Frothy Monkey is a hard coffee shop to review. On one hand, it’s a fantastic establishment. The food and coffee are delicious and unique. The atmosphere is good. Outdoor seating is shaded and relaxing. On the other hand, it can get quite expensive and busy which results in longer wait times. Don’t let that deter you from going though, the cons don’t outweigh the pros. Pros: high-quality and unique coffee, and food options, Cons: can be expensive and during busy hours have longer wait times

What a SOLID experience at this 12South location of Frothy Monkey. I had equally pleasant experience at their downtown location as well — but I have to say this spot at 12South is way cozier in a house setting during Winter season. I ordered Kunefe Latte which was terrific 5/5 and Basil Pesto Chicken 4/5 plating was 5/5 just like you’ll receive at a fine diner, the only suggestion I have to the recipe designer is that squash doesn’t go that well with grilled chicken. Broccoli or Zucchini or Brussel Sprouts would have paired well. The execution of the recipe was bang on. The sprouts, kale and green onions complimented the chicken so well. They do have rear parking lot that we didn’t know about, but we found street parking right opposite their location. And I have to add, their staff is the one of the friendliest and nicest; and heavily focused on your experience and convenience. Nick was awesome! Mighty impressed with them and will definitely keep coming here!

Brunch was quite the experience for a number of different reasons, but overall the food and coffee were exceptional and I will be returning for more. Note: this location does not do pour over coffees, only drip. Not being from Nashville, I was stunned by the amount of people hanging out on 12South. It's super busy and a bit of a pain to navigate (especially brunch on a Saturday). Getting in the door was a struggle as the flow isn't really optimized for the traffic, but be patient. Also, there is a parking lot on the back! Just turn on the next street after it. The menu is like southern comfort and it was all delicious. Perfect biscuits with bacon that tasted like it was smoked in the woods that morning. There is a huge selection of creative lattes and flavors that encourage you to come back to try them all. All in all, pick a good time and day, maybe a different location, but you won't be disappointed.

We came here for coffee and breakfast on our way out of town and I wish we would have found this place sooner! Their coffee was amazing, I got the Iced turtle latte and my boyfriend got the ice mocha monkey and they were by far two of the best lattes we’ve ever had. For breakfast he got the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel and that was to die for. The bagel had a perfect crunch on the outside but soft on the inside, with just enough EBTB seasoning. I got avo toast and wow, I had never had avo toast with broccoli, squash, and radishes before but I definitely will again! (I dropped my box while getting into the car so the first picture is not the best but wanted to show how much food you actually got). Definitely will be coming back here!

We were on the hunt for a great brunch spot, and Frothy Monkey is where we landed. We did have a wait - to be expected from basically every spot to eat in 12 South - but ended up with a table inside on the porch. They have tables outside as well. Two of us had the Western Omelette, one had the Fried Chicken and eggs, and I had the 3 eggs with sausage. The grits were great, very rich, but cooked perfectly, and we had choices of breads for toast - the sourdough was fantastic - or hand made biscuits. A giant - and great - cup of coffee topped me off well. Very nice staff, and they took care of us - timely and nice conversations. Great food, and a relaxed venue is what we wanted and we got it. Worth a visit.

I didn't know what good coffee was until I stopped by at frothy monkey a few years back. I absolutely love their mocha and turtle lattes! The cheese boards are lovely! They recently brought back "The Betsy" which is their chicken salad sandwich after being off the menu for a few years. I highly recommend pairing it with their tomato basil soup! There is outdoor and indoor seating which provide a great place to study or just catch up with friends. If you don't see any available parallel parking in the front entrance, there is an additional parking lot in the back (which I prefer to park in). Overall, a great spot in the busy and beautiful 12th South area.

Big fan of Frothy and have been for a while! Definitely more of a breakfast/brunch spot than a coffee shop, so it can be a bit awkward if you are going in and just wanting to sit down to study or something with a latte. You have to see the host and it is table service only for dine in. For takeout you can walk up to the counter and order. The staff is very friendly, but as servers who work on tips they don't want you just sitting taking their tables. Only giving 3 stars because Frothy Monkey used to have a strong coffee shop impression and they have really taken drastic steps away from that vibe in recent years.

Honestly, worst coffee shop experience of my life. Host said it was over an hour wait but there were at least 4 open tables. We ended up getting coffee to go. We were told a 15 minute wait which ended up being over 20 minutes. We finally got our drinks and mine wad so hot I burned my taste buds. Not to mention, I ordered a Chai Latte and it was made with 2% instead of whole milk and wasn't informed of the switch. So, it tastes watered down. Ridiculous for a $5 drink. The staff were making themselves drinks, goofing off, and chatting while we were just standing there waiting. The drink runner got an attitude with me. Overall, not worth it. Just go to Portland Brew instead. Better selection, cheaper, nicer staff.

  • White & Gray Matters

Nice cafe environment and the food was so delicious! Ill have to come back again to try the drinks & breakfasts, especially with a Great price for a great meal. The cheese and charcuterie board was well stocked, unexpected & worth the money. All the items tasted so good. This could make a meal for one easily. The Gail salad lunch portion was just the right size to fill after some cheese, breads and meats. I ordered the Brisket sandwich to go for dinner and looks so good. Thanks to the friendly staff and hostes for their services.

Food was good but way too salty. Service started out good but our server disappeared at some point and we never saw him again. So the service ended up not being that great. I had to get up numerous times to ask for things like sugar for the coffee and the bill at the end. It wasn't that busy either. There are not enough bathrooms for that size place either. There were long queues for the bathrooms even though it wasn't busy! One of the kitchen staff spent a good 15 minutes in one of the bathrooms, which further made the line worse. I guess overall I was a little disappointed by my experience.

Food- amazing! They have plenty of gluten free and dairy free options. The reason this isn’t 5 stars is due to the fact that the service is spotty and all of our orders had something missing. We didn’t order complex items, it was forgetting sides, not bringing out items, bring a vegan in the group a bacon sandwich. Additionally, everyone had food poisoning symptoms later that day. I’d definitely try again because the food is good, but I would definitely go to a different location due to the above.

Had breakfast here last Friday. It's a funky, eclectic coffee house. They have a few locations across Nashville, but this is the original one. Ordered the Golden Funky Monkey latte; it's super yummy and just right on the creamy sweetness! The avocado toast wasn't really what I was expecting. However, it was all delicious. Very good salsa! The bread is soft and chewy as well. Hubs had the grits, which were really good. Service was fast, efficient, and helpful! Highly recommend!

Neat place in a neat part of town. The whole street was cool to walk down. Hostess and server were both very nice and attentive. The food was great and the restaurant was clean. We saw the brisket on the menu online, but not in the restaurant. We asked, and apparently it's sort of seasonal and they only sometimes have it. That's ok though. The pasta dishes were amazing. The monkey Mocha with banana syrup was yummy. Tiramisu and cherry crumble were also delicious. Recommended to anyone passing through.

Great spot! Honestly it’s a time investment on a Saturday morning (we arrived at 9:50am and waiting 45 minutes for a table, then once we sat down we waited another 30 minutes for coffee, 45 for food) — but I don’t want to rate them down for being busy. They move as fast as they can, and the staff are very friendly and attentive. The food is excellent and the fun blends of coffee were delicious. Just make sure you’re not in a rush when you eat here & you’ll enjoy it!

Their menu is not clear about which items are gluten-free as they are or only gluten-free with a substitution of gluten-free bread. This caused confusion between me and my server that led to me having an allergic reaction that took me several hours to recover from. I went to this place because they got very good reviews from the gluten-free community but sadly, that was not my experience. Its a cute place and their food was good, but I honestly didn't get to enjoy it as much as I otherwise would have.

I searched high and low for good matcha in Nashville and Frothy Monkey nailed it! They were busy and crowded but working hard and it was worth the wait. We just ordered drinks for take out and walked around the area. But would definitely be fun to sit in to eat/drink too. It’s a loud place, not a quiet coffee shop for studying. Not bad, just a different vibe. And right out back is a great mural!! Definitely recommend stopping by!

Really cute place that was full of patrons. We've been to many coffee shops but this one was just ok for us. I ordered a turtle latte and it lacked the mocha caramel flavors that other coffee shops provide. My husband liked his banana latte. We also ordered a breakfast sandwich with everything bagel option. The bagel was kinda hard. There is plenty of indoor seating.....two floors. There are a few tables outside. Prices reasonable.

The service is excellent and the place looks really good. However I expected a little more of the coffee. We ordered two signature coffees and a hot chocolate needless to say that they were not hot at all, the taste on the drinks was ok but nothing special. Finally we ordered a chocolate cake for my son and he loved it. It’s like a 50/50 feeling.

Very nice establishment in 12South about 15 min out of downtown Nashville. I went there for breakfast and while there was a line forming out the door, they had more than enough seating inside, on the porch and outside. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding! If you are looking for a nice place to get away from Broadway and the crowds check this joint out. They also had a local brewery Czaanz on tap which has some of the best micro brew I have had in a long time =)

BANANA FLAVORED COFFEE!!! Nashville is known for its amazing food and good music, but I’d like to also say that coffee shops like this can’t be found anywhere else. The Frothy Monkey has banana flavored coffee and other fun varieties to try which makes this location so unique. The food is also delicious, fresh, and colorful! Workers are kind and the atmosphere is great as well. Hoping to be back soon!

Bagel sandwich. The bagel was like biting a USPS shipping box. I didn’t know a twice broiled bagel was a thing. No butter no salt or pepper no flavor or moisture but it did have twice broiled bacon which was stiff enough to break a tooth. The biscuit sandwich is going to be renamed hockey puck hope. Never give up hope it may be all you have. Luckily they couldn’t broil the coffee.

Fantastic little cafe in Nashville! We got the Britt and California and they were both delicious. It gets REALLY busy but worth the wait. Their bloody Mary’s are amazing and come with olives, okra and celery. Service is excellent, too - even though you order at the front and then go sit down someone was walking around making sure everyone had everything they needed. Super friendly staff and very accommodating. Will return again when we are back in town.

Not a fan. First off, No prices on the menu which is very strange. Second off, our server Ben didn’t seem to know the prices of anything, and was very rude when we asked. Past that, he belittled a member in our group and kept acting like he was above us. I definitely recommend working on improving social skills to improve customer experience. And if someone asks prices, orders just coffee, or splits bills… not to give attitude or talk down on them.

A trip back home to Nashville is incomplete without a Frothy Monkey visit! This place is so versatile. I have so many memories studying for exams here, catching up with friends over coffee, birthday dinners, etc. The coffee is excellent, probably the best in the city. And most people know that. But what most people don’t know is that their dinner menu is also incredible!!! I recommend the soups, chicken+gnocchi, and salads.

  • Caroline Vandiver

The first visit we got the farmhouse breakfast which was excellent! They have great quality bacon! We liked it so much that we went back the next morning. This time I got huevos rolando. Oh. My. Gosh. If you like Mexican food, you will LOVE THIS! It was Mexican stewed tomatoes and onions with black beans, potato wedges, fried eggs, avocado, and sour cream. It was definitely out of my comfort zone to try, but SO WORTH IT!

I ordered the Crab Cake sandwich and red potatoes. The whole plate was not good at all so I returned it and ordered something new. Seriously one of the best meals I've had in a while.

Came here for dinner and the food was decent. Not holding anything against the staff, but they were no shy in letting us know they were closing and it was time to leave. Chorizo biscuits and gravy and avocado toast FTW! This location of frothy monkey seems to always have the best service and food and the indoor and outdoor ambiance is awesome. A lot of variety on their menu for a coffee spot. The Bakery items are delicious and their monkey mocha coffee is delicious. Lovely and chill atmosphere except for the few that feel its ok to take a 4 person table to make it their own

Monkey Mocha was great, per usual. Great atmosphere. The manager was so amazing. I didn’t get his name but he really had everything in line. Kiddos to him!

Delicious coffee and friendly servers. 4 stars because there were not many vegetarian options (also not identified well on the menu if it is vegetarian or vegan) but the quinoa black bean burger with side salad was nice!

LOVED! cute vibe inside and outside. Good service. I got the andouille & hash and it was sooo good! The Grits were bomb too!! Great find on a cute market/food street

“S’more than a feeling” was phenomenal and perfectly sweet. “Milk’s favorite coffee” was ~fine~ but did not satisfy my man’s sweet tooth, and had only the smallest hint of mocha. Both were artfully crafted. …

Great food and service, the staff was very friendly, is better to call ahead to make reservations sometimes they get so busy that you can have up to 1hr wait. They do have Gf (gluten free) options …

What a fun spot with Great Coffee! Loved the atmosphere. Very laid back and everything was very well kept and clean. The coffee creations are at a level that far exceeds your run of the mill macchiato ♥️

  • Ben Littlechilds

Food was fine. Surprised they only really offered either oe or sunny side eggs. Service was good. Lots of dogs at this location which i appreciated.

A bit of a wait for food but the biscuit and gravy and french toast were yummy. The apple orchata drink was too sweet, but good. There are some seats, but most of the people line up for drinks to go.

Delicious drinks and food. We had a group of four and everyone loved their breakfast. They had multiple gluten free options to choose from. We stopped there twice in our three day stay in Nashville.

Delicious coffee! I’m visiting from out of state and was nervous to go anywhere but the server was fantastic! I think her name was Kaya, but she was so friendly. Coffee was 10/10 too! More

Delicious! We tried the Havana and Golden Monkey (iced) and they were prefect for walking around 12 south on a cool summer morning!

Soooooooooo good. Loved the avocado toast. The cherry-o wasn’t our favorite but we had such a nice time. Great service, beautiful day. Highly recommend.

This place has beautiful aesthetics outside but the coffee is the heartbeat to a hip coffee shop. Three stars for the outside. Latte was not impressive.

Good coffee, check out their espresso class on Fridays. Only thing is when it’s busy it’s not a good place to be. Too crowded and no crowd control. More

Advertise gluten-free bread but they ran out. Said they could substitute potatoes and then the kitchen refused. Then they gave me the wrong order...

  • Aysha Williams

I love the espresso beverages. So far, from my experience, they have the best mocha in town. Finding a spot to park can be challenging,.
