for my weakness to attend a funeral of a woman I've lived only a few blocks away from for the last 2 years, and selfishly I've tended to my own needs, wants, or even others... Yet neglected to even visit for a measly 20 minutes just to remind her who I am and admire her beauty of age, wisdom, and everlasting portrayal of liveliness. To her, to those in shame, to whom else needs it, I'm sorry.

11/21/20 Sat. 2:20pm.. We went to visit my mother grave site, it would have been her Birthday! She would have been 87 years old. The place is a beautiful, well kept, clean, and quiet place to come and rest and of course close to the highway! I'm glad she is here and Not at any of our other unkept Cemeteries that this city can't seem to make those owners understand, that they charge all kinds of money to the family that is left grieving over there loved one just to to come to a dirty, uncut, mud filled, ant infested place!!! And Nobody can cut the grass and make sure it is kept well that the headstones aren't broken because of there heavy machinery driving on top of those dead paid for once live people!!! The only thing that is a small problem is that sometimes there is no water pump that works and if you didn't remember just in case to bring water well either you walk through out the grounds and find one that is on or you go back to your car and see if the office doors are open which they are not if you happen to come by after 5pm., so then you really have to leave and go buy some water your your beautiful flowers won't die as fast in our sometimes very hot summers?? Other than that it is a very good place, I do like the quietness of it all.....

I am so dam upset that everytime I take flowers or a flag to my husband some low life takes them. I had left him a personal flag of ours and it's was there since Tuesday I have not been here since Tuesday today is Friday I'm here and someone stole it. I don't know if it was taken when the Boy Scouts or whoever it was that came to collect the flags that they put out for Memorial Day! they also took the flag but if they did I would appreciate it if they would put it back. I know I can't prove it was them I can't prove who's doing this. this isn't the first time that this gets done to my husband and I don't understand why just him! here I thought I was putting him in a safe respectful Cemetery but it doesn't seem like that's the case. there's got to be a way that someone can monitor this things happening.

My father and mother are both buried there. And I'm usually happy to go visit them but I'm a little upset that this is Mother's day weekend and i purchased flowers for her and went over to place them at the headstone and there was about 10 sprinklers pointing all directions so it made it difficult to put the flowers there. And not only that but the flowers will be picked up May 11th-13th. So with that being said, dont they realize that lots of people will be visiting the cemetery for Mother's day. Why would they be running the sprinklers at this time. I had to dodge the one on the right and make sure I didn't get wet by the one on the left. That's craziness. And then of course all that and the flowers will be thrown in 2 days. No bueno.

This military cemetery on base is absolutely beautiful. They put the flag at 1/2 staff from 9 am to 3 pm to honor any veteran that dies that day, regardless if retired or active duty. I watched with great honor and respect while the soldier was raising it back up at 3 pm. The cemetery has grown so much in the past 26 years my dad has been buried there that it is almost full. What an honor and privilege to be standing surrounded by all these brave men and women that protected our great nation. May God bless their living family members always as the rest in eternal peace. I salute each one of them!

I had no idea what to expect as I had bever attended a military burial service and I was alone. The resting place for loved one's is immaculately presented. So very well maintained and appealing. I was taken care of greatly from the time I arrived to the completion of the service. I am so sorry ai do not remember everyone's name that stood with me and that presented me with the flag and those that played the trumpet and to those that fired the shots and of course the young lady that made it all come together on April 29, 2022 for Thomas Hardin Jr. So many thanks. I will never forget.

I Have made 2 trips a year minimum since 1988. Its changed, most things better. I do recommend you explore the facilities, from the main entrance that has many stories of conception to the vast property. Many cold days I've walked the grounds thinking of all the untold stories. Be respectful, drive slow and pull over. Others are feeling your same emotions today, and many are visitors without knowing protocols. This is the last stop in a life full of miracles, love, hate, and service some forced some volunteered.

I come here often to relax! I find this place so serene and peaceful! My late husband is laid to rest here and I also bring our daughter! Most of the time it’s just me. The entire place is as stirring and beautiful! It is open 24 hours I believe! From his service through and through ? The entire staff was attentive and compassionate!! The entire ceremony was beautiful. I’ll never forget the soldier that handed me the flag that day! Rest now, my love ! Until we meet again

It very upsetting to get a call from my mom who was visiting my dad for valentines for their 1st valentines without each other and workers telling her she needs to move her truck , How do you expect anyone to visit their loved ones when workers are parked every worker and trackers taking up most of the streets .. Workers should park any personal vehicle's and work truck at a designated area in the back where their are no stones and WALK to where they need to go !!!!

  • Hannah Rice

I am utterly disgusted at how you guys bury people. My grandma was just buried here and they didn’t even wait for us to watch her go down. Even though I am not supposed to go on the grass I went and yelled at the workers to please wait so my grandpa can see his wife of 63 years buried but they paid no mind. It’s like they just threw her in there. That is disgusting and disrespectful. I wish I could give you no stars. Do better let people say goodbye. Disgusting.

  • LouAnn Presas

Ft Sam national cemetery is a quiet and serene place that honors our military members and family members. Funerals are always solemn events and it's hard to say goodbye to those we love but being here eases that sadness because when you look out across the fields and see the hundreds of white markers you feel like you're not alone, that you share a common experience with so many others whose loved one served his or her country.

  • DIANA CRABTREE

It is a lovely cemetery. My dad my sister my mom and my husband are all buried there. The services have been really nice the people are sweet and helpful. I just went recently to go drop off some flowers for my loved ones and needed to use their facilities. Well they're back to their porta potties. Don't understand why they've resorted back to their porta potties after constructing the new buildings. This is my only complaint.

  • Jay Tavor

Came to visit my father-in-law on his B-day. The land near him is being worked on. (Clearing the woods.) The cemetery is in great shape. Very nice. You know, respect for the fallen. [I know we had our difference, but I still miss you. No more pain. Enjoy the other side. We all miss you.] I would like to say to the care takers, "thank you for giving this fallen soldier a beautiful place to rest."

  • Carl Warych

I was deeply saddened to see the shape of the cemetery on my last visit to my fathers grave. Numerous headstones were all chipped up from obvious lawn equipment and the grass and landscaping looked in bad shape. If the golf course next door can look so well then why can't they provide that kind of annetion to the cemetery? Our men and women deserve better

  • Herleen Pickrom

My father Bernard Albert Willis Sr Is the best father ever and all the military soldier's who served our country. I am so proud of all of you. You are the best and our hero's.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • Michael Hansen

We buried my father in law at Fort Sam Houston. He was a Navy veteran and the service was absolutely fantastic. The service director and service men were top notch and respectful. The ceremony was honoring and emotional. In addition the cemetery is beautiful and well kept! Great place for my father in laws final resting place.

  • Esmeralda Williams

Often visit to meditate, get inspired for my poem writing while sometimes sketching and taking pictures of the beauty seen in this place. Enjoying a lunch on a bench.. Upon occasion just stopping in to pay respects to random people where my inner heart tells me to leave a card for a person's family member. Respectfully, Amen.

I just went to take Flowers to my Grandparents. I would always go with my Dad and he would tell me one day I'm going to be taking him flowers too Now I'm doing his routine but without him . Well glad they had put Christmas Decorations for the Soldiers who don't got any family or just hasn't been able to make it …

  • Isa A

I was rudely and unacceptably harassed by some guy concerning my service animal it was totally unacceptable he was very unprofessional and so is his supervisor I didn't get their names but the next time I go I surely will I was devastated mainly because I was interrupted so rudely while visiting my parents!!!!!

  • Jimmy Popham

It's been at least two years since I've been able to get back to Fort Sam to see my father I couldn't find him and one of the gentleman working at Fort Sam help me locate him and the gentleman even took a picture for me I thank you for Sam Houston you have good and very humble employees .

  • Wayne Vermillion

I think Fort Sam is a beautiful Cemetery and I will be there one day. I only wish the markers all had the inscriptions in black so they could be seen better. My Wifes marker can hardly be read. I notice a lot of them are black and are easy to read. Other than this it is a great Cemetery

  • Loves Dogs

Very nice gentlemen to give directions. BEAUTIFUL service in the pavilion. Only one entrance & exit which makes it a bit more congested. Immediately buried my grandmother (grandfather passed away 24 years ago). Everyone I spoke to said it was an honor to serve at the cemetery.

  • Robert Frase

Just buried my mother today next to my father who passed years ago. Mr. Meeks and everyone there was so professional and caring. You thanked me for my mom's service. We thank you as well for all you did for us here today. Thanks to the volunteers and to the U.S. Navy.

  • H P

Very well maintained and organized. Rules for the cemetery are clearly posted. Fresh flower vases and water are provided at select locations throughout the cemetery. On certain holidays there is a U.S. on every single headstone. It is a sight to behold.

  • Samantha Hamilton

I'd give it no stars if I had the option. Sunday is Father's day. The cemetery is CLOSED. Of all the days to be closed knowing how many fathers are there, it is unacceptable. Keeping me from my Father is unacceptable. I plan to move him asap.

  • william cotter

Was there on Memorial Day. Must have been the first time they celebrated it. No parking. Went in the main gate and directed out a gate. Spent a hour driving to exit. Hopefully with Memorial Day being a National holiday you can prepare for it.

  • Abyss 1919

Beautiful place of respect. Clean and well kept. 4 stars cause of the parking and rules for what items are allowed; those rules are too strict.

  • The Day of QuickSilver

I can't believe they place Christmas wreaths every year on each grave. Such a waste of tax payer money and more importantly a waste of trees.
