I attended Grace Covenant in Austin as a teenager. The intense level of indoctrination I endured would not become apparent to me until after college. The youth group was very ideological lacking in substance. Those who expressed opinions that were counter to the overall doctrine of the youth leadership were often driven out. The youth group encouraged children to attend camps, and they would lie to parents about what went on. During one camp, they wanted us to experience the plight of Job, so they locked all our belongings in a truck and pretended the keys were lost. The night was cold and wet, and I remember getting about an hour of sleep (at most), because I had no blankets or spare clothes, no snacks or food, and no phone. They told us later that God had brought the rain and cold to enforce the test of our love of him in times of tribulation. At another camp, they gave out fake currency called "ducats", and they monitored how we spent them. Near the end of the camp, they selected a small group of students, who "best spent" their "ducats", to attend a party with good food, movies, and activities. The rest of us were escorted to a large room, where we were forced to stay awake and watch old terrible apocalypse movies on repeat. There were staffers at all the exits to prevent us from leaving or trying to leave. I remember a friend crawled into an oven (not on) and curled up in an attempt to sleep without getting caught. They offered us unsalted crackers for food, declined us dinner, and kept us awake into the early hours of the morning before releasing us. The practices at Grace Covenant are cultish indoctrination at best and child abuse at worst. When I attended, Matt Cassidy was just becoming the pastor, but he had been the youth pastor for years. Chris Glass succeeded him and worked with Jeremiah Ebling to run the camps that I attended. All of these people should be held accountable for these practices, as they had immeasurably negative effects on my development and identity as a teenager, and my college years were punctuated with relentless cognitive dissonance and existential angst, trying to reconcile reality, science, and reason with blind faith, fairytale, and extremist ideology. DO NOT GO TO THIS CHURCH.

I have attended this church since I was 5, and I will be 37 in April. Matt Cassidy is such a man of God, is brilliant, insightful, witty, not greedy, a hard worker, is like Christ in every aspect of life, and if you ever have the opportunity to share a struggle with him, the compassion and true empathy in his soft gray eyes will bring you to tears and truly make you feel seen. I saw a review that really troubled me, lambasting the camps he poured his heart and soul into. These were not as described. Yes, the activites mentioned were what occurred, but to call them indoctrinating is confounding to me. I, myself, was in the "left behind" group for the apocalypse object lesson, and even though it was meant to be less fun than the other group had, it so brought home the lesson for me and others in attendance. I hold some of my fondest memories from these camps. This church helped me when I was homeless for a short while, and got me to the point I could get my first unemployment check, and I will always be grateful for that. Have I had issues with certain church-goers in my 31 years? Absolutely. I had beyond the pail trauma in my youth that I feel was ignored by not keeping my family accountable at that time. However, you can't judge a church simply by some of its members in pockets of time. My parents and I have since worked through a lot of our "stuff", and I feel at home here. Not EVERYONE in the church knew what was going on, so I can't chastise a whole body. The only thing I would caution, for EVERY church one attends: some people are not as they seem, so don't base your entire opinion of someone on their current reputation. Also, don't base your views of CHRIST on people who claim to be followers but are charlatans. God is at this church, but there is spiritual warfare as well.

Robin Weiberis very deceiving, and has no problem lying to someone in need . Told me he would help me one minute and then swore the next minute he did not tell me so. Got me to get a second party to help with cost in this matter in which I got someone based on the fact that he and grace church would help , and then he backs out. And I’m still without a car. He should be working for a law firm instead of a church. His practice would be a better fit there

Beautiful Church great community! Wonderful children's program. If you are looking for a church you won't find a better one. My husband and I have been attending this church now for about 2 years. Not only have we been able to grow our relationship with Jesus Christ, we have also found a great church family. Please come and check it out for yourself!

I love how many ministries there are and the woman who runs the women's ministry, Melissa, has done an excellent job meeting us at every level of your life journey. I'm excited to begin the After the Boxes are unpacked Bible Study. It includes a weekly dinner and the book and is designed specifically for women who have just moved to Austin.

Just came into town and looking for a good Bible believing church and this church is a GEM. The word is preached and the word is lived by their outreach. I put in a prayer request and had someone reach out to me. What a great experience. P.S. my prayer was answered about a new job. God is so faithful to us who seek HIM.

We've attended Grace for almost 24 yrs. They preach the Word, and have a plethora of ministries. ReEngage, Griefshare, Divorce Care, Celebrate Recovery, women and men's ministries, children programs and wonderful youth programs. Come visit on zoom or in person.

Come to learn. The pastors and teachers here have a passion for helping us understand what the bible is saying. While we are not a great fit for everyone the people here do think there is a good fit for you and if it is not us let us help you find it.

Just wanted to express my appreciation for your sweet gesture towards all of our nurses at Ascension Seton. We are grateful for our community and are proud to serve and care for all of you. God bless you and many thanks to each and every parishioner.

  • Spencer Hayes

Awesome community. This is your church if you truly want to wrestle with the long term and weighty questions about life, God, and the Bible. People are authentic and friendly, and the music is incredible (and not flashy or distracting).

Atmosphere was nice. Just not the type of word/preaching I like. Good for some not others. The pastor was very dry not very enthusiastic felt like he could have brought the message out better with more emphasis sorry in my opinion dry.

  • Shannon Hodges

All the people I meet are very nice. The children ministry is well equipped and they have many events and seminars going on frequently. I recommend giving this church a try, especially if you have young children that like to play.

Went good the foster and adoption conference. It was set up nicely and was clean. The conference was well run and organized. Pretty church on the inside and comfortable seating. It is a big campus with lots of options.

  • Daniel James

Great church; I come here every week for the AWANA program, which is the best in the state (possibly the country!). The facilities are fantastic, especially in the new sanctuary building.

A great fellowship of Christ-followers! Love how we give back so much in local volunteerism from the membership and through focused giving as a church family.

  • Barbara Lafreniere

I love this church. It feels like home. I love learning about stories in the Bible. Everyone is so nice. The pastor and youth pastor are wonderful.

  • Andrew Skeen

Preaching: 5/5. Aesthetics: 4/5. Music: 4/5 (they're very modern). If you're single and over, say, thirty, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Non-denominational Bible Preaching Church. This church feels like home. The people are so loving and servants at heart.

Not sure why this church shows up on a list of "gay friendly churches" from a Google search, but this is not the case.
