Took my bicycle to get fixed, and a piece had to be ordered, after 1 week I went back to see if any progress and nothing, now 2 weeks later I call to follow up and they tell me that they couldn't order the piece, but nobody contacted me in regards to this. I could have been waiting forever. Very disappointing service. *Correct you phoned the evening after I had been told that you could not get the piece. I am also disappointed Brian, but yes you have clarified the situation, this review had been published before your call. I understand they do not have the piece in stock, however like I said I have been waiting without any information on the progress. I received the screenshot today correct. I still believe this could have all been dealt with better as once the piece arrives it would have been 1 month + since the order. you could have just asked me to remove the review.

Refused to fix a bike they didn’t sell. It was an extremely simple issue that would probably take 15 minutes and earn them 20+ EUR. Apparently this is a common theme with Dublin bike shops as this was the second time I hear this. They think they are Apple Store or something. I’d suggest them to focus on creating positive experiences rather than wasting space with their shop that no one visits. Edit after shop owner reply: Your point about fixing “steering issues” is not valid as you did not even try to understand what the problem was. I fixed it myself in 10 at home as it turned out to be a loosened bolt. Also, it is true that you said your shop does not repair fiido bikes but the reason you gave was: (literally quoting) “We don’t sell them here, we don’t repair them here”. Which understandably got me thinking that you don’t repair bikes you don’t sell.

Called into this bike shop today to simply ask for use of a bike pump for my front wheel. I had been here before perhaps about a year and a half ago and had really lovely whole bike service. However, today I dealt with an older man (who presumably, has been mentioned before in these reviews). His whole demeanour was off putting and extremely unfriendly. I understand I was asking to pump up my bike with their pump, but I’ve never had any issues doing this in other bike shops (they have all been happy to help). My bike was pumped for me but good customer service makes a hell of a difference. It’s such a shame that this was my experience today and I will not be going back as a result. I’ve had a much more positive experience with staff in the bike shop across the road under the bridge.

Sometimes a retail experience is so good that it is absolutely worth taking the time to write a few words about it. Brian and the team on Pearse Street were great to deal with on my recent purchase of a Schindelhauer bicycle. The purchase was not straightforward - the bike was a special edition, it took place in the teeth of Brexit and a flood at the manufacturer's offices. At each step of the way the communication was excellent and I have no doubt that if Brian had not moved quickly during the ordering process I would not be sitting on my bike today. They also excelled at the final part of the equation: setting up the bike. When I took delivery I was greeted with a bike that had been pumped, tuned, checked over and set up to the highest possible standard. I'm a delighted customer.

If I could give zero stars I would. A DISHONESTand non communicative dealer. I was in the process of buying a bike and taking it back home with me to the USA. Brian had told me that I can get the tax credit on the bike and to show the receipt at the airport. Turns out he is not even registered to be able to give the tax credit and I was not able to get this at the airport .I have since tried to communicate to him, and he does not return emails. Update - Since I have posted this they have called me back and told me that they would take care of this asap. I will update this review when this happens. Update again. - never resolved and is now past the time. Not even an apology. Why would you even consider doing business with such am inconsiderate and dishonest business.

Asked my mother to drop a wheel in for repair couldn’t be done which is totally cool with me it was bad. So I asked for set of wheels and tubes and tyres on them with cog from old wheel put into new. This came to 366€ I was busy working and I did say this was ok go ahead mam When I looked into it further I would have been able to get on line for 150€. The set that is. When wheels were received they had no fixing nuts on axles and when I got them they where wrong nuts. So after that the nuts where wrong and just to top it off the the front wheel had a puncture. Not they service I’d be looking for at 366 shame though they seem like nice lads but that’s just bad form for that money.

Over the last thirty years I have bought bikes/had work done in, by my reckoning, 21 shops. Free Wheeling is by far the best. Six months ago they did the best service on a bike I have ever had. Last week I bought a bike from them and not merely was it really good value for money, it was the best customer service I have ever had. Brian in the shop very definitely did NOT try to sell me the most expensive bike. Rather he put a huge amount of thought into what was right for me. They are genuinely expert and genuinely into engaging with customer needs. I could not recommend the shop more highly and as long as they are there I will never use another bike shop. Brilliant.

  • pierce flynn

strange customer service. i got 3 punctures in 4 days.coincidence?? i think not. the glass wasn't removed from the tyre.anyway i spoke to Conor on the phone early one morning, he was very nice and said come in later in the day and they would fix it again for free. so i called in on my lunch, conor wasn't around. i spoke to an older man with grey hair. he doubted that i had actually spoke to conor earlier in day, and tried to charge me again for another repair. he was to lazy to even call conor to see if we had spoken earlier in the day. Abysmal customer service & shoddy set up . they'l be found out eventually

  • Sab Rentzschke

Dishonest! Went there to get a new tube and tire for my bike. When I came back the mechanic put a 145 on my back wheel although it should be a 175. Now I hope you are seated: when I asked him why, he said 'You are a girl a lighter tire is better for you and I don't have anything else anyways.' I bit it as i had to go to work. On top of the most sexist message and incompetent behaviour in customer service in 2016 I figured out later that he had charged me for an expensive tire, but only gave me a cheap version, which I figured later when I changed the tube myself!

  • Cillian L

Incompetent, dishonest and over priced! Replaced a de-railer (and chain that didn't need to be replaced) Over charged for the pleasure, I returned the following week, to check wheels and to tell them the the de-railer was not aligned properly. Came back later that day they said the only problem with the de-railer was cheap and nasty they recommended I change it!!! (yes the one they fit and charged €80) They said they realigned it. they didn't and it slipping from the cog on me at a busy junction nearly cost me dearly. I would avoid these guys.

  • Ronan Fahey

I've been going to these guys on and off for a few years now, and with good cause. I've been to other places for bike stuff, but these have always been the nicest and friendliest. I always price check everything before or after I go to a bike shop, and these are the only ones not to have overcharged me. Any repairs I've had done have always been timely and to a high standard. Would highly recommend these guys to anyone. The owner has always been a true gentleman and seems to genuinely want to encourage and help cyclists, not scam them.

  • Lucía Gutiérrez

I rang this bike store to say I wouldn't be able to collect my bike for a couple of days and the owner went crazy saying that it wasn't ok. He was very rude and then when I went to collect my bike he charged me more than what he had quoted originally (he actually said they would contact me if they had to charge me more for additional work but they never did and I had to pay for something I didn't want). I had the worst experience and I wouldn’t recommend their services to anyone.

  • Suzie Kenny

I found these guys extremely helpful. I have attempted to buy a bike before but unfortunately a lot of places don't stock small sizes or tend to run out of them quickly. Freewheeling didn't have the bike in the size I needed, so they called around all the shops in Dublin and eventually sourced a bike for me from a place in the UK. Thanks Brian for going out of your way to help me. Delighted with my bike and the customer service :)

  • geoff poddy

I needed a used cardboard bike box the ship my bike back to Australia. One bike shop offered me a box for 15 euros or would box it for me for 45e. The crew at Free Wheeling didn't have any empty boxes so the manager asked his mechanic to assemble a new bike just so I could have the empty box for FREE! They couldn't do enough to help. Brian was an excellent customer service person. Highly recommended.

  • Cian McKenna

I’ve used these guys for years and always had a great experience. I cycle everywhere so it means a lot that I can get my bike back the same or next day. Its also nice to have a shop that caters to city cyclists as well as sportspeople- they stock dutch style bikes and some lovely brands like Schindelhaur, and Kryptonite locks, messenger bags etc. Always friendly service and attentive too.

  • Connor

Brian and his team are excellent. They're knowledgeable, genuine and you can feel their passion for biking the moment you go into the shop. Brian spent a lot of time with me answering questions and helping me find the right bicycle that would work best for me. I can't recommend them enough. Brilliant experience. As long as I'm living in Dublin, Free Wheeling will be the only place I go.

  • Ece

Excellent bike shop! They have a great range of products, they really know pros and cons of all options, and they are quite transparent about everything (even if it means downselling). Brian was absolutely amazing in following up and keeping us informed about the status of our orders even in this crazy period with the lockdown causing huge backlogs. Would highly recommend!

  • Chris Hokamp

These guys are not friendly -- even to repeat customers like me. I ride at least 100km/week, most of which is commuting to/from work, and I need a local shop for maintenance, repairs, and advice, but every time I go into this place, I don't have a good experience. It doesn't seem like they deal with many actual cyclists, just people who want to buy gear and never use it.

  • Paul Jakma

Great little local bike shop. Focused mostly on bike sales and servicing/repairs. They did a great job on a complete rebuild of my bike after a crash broke the frame. And very handy for the little repairs that sometimes need doing, servicing, and consumables (brake pads, chains, etc.). They can sometimes be a bit busy, but that's often the case with good bike shops.

  • iosif adrian Aioanei

Extremely friendly and professional staff up there, specialy Pedro! He fixed my Giant racer from scratch. Now it’s better then was brand new. Lots of attention and advice given. Very good price and discount in the end for so much work done. Highly recommended and definitely I ll be back for my next service ☺️ ‍♂️ …

  • Gundars L

A really great team working here, knowledgeable and very fair. Did a great and quick job of servicing my bike, specially given how busy they were this week, always gave me the time of the day when I stopped by, and didn't even attempt to rip me off, very fair pricing. Will gladly continue to use them for any service my bike needs, and hope you will too!

  • Saar Byrne

Excellent and quick service. I felt like the recommendations were authentic and the staff genuine. I was willing to buy new tyres but he told me the tyres I had were good and that I should try them for a week or two longer to see how they fare. I'll be going back they clearly take care of their customers and not out to get every penny possible.

  • Rairan Menegotto

They are so good, like I brought my bike over there in the morning to do a big service expecting to get the bike back 2 days later or something like that. They had it done by the end of the same day even though a lot of work had to be done. Well done guys, I'm super happy with the work. I recommend for everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gabriela Alkmim Ferreira

I really recomend this bike shop. I bought my bicycle with them and they were very nice and friendly with me. Even when I go there to service my bicycle or buy some stuff they still the same mood with me. The more inportant is the quality of the service that is great. Well done guys I really appreciate your that.

  • Tony O'Callaghan

Friendly professional staff. I have ordered a bike through the Bike2Work scheme. Brian has been very helpful in every step of the process - from choosing a bike that suits my needs to correct sizing to keeping me updated on the ordering process. Minimum hassle and feel like I'm being well looked after.

  • Thomas Haugh

I dropped my son’s E-bike in on short notice for important repairs. Despite being low on staff that day, the gentleman who was working made sure I got it back on the same day, and gave me some good advice about the bike. A very good bike shop and they seem to have a nice selection of new bikes too.

  • David Hansell

Absolutely brilliant, flawless experience buying a new Liv bike for my wife. The staff knows their bikes top to bottom, super courteous, no BS, no upselling, nothing but really friendly and professional folks with great inventory at a reasonable price. Don't hesitate to drop in if you need a bike!

  • Hari Thiruppathi

A convenient neighborhood store. But I feel the markups are extremely high for accessories. I found almost a huge price difference between here and online on the RRP. I even found bikes with published price higher than the RRP set out by the manufacturer. Haven't tried them for service yet.

  • Isabelle Lim

I went in with a really old bike (which another bike mechanic had refused to fix), and I was a little shy and worried I would be turned away again but Pedro was really helpful and said he would do his best to fix all the problems. Reasonable pricing, fast service and a great mechanic

  • Shane Traynor

Brilliant experience dealing with Free Wheeling, from somebody who was not a bike enthusiast, they guided me through the options and I ended up with a bike that is the best bike I have ever been on. Brian is a gent and was a pleasure to deal with throughout. Will definitely be back.

  • elliott conway

WARNING - Avoid avoid avoid !!!! the customer service from the manager/owner in his late 50's ( not Connor) was Terrible. From reading the other reviews they all make sense now. The prices aren't great either. There is a much better shop straight across the road under the bridge.

  • Hendrik van der Berg

I've been taking my road bike for a service here for the past couple of years. Great quality mechanics, they do a thorough check of the bicycle and I always get my bicycle back in tip top shape to get back on the read. I can see that the mechanics take pride in their job.

  • Mark Regan

Poor workmanship by mechanic in this shop. After a brake service here my front brake and surrounding bracket snapped from my bike frame the very next day causing me to fall. Got it repaired by them the next day to make up for it but the mechanics were far from apologetic.

  • Kalle Korpela

Stellar service. I own a gravel bike which was making an odd tinny sound from the bottom bracket which was missed at a previous service at another different shop. To locate the sound, Vito cycled behind me to troubleshoot the issue. Job done and a very happy customer.

  • Kirsty Firman

Stay away from this place! The owners will sell you a faulty bike which will inevitably break. When you get it fixed they will quote you one thing but will then charge you hundreds of euros extra... total con, go somewhere else! Staff are also very rude.

  • Geoff Natin

Had a host of problems with my bike. Brought it into the guys and they were super friendly, kind and helpful. In less than five minutes, they told me why I was having the problems, taught me how to fix them, and fixed them all. Top tier service.

  • Matthew Moore

Friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. I was looking for a very specific rack-mounted seat and found it here. Unfortunately, it didn't suit and they showed great understanding. I look forward to doing more business with them in the future.

  • Katy Teixeira

I bought a good second hand bike, but found it very difficult to pedal. I really thought pedaling was not for me. After my bike went through the review I am in love with it and I really use the bike for go everywhere. Service of great quality.

  • JaviG

Great staff working there! They helped me to choose the bike that really met my needs. They services provided were top notch. Highly recommendable if you are planning to buy a bike, need mechanical support or just need bike accessories.

  • Margie

Great experience! Lovely guys working here. Helpful & knowledgeable assistance provided in helping me choose a bike. Went for the Schindelhauer brand, Viktor model, single speed, what a fantastic bike, rides so well. Happy customer :)

  • mathijs vH

Very friendly and professional staff. They have done a good service on my gravel bike (which I did not buy at their shop) and I have visited their shop multiple times. They were always very helpful and I am happy with their service.

  • Danny McCabe

Busy place so you may have to wait longer than other shops. However, these guys are honest with pricing and what you actually need. No greedy up-selling or aggressive sales. Friendly mechanics who seem passionate about their job.

  • Jonathan Sammons

My wife and I got our bikes from Free Wheeling recently and Brian, the owner, made sure that we were well looked after and got exactly what we needed. I would highly recommend Free Wheeling for anyone with cycling needs!

  • Debashis Rout

Great place for bikes and bike accessories . The people in the shop are genuinely nice, and they do not overcharge. They never tried t oversell, and are very helpful. A great shop to visit again for the cycling needs.

  • Raymond Magourty (Raymondo)

Necessity brought me here - I usually use Bumble bee cycles in Dublin 8, which is excellent. Both the mechanic and the gent operating the till were unfriendly and borderline unpleasant. Won't be using them again.

  • James Carroll

I really don't understand some of the negative comments below... I found these guys to be professional, friendly and very good value. They've got me back on the road ASAP on many occasions. Highly recommend

  • Rachel Loughrey

This shop is INCREDIBLE. The most wonderful, friendly and kind staff and the vibe of the place is gorgeous. If you have a bike that needs to be fixed or are feeling the urge to buy one THIS IS THE PLACE. x

Myself and my girlfriend found this shop a while back, we have both bought bikes here. Bikes are great, shop is great, service is great. We found the staff to be very friendly and extremely helpful.

  • Jeff Greene

Excellent experience. Nothing hugely complicated (new brake cable, brake pads, and chain shortening) but all done without fuss that same day for decent price. William was excellent to deal with.

  • Maximilian Scheuss

Owner with white hair doesn't like his job and makes you get it! Don't go if Connor (the other guy) is not there for you. Mechanic is great.
