Awful school.. some good teachers, but the majority of them are just bullies who treat the kids like prisoners instead of students. My son was banned from the library for life, guess what for? Because the last time he was in there, when he got up to leave for next lesson, he never pushed the seat back under the table - picky? i think so. TODAY .. the kids could been blown to smithereens with this bomb scare, yet all the teachers have done, is talk to my kids like cr@p again .... one of my sons waits outside for his brother so they can walk out together.. he was standing in his usual spot tonight when some bully of a teacher demanded he 'MOVE NOW' .. who does this teacher think he is? These are peoples children... i wish he'd try talking to me like that! My son , after waiting in the same spot for the last 2 and a half years, refused to move, so the teacher demanded his planner .. he also refused that, again, because he did nothing wrong... When his brother came out, this teacher told him to give him my other sons name or he'd be in trouble as well . It's not like he was keying cars, or trying to break in to them, he was simply STANDING there, waiting, on MY instructions. This was after 3:20pm, so that bully of a teacher should have been on his way home as his working day is over by then. Parents get ignored when we email to complain, If we go in to reception to report something, the secretary just sits and smirks at you .. i hate that school, i never wanted my kids going there, but according to the big wigs, its the closest school to where we live.. no it is not, Perry Beeches is closer, you bunch of bullying know-nothings. I don't want to wish my kids lives away, but i cannot wait for the day when my youngest leaves that filthy hole of a school. The kids have no manners at all and run infront of moving cars expecting them to stop, i personally have had to stop 2 fights outside the shops because the teachers stand in the doorways pretending to be busy doing something else, the language on the kids at home times is appalling, and the teachers have the same attitudes.. bad ones. When i went to a parents evening one time, we were all made to sit in the hall .... the floor was filthy and there was a flattened trodden on old mars bar under one of the chairs.. and nobody could have cleaned that up before us parents got there? Disgusting school, filthy, the toilets stink.. the place needs knocking down and rebuilding, with new decent teachers to take it over.. you know, teachers that talk TO the kids and not AT them like they are a piece of filth. Need i go on?

If you gain some kind of enjoyment from standing outside of locked doors for an hour while waiting for substitute teachers to possibly show up, Fortis Academy is the right choice. The police cars and ambulances often parked outside really complete the experience, and the complementary gum provided underneath each desk really is a prime example of the generosity you'll be subjected to at Fortis. The staff at Fortis are generally very good, especially those who stay for more than five weeks, and it's always a joy to see a member of staff who hasn't left the school in pursuit of a more appealing pay-check. If you expect a genuine and consistent learning experience, good luck to you. At Fortis you will go through so many different teachers and teaching styles that you'll waste most of your time there repeating topics or spending too long on one topic. The school was always very disorganized pre-pandemic and not much has changed in that regard. The school struggles with keeping staff and has to outsource jobs to substitute teachers, resulting in a mess of repeated lessons because of poor communication regarding cover work. In my experience, most of the substitute teachers aren't passionate about their jobs and don't practice what they preach (when they can be bothered to preach anything at all). It's almost a miracle that some of those people made it all the way from job applications, to interviews, to arriving in front of me and classmates just to sit there and do absolutely nothing at all for up to two hours. Meanwhile, senior staff stay busy by running around giving entire classes ultimately useless lectures, and remarkably waste even more time than I knew was humanly possible before I attended Fortis Academy. Other than that, it's a nice school. Some staff actually are passionate about their jobs, and they do practice what they preach. Hopefully this is just my experience with the school and it improves in the future because I would hate for anybody else to have to go through that disorganized, dirty, overcrowded mess of an education.

PARENT TO PARENT do not send your child there. The levels of bullying and fighting the children have to witness and be drawn into as victim is at a level I've never seen before. My child was attacked by 2 older boys whilst on school grounds. It was left in the hands of Miss Jones to investigate the matter. Days later after when she failed to investigate one of the same boys came after my child again but this time without his partner to help him out my child got the better of him in which I was called into the school for my child's behaviour. When I asked why the children who started this mess were still in school Miss Jones replied she could not find them to get statements so she could get to the bottom of it. I did not understand this as the children go to form rooms twice a day she could of found them then. May I add her attitude and tone of voice was disgusting. When I suggested ways that she could of found the children to investigate properly so that this incident did not have to occur she looked dead in my face squinted her eyes and threw the pen she had in her hands on the table. I could see she was rattled and I could sense the tension. At this point she started winding me up as she made the room intense whilst my child is sitting in the room with us and she is not giving me any answers to my questions. There was no point to the meeting so I walked out on her taking my child. I do.not condone violence but that seem to be the only way to get bullies to stop tormenting my child for a while. Let it also be known teachers stick up for teachers they cannot afford to have a bad reputation. Let it be known Miss Jones is not the only disrepectful, unprofessional incompetent individual with lack of people skills a of few of the teachers there are. You could be on the premises and teachers walk by you as though they don't see you when they should question who you are or who your looking for when you have to move from building to building to find rooms for meeting as the school Is not under one roof.

My advice from a mother of four children within this school do not send your child to fortis academy under any circumstances, The teachers are disrespectful immature and abusive and racial towards the pupils with no training on how to conduct themselves or control anything they developed personal vendettas towards children. They have teaching assistants teaching classes who are not qualified for this, they run the school like a prison ensuring pupils are regularly put in isolation or long durations of detention for minor issues without contacting parents resulting in children leaving school at late times which is a big safeguarding issue and is not appropriate. The headteacher is nasty, rude and non caring to your concerns and a good liar if you can even get to see him as your often entertained by the non caring deputy head. During the 3 years of involvement within the school my kids have been emotionally, physically and mentally abused which I have video evidence as I asked my kids to record when they feel threatened and it’s pushed under the carpet by staff which I will be taking this further. Your child will not learn within this school just develop behaviour problems, and a bad report at the end. The school itself is in bad condition not fit for children to learn in prisons are in better condition check it out for yourself. In all there is nothing good to say about this school and ofstead should shut this school down and start again for the sake of childrens education and wellbeing.

This is probably the worst school i have ever encountered in my life. Ineffectual teachers who really REALLY DO NOT CARE! They have complete indifference to any problems or difficulties your child may experience. Bullying pervades the school like a disease which they refuse to acknowledge let alone do anything about. Tried to speak to Ms Jones about the difficulties my son was experiencing but was met with an obnoxious, arrogant and dismissive attitude that only a prison officer would have justification in affecting. I asked the headteacher for a copy of the school curriculum in October 2016 I am yet to receive this. Having read the other posts about this school I can truly say that they are accurate. If you have any other choice please do not send your child here. It will be the worst mistake you ever made for your child. I have spent the entire day today desperately trying to find another school for my son. This school doesn't deserve a star but unfortunately you have to give one to post.

THE SCHOOL IS HORRIBLE!I started a few weeks ago and already hate it.u don't learn anything from the school and gums under the desk are disgusting.no cleaners and flooded toilets and I got stuck twice I the Bathroom cause of mean girls locking the front. Teachers are horrible and rude and expect children to respect them.food is disgusting and I had to pray somewhere dirty and interrupt me and my friends while praying.miss Craigg is the only nice teacher I know and I'm lucky that I have her everyday. No drinking water allowed in class.the lunch ladies give muslim people pork and it's against the religion.i hope the school shuts down as soon as possible.it doesn't deserve even a star.cameras everywhere(even toilets)my parents said I'm going to leave the school to prince Albert which is a better option than fortis

  • Sadie Haa

If I could rate this atrocious school lower than a 1 star I would! This is possibly the worst school in England! The teachers can't teach children are dropping in grades, if a concerned parent tries to contact the school it's impossible to speak to an actual human who is within the senior department. This school is over subscribed over crowded... no boundaries, rules or regulations. The head hasn't a clue what she's doing. I've been contacting the school since September 2016 and to date I've had nothing back! If this is how the school deals with concerned parents then it's far worse than appalling! I am stuck with my child in this school as I'm struggling to move him! To sum it all up.... I'd strongly advise not to send your children to this ridiculous place which is called a SCHOOL!

  • Lala Luna

They don't care about the children all they care about is the uniform. They speak to children with disrespect. Some of the teachers are rude especially one of the pe teachers. Not a good environment. Don't recommend treat everyone differently have favourites. They need to sort them self out. Toilets are not clean always short on staff always teachers leaving. They have spoiled brats which are the favs. In pe all the kids get treated different they would on talk to the sporty people and the ones that ent sporty out moan at them all the time don't go DON'T GO OR SEND UR CHILD THERE

  • Sandra

This school should be closed by Ofsted!!! My children gone throw horrible time in this school. Bullying disrespect and very low teaching. My children did not learn anything for last 8 month attending this school I’m so happy I have remove them to new school. Please parents don’t send your child hire they not get good education and they will be bullying stright away. There is not medical room if your child has any accident they call you to colect child they don’t care at all about student. I have never see somenting like that.

  • N I

I give it a 3 star because the teacers give me a good suport for my english and the teachers are very helpful (by the way franklin (yellow tie) is the best.) BUT the pupils OMG they are RUDE AND SLAP U ACROSS THE FACE + ARE RUDE BULLIE U DONT LISTEN AND MAKE IT WORST!!!!!!!!!! I WILL HOPE U GET THAT FIRST BEFORE U BRING YOUR CHILD HERE . So it has a very good point and a really bad one dont even try to put your children (child)here if it is kind and good and smart or mostly kind byeeeeeeeee

  • Akira Kurusu

breeding ground for bullying/racism, attacked 3 times with an actual weapon, neither kid was expelled and was allowed to remain in my lessons, parents of primary school kids constantly being attacked by this schools students trying to get to their car and called racist slurs, awful school, teachers bullying students, headmistress is exceptionally rude at times, wish I'd never went. Don't send your kid here/go anywhere near the school. Some teachers are ok, the majority however aren't.

  • Ibrahim

This school is the worst school in whole england. Teachers really dont care and dont teach you properly. When i first started the schools my grades were high and now in year 11 i know i made a mistake and my grades a low. If u are going to send your chlid to this school pls pls pls pls i beg u dont. This school focuses on bullying racism and teachers dont do nothing. In four years i have experienced with people being stabbed and getting rushed infornt of teachers.

  • mspoppins yes

some of the teachers are good but they are all leaving bc the school is too broke to pay them now we are left with the bad ones. most of the teachers dont rlly care about their students tbh. some of the food buss icl but most of them taste like b@tty crease. some of the teachers dont even know how to teach and some of the teachers dont know how to deal with situations eg. bullying. overall the school is ok but the food and the teachers are quite bad.

  • Libra Z

I was a bit weary about sending my daughter to the school as read all the negative comments but must admit, so glad I decided to try it for myself. My daughter has been at the school since december. Very pleased with her learning, friendly staff and senior staff are very attentive to any concerns I had with her late start and settled in very nicely. Overall do not have any complaints and happy with the school. Would highly recommend.

  • Nikola Klavina

gave us an assembly about balls so wasnt too bad ig, if your late you get executed so ig that’s not the best tbh, probably won’t get any GCSE’s but ig it doenst matter because if anyone see’s you’ve gone to Fortis you will get thrown out of the building, i’m not even going to lie i don’t even know how i am still alive, if your thinking about sending your kid here rethink all of your life choices because that is just disgraceful

  • Natz Natz

Honestly one of the worst secondary schools I have ever encountered! It's too big, with 2000 pupils! The kids run amok! It's very out of control and most (not all) of the staff are in way over their head! The school also picks and chooses what rules to stick to and which ones to bend! If I knew then what I know now, my Son would never have attended that school! Total waste of time!

  • Julian Benn

Sixth form is honestly ridiculous. My days are just plagued with free periods. Instead of having only 2 lessons in a day and the rest of my day in the library, why can't I just go home, is Fortis so understaffed that they can't rearrange a timetable to allow sixthform students to leave a little earlier?

  • Nardia Thompson

It is the worst secondary school. A very large school. They don't care about the children well being. All they care about is there grades. The teachers are not very nice. Biggest mistake sending my child there. A lot of bullying and gang culture is in that school. They accept children from anywhere.

  • T B

I called the school to enquire about a placement. The man I was transfered to by reception was rude, and barely gave me the opportunity to speak. The schools failures come as no surprise when they employ staff like that - update:this review was left when it was still great barr school/academy

  • Paula j Brooke

Worst school in Birmingham Wouldn’t recommend Had two children go here and both were bullied badly to the point I had to involve police Thank god one has left but I won’t be sending anymore of my children here Only gave it one star because I had to

  • Yvonne Mcgivern

great barr school is not good at all, when your vhild has a problem they dont sort it out they set them a c3 (detention) itys not gonna change there mind to bully, some off the teachers there are helpful but most are destressing and unfair.

  • Gareth Jaxon

Went here in the 60's, had many happy times there but was expelled due to truancy. Many regrets but life goes on. Mr Coulton was the Deputy Head. These were the days when if you did wrong you were punished.

  • Lexi Surtees

THE SCHOOL IS A DISCRACE THEY MAKE CHILDREN COME TO SCHOOL IN HOT WEATHER THEY DON'T SUPLY CUPS THEY ARE IN DET TEACHERS MOODY PE TEACHER COMOAINS ABOUT US SHE IS VERY RUDE THEY DON'T HELP PEOPLOUT HEL

  • dat boi

Full of degenerates lmao -Severe lack of memes -More focus on whether pupils shirts are untucked than the education itself -Roadmen everywhere -The year 10s just need to be executed 5/7

  • Robin Soule

Judging by the reviewers, I suspects the problem isn't with the school and teachers. Maybe pay attention in class and your written skills be existent not nonexistent like they are now.

  • dylan c

This school was the shitest school I have ever had to step foot in, dont send your child here unless your trying to abuse them. All the staff are stuck up their own ass , its unreal.
