I've been wanting to come here for some time finally had the opportunity to and to say disappointed is an understatement. Arrived shortly after 1:00 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon There was a decent crowd wouldn't call it overly crowdy but definitely had people sitting at the bar and at four tables. The server came to take our order never introduced herself nor at any point in time did she ask us if we wanted drinks. I politely said can you please give us a minute we've never been here before and we're still looking over the menu. She looked at me cross-eyed and walked away. This was extremely surprising because I would have at least expected her to offer suggestions on what some of the local favorites are ask if we were interested in appetizer ask can I get you something to drink got absolutely nothing. After about 10 minutes of sitting around had to wave the server down and ask her if we can put in an order for appetizers as she took our order and turned to walk away I said please can we also order some drinks. We ordered the cheese curds and the guacamole, queso and pico de gallo chips and dip. The cheese curds were outstanding, what they called guacamole was simply smashed avocados I did not see any onion cilantro peppers or tomatoes in what they call guacamole. The pico de gallo was dry as if they drained all the juice. After another 10 minutes of sitting and waiting the server finally returned and asked to take our order. It took close to 25 minutes before we got our food and to say the least the food was lukewarm. By the time we finished our lunch and ask for the bill The server came back and presented a total when we went to pay the bill we noticed the total was higher than what the server stated after doing a double take we noticed that the server took it upon herself to add a 25% tip to the bill. To say the least I was in shock! Aside from the food it is a very cool place brings back a lot of memories from the '80s and I hope this was just a single bad experience and not something consistent with the service. Definitely need to look into the wait staff I understand that people have a bad day but I have to tell you this was just a terrible experience at no point during the entire time we were there did this person smile try to engage nothing. At this point I would have to give it at least a few months before I try and go back again if I do.

Too long didn't read version: your generic gen x modern bar. Ghost busters flag, tables with lyrics on them, pricey drinks, and meh food. Good place to get together with a few buddies you haven't seen in a while. You'll spend $14 on food, another $20+ more on 2 damn good drinks. My advice? Eat beforehand, drink here. Definitely nothing bad about this bar. Just lots of okay things. Drinks were great! Espresso martini is highly suggested, as are the orange cream shots. Kiss from a rose is not bad, just average sweet drink. If i were just rating the drinks alone? 4.5 stars. Now the food? Chicken tenders and fries definitely taste like pre packeged tyson food chicken. Pricey for what it is. I do understand it's tourist trap downtown tampa, though. Service isn't bad by any means, just lacking. Couldn't tell you what the issue was, though. Besides, bar staff hardly no one really showed themselves except to bring out some drinks and food. They were nice when we did talk to them. Not bad. Drinks definitely save it from a worse review. Plus, the place was fairly nicely decorated. They are not the best, but they certainly are trying decorum wise. Food itself? 1.5 stars. Food service, 2 stars. Virtually, if not, no security. Staff service and hospitality, 3 stars. Drinks, 4.5 stars. Pictured: espresso martini

App parking available, including passport. Even though you may be on another street, the whole area of 9928 parking zone is South Kenedy. I know, a little confusing. There is also pay by coin and card.
Kid-friendliness
Technically, you can bring kids? Definitely isn't made for children, but it does seem there's not an age limit. 14-16 is the youngest you should bring to a place like this, honestly.

What a vibe this bar brings! Throughly enjoyed the decor, games, and the DJ on a Friday night playing all the music to bring me back to my teenage years! The drinks are super fun with creative names. This place 1000% nails the GenX atmosphere on every level. I will say that as much as I saw the bartenders and clean up guys hustling, the service to get drinks at a table right next to the bar was really, really slow. I probably would have had another drink if I didn't have to wait almost 20 minutes for the first one and then sit with an empty glass for another 15 minutes waiting for 1 server to take care of 6 tables in front of the projector screen. It wasn't bad or unfriendly service thus the 5 star rating, but there is room for improvement if they want me to spend more money on drinks in the future. Bring cash for the games and the bar can break bills if needed. It was very confusing on how much everything was because none of the games are labeled with how much it is to play. The machines take dollar bills and it seemed most of them were $1 for each play. The photo booth was also confusing as it says $5 to take photos but then it made me add an additional $4 to print or to add additional larger prints which I just wanted the 1 strip of photos. Somehow I eneded up with 3 strips of photos for $9. After a few drinks, I'm sure someone would mess up that process as well. Overall, this place is a pretty awesome night out and I recommend it for a group outing or even a super fun first date night!

I am writing this as I have just gotten home from this place. I’m not sure if the woman with the bad lip injections and curly hair all over her head is a manager or what but she may be racist or just plain rude (I say this because I was the only person of color in the establishment) I placed an online order through their website and paid and when I went to pick up the order the blonde girl did not even want to speak to me and acted like I was speaking a foreign language and I clearly stated that I was there to pick up an online order. Then the lady with the bad lip injections and crazy looking curly hair came over and said “your number is wrong” and I did not understand what she meant by that, then she goes on to say “I tried to call but your number is wrong” she put the receipt on the counter and walked away. Then she went over to other customers who were sitting at the bar and said the kitchen is closed anyway. Then they both ignored me as I clearly had additional questions. I would suggest that they adjust the times on their website so that people cannot place an order after the kitchen is closed. Also just basic human decency and respect for customers would be appreciated. Needless to say I will not be returning.

If you're an 80s/90s kid, prepare to step into epic amounts of nostalgia. We are the Nostalgia Generation and Gen X Tavern knows it. Pictures of your favorite celebrities, TV shows, toys, and games are all over the walls. Memorabilia wall to wall. The experience in itself is awesome but the drinks and food are to die for, too. The bar is always busy for a reason. I had 3 drinks, all tequila based and all delicious. The burgers are my favorite thing on the menu but the sides and appetizers are to die for. I can't recommend the fried ravioli enough. Definitely order a side of sauce for your fries or tots - I recommend the Alabama white. The one Con I will give it is the noise levels are through the roof. There's a warehouse feel due to limited insulation and while it's fine if there aren't many people, I've never seen it even close to empty. Everyone talking at once reverberated off of the walls. You have to shout to be heard which means, of course, it's even louder. Still worth it, I would just prepare for that.

One of the best bars in downtown Tampa for a fun atmosphere! Tons of 80’s and early 90’s memorabilia. So much fun to look at everything and reminisce. The wait staff and bartenders were truly exceptional. Average bar food and good strong alcoholic beverages. The place is large with multiple seating areas: the bar, picnic tables, regular tables, and several conversational areas with comfy couches. We went on a busy Saturday night and staff kept up with impeccable, friendly service. Ordering & paying was simple & quick. We were a party of 7 people & all of us said we’d gladly return. Fun games to play and they had a DJ that night too. If you’re a Gen X’er - this place is a must see!!

UPDATE: We went last Saturday, and it's so awesome. I love this place. It was busy as expected at 10 pm. We found seating and enjoyed ourselves for a few hours. Our bartender was amazing! The food was yummy! No complaints. This is my favorite bar in that area. I thought this was an awesome idea and theme. When we got there at 9 pm on a Saturday, it was super packed. It's a really good vibe with couches and games. We didn't order much food, just a few appetizers. The fried pickles were amazing, and their guacamole is really good. The menu was very limited. I don't know if that was just due to the time. All the drinks were really good. I'd go again, maybe a little earlier, to get a better seat. The only negative was it took a out 15 minutes to find our waitress, then she went to get a pen and disappeared for quite some time at least another 20 mins. But once she got us going, it was good service.

As a first time visitor this place was really cool. I loved the retro atmosphere and the variety of options they offered from food to drinks. The place brought a nostalgic vibe with all the items hanging at the wall to the many classic arcade games throughout the place. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back here again. I also want to give a shout out to my bartender server Jeimy. She had provided excellent service and at the time I was in there she was running a solo shift with a pretty decent rush of people. Her service was top notch making sure all her patrons were catered too and greeting new customers as soon as they walked in.

I hope my lower rating doesn’t take away from the service they are always great here. It’s a fun place to bring friends or family stop grab a burger or drink. However it seems like the price of food has really gone up as of recent. You pay $15 for a burger that doesn’t come with any side. That cost another $2 for fries. Every bar I’ve gone to that charges $15 for a burger gives you a choice of fries, salad, or you can upgrade to like onion rings or something. The poppers seem to have gone up also, $14.10 for 4 medium size poppers. Everything just felt way over priced this visit. Hopefully management can revisit their prices and come down on some things soon.

I do recommend this place. I came from Orlando to check it out. The games and theme is definitely spot on. However, don't go expecting a really chill late night hangout. It is definitely more of a restaurant/cafeteria vibe. Most of the space is tables for people who choose to eat and the echo of the vast room makes it hard to hear any music. Even the lighting invites more of a clean restaurant vibe which is fine during daytime hours. Again, I'm sure this is a great brunch type of spot, but as far as nightlife goes, don't expect much out of it. Suggestion for the owner: -The current setup is decent for a daytime hang/bite to eat, but once 9/10pm hits, dim the lights, clear some tables and turn up the jams. It will definitely help people turn back around to visit a second time.

Absolutely love this place. Great food, good beer selection, and 80s/90s atmosphere and music. Can’t recommend enough! Bartender Brian was very personal and gave great service! And come on, how many places have a Super Nintendo set up?? June 2021 Update: they got rid of my favorite beer (TropiCannon Heavy Seas IPA)! Jan 2022 Update: the service has been really slow the last few times I’ve come (they always seem understaffed) and they replaced the SNES with a photo booth and the array of CRTTVs now sits against a different wall, powered off. Seriously? They thought a photo booth was more interesting than Super Nintendo??! In a world in which every human being over the age of 7 has a smartphone? Feel like this place is slowly losing everything I loved about it.

I've been coming here for a little over a year with my friends for all sorts of events like Monday night trivia, New Year's Eve, divorce parties, and birthday parties. We recently showed up, without notice, with a party of thirty people. Our server JM was absolutely crushing it and helped us all have an amazing night. Gen X has a great atmosphere, good food, and is my favorite place to go for a night out.

Server, Shawna, looked like she hated her life, was very short and curt, auto tabbed our group as 1 check without asking us first and charged us an auto gratuity of 20% even when we paid separately. There was no warning about auto gratuity plus, we did ask for ranch for our meal, she noted it, DID NOT TELL US THERE WAS A CHARGE, then the food showed up with no ranch and we had to ask AGAIN. Overall, terrible experience. Food was good. Drinks were good but probably will not go back. Just be wary and double check your tabs ahead of time.

We got our food to-go, the burgers were delicious...especially the Truffle Shuffle. My only "negative" is we were super excited about the Dunkaroos...and they taste NOTHING like Dunkaroos. The cookies were animal crackers, much denser and sweeter than the Dunkaroos shortbread version. The actual dip was more of a canoli dip or possible cream cheese based? Dunkaroos have the gross-delicious artificial jar frosting dip. Long story short, I would not recommend spending $9 on the Dunkaroos.

The attention to detail of this place is amazing! It had a great atmosphere and the bartender was awesome! We tried multiple drinks and loved them (strawberry adult Capri sun was our favorite)! The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was the food. It wasn’t bad but just a little underwhelming when we visited. The homemade spaghetti-o’s and fried pickle chips were great but the sandwiches we got were just ok. We will definitely visit again and may try new food items next time! Certainly worth a visit if you’re in the area

Fun place to visit. Brings back memories of 80's and 90's. A few lunch specials that are reasonable. Would like to see some dishes that are not so full of rich sauces, bacon, Etc. Need not be health food, but some healthier selections were be great. Even chicken sandwiches are over the top. Servers are wonderful but service can be slow sometimes. If you have time, it's worth the wait.

This was such a fun find! The atmosphere is top notch, loved looking at all of the awesome decor all over the bar. We had the Dunkaroos and it was a very large portion and a bit much. The only thing is I wish it would have just been the confetti Betty Crocker frosting. We also happened to be there during trivia which was really fun. If we are back in town, we’d definitely pay them a visit again.

This place seems really cool but they need to provide training to the A.M. G Server in identifying the difference between a pink and medium well burger. The server was adamant that my meat was medium well. As soon as I realized, I wouldn’t win the argument, I just said “it’s okay.” My stomach is very sensitive so it would be great if the waitress could understand what a medium well burger is as I paid for a meal I did not order. I’m not faulting the cook as I know it looked medium well from the outside.

  • Simonne Piriz

Great vibes, great drinks, and friendly staff... oh and the video games actually take you back to the 90s with their old timers television sets and living room atmosphere. They have older tv shows playing on each device and a Super Nintendo set right at the entrance. When you walk around you find all types of hidden gems that are sure to turn back time. Right around the corner they had a couch with FRIENDS playing... which I love love love. Great place, if you haven’t yet - check it out!

Very fun place. We played a lot of games and had a great time. Food also was surprisingly good, and service was great!! It's located downtown so parking is limited. There is a parking garage close by though . If in the area check it out and play a game of air hockey .

The atmosphere was okay every TV had some type of sports game on I was expecting to see 1980s movies playing or something similar. Our waitress forgot about us for long periods of time. The drinks were average. The food was the worst though the french fries were old and stale. The barbecue chicken quesadilla tasted like something you would get in a bowling alley or at a gas station.

*Food was "ok". Salad was tiny and weak, cheese steak was mehh. Pretty much just ate the meat & peppers inside (wasn't feeling the cheese and the bread. I think the bread was too wet and the cheese was too hard). Onion rings were awesome, though! Atmosphere was cool... fun throwback. *The adult Capri Sun was really good.

Nice atmosphere but overpriced. I tried an adult capri sun but honestly I didn't taste any alcohol. I ordered the nacho waffles fries. Let's just say. They were very disappointing. For my meal. I order the turkey club. My god the bread they used. Was so hard it cut the inside of my mouth. This happened hours ago and my mouth is so sore. They did switch it to a bacon burger and that was pretty good. Needless to say I probably won't be returning.

  • Jeff Reese

The staff was super friendly and the owners really paid attention to detail throughout. Great memorabilia scattered around, make sure to check it all out. The names of the drinks and the food items are neat, however I would have preferred actual fried ravioli rather than ravioli shaped mozzarella bites. Also got a chance to speak with the owners and they were quite friendly. Tang-a-rita was solid and strong.

I'd you're looking for an 80s/90s theme bar, GenX Tavern is your place! My favorite thing about the bar was the music, it took me back to my junior high school days immediately. The bar projects a neon, saved by the bell, retro theme and it works. The food was good, the drinks were good, and had fun 90s related names. The happy hour was very reasonable too. Would recommend!

Insane amount of potential - but I guess they don’t have certain channels for sports games. Came in because Hattricks was mobbed just looking to watch football and was told they don’t have access. Not sure what the issue is since it’s not a PPV or anything, but otherwise the space and bar is really great. Just wish they had the games.

Ask for Sir Charles ! Great service he provided us which over shadowed the rest of a not so spectacular experience. For those enthusiasts that have placed the coveted pinball wizard status spare yourself a deep dive of disappointment. For those that care and are listening, add more games with easy access. I don’t carry or travel with dirty bills or coins.

Great little place with a cool and chill 80's/90's vibe. $5 well drinks, plenty of games to play, seating was good, and we had a great time. We didn't actually try the food so I can't comment on that this time. Bathrooms are clean.

Great dive bar in downtown Tampa. Also has the high end staples. Service is also friendly and music is on point with the Gen X name.

Good food, great decorations, good service. Very surreal theme of a restaurant for sure!! We would love to go back again. Parking downtown a little tricky but the trip was enjoyable.

It was awesome. Megan was my bartender. She was very personable. Happy hour is very affordable. Definitely a little time warp.
