I love this place. I haven't been in 12 years and coming back to Albuquerque it felt like home stepping in here again. I had a long drive ahead so I didn't want to overstuff myself so I got a half order of chicken enchiladas with red sauce. It came with rice and a fresh tortilla. What can I say the fresh tortillas are my favorite, and the red chile is very flavorful. The only downside of this place is the parking. If you park on the side or front you have to pay for a meter and it's usually hard to get a spot. If you go down the alley, for about the next 5 or 6 buildings on both sides of the alley there are 45 minutes free parking spots or $5 for every extra hour. I got lucky to eventually find a spot but nearly gave up. Glad I didn't give up though cause this place is so darn good. And for my enchilada and drink spent only a little over $9 which is not bad.

We really enjoyed our time here. Frontier is a very busy place, with good food at unbeatable prices. We saw several people playing chess and checkers (like, seriously playing! Taking notes of the moves and all… how neat is that?) I had half order of chicken nachos, which tasted like homemade food, as well as my friend’s burrito. She also ordered a sweet roll with topping (we believe is cinnamon butter), which was fresh and warm. It’s a very simple, familiar place to have a decent meal for an affordable price. Nothing fancy nor pretentious, Frontier is where locals come at all times and 45 years of history must have a good reason. Definitely returning. P.s. “Then, why 4 stars only?” You might be wondering… well, when I give 5 starts in a review, it is because the place is simply out of this world, in my opinion. I’m sure many of you may give it the 5 stars, which is absolutely fine, but I am a bit tough about ratings. Anyways, don’t miss the chance to stop by Frontier.

Edit So I've come here maybe once a week for half a year. It's breakfast is fine. I like the huevos rancheros with chopped chille. The people in and out side are a colorful bunch. Lol. But I guess there isn't much you can do about that. Here's where I think you find a lot of value. The people waking around maintaining the cleanliness are super nice. The people at the counter can be in a rush but they're not mean or jerks. They're just anxious to get the line down. The green chille stew is inexpensive and a half gallon fed 3 hungry people at my house. Gets the biggest part of this Edit. I ordered a burger that was one of the best I've ever had. The meal was 17 bucks but boy was that burger out of this world. It's not on the menu, it was recommended in a NM foodie group. It's cakes the Duke city and I added the picture. The man who made it (Jorge) was so kind and amazing. This made me change this review in so many ways. Yes you should come. Just know some things are worth the hype.

After a google search as we were passing through Albuquerque, we saw good reviews for Frontier. Parking was a bit of a challenge but found a spot just a few minutes walk from the restaurant. Upon entering it was a little confusing to figure out what the process of ordering was. Once we figured it out, the wait was very short and was greeted very warmly by the cashier. I told her it was our first time there and she was super helpful in explaining the menu items and how we pick up our food. Once we ordered it was a bit overwhelming trying to find a table in the multiple rooms to choose from. Once we were seated we only waited a couple minutes before our food was ready and our number was called. We both ordered the Mexican combo, one with red sauce and one with green sauce. The food was fresh and tasted pretty good and price was very reasonable. We would probably consider coming back when/if we’re in Albuquerque again.

This is an amazing restaurant and truly a staple of Albuquerque. The food is amazing, and cheap for the level of taste. I recommend always adding fries to your order as they are crispy to perfection. The cinnamon roles are a classic dessert option. Even if you are full, getting them to go is a blessing to the home they are brought to. I love the number order system. Essentially, you go to your table and watch a little screen that will display your number once your order is ready. This is efficient and removes the tip system. This is a sit down restaurant but you serve yourself. It’s wonderful! If you are new to Albuquerque, check out this restaurant, if you’re friend is new to Albuquerque, check out this restaurant!

This place is so cool! It has a wonderful cheery and fun atmosphere! It is VERY busy and their system is able to hold up to how busy it is because we didn’t have to wait long at all! It was easy to find seating for our large group. There are many options for food tastes and something for everyone. The food is quickly made and in large batches so it’s expected that the plating and quality is a average but the taste is good! It is walk up counter ordering and pick up your order when it’s ready. The place is huge so there is a ton of seating with a nice mix of booths and tables. The cashiers were friendly and handled all of our questions with a smile and also provided wonderful recommendations. If you are looking for a quick, sit down dinner in a hopping atmosphere for your family definitely stop here for a great bite of food!

This is a pretty iconic Albuquerque eatery from what I’m told. It has a unique atmosphere and the building has a lot of character and history. The food is solid. I want to come back and try some more items. Loved the green Chile stew. The hard taco uses a shell similar to Taco Bell, but better. If the ground beef tacos at Taco Bell or as good as they are at frontier, people would be lining up out the window all day long to get them. I want to come back and try the chicken taco. Huevos rancheros were solid. I had them with green and red chili, one each, Christmas style. The green chili cheeseburger was also good and the fries were crispy and delicious. Green Chile stew ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Green Chile cheeseburger ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ground beef hard taco ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Huevos Rancheros ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A classic ABQ greasy-spoon counter-serve staple. There’s just the one location on Central. The atmosphere is Western-meets-60s-diner. The same owners own Golden Pride. When your order number is shown on the screens throughout the restaurant, you go and pick it up and then visit the condiment and drink stations. The fries were nice and crispy. I ordered the Bonanza burger, which has double meat, American cheese, 1000 island dressing, tomato, pickles, onions & lettuce. I ordered mine with extra dressing. The burger was good. I wish it had come on a plate in addition to the paper burger holder. Overall, if you’re in the mood for a dive near the university campus, it’ll fit the bill.

This spot is truly special to me, a must-visit every time I'm in Albuquerque. The orange juice is a favorite, and it's a perfect spot to reunite with old friends over amazing food. The unique blend of student culture and old-timers adds to its charm. Despite being busy, it's a must-try, boasting a rich history and longstanding presence—a reliable choice any time of day. Parking might be a hassle, but don't let that deter you; free parking is available on weekends. Keep a close eye on the strictly enforced parking meters.

Tasty food that was ready quickly. Fun, relaxed vibe with tons of tables. Seems like they get pretty busy but they've got a good system down. We were there around 9:30pm when it wasn't busy and our order was ready in under 5 minutes. Order at a counter and they have order number screens around the restaurant so you know when yours is ready. Kind of a sit-down style meal with fast good speed and ordering. Lots of locals and very inexpensive

We were in town with family and my Uncle raved about us never going to Frontier for lunch, so we took a whole group of people down to check it out. The line from the order window looked long, but they are QUICK. We ordered some enchiladas, tacos for kids, and I got the Green Chili Stew. After we ordered, we sat down to catch up and before we knew it, the food was delivered. This place is huge inside with enough tables for groups. Right across the street from UNM, which is a perfect food for an affordable price. The enchiladas are some good diner enchiladas and the green chili stew is highly recommended. Enjoyed our meal and then went to check out the UNM campus.

I was in town for a week long conference. As a team's building event we went on a hot air balloon ride and upon our return, this restaurant was recommended by the company staff. It is a dinner style restaurant. Very busy but not overwhelming. the staff was so kind and courteous. we were eight in our group. We were at a table within 10 minutes of our arrival. quickly the waitress took our orders and provided some recommendations too. The menu is extensive, with a diverse list of items that could meet the cravings of most customers. for someone with food allergies, sensitivities or vegan, I will suggest checking the menu online before going. Otherwise, please stop by and enjoy a sense of community while eating delicious food at this restaurant. Highly recommended.

Literally flew back from PA just to have a Frontier Burrito! I got it to go because I knew I wouldn't finish it right away haha I lived in Abq my whole life and recently moved away, the food just doesn't compare anywhere else. If you're looking for comfort food this is your spot. Don't forget to grab a Frontier roll for the road!

Frontier burrito 8.6/10 Posole 6.0/10 Green Chile stew 9.2/10 Frontier is staple of Central ave in Knob hill. The restaurant is setup as an order at the counter, pick up when your ticket is called establishment. The frontier burrito is very good, but be prepared to used a knife and fork as it is smothered in a light cheese and pepper sauce. The posole is somewhat bland, but I think that's about the best you can make it as I've tried and failed several times at home. The green chile stew alone is worth stopping in and sitting down. Overall one of the two best new Mexican restaunts I've been to in the city of Albuquerque.

Fries lightly salted and very crisp but tender-just perfect. Hamburger dressed with mayo, not my favorite, but still tasty ( I'll request mustard when ordering henceforth). House- made tortillas to die for; took a dozen home for later ! Love the soda dispensers--practically every soft drink you could want. Great place for a post-performance repast. Need to patronize more often.

It was packed at 11am when we came for breakfast rush and the line was 20+ min long. Absolutely worth it. Great food made fast and cozy hometown ambiance. Really liked the eclectic decor and artwork that helps give Frontier an iconic and unique local character. The restaurant was much larger than I expected, felt like they just kept expanding into the buildings next door. So many spaces for seating that were full of people. Buttery cinnamon rolls were to die for. If I was a local I could see myself coming here all the time.

We were only in town for three days and yet we ate here every day. The breakfast burrito with sausage is something I will be craving for months. The sweet roll is definitely something I can understand as being the staple, and if you love buttery rich sweets then you have to try it. We had it at lunch time but I wouldn’t want to have it for breakfast bc it’s a little rich. It is however DELICIOUS. The pancakes are also delicious. And they have fresh squeezed orange juice you should definitely get. Long story short, there’s a reason this place has been here for decades. Go try it while you’re in town.

Not much of one to eat out at restaurants. Needed a quick bite for the morning and this place hit the spot. You pay upfront. Cashier was a bit sassy but did the job. As a Mexican, I approve of the food they serve. If you aren’t from here, I recommend you give it a try for a New Mexican experience. That breakfast burrito was nice. Unfortunately, someone reeked of body odor the time I came in but I didn’t let it bother me too much. Overall, not bad. I could see why this place is a regular for folks who live in the neighborhood.

This is a large and apparently very popular restaurant in Albuquerque just across the street from the University of New Mexico. It was recommended to us by our grandson who goes to school there. It is set up like fast food restaurant where you order at the front and wait until your number is called. We had to wait quite a while for our order and then had to go get it. To me, I had a cheese burger and fries, it was quite ordinary. Would have been just as happy with a true fast food burger.

After reading all the positive reviews, my husband and I went here last night with high hopes. Sadly, we were disappointed. It could be that we are used to authentic Mexican food. We have lived all our lives in deep South Texas close to the Mexican border. With that said, the food at Frontier lacked the flavor I was expecting. It was average to us. Sorry. I did like the flour tortilla though. The people working there are friendly too and there’s plenty of seating. Parking is a little tough, but we found a spot right away.

Might just be because I was starving, but the nachos were deceptively a little spicy and excellent. They looked sketchy at first, with cherry tomatoes and lettuce on top, but some complex tasting, crunchy and crispy nachos were hiding underneath. Also really enjoyed the fancy, self-serve coke machines. Did not enjoy security walking around with visible guns, but maybe that’s part of being on campus. The place was filled with college students.

We were told that The Frontier Restaurant is a must-see if we were in Albuquerque, so we had to stop. Walking in feels nostalgic with the diner tables and layout. The walls are filled with hints of the past. The food was prepared as if grandma just cooked you a meal that warms you inside and out. An Albuquerque institution. One of the best pozoles I have ever had. The broth had Amazing thickness and flavor, more like a sauce. Corn and pork are soft and melt in your mouth. Flour tortilla excellent, comes with honey. House salsa is incredible with great bite. Only issue is with the size of the large pozole. If this is the large I sure don't want to see the small.

This place gets busy and I can see why. The frontier burrito was fantastic and they have fresh salsa that pairs well with it. The cinnamon rolls are mentioned throughout these reviews for good reason. I would solely return for the cinnamon rolls. Let’s not leave out the ambiance. Huge establishment with all sorts of art spread throughout that brings life to this great restaurant in this great city. Shout out to ABQ.

Probably the worst Mexican food we had in NM. We went by the number of reviews and went here for dinner before our flight. It is self service and ordering at counter. We got the taco enchilada combo. Chicken was not seasoned at all. Huge portions but not much flavor. Probably popular with students and people who want big portions. Dessert we could not even eat. Save your time and go somewhere else.

I can see why this place is so popular— the food was to-die-for and the Southwestern inspired interior was really cool! Prices were very reasonable for breakfast and service was quick. Huevos rancheros and sweet roll were delicious. The restaurant is huge so lots and lots of space to sit. An absolute must-stop if in Albuquerque!

It’s so casual and the environment is awesome as you can see beautiful paintings and artifacts. Food is delicious, served quick and price is fair. I had a burrito and I was full for rest of the day. Don’t forget to add freshly squeezed orange juice to your order. I will definitely visit again if I happen to travel around ABQ.

It was ok. A lot of homeless were in and out. One homeless lady even filled up a container with hot salsa, and a man approached our table for a drink. Need better control of that.

The Frontier Restaurant was All That and More. Fresh Tortillas, Green Chili Soup...was Awesome...I wish I had gotten more.. very filling and Healthy. The Wednesday Special is a Must. Even the Fries were Good. I Will Go Back. The Souvenir Shirt "Sweet Buns" was a Hit for my son..he wore it the next day. More

Still great after all these years. The cinnamon roll is still wonderful but us old farts remember it was better before microwaves.

Such a fun and HUGE place. Went around 11am on a Sunday. About a four minute wait in line to order at the counter. Huge portions. Good New Mexico style food. We had chicken enchiladas, Frontier burrito and chips and salsa. Both meals also came with warm tortillas and honey. Made for a tasty dessert.

Walk up counter service Mexican food joint. Food is good. There is a ton of southwest art work. Dominated by John Wayne. Plenty of seating to handle even large crowds.

This was my 2nd new Mexican restaurant and I was disappointed with the first I ate at. However, this place definitely redeemed New Mexican food. Specifically, I really enjoyed the salsa and home made tortilla shells. Taco salad was great and the cinnamon bun was a delicious dessert. More

Grabbed dinner here while I was driving through Albuquerque, and it was amazing! The green chili was delicious, and their flour Tortillas are the best I've ever had. I'll be buying bulk tortillas on my way back through Albuquerque, they were so good. And the service was phenomenal! More

Y'all don't need my review, but... we planned our overnight stop on a long road trip to coincide with ABQ just so we could wake up& get breakfast here. The OJ, the warm lagniappe chili pots, the carne adovada with eggs, all amazing!! Oh, and those tortillas are the best. More

We’ve been going to Frontier restaurant for over 20 years. We used to order breakfast burritos on a regular basis however within the past year or so the green chili has gone from delicious and spicy hot to mild as a bell pepper. It’s really

I have to say that this place was so good. I had never had a Christmas Enchilada and it was amazing! The sweet roll is unlike any roll I have had. It looks like a cinnamon roll but it is definitely not! THE ABSOLUTE BEST THING WAS THE SUPER

We had takeout. You have to call because there's no way to order online yet. The food was good and we were full and satisfied. It's not expensive and you can see the prices if you download the PDF off of their website. The only weird thing

The quintessential New Mexico experience. While waiting for my food at around 10 pm, a woman walked past carrying a tray of pancakes on one arm, a load of green Chile tacos on the other. And that about sums it up. Denny’s meets the

By far the best enchiladas we had. There are honestly too many places in NM to try though and I really think you can't go wrong. If you don't like spicy food, this isn't for you.

Nice local style restaurant. Had the Mexican combo for $10.45. I asked for no beans and double rice. Got the beans and rice, so low score on service. Cinnamon roll was to big to finish. More
